We, your hosts, are a married couple; Margarita is a business owner, Bob is a physician. Our children are grown and have moved out and our place is underutilized as we spend a lot of time in Santa Cruz. We'd like to offer our Berkeley home to you as a short term rental.. The house is spacious and well equipped and there is ample outdoor space for spending time with friends or family with social distancing.

We have a 7 night minimum but may at times accept shorter stays The home has two bedrooms and one bath as well as a living room, a dining room, a pantry, and a breakfast nook. There is plenty of privacy. When we are in Berkeley we stay in back in a cottage. We enter via a driveway and would not be close to you when we stay in Berkeley.

Please note that the City of Berkeley charges a tax for short term rentals.. The rate is 12% plus a 2% administrative fee so the total is 14%. If you rent our home for fewer than 14 nights you will need to pay this directly to us and we will forward it to the city. There is no tax for longer stays. We have a zoning certificate - # ZCSTR2017-0022.

The normal rent is $220.00 / night. During certain times of the year (Thanksgiving, Xmas, and most dates in May (University of Berkeley graduation) the rate is $250.00 / night This rate for two guests. There is a charge of $20.00 / night for any additional guests. The maximum number of guests is four.

Our house is meticulously maintained, clean, airy, and fully equipped. It is located on a tree-lined street in what is generally considered to be one of the most desirable areas of Berkeley, close to wonderful restaurants, shops, and walking streets.

Our place is perfect for visiting scholars, scientists, business or creative people and for tourists who prefer the peace and quiet of this lovely East Bay city. Many of our guests have been people with children and grandchildren or other relatives or friends in the area. There is easy and fast access to downtown San Francisco via public transportation; bus and BART stations are in walking distance from our house.

Parking is on the street but is not a problem - often you can park directly in front of the house. No sticker is needed. Occasionally parking might be a half block or at most 1 block away

We are not entrepreneurs. We are an elderly couple who are just trying to make ends meet by renting out the front apartment of our two apartment duplex.
When you arrive at the apartment, you will find everything you could possible want, so you can relax after your trip: Cup of lovely tea or frothy cappuccino? Glass of wine? Sparkling water? Snacks? Check-in is with numbered code on the door dead bolt. But Mary or I (Jon) will meet and greet you to show you around the apartment so that you can find out everything you need to know to make your stay as trouble free as possible. We live in the back apartment of the duplex so we are readily available for any of your ongoing needs. Please just call or text and we will be at your disposal.

Please note that the City of Berkeley charges a 14% tax for short term rentals. If you rent the apartment for fewer than 14 nights, the tax is built into the charge that we pay directly to the city. There is no tax for longer stays.

The space
Bedroom is spacious, sunny with a cozy-feel, it features hardwood floors, single size comfortable bed , a nice size closet, a 6 drawer wood dresser, a large comfortable desk, including a flat TV with a Roku system. This bedroom in winter time is the most cozy of all. Shared bathroom is only a few steps near.

We spend most of our time in the kitchen, specially in the mornings getting ready for work and school. We can only host guests that mostly do take-out and do light cooking. Light cooking means simple and quick.

The space
Bedroom is spacious, private, cozy with lots of light and a large window facing the street. Room features wood floors, a large walk-in closet, comfortable FS bed with new linens, a dresser, a wood desk and a TV with Roku system for guest comfort. A shared bathroom is three steps away from bedroom. Note, we are taking extra measures to protect you, and ourselves during these times. We are often cleaning and sanitizing shared areas. Bathroom is shared. There is hand sanitizing & disinfectant available in the bathroom.

Other things to note
We have two vivacious 8 & 10 yo kids. Kids have their own play-room which is in the opposite side of guest-rooms. We do our best to have guest space -kids-free as much as possible, however if you don't like kids at all, we might not be the right match for you.

During November through February we turn that heater a couple hours in the morning and another 2-3 hours in the evening. This is a large home and due to high electricity cost we are unable to keep the heat on 24 hours. We wear cozy clothing to keep warm -and avoid summer clothing to avoid being uncomfortable.

Please note Kitchen access is limited. We can only host guests with a full schedule, since we are not set up for the office. Ask us any questions.

TBA is a homey apartment is about a 15 min walk to Trader Joe's, great stores and diverse restaurants in downtown Berkeley, the Bart station, ~20 min walk to UC Berkeley, and close to bike trails, parks and more!

The neighborhood is save and clean prefect of walks around the block to smell the beautiful flowers!

The space
We live in a two bedroom apartment on the second floor of a 5 units building. The living room is specious and bright and very welcoming as is the bedroom. The kitchen is small but fully equipped. We also have a pretty small balcony that guest are more than welcome to enjoy.

Guest access
Guest have access to the whole apartment except the room where I'm would be staying. You would have designated space in the kitchen and the fridge where your can store your groceries.

During your stay
Natalia is usually away during the week, but at home in the weekend. Mike works at a sporting goods during the day Thursday-Saturday. We are both pretty outgoing and easy to get along and wold love to get to know you, but of course we will give you your space and minimal interaction if preferred.

Molly and Caramba (the cats) are indoor/outdoor cats and they come in and out as they wish. If you don't want cats in your room, please leave the door close!

Other things to note
TBA is committed to minimizing the carbon footprint as much as possible. I use natural, cruelty free cleaning products and supplies, I recycle the shower water for gardening and/or cleaning, I use recycle or compostable products as much as possible, and most of the apartment decor has been repurposed and/or hand made.

TBA is in an apartment building, as much as I try to keep the building surroundings clean and neat, there is so much I can control. Please keep that in mind when deciding to book.

Me and my two cats, Molly and Caramba live in TBA. I work for home most of the days and have close friends visiting occasionally. Molly and Caramba are both indoor and outdoor cats. They both very sweet, funny and curious, but if you are allergic to cats or irritated by cat's silliness and noises, TBA might not be the place for you.

The space
This thoughtfully organized and quaint apartment is perfect for anyone who would like to have a place to retreat to from the busy downtown area of Berkeley. I, the Grandma in the listing name, rent it out when I am on the East Coast.

The house is conveniently located 4 blocks from the North Berkeley BART station and 2 blocks from Trader Joe's. There is a park nearby to sit outside and relax . This is an old shingled house that was divided up into apartments, you may hear some muffled sounds and footsteps from neighboring apartments,and dogs barking from the nearby dog park.

You'll have everything you need for your retreat. The kitchen is fully equipped, including your choice of coffee or tea in the morning. The bathroom supplies are constantly replenished, and you have access to books , a desk overlooking the back yard, an old school receiver, and a wall mounted TV.

Please no smoking on the property.

There is no parking available on property, but there is street parking available. Free parking is allowed for two hours between 8:00am and 5:00pm (if you do not have an area sticker).

Parking starts being monitored at 8:00am and is monitored until 7:00pm, so you can keep it parked from 5:00pm until 10:00am without a problem. Please note though, that there are meter maids mark car tires to track how long they've been parked, so be sure to not be parked for more than two hours during the posted times (8:00am-5:00pm).
