Early American fashions of the late 1700's to mid-1800's required many buttons on both male and female garments. Buttons were even essential to underwear, shoes, corsets and women's basque waist. Buttons of the time period were made of ivory, bone, shell, wood, stone, glass, whale bone or animal horn. This property was originally built as a factory, producing and selling buttons to clothiers of the Guilford and CT shoreline area. This property was perfectly situated As we had a wedding in Branford and did not want to pay for three hotel rooms! It is well located, only a few minutes walk to the town center in Guilford. Our cottage features a large raised deck off the kitchen, providing beautiful views of a vibrant salt marsh and glimpses of the Long Island Sound during the fall and winter seasons. Comfortable and Well-Appointed Accommodations
The mid-century house accommodates up to four guests across three bedrooms: one with a full/queen bed and half-bath, a second queen bedroom with desk, and a third with a single bed desk, and Smart TV. Each bedroom has large closets, 100% cotton linens, duvets, and comfortable bedding. The main bathroom includes both a shower and a tub. Our sunlit living room boasts a rose granite wood-burning fireplace, an Eames lounge chair, fast 5G WiFi, Xfinity cable package, and an Amazon Echo for music. The kitchen is fully equipped with all necessary cooking essentials, but please note there is no dishwasher. Laundry facilities are conveniently located on the main floor. We have a charcoal grill and electric weber, off the side of the deck.

The 700 sq. foot walkout basement offers a lightly furnished space with a 43" Smart TV, a bar, and access to an outdoor patio.

Travel and Accessibility
Our location is only a mile from Guilford Green and a minute’s drive to the Shoreline East train station, with connections to New Haven, New York City, and Boston. We welcome one well-behaved dog, making our cottage a great choice for pet owners.

We chose it for the location, close to the beach and to Indian Cove where we had family staying. And the description was true about seeing and hearing many birds!! But this home was so comfortable, accommodating and well equipped that it deserves extra kudos! The beds were lovely with nice comforters and super clean rooms. The bathrooms had space to put stuff in the exact right place. There were plugs everywhere to plug in and charge, and the Wi-Fi worked great! In the kitchen had all the pots and pans, sharp knives, serving stuff and spices and sweeteners we could want and not just one but two types of coffee makers. The deck was a lovely place to hang out as the yard was shady most of the day. At night there was a nicely lit path to follow. We brought a dog and there were a couple of surprises for our furry friend. The yard is pretty much fenced in, as is the deck. So we didn’t have to worry about him getting out into the busy street. They had posted the vet and the hospital numbers and rules about pets in different places. In short, if you are looking for family getaway I’d highly recommend the Birders Paradise!"

Stroll along the loop trail in our backyard woods, hike in acres of beautiful woods in "Westwoods" next door, visit the town green with lovely shops, swim at Jacobs beach, have s'mores by the natural stone fire pit, or relax and get some sun by the marine-blue, stone decked pool area with flower garden! Birdwatching, breakfast, yoga, and evening cocktails are best on the spacious wrap-around deck. We also have an incredible library, fireplaces, and even a baby grand piano!

The space
The inside of Treetops is spectacular, where classic and modern styles blend. Antiques are plentiful but so too are modern paintings, sculptures, and other unique art. Our love of indigenous cultures will be obvious, and we don't shy away from colors as well! Beautiful, lush plants give the house a welcoming, homey feel.

Treetops has vaulted ceilings, and an open and spacious floor plan. There is a great kitchen with new appliances, a two-person breakfast nook, and an oversized dining area and living room overlooking the oversized deck mentioned above. Perfect for social gatherings of all kinds! Plentiful windows and slider doors flood the house in sunlight and fresh breezes.

The large living room has a top-of-the-line stereo system, CDs, large Smart TV, impressive fieldstone fireplace, and extensive library. Grab a book and recline on the new sofa while listening to some classical music! From there, walk into the master bedroom with more windows and wooded views, TV with DVD player and huge selection of movies, walk-out deck, and walk-in closet. The tiled bathroom has two sinks, a jetted tub for easing sore muscles, and a great shower/showerhead, with some basic amenities available for your stay.
Then walk into the "Blue" room, a bedroom with 1 Twin bed and 1 Full bed overlooking the driveway with bureau, bedside table, and bookshelves. Guests in this room will share the master bathroom for bathing but can also use the half bathroom near the front entrance.

A hallway then leads to the newly appointed den, with new TV, sofas, and a second beautiful fieldstone fireplace. There are games and coloring books available in the cabinet.

Across from the den and off the main entrance is the "Yellow" room. It too is newly renovated and has a Full bed, large built-in desk overlooking the pool, views galore, and a cozy reading nook that can also double as a second place to sleep.

Upstairs are two bedrooms, "The Queen", with a queen-size bed, and "The Twins" with -- you guessed it -- 2 twin beds. Both rooms have bureaus, bedside tables, one or two oversized windows, sound machines, fans, and their own full bathroom. You are really in the treetops up here! Enjoy your stay.

Nightly rate is for 6 guests. additional guests are 60 dollars a night.

We are near some railroad tracks and a few times a day, mostly morning and evening, trains go by. You will definitely hear them if you are awake, but we have never been bothered by them when sleeping.

The Pool is scheduled to be available between Memorial Day and Labor Day weather permitting.

This is a 2-bedroom, 1-bath ranch perfect for your summer getaway. The house is on a very quiet cul-de-sac, yet only minutes from Rt 1 in Guilford, the fabulous Town Green, shopping, movies and of course.... THE BEACH! The town marina has a boat launch if you have the luxury of bringing a boat on vacation with you. Lots of great shops, restaurants, summer fairs and concerts too! The house has a kitchen, living room, dining room, family room with television, 1 queen size bedroom and 1 bedroom with two twin beds.
There is a screen enclosed front porch. There is a large deck overlooking the backyard and the West River. There is also a patio table and umbrella and Weber gas grill.

Although the house is a ranch, the family room is on a lower level (3-4 steps down).

Make sure you bring your binoculars to view the large variety of summer birds out on the marsh, including bald eagles, red-tail hawks and herons.
Lots of great clamming areas including Trolley Road, Chaffinch Island, Grass Island and Shell Beach.

The views are wonderful - sunrise from one side of the island, sunset from the other, and unobstructed views across Long Island Sound. It is very peaceful and relaxing spot. Kitchen is fully equipped with everything to cook a gourmet meal (or take out). There is a expansive island with seating for 5 for everyone to critique your cooking skills.

Bedrooms and baths: You will find 4 bedrooms with comfortable mattresses and high-end bedding.

The primary bedroom has a king size romantic farmhouse wrought iron bed. The en-suite bath features a high-end Bain Ultra Hydro - Thermo Massage free standing tub which features a heated back rest and heated water circulation pump, so the water remains at a constant comfort temperature. A large custom walk in shower and a double sink vanity completes this luxurious en-suite bath.

Bedroom #2 has a king bed and a 1/2 bath en-suite.

Bedroom #3 has a queen bed.

Bedroom #4 has a queen bed.

Hall bath has a walk-in shower.

There is a pillow selection available, extra blanket and towels.

Outdoor space
There is a large deck with a dining table that seats 8, overlooking the river, with a Weber grill for all the grill masters.
A propane fire pit is near the deck or walk down to the river front park area, where there is a picnic table and a wood fire pit for your use.

With advance notice we will be happy to provide a crib or mini crib, pack and play, high chair and baby bath tub.

There are two exterior stairs to access house, once inside house there are 5 stairs to access the complete 2nd floor (main level on bi-level house).

Guest Access:
You will have complete access to the 2nd floor (main level on bi-level house).
On occassion, lower level maybe rented to a traveling nurse/physician. During these times only outdoor space will be shared (this would be riverfront and fire ring area, all other areas are exclusively yours to enjoy). All entrances are separate and private for that particular unit.

Prior to Booking
All Primary Booking guests MUST read, understand and accept house rules PRIOR to booking and message me back that "You have read, understand and accept house rules" prior to us accepting reservation.
- Primary Guest booking MUST be at least 25 years old and stay on property entire reservation. Primary Booking Guest must me fully registered, verified with VRBO. Primary Guest must provide there full legal name to book. Maximum Stay is limited to 14 days. No 3rd party bookings allowed. All guests must be registered prior to check in. Primary guest must have 2 positive reviews to book. No gathering allowed other than registered guests.

House Rules
For Guest Safety-
Please do not disable or tamperwith smoke / CO detectors.

No smoking, vaping, e-cigarettes, candles, or fires inside house or on property. A small contained fire is permissable in the fire pit only by the river. We have been on a high drought alert in Connecticut since summer of 2024. Please message us prior to use of fire pit or camp fire due to fire mashshal restrictions.

For safety please only use outdoor dinnerware and plastic wine glasses and cups. They are provided in kitchen area for our guests.

We understand accidents happen, please report any breakage or damage before check out so we may repair or replace for our next guests.

Outdoor Music is fine, please keep it low enough not to disturb neighbors. Music/noise must be minimal by 9pm weeknights and 10pm on weekends.

Please remove shoes upon entering house. No rearranging of furniture.

While we love animals, no pets are allowed due to allergies of future guests. If a guest chooses to disregard policy, we will terminate reservation immediately without refund. Primary booking guest will be charged a mandatory $500 deep cleaning fee. Any damages will be charged to primary booking guest.

Of course we welcome ADA certified animals, however we do request if possible please refrain allowing them on bedding or furniture (or cover). Ada animals must be with there owner 100% of the stay. Animals must be cleaned up after. Disturbance or barking to neighbors or others in house will result in termination of the remaining reservation without refund. Primary booking guest is respnsible fr any damages.

We especially loved the way everything was labeled in the kitchen and that it had every we needed to make a meal. The property is a 5 to 10 minute drive to a beautifully stocked grocery store. Getting to our destination from I-95 was an easy ride. Communicating with Brenda was the best. We never had any problems, and she was quick to respond if we had any questions. The guest house is in a private setting surrounded by stunning stone walls and next to a vernal pond. Birds sing; and the owls hoot. Walking distance to a beautiful shell beach, and the beautiful CT coastline.

Very close to picturesque Stony Creek and Guilford--historic towns in Connecticut. Great restaurants; Gorgeous oceanside Hammonasset State Park in neighboring Madison, CT--and nature preserve. And a quick trip into New Haven where you can visit the Yale campus along seeing award winning architecture.

This guest house is beautifully sited and designed by STUDIOATE; an architectural firm formed by two Yale Architecture graduates.

The guest house has a private bedroom with a King size tempeurpedic bed; high ceilings; Modern Bath with beautiful fixtures and shower; heated floor and heated towel rack; large glass windows and doors. A gorgeous Front Deck overlooks a pond.

The guest house is equipped with a TV, AC/Heat; full bedding; towels; a kitchenette that includes a small undercounter refrigerator; sink, french press with delicious coffee; hot water pot; microwave; cups, glasses, plates and bowls, and flatware. (There are no cooking facilities in the guest house.)

Wifi is provided.

Short distance to Westwood hiking trails (Land Conservation Trust), shell beach; historic coastline of ct; great restaurants, great shops, antique stores, and museums. Great biking along the shore.

The guest house is located at the back of a 3 acre property with its own driveway and parking. Guests have access to a beautiful setting overlooking a vernal pond and very private with stone walls that surround the guest house.
Other things to note
There are things to do year round here. Summer is full of beach activity; hiking; sightseeing architecture tours; The winter light is stunning in the morning. Also--close by Hammonnasset State Park is a special place for walks throughout the year--with a wonderful Nature Center. Snowy owls; hawks and winter birds are abundant.se is unique.
