About Our Vacation Rental Home
This house was listed previously by my Aunt, and is back under new ownership. Same family, same home (previously 186 reviews 4.72), new host. Our cozy, quiet, dog-friendly off-the-beaten-path home is 20 minutes from Pittsburgh Int'l Airport, Downtown, and Washington PA. You can enjoy nearby bike trails, golf, nightlife, museums, outlets, and the Rivers Casino. Great for a couple, solo adventurers, small families and business travelers. NOT suitable for infants. This is a heavily wooded area and a historic home. Old souls feel at home here. If you want a luxury home or hotel room please keep looking.
The House That Love Built was a farmhouse from the 1800s without running water, that my grandfather bought and rebuilt to give to my grandmother when they married. As a child I visited here frequently, and I also lived here during college. My wife and I, as my Aunt Elizabeth before us, enjoy sharing this beautiful property, and the 150 year old home filled with countless memories to keep it in the family.
This is a home with character and components from historical buildings. It isn't a hotel or a historic landmark. It's not perfect. Everything is clean but may show signs of wear. It's has been loved by many and unfortunately abused by some so you will not find overwhelming luxury. You will find peace and solace, woodland creatures (and insects when outdoors we recommend bug spray as most wooded areas in PA) and a space that allows you to focus on simple pleasures.
Accommodations And Requests

The two main bedrooms each have a double bed, and there is a smaller one with a single bed. This is a single bathroom home.
Our home is close to the city but this is a quiet, out of the way country home sitting on four acres.
There is driveway parking to accommodate two vehicles comfortably, and some space across the street by the turn around to permit a third if you need it. If you are traveling for work and have a trailer, the turnaround spot is probably your best bet, but I can get you driveway measurements upon request if the vehicle pulling the trailer has four wheel drive.
Guests will have access to the main house and grounds. The basement, attic, and the garage are off-limits. There is plenty of space for your items in each room. Only one booking occupies the house at a time.
The kitchen is available for basic cooking, please clean up after yourselves and help yourself to complementary coffee and tea during your stay!
Our pet-friendly policy applies to dogs. If you are bringing another type of pet/animal, we require more information prior to booking to determine if our home can accommodate your pet. Wipe your pet's feet before entering the house, and keep nails clipped to avoid scratching the historic parquet floors. They are losing the battle to pets not monitored by their owners.

We welcome all conversions about what you expect in a five-star stay in this price range. Please ask questions before booking, and express concerns while there is still time for us to address them to improve the quality of your visit.

We do have wildlife on the property. You will probably see turkey, raccoons and deer. When it turns cold, field mice or an occasional insect may try to enter to find warmth. They do not nest. As is good hygiene practice wherever you are, please keep food sealed and in the fridge so as not to invite them.
Please call us immediately if you see anything that isn't to your liking and we will clean it or take care of it. If you choose to leave without letting us know or wait until after your checkout time, we cannot accommodate you.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: There are bus stops and "T" stations within a few miles to access most areas of Pittsburgh.
PASSENGER VEHICLES: Our home is about 10 miles south of Pittsburgh, with easy access by highway. Travel time can range from 20-45 minutes depending on your destination, time of day, and road conditions. Guests flying in to Pittsburgh Int'l Airport and staying for a while would do well to rent a vehicle as Ubering everywhere can get expensive, especially during event-priced days.
The mandatory Allegheny County occupancy tax will be added.
Rules are enforced. No unregistered guests, no security devices tampered with - there is one camera outside. Penalties can include fees and cancelations.

* Persons under the age of 16 years old are not allowed to use the pool unless accompanied by someone 23 years or older.

* No swimming alone.

* No pets are allowed inside the pool.

* Dog(s) must have flea medicine and/or flea collar on.

* Do not leave children unattended or unsupervised around the pool area or playground. Drowning or serious injury can be a result of a lack of proper supervision.

* Alcohol and drugs should never be used by swimmers.

* Do not touch the pool heater (Temperature is preset to 86 degrees).

* No running or horseplay.

* No rollerblades, skates or ride on toys inside the pool area.

* Glass and sharp objects are not permitted in the pool or pool areas.

* Beverages must be in a can, paper or plastic containers. NO GLASS in the pool area.

* Any child/person in diapers must be in swim diapers when in the pool.

* No diving into the shallow end. This can result in serious injury or even death.

* Wet concrete in the pool area and under the deck can be very slippery. Please walk slowly around these areas. No running.

We have stayed in some wonderful places but this one is going to be hard to beat. The owners were great, and the house was well stocked and better than the listing promised. There were so many activities available that we didn't get to take advantage of during our 7 day stay. The magnificent pool and jacuzzi were a big hit. The house was stocked with lots of toys and equipment for the pool, including a water slide and basket ball equipment. The owners also provided numerous pool towels. We had great weather so we were able to spend most of our time on the unbelievable patio equipped with large screen tv and sound system. It was like a second family room. The entire family enjoyed a karaoke night on the patio. There were several outdoor tables with umbrellas so dining outside was easy. And, I should mention the incredible outside kitchen with every possible type of outdoor cooking device. The owners made our final day and departure easy. We just had to pack up and go home. Oh, and we also brought our two dogs, Izzy and Rosie. They had a great time too. The dogs felt right at home when they found a bin of dog toys, The owners even provided Izzy and Rosie with bags of personalized dog treats. We had a great time and wonderful accommodations!"

If you want to visit the city of Pittsburgh its a quick 20 minute drive. Stroll on the Montour trail ( sits directly behind the home). Absolutely everything is brand NEW. Enjoy the finest linens and bedding. Soak up the 2 acres of flowers, grass, stream, birds and sit under a shade tree or enjoy the sun. The owner is a very close.

- "We arrived and had not received and communication regarding check-in. When I put the address in to the Uber, so we can be dropped off, we were sent to the wrong location. I thought we were scammed. I was able to communicate with the property manager and he corrected everything and gave me the correct address. He said that he has given the correct address several times, but there has been no change. Our property manager, Larry was excellent in providing the correct address and was hospitable and insured. We had everything we needed including bringing us coffee and water. He was more than hospitable host and I thank him for making this trip memorable and fun."
