- "This was the perfect spot for a restful getaway. The property is peaceful and the house is stunning. Guest apartment is well-appointed, even providing little extras like coffee, chocolates at the bedside, and everything a person could possibly need for a first-class stay. Host Nancy is delightful—friendly, prompt in communication, and just a lovely person. Her assistant, border collie Wheezie, was sweet and friendly too. Our Labrador was along on the trip and he gives Wheezie 5 stars. We enjoyed hanging out on the covered patio, swimming in the lake, and checking out Lynchburg. On days that we preferred to stay put, we watched a doe and her fawns grazing, swallowtails frequenting the butterfly bush, and even a hummingbird who came up to the patio to see what we were having for dinner! The evenings were a chorus of woodland and lake creatures serenading. We felt rested and renewed when we reluctantly headed home, and would highly recommend this beautiful place. We plan to return!"

For your safety, our property has security cameras located on the patio area to monitor the exterior of our home. Footage is private and is used to monitor occupancy and may be used for liability reasons. The front of our home also has two cameras for the driveway and front door. This is to keep everyone as safe as possible.

Be aware that we are a smoke/vape-free, and alcohol-free campus. Also, we have two cats who live upstairs exclusively. They never go downstairs, but take this into consideration if you are overly sensitive to allergens. You may, on occasion, hear normal household sounds, as well do live upstairs.

Our cozy cabin features a private master bedroom. The two twin beds have a low ceiling in the loft and are accessible via ladder only. This arrangement may not be comfortable or safe depending on age and dimensions of guests so use at your own discretion. The couch is also a very suitable sleeping option.

Kitchen has apartment size (4 burner) stove, toaster oven, microwave and full-size fridge. Keurig with coffee. Pots, pans, plates & cups. Bathroom is stocked with towels, wash clothes, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, first aid kit and hair dryer.

Cellular service is very limited in this area. US Cellular has very weak signal and no other carriers are available. Make sure to note the Wi-Fi SSID and password ahead of your trip. Wi-Fi calling works very well but may need to be enabled in the settings of your device.

Outside, you will find a large, lit covered patio with stone fireplace overlooking Overstreet Creek with the base of Headforemost Mountain beyond.

Overstreet Creek is a native trout stream in a fairly remote and heavily wooded area. The creek attracts an abundance of critters, pests, and dangerous wildlife so please be careful - this is their home too.

Our property has rocky, uneven terrain and our landscaping is a work in progress.

- "Just perfect" - "Our stay at the Black Bear Lodge was fantastic. Remote, quiet, right in the middle of nature; we saw so many local animals. The WiFi in the cabin helped keep us connected to the outside world as needed (no cell service). We explored various attractions in the area, Natural Bridge state park, the caverns, the safari park, and went into Bedford for some antiquing and the farmers market. But honestly, the highlight of our trip was Black Bear Lodge itself. It’s nestled in the woods off a dirt road next to a beautiful little river. We played in the water, made s’mores in the outdoor fireplace, played card games with our kids. It was exactly what we needed and I could feel my stress melt away. Brandy was a super receptive host, easy to communicate with, and the cabin was clean and well stocked with all the necessities. You will hear the sounds of trains going by, construction forklifts beeping, etc. The factory works through the night. Some nights are more noisy than others, and unfortunately this is out of our control. Sunday nights tend to be the quietest as often the factory is off work!

Our family lives nearby and is not usually bothered by it, but we realize it's not for everyone, particularly if you're a light sleeper. The caboose has sound-proofing and double layers of insulation around the bedroom area, and we provide a white noise machine and portable fan for your added comfort.

There are exterior security cameras on the property for guest and host safety.

Target, Kohl's, Old Navy, and more! (8 mins), Blackwater Creek Bike Trail (16 minutes) and many other attractions such as local wedding venues.

This private suite offers a comfortable queen sized bed, a pack n play (available upon request), 3/4 bathroom with a shower and hairdryer. Other amenities include a mini fridge/ freezer, a Keurig machine for making coffee, a kettle for boiling water for tea, and a microwave. For entertainment you are welcome to use the drop down movie screen (casting, roku etc), or play some of our games.

There is a U-shaped driveway in the front of the house free for you to park in. The entrance to the lower level of the house is on the back side of the home. Walk from the driveway around the left side of the house through the grass down to the door to get in. There are lights along that side of the house, a porch light, and motion light at the back door.

Other things to note
During your stay the bedroom, bathroom, and media room are all yours, however, the laundry room is a shared space. To maintain your privacy we will notify you through the app well in advance if we should need to use that area. If on an extended stay we will coordinate with you regarding periodic cleaning.

Ladies or couples only please in this shared but comfortable space! If you are looking for a budget-friendly spot without a lot of "fluff" (except kitty) you have found it! I have a student at LU and am looking for Airbnb to help us while also being a blessing to those coming to Lynchburg for a visit! ! A very simple home in a wonderful area with coffee shops and restaurants within walking distance. A great location for walking around and a quick drive to Liberty University, University of Lynchburg and Randolph College.

The space
The basement is set up as a big bedroom. It can be accessed by the basement door around the back of the house. You will enter into the brand new kitchen and from there enter into the rest of the private basement.

Guest access
You can access all areas of the basement. The first floor and second floor will not be available to enjoy.

Other things to note
The parking is in the front of our house, three spaces from the left, but the door to the basement is behind the house. You may also park one block up where there is street parking. The parking in front of the house is reserved except for the parking space three from left.
