- "Jean and Mike were wonderful hosts. The warmth of their personalities matches the charm of their historic home. We stayed in the Cayuga room, which has high ceilings and a modest amount of natural light. The furniture arrangement felt slightly... a desk or other table surface where one could write or work on the computer would go a long way. Brunch was delicious and generous. The hosts have excellent knowledge of the area and positive relationships with local businesses, so we made use of several of their vintner dicounts. Please note that guest rooms are accessed throughout the stay, and if you would prefer not to return to your room to find your personal items rearranged and moved, you may need to let the hosts know. The only factor that slightly detracted from our stay was the level of cleanliness. In additon to leak residue on the ceilings, debris around the edges of the room, spills on the carpet, and long-dead bugs, we also found used hair ties and water bottle caps on our bedroom floor in front of the chairs, indicating that the room isn’t thoroughly vacuumed between guests. Overall the stay was comfotable, and we were well atrended to throughout our stay. We hope to be back some day!"

Windgarth House has offered year-round hospitality in the heart of the Finger Lakes for 17 years. We rent this beautiful lake house by the week from Sunday to Sunday during the summer (late June until Labor Day) or for shorter stays the rest of the year (2 night minimum).

The house is on a quiet, well-maintained road, with easy access to the house: only four steps and you are inside! Lake access is equally easy. Just go down the internal staircase in the home, walk out the back door across a beautiful lawn with mature shade trees and the lake is right there. There are no cliff or staircases to navigate, as is common in other locations on Cayuga Lake. Or walk around the side of the house on a gently sloping lawn on one side, or just eight steps on the other side. There are no stairs and no road between the house and lake, as is common elsewhere on Cayuga Lake. The house is located on a cove near Sheldrake Point. The water is shallow at the shore and gradually becomes deeper along the dock, to about four feet at the end of the dock. It is ideal for wading and swimming for children of all ages and adults. We provide a canoe and kayak, life jackets and other water toys for our guests' use.
The house has free Wifi. There is central air conditioning and an additional Mitsubishi air conditioning unit in the downstairs living room/kitchen. In the fall, spring and winter, the house is heated with a forced air furnace and the heat/AC unit in the downstairs living area. A gas fireplace adds additional warmth in the downstairs kitchen/living room.

The house consists of two floors. Upstairs there is a full kitchen with a cafe table, a living/dining room with two sleeper sofas, a full bathroom, a queen bedroom and a twin bedroom. Both bedrooms and the living/diving room have views of the lake.

Downstairs, there is a queen bedroom, a full bathroom, a kitchen/living area with twelve windows overlooking the lake and a gas fireplace for colder times of the year, and recreation room with a 42" Smart TV for watching DVD's. The utility room has a washer and dryer for our guests' use.

Windgarth House sleeps 6 people in 3 bedrooms, and up to another 4 on one of the sleeper sofas upstairs or two inflatable full-size mattresses that you can place in the location of your choice.

Windgarth House is located on the west shore of Cayuga Lake, across the road from the Sheldrake Point Winery and Cafe. Only 12 miles from Taughannock Falls State Park, 10 miles from Trumansburg and 20 miles from Ithaca, it is nestled in a prime location.

The area around Windgarth House is ideal for long walks along the lake and biking. There are many hiking opportunities in the area, including at Taughannock Falls State Park.

- "Beautiful cottage property with all the amenities one could ask for. Plenty of cooking equipment and pantry essentials already there. Has a well system from lake, so we used bottled water for everything, mainly because a member of our group is pregnant. Wi-fi worked great for those of us working remotely. We did have to fix the BBQ handle to use it but it wasn’t a big deal. Location is great, easy to get all over the Finger Lakes. the weather didn’t cooperate much but we were able to use the canoe and kayak a few days. The gardens and yard were just so pretty…I have landscape envy. Communication with owner was easy and she was kind enough to give us some tips on where we could take the 2 elderly ladies in our party to view waterfalls. She also gave us great info on where to shop for food and necessities. Overall, highly recommended for a group stay in the Finger Lakes."

Traveling to nearby Ithaca was easy with opportunities for wonderful wine tasting, delightful dining experiences, and yummy homemade ice cream. The home has 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms and is located on the west side of Cayuga Lake, minutes from Seneca Falls (13 miles) and Ithaca (25 miles). It is close to the wineries on both Cayuga and Seneca Lake. Built in 1993, it has all the modern conveniences necessary for an enjoyable stay.

The lodge is based on a very spacious open floor plan with soaring cathedral ceilings, ample natural lighting and completely furnished. Sleeping accommodations include 3 bedrooms with queen beds, a loft with two single beds and 2 sleeper sofas which can be used if additional sleeping accommodations are needed. There are two full bathrooms and 2 fully equipped kitchens (1 includes a dishwasher). For eating accommodations there is a large dining table for 10, a smaller dining table for 6 and another table for 4. Two spacious living rooms come equipped with comfy couches along with 55 and 42 inch smart tv's.

A lake side deck has a comfortable wrought iron table and chairs with a barbeque grill. Additionally, there is a screened in covered porch with a love seat for those romantic moments.

A swing set and basketball hoop will provide hours of enjoyment if youngsters are in your party.

A short and enjoyable walk away is the Whitlock / VanRiper Nature Preserve managed by the Finger Lakes Land Trust. This preserve is comprised of 81 acres, well maintained hiking trails and a true rarity of 1,900 feet of undeveloped shoreline.

Cell phone reception is excellent. Wireless internet is available. There are 55" and 42" smart televisions with access to the internet as well as a DVD player with a small movie library available. A variety of board games are available.

Smoking is prohibited inside and around the house. Conservative use of the septic system, water supply and electricity is appreciated. Although the house is not child-proof, children are welcome. No pets allowed.

Occupancy is limited to 12 maximum on the property.

Our location is convenient to both Cayuga and Seneca Lake Wine, Cheese, and Art Trails. Owner lives close by to assist with all your needs. - "Thus far the experience has been great. The cottage is quaint, cozy, clean and has a kitchen that carries most of what is needed. Very quiet and a great getaway if you are looking just to slow down the pace. Downstairs bed is very comfortable. TV in living room is equipped with all the apps. The grocery store in Ovid is very meh but it is close; however, there are Wegmans stores in nearby Geneva and Auburn and they are PHENOMENAL (on par with or exceeding Heinen's in Ohio or Publix in Florida). Not alot of sit down food options nearby; again, you may need to travel to Geneva, Trumansburg, Ithaca, Watkins Glen etc for more dine-in options. Make sure to check out the Samich shop in Ovid on 96 across from the gas station. Phenomenal meat ball subs and lunch fare. Overall, I would rate this 5/5 thus far."

It is located near many wineries, breweries, and cider houses that run along the lake. It is about a 20 min. drive to Seneca Falls, where there are nice restaurants, grocery stores, etc. It is also about the same distance from very scenic waterfalls and hiking trails. On the south end of the lake is Ithaca, if you are looking for more of a college town feel. An added bonus for us was that we were able to use the garage to park our large fishing kayaks and trailer (this may not be an option for every visit based on available room in the garage, which the campground managers use for storage). You are not able to park cars in the garage, but their was ample parking in the driveway. Lynn and the managers of the property were responsive and made the check-in process very easy. We would recommend this stay for a small family or two couples away on a retreat. We will definitely look to rent this property again should we be in the Finger Lakes."

The House:
This stunning 3-level Contemporary Colonial Home is right on the water and has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.. An upscale luxury home that provides everything you will need for a relaxing, stress-free vacation. Every level has a lake view that won't disappoint.

Top level features a gorgeous Master bedroom with a King-size bed, spacious on-suite, soaking tub with a lake view, water closet, coffee/wine station, desk/work area and private balcony. Enjoy your morning coffee or sip some wine in the evening and take in all that lake life has to offer.

Middle level features a comfortable living area with a vaulted ceiling and open floor plan. The living room has a sectional sofa, 65" tv and a 2-story stone gas fireplace. The kitchen is stocked with everything you will need to prepare meals with ease. The dining area has a bay window and gives you exceptional views of the lake while you dine. The table comfortably seats eight and the island has three stools. There are two bedrooms on this level; one bedroom features a Queen-size bed and the second has a Twin-size bed and a twin trundle bed. Each room has a tv and they share a full size bathroom. This level also includes a spectacular wrap-around porch. There is plenty of seating, including a daybed. Peek around the corner and you will see a gas grill available.

Lower level suite features a private bedroom with a Queen-size bed including a tv and DVD player, kitchen area, kitchen table, living area with tv, full-size sofa-sleeper, full bathroom and laundry room.

The Game Room:
The garage has been transformed into a brand new game room. Grab a partner and play pool, ping pong, air hockey, bubble hockey, foosball, darts or shuffleboard. Take a bike ride on one of the four bicycles provided. A refrigerator/freezer is also available to keep your drinks cold.

The Backyard:
Lounge on the 125' of lakefront property or hang out on the dock with lots of seating provided. An indoor storage area has everything you will need: floaties, coolers, outdoor entertaining trays, drink buckets, beach towels, children's activities, grill accessories, life jackets and many games. The stone patio area offers a large outdoor dining area with market umbrellas, custom stone gas grill and custom stone gas fire table. Not enough? There are many places to relax: lounge chairs, hammock or the Adirondack chairs surrounding the firepit. You can also bring your boat or jet ski on vacation (let me know if you intend to bring a boat or jet ski). Tie up on the dock or use the lifts.

Still want more? All this is on the East side of the lake in Ovid, where there is a panoramic view of every sunset.

The Destinations:
Your lakeside retreat is located in the heart of wine country. You'll be surrounded by wineries, breweries and cideries. Need more activities? Sampson State Park offers biking trails, hiking, swimming, a playground, arcade, movies, pontoon rentals, boat launch and boat trailer storage. They also have live music and a food truck every Friday evening. There is a walking/biking trail to Sampson State Park just past the house at the end of the road. Try your luck at Del Lago Resort/Casino. Spend the day shopping at Waterloo Premier Outlets. Bring your golf clubs and play at Bonavista State Golf Course. Don't forget all that Taughannock State Park has to offer: waterfalls, gorge trails, swimming and hiking. Ovid also has many fruit and vegetable stands. Ithaca, Watkins Glen and Geneva are only a half hour away and offer festivals, boat cruises, night life, shopping and restaurants.

- "This cottage was perfect for our needs. Location was good for traveling to all the lakes. The house was well equipped with all the necessities and was very clean. So neat this was a former church which is now soon to be three cottages. We enjoyed the fire pit in the evening with our friends. This is your starting place to get out and enjoy the heart of the Finger Lakes. You will be amazed how uncrowded and wonderful it is. Walk along beautiful County Road 153 as it follows the shores of Cayuga Lake passing many stately old lake houses as well as award winning Sheldrake Point Winery. Not far down the road is O’Malley’s Cabin on the Lake restaurant.

If you own a boat or watercraft, there is a boat launch just down the street so you can enjoy being on the waters of Cayuga Lake.

Also, just down the street, you can board a boat for the “Water to Wine” tour which takes to you to wineries located on Cayuga Lake. If you would rather go by car, hire the “Main St. Driver”, a chauffeur who uses your car to take you to any of the more than 200 Finger Lakes wineries and brings you home safely.

A short drive can also take you to the famous Lively Run Goat Dairy, where delicious local cheese is crafted, and you can meet the fun- loving goats!

If you are a hiker, you’ll love the many local hiking and walking trails at Taughannock, Watkins Glen, Ithaca and Hector. If you’re a bird watcher, you can see Canada Geese, wild ducks, Loons, Herons, Osprey, and even Bald Eagles on or along the shores of Cayuga. You can also visit the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge at the northern end of Cayuga Lake. A short drive will take you to Deer Haven Park, the official site of the Seneca White Deer tours to see rare white deer.
