Excellent experience." - "This was our second year stay at Rainbow Lodge. Once again, we would gladly give this place a 5+ star rating. Everything you could possibly need is already included in this home away from home. The owners, Matt and Brandi are quick to respond with any questions or concerns you may have and so very helpful. Waking up to the sounds of Lake Superior, directly across the street is divine. And not only watching hummingbirds just outside the kitchen window but hearing their motors roar while sitting outside on the porch has its own fun. And out back, what a perfect way to relax after a day of hiking and exploring the area at the firepit with plenty of wood to keep that fire going until the wee hours of the morning. Also perfect was having a washer & dryer at our disposal which meant packing less and coming home with clean clothes. What a concept! CJ's "cabin" is located in the old mining town of White Pine. About 5 miles from the lake, it's the perfect base camp to explore the UP, hike the Porcupine Mountains, hunt agates on the beach or just relax. Most of the homes in White Pine were built as identical "company houses", but CJ's has been remodeled with raised ceilings and wood paneling for the rustic, cozy feel of a cabin retreat. The master sleeps two on a queen Tempur-Pedic memory foam mattress. The small bedroom sleeps one and the foldout sofa in the living room sleeps two kids or one adult.
CJ's is just minutes from the Konteka Black Bear Lounge and snowmobile trails, and a short drive will take you on beautiful adventures exploring the Porcupine Mountains or to the beach. Please note: The property IS NOT on Lake Superior. White Pine is about a 5 minute drive from the lake.
If you want to stream and chill or game after exploring the area, we have 500 Mbps Internet with Roku and Sling, so just be sure to bring your login/password info for whatever apps you use.
Our mission is to provide you with the cleanest, coziest place to relax - a place that feels more like a home away from home than a rental. We have both a Keurig coffee machine and a drip pot. K-cups are provided. There is a new grill and propane is provided. Both the refrigerator and shower water are filtered and you don't have to worry about bringing your own shampoo or bath products; all the bedding and towels are new and we pride ourselves on fast communication to help you with whatever you need.
IMPORTANT UPDATE: For those who have stayed with us before or those of you reading the reviews, the PRIVATE BEACH will be available for the rest of this summer and fall (2025). IT WILL NOT be available in 2026.

A true piece of majestic grandeur on Lake Superior near the Porcupine Mountains. A stunning home nestled in a coastal boreal forest with full access to a private nature sanctuary and beach at the mouth of the Mineral River on Lake Superior! Eight hundred feet of frontage on the Mineral River, great for paddling and fishing and 400 feet of beach on Lake Superior, perfect for summer days with kids. No other homes are within sight anywhere on the property. This truly feels like your own private wilderness. There are newly constructed boardwalks and nature trails, making the beach and property easily accessible.
Located a stone's throw from the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park with a beach that continues for a quarter mile onto public land. Don't miss a stay at the most stunning accommodation in the region.
Guests will have full access to the entire house. Upstairs rooms have views of Lake Superior through the forest! This nature-themed eco-lodge has everything needed for a great vacation in the U.P. with a spectacular beach and access to the Mineral River, private nature trails, and boardwalks. A great place for kids and adults with 5 separate rooms with guest accommodation, plus common areas, 3 porches, and a gas Weber grill available for use. The cupboards are fully stocked with dishes, dish towels, pots, pans, utensils, and silverware - pretty much everything you would need for meal prep/cooking, including a coffee pot. A closet with games and additional toys and two spacious living areas downstairs are ideal for low-key social events and family gatherings. However, large gatherings, such as weddings, are not allowed on the property due to possible impacts on the driveway, septic, and beach.
Bonus: a shipwreck sits just offshore within easy reach of experienced kayakers and paddleboarders.
This is very private! No houses/neighbors can be seen from the residence or anywhere on the property. The house is a short walk (100 ft) from your own slice of sandy beach in a coastal boreal forest which is contiguous with the most beautiful beach in the Porcupine Mountains with natural sand dunes. Only minutes from Lake of the Clouds and countless beautiful hikes and waterfalls in the state park, the Ottawa National Forest and beyond! There are plenty of restaurants and a few stores about a mile away in Silver City, yet when you are here it certainly feels like the wilderness with the continuous roar of Gitche Gumee. The nearest snowmobile trail is less than a mile away.
- "This property was a perfect place from which our family could explore the Porcupine Mountain State Park. It is only a few short miles from the park entrance. Its location on Lake Superior and the Mineral River is very private and beautiful. Detroit Zen Center monks & students use this hermitage for retreats half the year, and rent to guests the other half. Our hermitage has a tri-level floor plan, and sits 100 yards from Lake Superior, with a 100 yard circular walking path down to 360' of her shoreline (pebbles & rocks). Set on 8 rolling acres of wooded land, 2 woodstoves we have a traditional Finnish wood-fired Sauna just behind the main cabin. The property sits 1/4 mile from the entrance to Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park.
Entering off the main road, down a 1/4 mile wooded drive, to park in front of the large tongue-and-groove hand-milled home, with a friendly front porch with a stone chimney, chairs & lots of wood! Enter into a light-filled, spacious, open concept main living area - living - dining room - kitchen. It includes a woodstove, wood floors, stone chimney, smart tv, surrounded by huge windows & a wall of sliding glass doors going out to a deck that looks down to the lake & the walking paths. The dining table seats 8. At the back of the main floor is a master bedroom with its own stone chimney & woodstove, as well as a large picture window overlooking the land. Just outside the master bedroom is a full, marble tiled bathroom.
Upstairs is a loft bedroom, with a private bedroom with its own large deck adjacent. The loft has a full bed with an antique desk & walk in closet. The adjacent fully enclosed bedroom has a king sized and a full sized bed, and a large deck.
Downstairs is a lower level walkout -- a standalone space with a sitting room, bedroom, and full bathroom, as well as a separate entrance door that leads to a deck, the walking trails & lake.
The heating system is very efficient & radiant (no furnace or forced air noise/dust), and we are very well insulated -- the 2 woodstoves add charm & coziness in winter. In summer, the lake keeps us cool, but we do have AC here as well.
Our road leads to the Lake of the Clouds, and is within minutes of endless hiking, cross country trails, waterfalls, & 2 miles from the Porcupine Mountain Downhill Ski Resort. Our hermitage is set 1/4 mile down a driveway, away from the main road, and is very quiet, and very private. Our land is filled with old-growth hemlock, oak, maple, cedar & pine. Deer & turkey & other wildlife are abundant. We enjoy exploring all the area has to offer, and it truly is like heaven on earth here.
We have high speed wifi, and use it for our phone service (cell service is spotty up here). We have a smart tv with Roku, and you can use netflix, hbo, fox sports, tcm, and much more. Our shoreline is lovely and rocky -- 1/4 west is an endless sandy beach as well. The historic mining town of Ontonagon is 12 miles east (15 minutes), where you can find an IGA grocery store, hospital, & full amenities. We are just outside Ontonagon in Silver City, where there is an Americinn Hotel 1 mile away, with a full bar & menu, or try Konteka -- a bowling alley & full restaurant 6 miles away in White Pine.
- "We wanted a place near Lake Superior, and boy did this place fit that desire. You can see the lake down through a short path. At the end of the path, you'll find a firepit, kayaks, and plenty of seating. The house was clean, and the kitchen was stocked well for cooking utensils. It was incredibly quiet at the house, mostly birds and the waves. The host was extremely communicative and wanted to ensure we had everything we needed. We even used the swinging grill over the firepit on the side of the house. It's perhaps a 15 minute drive from Lake of the Clouds (you could even bike up there if you wanted), and about 15 minutes from Ontonagon if you need a proper grocer. Caveats for guests would be to make sure you have bug spray, and maybe some warmer clothes for cool evenings to be outside. You can swim from the shore, but you may want water socks to walk on the rocks below the water line as they're a bit slippery until you can get to a good depth. There are sand beaches in either direction nearby. As for the accuracy of the listing, I may not have properly understood the layout of the BRs. Nothing wrong for our party, just wasn't what I'd envisioned after reading the description. I think everyone in our party would be happy to go back. Thanks again!"

- "Was great perfect for what we were looking for before our hike in the porkies. " - "As described, very close to many attractions." - "The host thought of everything! Very well stocked on things & even the little extras. Very close to hiking! So enjoyed our stay!" - "Very nice property. Highly recommend for anyone touring the area." - "At first was apprehensive as always when booking any property especially when I couldn't find on maps but host gave us guidance on directions. Everything was nice and comfortable. The hot tub was nice also even if we didnt use it. We had 2 deer yearling come visit first morning at breakfast and got to see a very fat bear at Konteka which is pretty close by. This a really quite and dark area close to Lake Superior and Porcupine park. It was cool to do star gazing as OMG on a clear night its crazy clear. Looking for Yooper rocks was a hoot at night on Lake Superior beach so bring a good UV light. The only complaint i have if I had one is the pet policies needs to be outlined better on the listing. We would definitely stay here again. "

- "Very nice place. " - "I took my two adult kids away for my son’s 30th to someplace he wanted to visit-Porcupine Mountains. This home is amazing in every way from the lovely outside deck to the inside cozy. We cooked together, had some drinks and just enjoyed being together. When Beeca said it’s close to the park, she want kidding! Lake of the Clouds is right down the road also. The place is away from Ontonagon but it’s a short 15 minute drive. I couldn’t have been happier with the rental and the communications I had with Becca the owner. I look forward to coming back here again !"

Welcome to The Silver City Lighthouse! Located on the shores of Lake Superior and down the road from the Porcupine Mountains, we are a perfect home base for exploring the western park of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
- "great location" - "If you’re interested in Lake Superior sunrises or sunsets this is the place for you! The views were unbelievable. We stayed here as a family of 6 and everyone had a great time! We enjoyed swimming in the lake and throwing rocks in the river. The only downside is I believe the house is owned by the Americinn behind it. I didn’t realize we would be on the hotel property so there were hotel guests walking right in front of our place (front yard) to go to the water and talk on the phone. Based off the listing I thought it would be more secluded. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it for anyone that is looking to visit the Porcupine Mountains /Lake of the Clouds. We had the best time!!"

- "Very cozy home only about a 10-minute drive from the Porcupine Mountains Visitor's Center. Fast wifi and Roku TV with streaming were great amenities for resting between adventures." - "Nice house, quiet neighborhood right up the road from snowmobile trail" - "In the yoop for a few days of snowmobiling. Super clean and well appointed rental. We usually find the kitchens lacking and this is not the case here. Comfortable beds and plenty of room. Nice sized living room with a comfy couch and a separate dining area made this a perfect choice for our family. "
