Minnesota’s 1st Iron Mine was located on the Vermilion Iron Range and is now a State Park and Scientific Research Facility. Native Americans have occupied the Lake Vermilion area for the past 5,000 - 7,000 years and traces of their presence can be seen all around, by those with a keen eye.

Primo bottles are from Walmart. Chippewa Spring bottles are from Zup’s.
*** Pick up after your pet. Waste can be buried on the back of the Island along with fish entrails. Shovel provided.

This lakeside pet-friendly 3-bedroom cabin is located on Wakemup Narrows convenient to both east and west ends of Lake Vermilion. It was lovingly built by our family in the 1960's and 70's.

Walk about a minute from the cabin’s front door down the short staircase or the slight path to the lake and guest dock. Or hang out on the attached deck for great sunsets, Northern Lights or simply enjoying the local wildlife including soaring bald eagles and loons fishing in the channel.

You'll delight in this licensed and inspected cozy cabin's amenities including potable water, central air conditioning and heating plus ceiling fans to ensure your comfort, free WiFi and a crackling wood-burning fireplace (firewood provided).

The cabin features Northwoods-themed bedrooms with a king in Bald Eagle Bedroom 1, two sets of custom-built pine bunkbeds in Forest Animals Bedroom 2 and a hand-made pine double bed in Fishing Bedroom 3.

If your goal is fun on the water, the property has sufficient dock space for 2 boats up to ~22ft long. It also has a small sandy beach between docks and its own unmotorized fleet: a tube for tubing, 2 water bikes, 2 regular kayaks, an inflatable kayak, a paddle boat, noodles and floating one-person rafts. Beach towels and extra life jackets are available.

If it’s raining, never fear, you’re covered with a selection of games, puzzles, a DVD player with a video library, craft supplies, books for both adults and children and 2 TVs with Roku for streaming your favorite shows.

Amenities for fishing enthusiasts include plenty of parking for up to 4 total vehicles (cars + trucks + trailers), a trailer dolly, a power outlet at the dock, a fish cleaning station with running water inside the boathouse, a small refrigerator in the boathouse and an extra freezer in the cabin for your catch (if you need more space than the regular freezer). The guest dock is visible from Polley’s Landing which is about 2min away and has on-water gas for boats.

The well-stocked kitchen has plenty of counter space to prepare your favorite meals, offering a full-sized stove, oven and refrigerator / freezer plus a microwave and more than enough cookware, utensils, dishes and small electric appliances than you're likely to need (or so past guests tell us).

If you’re in the mood for outdoor cooking, fire up the propane grill, charcoal grill or smoker (yes, we have all 3). Or gather around the fire pit to roast marshmallows (grilling forks, pie irons and fire starters provided).

The tiled bathroom includes a flush toilet, shower, sink and large mirrored vanity with plenty of room for toiletries. The cabin also provides essentials including bed linens, plenty of towels, basic soaps, blow dryer and paper products.

In Nearby Cook: grocery store, pharmacy, gas, bait, laundromat, bank, movie theater, McD’s, bakery, hospital, churches, ice cream, dollar store, liquor store, bar, Farmer’s market (Sat AM), art gallery.

- "Well kept with everything you need! Beautiful lake front for swimming and playing with all the toys (water bike, kayak, paddle boat). Good dock for tying up your own boat. Close enough to town to run in for forgotten items, yet truly in the wilderness. Can see the stars and hear the loons calling. Terrific place for a family vacation!" - "Sweet little cabin with friendly hosts. My husband loved the fishing and was able to catch Pike, Walleye, Small Mouth Bass and Sunnies. I loved that we didn't have to keep our dog on a leash when he was outside. - "My wife and I had a wonderful time! The place was so peaceful off the main lake in Black Bay. Easy boat ride to the Landing for on the water dinning. Very relaxing. The property was very clean and offered plenty to do. The lodge was a really nice place to hang out on the screened porch. Alex and his wife we’re very good hosts and obviously keeping this place pristine!" - "The lake is very pretty--lots of big trees all around. This was our first time at Lake Vermilion. Vintage Vermilion worked great for our family. The cabin was rustic, cozy and had what we needed. We rented the fishing boat 3 of the days of our 5 night stay. We tried our luck at fishing and only caught little ones--but were able to have a fish fry one of the days there. Our girls--age 12 and 9--had more fun tubing. When we rented the boat, we were able to take out the tube, water skis, etc. There was also a canoe, paddle boat and kayaks we could borrow ... which was nice. We were wishing they had a few stand up paddleboards. A few of the nights we used the large fire pit which had firewood at the ready and made S'mores with other camp guests. We ventured over to The Landing, the casino in Fortune Bay and The Vermilion Club all by boat. We liked the Landing best and went there a few times. We will likely be back to Lake Vermilion and Vintage Vermilion for more lake adventures."

The Birch Cabin is nestled in the tree line, compact but versatile. The kitchen is equipped with an electric stove, microwave, full size refrigerator, coffee maker and table settings, etc.
With Birch cabin, you have two bathrooms. One, 1/2 bathroom inside the cabin with toilet and sink. Additional large size bathroom for Birch with a shower, sink and toilet. The 'Shower House' is merely steps away. Birch cabin can sleep 4 comfortably; maximum 5 persons. Two bedrooms, one with bunk bed (twin top bunk/ double bottom bunk) & another with a double bed. We can accommodate extra persons with rollaway bed ($70/night). Electric heat & one A/C unit (new in 2022.)

Own boat dock right next to the cabin." - "Management and caretaker were very responsive, friendly and eager to help. Grounds were well cared for and Larch Cabin was surprisingly large enough to comfortably accommodate 4 grown guys. Internet meets minimum requirements, but is not reliable and is not good enough to use for work applications. Might be better that way. :) Would 100% do it all over again."

Outside the dock has two fingers making boating a breeze and there is a beach with toys, kayaks, canoe and a permanent raft to swim to! Trash is picked up every other day....and the access to the resort gave our grandkids an amazing experience. We could go on and on but you will draw the same conclusions that it's amazing. This a classic Northern Minnesota 3-bedroom Lake Vermilion "Cabin", on 2.5 wooded acres with 200 ft of natural shoreline, road access, that is perfect for privacy and access to all areas of the lake. With a master bedroom with a king-sized bed, 2 guest bedrooms with 2 twin beds in both, and a futon in the loft, guests will find the accommodations very natural and cozy.

Parking for trucks, cars and trailers is available in the form of 24'x80' and 18'x45' pads, in addition to driveway space and turnaround area.

For all people not familiar with this area of the United States, or just not familiar with this lake, Lake Vermilion is one of the southernmost Canadian Shield lakes in North America. What this means is that in contrast to a "kettle" lake, where chunks of the ice shield during the last ice age broke off, made depressions, and melted to form a lake, Canadian Shield lakes are characterized by exposed rock due to the glaciers scraping away the organic sentiment. The result is a large, ancient, horseshoe-shaped region of exposed Precambrian rocks, primarily in eastern and central Canada, forming the core of the North American continent.

In combination with this natural beauty, the northern shoreline of the lake is designated as a part of the Superior National Forest, in addition to a small section bordering the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, resulting in over 50% of the shoreline being undeveloped.

Location of the cabin is at the boundary of the west and east side of this 40,000 sq. acre lake, and in close proximity to the Timbuktu full-service marina.

Lastly, the lake is reported to have an island for every day of the year, with one island big enough to contain 2 small lakes, while some are barely large enough to stand on with both feet.

All combined it is an incredibly beautiful lake, and during the growing season very active with all types a fish, birds, insects and land-based critters.

The cabin is approximately 160' from water's edge, with the vertical rise from the dock to the deck stairs rising approximately 15'. Trees and ground vegetation have been left natural around all sides of the "cabin" to ensure privacy, When sitting on the deck or in the cabin, you will be able to see the lake and activity on the water, but when leaves and vegetation are out, it is difficult for anyone on the water to see the cabin and activity in and around it.

The cabin features a main bathroom with a tub, shower, and toilet separated by a door from the vanity, and master bedroom with a private deck, closet, and bathroom with a walk-in shower, toilet, and double sink.

The kitchen is fully equipped, with a double sink overlooking the lakeside, a second sink on the opposite side of the kitchen, and a center island with stools. There are two refrigerators, the main one in the kitchen equipped with an ice and water dispenser, with the second outside a sliding door on the screen porch. There is a microwave, standard oven with 4 burners, and a 3-burner Weber propane grill for use on the screen porch or main deck, depending on weather conditions.

The cabin also includes in floor radiant heat, landline Wi-Fi, washing & dryer, and a sauna with a cedar interior and Kuuma wood burning stove at water's edge.

Every room on the main level of the cabin has one of more screened windows, allowing for natural light and fresh air during the day or when sleeping. There are 7 ceiling fans in total, in all bedrooms, the loft, kitchen, great room and screen porch. Ceiling fans are also equipped with a light fixture, and every bedroom has a switched outlet.

Outside the main living area is a 12'x24' screen porch, attached to a 10'x34 main deck also accessible from the kitchen. On the main deck you will experience the benefit of the sun rising to the left when facing the lake, warming the screen porch and main deck as it travels across the shoreline. but by 3-4pm the main deck is shaded from the sun allowing for comfortable conditions during appetizers and dinner on the deck.

Radiant in-floor heating on the main level is controlled by a thermostat in the central hallway. If the radiant heat has not been run for a few days, it will take a couple hours to warm the main level. Once the floor warms, everything will become warmer, including the furniture and beds.

Down the path from the main deck is a path leading to the sauna and water storage area. The front section is a 10'x10' storage area for water activities, with the back section being the 8'x10' sauna.

Firewood is supplied for use in the Fire Pit in front of the great room and for the wood stove in the sauna.

In addition to outdoors activities, indoor exercise equipment includes a Water Rower rowing machine, yoga mats, mat towels and mat cleaning solution.

Internet access is available through 20mb/sec landline service, in addition to 5G cellular service. As shown in the pictures there is a television and stereo system with wired speakers under the television, and wired speakers in the kitchen ceiling.

The views of the lake were amazing and there were loons, owls, and hummingbirds. Everything was as advertised and the few questions that came up were answered immediately. We'd go again! The cabin was clean, well stocked and very comfortable and had a private dock with enough room for our personal boat and the pontoon we rented. If you want privacy, the cabins were nicely spaced with enough trees and natural vegetation to give you privacy. If you wanted to socialize, there is a wonderful beach area with a community fire pit, always stocked with plenty of wood, plenty of beach chairs, lots of beach toys for kids and adults alike. And the beach was cleaned every morning!! The kids also enjoyed the game room and playground, also well kept and clean. We rented a pontoon boat that was very fun, (even though the weather was not too cooperative) it was at our dock and ready to go when we checked in. It was clean and well kept with life jackets available, although we had brought our own. The staff provided us with a run through of how to run the boat and answered any questions we had. Staff was always readily available for gassing up the boat. The fishermen in our family were impressed with the fish cleaning house, availability of bait, and location on Vermillian Lake. Internet was no problem, we had one student with us who had no problem logging on for some vacation time school work. Phone reception was also good. Tom was easily reached by text or phone and was quick to respond to any question or need we had. Highly recommend White Eagle Resort for anyone wanting a family vacation that has something for everyone!"

This is a private rental but has the luxury of using Spring Bay Resort's amenities at any time you wish. They offer a fish house for cleaning after a great catch or grabbing bait or when it is needed. They have a great store located in the office with all different types of tackle they you may need depending upon what you are fishing for. Advice is always available!!

Also they have a nice sand beach with the following amenities: lounge chairs, sitting chairs, beach/sand toys, water sports equipment, paddle boards, paddle boats, canoes, kayaks & hydro-bikes.

Additional guests are $25/day or $100/week.
The daily rate is 1/5 of the weekly rate.

Pet Policy
$10 per pet per day...must be pre-approved...size limits and quantity must be approved before check-in...In consideration of our other guests, we require a $200 deposit which will be paid back one week after your cabin is cleaned/inspected by cleaning staff. Excellent boarding services are available in Cook. Please call us and we will be happy to provide you with complete information. Please be respectful to our pet policy.

Everyday I looked at this island cabin with envy as I motored from the dock. The folks at SB, from owners to dock hands, are friendly, helpful and genuinely interested in making your stay enjoyable. Musky fishing was tough during my stay but dock hands, guides and owners all offered tips and let me know that everyone was struggling. They even let me know that the bass fishing was hot and what tactics were working well. Being avid about muskies I chose to stick with skis but appreciated that they wanted me to be successful. I definitely recommend this resort and hope to make a return trip someday soon."
