The Dragonfly cottage is a semi-secluded chalet style home only ½ a mile to the South State Park (10-minute walk) or 2-minute drive to the much sought-after Higgins Lake. The cottage is 6.7 miles along roadside to snowmobiling/orv trail system
The cottage offers an open spacious floor plan with all the comforts of home including central air for those hot uncomfortable summer nights. Outside offers a canopy covered BBQ grill, picnic table, fire pit, outdoor chairs, porch bench & large driveway. Some items are not available in late fall thru early spring timeframe. We also offer wifi with a 50" smart tv that you can access Netflix or your other streaming accounts along with a dvd player & surround sound system.

Enjoy this cozy cottage, just a short one mile drive to crystal clear Higgins Lake boat launch.

Our cozy cottage is nestled in a lush, green forest setting, and is one mile from the sixth most beautiful lake in the world, Higgins Lake and just a few miles north of the largest inland lake in Michigan, Houghton Lake. We have local trails to explore for snowmobiles, quads, dirt bikes, ATV's and side by sides just around the corner. Only 4 miles from the 6/7 trail head at the US-127 exit 201 that you can ride to from the driveway. We have a front deck with a gas grill and furniture out back to help you relax and soak up the summer sun! There's a large outdoor table with chairs as well as a picnic table. We have a large double lot with wooded lots on both sides (no close neighbors!) that provide a peaceful private up north setting along with a stone bonfire pit out back for roasting s'mores under the stars. For those rainy days enjoy a game of cards under the cathedral ceiling covered porch out back with a ceiling fan and dimmable LED lights!

Gerrish Twp. park is a local boat launch that is one mile away. It provides docking, boat launch, fishing, picnic area, and much more as you enjoy our Northern Michigan summers. Perch, pike, and trout are among the fish that can be caught in Higgins Lake plus public restrooms and a rinsing station. All is accessible by car.

South State Park and Campground is just 2 miles away which also offers a public beach and boat launch as well as camping.

Local pizza and ice cream from Polar Parlar is less than a mile away as well as Nibbles Ice cream and a fully stocked party store. For more needs theres also a Dollar General.

The cottage sleeps 6 comfortably with option of 8 if double up on the two full beds. We prefer no more than 6 adults, so the 8 would be with a few kids. We've had 3 10 yr old girls sleep in one full bed a few times while there were spare beds available (don't ask me why). A cozy family cottage interior, and offers many amenities to make your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

With the cottage being located on the south end of Higgins Lake and conveniently located between US-127 & I-75 trips to Traverse City, Petoskey, Cheboygan and even Mackinaw Island are recommended day trips (each within 1.5 hours drive).

Thoughtfully done; nice looking and clean. A suggestion for the owners: adding plenty of wall hooks near the entry doors, in the bathroom, and in the bedrooms would be helpful. Replace the small dressers in the bedrooms with bookcases; they’re tall and narrow, and they’ll provide more/better storage. Replace the semi-sheer bedroom curtains with opaque curtains, or add privacy film to the glass. More toilet paper; one roll per day of stay, perhaps. Pleasant, wooded neighborhood, with a pretty little swimming area just on the other side of the adjacent Amvets lodge. Road-end lake access, no overnight mooring. Boat launches nearby. Recommended!"

The cabin does not have AC, we have 3 woozi remote control fans throughout the cabin. Large deck overlooking the creek and property and a firepit to enjoy the summer and fall nights. Coveniently located 3 minutes from North Higgins Lake State Park, there is also a paved bike trail a few minutes away. Higgins Lake is 1 block from the cabin. All amenities are included, such as a fully stocked kitchen, towels and linens all provided. Enjoy the chill vibe and beautiful crystal clear waters of Higgins Lake in the summer and the fall color change and gorgeous groomed xc ski trails nearby for winter getaways.

It was a perfect fit for us…a mother, daughter and grandson. Beautifully decorated and still had so much original charm from the vintage appliances to the massive antique sink in perfect condition. Everything you could need was at our fingertips from fans to heaters. We were greeted with a bottle of Rosé, the linens were top notch and the sofas were solid, comfortable and spacious. Water pressure was great and towels luxurious! She had magical outdoor lighting and anything else you could need was available in the shed…grill, beach chairs and floats, etc. Cottage was clean, offered books and games, plus Wi-Fi, with Netflix, & Amazon Prime. The owner was quick to respond and very kind. Wouldn’t have changed a thing and will most definitely book again in the future. Could see the lake from the front, nice short walk to Higgins. Amazing location close to pretty much everything. North beach right around the corner."

This cabin is my personal 3rd generation place. We have personal pictures of family memories. This is a rustic cabin with personal items. Many rentals are like hotel rooms - this is not . If you wish to rent a place that is only a rental on the lake, this is not it! It will not be perfect - toys from 3 generation are on display there. Most people love it! I don’t want you to rent my place and then complain because it’s not sterile enough. There are many renters who think it’s wonderful and try to return. If you are picky or finiky, wanting brand new towels and nothing personal left in our cabin, then please‼️ rent another Cabin‼️ We do not want another bad review because they expected differently or didn’t read the description. We very seriously considered discontinuing renting because of the 1 bad review. If this makes you think twice, then please go to another rental‼️ This cabin rents quickly so leave the opportunity to others who will appreciate it ‼️

Cabin was clean and had plenty of space for my family of 4 and my parents even joined us 2 nights. It had a washer and dryer for clothes, air conditioning, and a grill which were all a plus. Lady Slipper Lake House is only 500 feet from Higgins Lake! We share a seasonal dock with other owners on Lady Slipper Lane, but no overnight moorage is allowed. In the summer you can use the dock to access the lake to swim, fish, and other water based activities. In the evening, fire up the gas grill, grab a glass of wine and enjoy a campfire in the backyard with our fire pit, six adirondack chairs and picnic table. In the winter, it is just a stone's throw away to enjoy ice fishing and snowmobiling on Higgins Lake.

Lady Slipper Lake House is located 2 miles from South Higgins Lake State Park where you can launch your boat in the summer and 1.8 miles from the Cross Country Ski Headquarters from wintertime cross country skiing. We are located an hour and a half from Mackinaw City and Harbor Springs, the start of Michigan's "Tunnel of Trees". It's only a few minutes to state land for hunting, or to enjoy hiking trails around Marl Lake. Within a 30 minute drive you can reach the beautiful old growth forest of Hartwick Pines State Park, and as well as world class trout fishing on the Ausable River. Boyne Mountain resort for winter skiing and tubing is one hour away as well.

There are two bedrooms and and one full bathroom (shower only). We can accomodate 6 guests with one queen bed, one full bed, and two twin beds. The bedrooms were just renovated and one bedroom has a queen bed and the second bedroom has a set of twin bunk beds and a full size bed. If you need to work remotely there is also a desk in the bedroom with the queen bed. The house is cooled in the summer by window units (living room and bedrooms) and heated in the winter by a forced air furnace. Additionally, there are wall heaters in the bedrooms to make sure you are warm and cozy on cold Michigan winter nights.

Pets are welcome for a fee, but you must include them in the VRBO reservation.

We offer free Wi-Fi to our guests and a smart television so that you can access your Netflix or other streaming accounts. Live TV is available through our smart TV's "Youtube TV”app.

The kitchen is stocked with dishes, glassware, pots/pans, silverware, dishtowels, dish soap, sponges, paper towels, and various cleaning supplies. Toilet paper, shampoo, soap, hairdryer, towels, and washcloths are also provided. As an extra convenience, we offer a complimentary coffee and tea bar.

Our "Brass Bell" is the coziest beach house on Higgins Lake - the perfect lakefront retreat in Up North Michigan. We are the cabin that is directly on the lake, you can walk down to the steps and onto the beach. We have the cleanest cabins, with the absolute best views on Higgins Lake!

This lakefront cabin is located on Higgins Lake in Michigan - Higgins Lake was voted the #1 Lake in Michigan for Clarity and Beauty and the #6 most beautiful lake in the world! This rental is a one bedroom getaway that sleeps up to four people and has one full bathroom. The fully-equipped kitchen features a microwave, coffee maker, utensils, and dishware. Outside, guests will find a nice deck with furniture, perfect for unwinding and watching the sunset over the lake and trees. The Higgins Lake Hideaway is a super cute traditional woodsy cabin just 3 blocks from beautiful Higgins Lake! The home features 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, 2 living rooms, a kitchen, a dining area, and a separate breakfast table. It sleeps up to 5 adults in the 2 bedrooms. Includes streaming television with Roku. It is "pure northern Michigan" in its traditional northern Michigan woodsy design and provides for a true northern Michigan experience! NEIGHBORHOOD:

The cabin is just 3 blocks from the south shore of Higgins Lake, which is widely recognized as one of the most beautiful lakes in Michigan! The neighborhood is made up mostly of smaller cabins, the vast majority of which are vacation homes. There is a party store (Good Times Party Store) nearby that is only 0.6 miles from the cabin. The village of Higgins Lake is on the west shore of Higgins Lake and is about 5 miles from the cabin. There is bar and grill (Silver Dollar Pub & Grill) in the village. The area is very popular for fishing, ice fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing.

"Higgins Lake is a large recreational and fishing lake in Roscommon County, in the U.S. state of Michigan. The 9,900 acres (4,000 ha) lake is known for its deep, clear waters and is the 10th largest in Michigan with a shoreline of 21 miles (34 km). It is named after Sylvester Higgins, the first chief of the topographical department of the Michigan Geological Survey. It has a maximum width of 4 miles (6.4 km) and a length of 7 miles (11 km) with a maximum depth of 135 feet (41 m). The mean depth is 44 feet (13 m) and the lake contains almost 20 billion cubic feet (570×106 m3) of water. Its retention time is about 12.5 years. The lake's watershed covers 19,000 acres (7,700 ha). The twin-lobed lake receives half of its water from submerged springs, six percent from incoming streams, and the remainder from direct rainfall and runoff. Both provide public boat launches and camping, and are very popular in the summer months. The south park is older, larger, and more developed. The north park is located on what was once the world's largest seedling nursery, a part of the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s and early 1940s.

3) AIR CONDITIONING: Please note that the property does NOT have air conditioning. As such, it may get warm in the house during the summer if it is warm outside. Please also note that portable air conditioning units are not permitted for use at the property.

4) NUMBER OF GUESTS: Please note that our pricing is based upon the number of guests, with pricing being higher with each additional guest that is included on the reservation. Please make certain that the correct number of guests is specified on the reservation so that the pricing is correct.

5) EARLY CHECK-IN: Our policy is to allow early check-in on the day of arrival if the property is available for check-in. - "Property was suitable for what we needed it for. Had a blast with my son and friends " - "No doubt the lake was beautiful and very close by. We loved that. But if i have to be honest I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the inside and outside. Coffee pot was dirty, microwave was dirty &, there were a ton of spiderwebs everywhere and the house smelled incredibly musty. The outside trash was overflowing which made me wonder how long it had been since the trash had been picked up.The yard had multiple piles of dog poop and could of used mowing or a little weed whipping at the least.The grill was left uncovered so we didnt dare use it. On the positive side, the bathroom was one of the rooms that was very clean and there were alot of amenities. My cousin and I cleaned the plastic table & chairs found in the far back of the yard and spent most of our ttime sitting on those outside due to the smell of the house. We cleaned like crazy before we left because we were worried new tennants would walk into what we did.Ive been using virbo and renting cabins/cottages for 15 yrs...I will say the place does have great potential but it needs more effort spent on upkeeping the yard and cleanliness. The communication was AWESOME and although this review is not super I still believe with improvements it could be very nice"

Higgins Lake was my mom and step dad’s favorite place to vacation. The cottage is very clean, beautifully decorated and has everything you need including the supplies for a campfire. The owner was very easy to communicate with. I would definitely love to stay here again! There is a beautiful hiking trail located directly across the street! The house sits on a main road and you have one house near you that’s vacant. Tons of privacy! No one is behind the house so you have scenic views of the woods. The house is a 3 min drive to Kelly Beach and 7 minute to South Higgins State park where you can launch your boat and go to the public beach. You are also close to Gerrish twp beach which is also beautiful.
This home is much bigger in person compared to the pictures. All the furniture is brand new and very comfortable. Both couches convert into a king size bed and we have added new patio furniture on the back deck. This is the perfect space for comfort, location, privacy and value. Get away and stay in this cozy cabin. Its knotty pine interior gives it a wilderness feel, yet the space has some modern decor. It's centrally located and close to both the North and South Higgins Lake State Parks (6 miles). Grocery, gift shops, beach, sunsets, the playground is close; restaurants and ice cream not too far. Hammock, twinkle lights at the picnic table. Two TV rooms so adults and kids can watch their own shows. Canoe liveries in Roscommon, 20 miles away.

The space
The house and surroundings are quiet and remote. It's very close to Good Times Party store (.5 mile) and both the North and South state parks (6 miles each). Grocery store, canoe liveries, and shopping in the town of Roscommon (20 miles). Higgins Lake Hardware and Higgins Lake Market for deli and donuts is 2 miles away.

Guest access
There is a beach close by, Sam O Set Beach- within walking distance (less than 1 mile). Guests may NOT access the road end "Hillcrest Lake Association"

North and South state parks (6 miles).

There are two boat launches-one is a little over a mile, also on Sam O Set Blvd. The West Higgins Lake boat launch is 3 miles away.

The Silver Dollar Bar and Grill is 5 miles west. The Cut River Grille is 5 miles away to the east (finer dining). Both have live music.

Other things to note
The property line ends right along the chairs by the fire pit. Please be careful not to allow children to run and play on the vacant grassy area alongside the property as it does not belong to us.


The manor has beach towels, beach chairs, and outdoor cushioned furniture. There is a corn hole game, darts, and board games. TV streaming apps: Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Paramount +.

We are on a SEPTIC SYSTEM, which means the only thing that can be flushed is the toilet paper that is provided. If other items are flushed which result in a back-up, guests will be responsible for plumbing costs.

The second bedroom is unattached from the house. The bunkhouse has a lock and two sets of bunk beds.

The third bedroom/game room is accessible via the back deck. It is a separate entrance from the main house.

Please do not use the Hillcrest Association BEACH at the end of the street. That is for association members only. Renters are not permitted in that space. Sam O Set park and beach are very close by, within walking distance (see photo), as well as the North and South State Parks.


This is a summer cottage. The main house is heated, however, the rec room and bunkhouse are not. The second and third bedrooms are detached from the main house (please see photos). This has not been an issue for guests during June, July and August.

When booking, please list the names of adult guests who will stay at the property, and the ages of all children under 18. You can request a change of names and number of guests, as long as it doesn't exceed eight people. Please contact me prior to your arrival date to request a change.

Three bedrooms fitted with king, queen, and two twin bunk beds give ample space for the whole family to sleep comfortably. When it's time to mingle, our open concept common area is a great place to unwind and have fun with your friends and loved ones, complete with relaxing wood burning fireplace and zero degree lounging couches. Our deck has a propane grill perfect for those backyard BBQs, and a firepit just waiting to toast marshmallows. Kids will have plenty of room to play and run in the yard and driveway space, and the peaceful surrounding neighborhood is a great place for long walks. Getting cleaned up is a breeze with our tub, shower, and handheld sprayer, giving options for personal preferences all around.

The AuSable River is just a stone's throw away from our home, providing a wonderful opportunity for canoeing or tubing on leisurely afternoons. Fishing enthusiasts will be thrilled with the exceptional fishing experiences available right at the river's edge, as well as at over 20 nearby lakes, including Houghton Lake and the spring-fed Higgins Lake, both known for their bountiful bass, trout, sturgeon, perch, and bluegill.

For winter sports lovers, ice fishing is a favorite pastime, and our location is a launching point for both ATV and snowmobile enthusiasts, with access to over 250 miles of trails ready to explore. The convenience of a circular drive ensures easy access for parking your recreational vehicles.

If you need to power up before heading out, we’ve conveniently installed an exterior battery charger for your use. Nature lovers will appreciate that state land is just out your front door. While hunting is not permitted on our immediate property, you'll have proximity to some of the best hunting options just a few steps away.

Golfers can enjoy a round at an 18-hole public course located less than a mile from our home, and for ski enthusiasts, the area boasts exceptional slopes. Foodies can revel in the pleasure of tasting Michigan’s best wines at the Leelanau vineyards, just under two hours away, where you can stock up on bottles to enjoy while relaxing on the back deck by the propane fire pit.

For those who prefer an old-fashioned backyard experience, we offer the use of a firepit; however, please ensure you follow local ordinances and stay aware of fire hazards during your stay. We’ve crafted this space with care, treating it as our own home away from home, and we’re excited to welcome you to share in all that it has to offer!

Higgins Haven is a mere four minute walk to the public beach and Samoset park.

My place is close to family-friendly activities,. You’ll love my place because of the ambiance, the outdoors space, the neighborhood, the light, and the comfy bed. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).

Chalet on Charlene is a 3-minute walk to beautiful Higgins Lake. The small dock is shared with several of our neighbors. This 3-bedroom, 2-bath cottage sleeps a maximum of 8 (plus one infant.... we have a Pac-n-Play available upon request. You'll enjoy a screened sunroom, a large deck, and lots of space for yard games and campfires. We have new appliances. We are 3 miles from South Higgins Lake State Park, a 10-minute drive to Roscommon. Easy access to I-75.

The space
Chalet on Charlene has now hosted families for five summer seasons! We have opened up the calendar for the summer and fall of 2024 . . . so book early to get the dates you desire. .

We continue to update spaces in between guests! We are looking forward to hearing suggestions from guests as we update, so we can create the best possible space for your time in our beautiful northern Michigan area! This is a four-season cottage in an area that has something for everyone in each season! Higgins Lake is magnificent in all seasons! Depending on the season, you can enjoy color tours, cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, snowmobiling, sledding, Ice fishing. And of course, Higgins Lake where swimming, boating, tubing, sailing, kayaking, and other water activities are part of daily life at the lake.

There is a road end dock very close to the chalet ( about a 3 minute walk). Guest may use the dock for entering and exiting the water. If you're looking for a day at the beach, both the South Higgins Lake State Park (3 miles from the chalet) and the North Higgins Lake State Park (about a 15 minute drive from the chalet) offer beautiful sand beaches, ample parking, and boat launch areas.

Looking for a winter getaway? The home is less than two miles from cross-country skiing and ice fishing, with downhill skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and snowmobiling nearby. Inside, there is plenty of room to move around and lots to do – curl up with a book, play board games, challenge someone to a game of ping pong, or perfect your golf short game with a putting mat.

The summer is all about Higgins Lake -- arguably the most beautiful body of water in Michigan. It's crystal clear waters are perfect for swimming and boating, and it is a short walk to the end of the road boat launch from the house.

Guests access the home by a unique 4-digit code sent via text the week of the reservation. Check-in is typically 3:00 p.m., but we try to accommodate early check-in requests when possible.

50 Amp EV Charging Plug available for use upon request. A flat daily fee will apply. Guest must provide their own portable plug for their personal use.
