- "The cabin was just right for two people. It had two nice bedrooms but only one bathroom with a very small shower. There was no broom with which to sweep the floor and at a lake property, that is important. Some of the electrical outlets (behind the couch) were not secure to the wall. This could be a fire hazard. A shelf in the small bathroom would be very useful for placing glasses or rings, etc when washing up. Otherwise, very, very nice."

- "Our stay was great! The cabin was incredibly clean. I felt like I was at home! My husband and I still comment how clean it was!! It had everything you could possibly need! Darla and Kevin were great hosts! Communication was a 10/10 for sure! We loved the location also! We spent one afternoon at Higgins lake, we went to traverse city a couple days, and the other days we just kinda explored! The 1 and only thing we wish was different was the couch. It seemed pretty old and just was not comfortable enough to be able to sit and watch a movie at night. Other than that everything was perfect!!! I’d definitely recommend staying with Kevin and Darla!!"

4 bed 2 bath family cottage, 3 min walk to the beautiful Higgins Lake with community dock. newly redone fire pit, large yard, plenty of out door seating on the large deck, nice and quiet area. 6 mile drive to the Silver Dollar Bar and Grill. 5 mile drive to the public boat launch with plenty of parking. There is no boat mooring at the road end doc. Our place is not a party house, it for people to hang out and have fun. We ask that quiet time is 10 on week days and 11 on weekends. We have neighbors that have been there for along time and as our guests we ask that you to respect them. Public areas like the dock need to be repected and know that its used by many and many houses are around. Please refrain from using cursewords , there are kids around.

This quaint lakefront 2 Br, 1 Bath cottage is located within a family friendly association on the southwest side of beautiful Higgins Lake. The lake is spring fed and clear with a sandy bottom so conditions are excellent for kids (and adults) to play and swim in the water. The cottage is completely furnished, very clean and well maintained.
The two bedrooms each have a queen bed. There is a queen sofa bed in the living room and a double sofa bed in the sunroom. Bed linens are furnished.
The bath has a tub/shower combination. Towels are furnished. Please bring your own beach towels.
The kitchen has an electric stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and toaster. Dishes and pots and pans are included. There is an ample eating area in the kitchen.

Such a beautiful little get a way." - "We have stayed at this little cottage 3 times over the last 7 summers and we always have a great time. Our mom actually stayed here as a kid before my grandparents built their house which is still right down the road. The host is always available and communicative and the residents in the area always make us feel welcome. You can’t find a better location and the price is just right. The only complaint we’ve had is that it gets too hot in the west side of the cottage in the afternoon and evening. They have added a portable a/c which helps. Otherwise, it is always a great stay."

The Cottage:
This beautiful, old, renovated, stick-style cottage is at the end of a long, private driveway off a one-lane, private dirt-road winding through old-growth forest with monarch trees. There's nothing but woods and private paths behind it. It overlooks clear and sandy Higgins Lake, previously rated 'the Sixth Most Beautiful Lake in the World'. Google aerialgraphics tenbest list to see photos; it's illuminating.

The cottage's 82 feet of lake-frontage includes a private dock and lido on the lake, down some stairs from an overlooking private deck, steps away from the large front-porch. The cottage's deck, dock, lido, side-yard, and lakefront are not shared with anyone but you and your guests while you're staying here.

Life on the Lake:
The cottage is part of a private Association of twenty cottages, each with its own dock, so waterfront features are NOT shared. The Association provides meals at a private table, reserved for your family, in a common Dining Hall --a five-minute walk through the woods. It's perfect for families, as all cooking [except Weds. dinners] and clean-up is provided from late June to late August, so staying here is a true vacation for everyone in the family. [Note: This is a separate bill, paid directly to the Dining Hall after your stay [not included rent]. Rates are ~$37/day for adults, less for kids under 13, and free under 5. There are NO exceptions in-season, so consider booking out of season if you are not interested in the Dining Hall.

The lake is clear and, on this side, shallow with great water for swimming, kayaking, sailing and all water sports. Features of Higgins Lake include an island, drop-offs, springs and sunken islands. Not far around the shore is B & B marina, where you can rent motorboats, tubes, kayaks, and all sorts of water toys.

Life in the Cottage:
The cottage features a beautiful, two-story Living Room [the heart of the cottage] with a lakestone-lined fireplace and large Screen Porch, both facing the lake.

The view is even better from a large, two-level Private Deck right over the lake on a bluff, a few steps from the Screen Porch. A stairway down from the deck leads to a private sunbathing area [the Lido] and a private dock, exclusive to this cottage, where you can swim and relax.

A private yard next to the cottage has a many Adirondack chairs and a pad for the outdoor ping-pong table.

An updated kitchen with granite counters, dishes, coffee-equipment, kitchen-tools, and appliances including a dishwasher is open to one side of the Living Room. However, you won't cook much, as you'll enjoy the great food in the Dining Hall [from June through August].

Three Bedrooms are on the first floor: [1] a Master Suite with king-size bed and a private Bath with shower and two sinks in granite counters; [2] a back Bedroom with two queen beds and a sink [can sleep four in a pinch]; and [3] a small Bedroom with a queen bed and a separate entrance to the Porch. A second Bathroom with a claw-foot tub, a shower and two sinks in granite is off the first floor hall, as is a laundry closet with a new washer and dryer.

The second floor is reached from an indoor balcony overlooking the Living Room [and the lake] leading to a knotty-pine Bunk Room with four built-in bunks, which appeal to smaller teenagers and kids [but are short for all but the smallest adults]. The Bunk Room has its own half-bath.

This cottage does not have a TV or a land-line phone. Free, password-protected WIFI is provided. Many guests bring laptops, and some use them to stream their favorite shows and teams.

More to do Outside:
The cottage Association has a tennis court you can use for free and extensive bird-watching and single-track walking trails, which you can explore.

Nearby activities off the lake include fishing, canoeing and tubing on the calm and beautiful Au Sable River and golf at Forest Dunes. Guided bird-watching tours leave regularly from Grayling and almost always spot the very rare Kirtland's Warbler, rarely seen [except by those in the know, in this part of Michigan].

Google an aerial photograph to see Higgins Lake in its splendor. The cottage is on the north shore, the least developed and most secluded part of the lake.

Unfortunately, we do not allow pets. We all have dogs and cats in our families, [including small, well-behaved, clean ones] so we understand it's hard to leave them behind. Please don't make a reservation and then ask us to make an exception for your pets.

The 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottages have been freshened up from top to bottom. Ruth has 1 Queen bedroom & 1 Full/Full bunk bedroom (plus a queen sofa bed in the living room). Paper products and all linens are supplied. You will just need to bring your beach towels. Ceiling fans in both bedrooms and in the living-room - Wifi - Smart TV with Cable - 2 Fire pits are shared between the 2 cottages.

No need to waste time at the boat launch on a daily basis. Instead, walk out onto our private dock and come and go as you please. Sandy bottom lake with a very gradual depth drop, making it great for kids and adults alike. Enjoy one of the most beautiful lakes and Sunsets you will ever see.

Each cottage comes with a small gas grill (there is also a shared charcoal grill), some chairs and a shared fire pit behind the cottages & another fire pit lakeside. The cottages are NON SMOKING.

The Twins are on the Northeast side of Higgins Lake (Sunset Side), located about 5 miles from Roscommon and 3 miles from I-75 exit 244. The cottages face the road end, but it's just a very short walk down the semi wooded lakefront lot to our private beach.

- "Everything was as advertised. Booked both cabins so had the whole place to ourselves. Very clean, and really nicely decorated so you didn't really feel like you were in a hundred year old cabin. Had all the basic amenities in the kitchen you would need, and plenty of towels. The lake is just a short walk away, spent a lot of time down by the beach having a cocktail or two. The boat mooring was very close and the dock was plenty long enough to load all the people and gear on. Spent every night around the fire, kinda felt like camping!! Hosts were very accessible. Can't wait to stay again!!"

South Higgins Hideaway is a lakefront cottage on the southern shore of celebrated Higgins Lake, in northern Michigan. Escape to the great outdoors with swimming, fishing, kayaking, boating, a firepit and hiking, all at your front door. The vintage Hideaway is located on sixty feet of sandy, crystal clear lakefront and is within walking distance to the South State Park. We have three bedrooms and 1 full bath. All three bedrooms have queen beds with plenty of pillows and linens provided. Please note; our third bedroom, the porch bedroom, is unheated and only available in the warmer months. Two kayaks are available for your enjoyment during your stay; life jackets are not provided.

Our kitchen is fully stocked with everything you'll need. A coffee pot, french press and grinder are on hand. The Microwave, toaster oven, griddle and blender will make your stay more comfortable. We provide clean linens and towels. We have a smart tv, wifi, lots of games, puzzles, books and vintage vinyl for hours of entertainment. Our wrap around, three season porch makes an ideal spot for an afternoon nap.

We're a 15 minute drive to quaint downtown Roscommon and 20 minutes from Houghton Lake. There are plenty of beaches, parks, disc and golf courses, all within a short drive. Pizza, icecream and the park store are all very close.

- "The house has many fun and charming details. We all enjoyed getting to know the house over the weekend. The owners leave a lot of helpful things around for your use like games, firewood, pokers, matches, spices, paper plates (no dw). There are some quirky things about the property; we were so charmed by it that there wasn't a complaint among us when we had to use extension cords for this or that. No laundry. We loved the huge sandbar area. Felt very special. Loved the two kayaks. Overall we all agreed it was far from the fanciest of rentals we've experienced but one of our all time favorites. We also made a quick 10 minute drive to Markey dog park to run our dogs each day. There's a cute coffee shop within a 5 minute drive. We also visited the Loom Room, Good Times and South Park Beach. Cindy's place is so close to everything. The screened in porch is the perfect place to drink coffee in the morning. Our kiddos love the bunk bed and look forward to staying here each year. No need to waste time at the boat launch on a daily basis. Instead, walk out onto our private dock and come and go as you please. Sandy bottom lake with a very gradual depth drop, making it great for kids and adults alike. Enjoy one of the most beautiful lakes and Sunsets you will ever see.

Each cottage comes with a small gas grill (there is also a shared charcoal grill), some chairs and a shared fire pit behind the cottages & another fire pit lakeside. The cottages are NON SMOKING.

The Twins are on the Northeast side of Higgins Lake (Sunset Side), located about 5 miles from Roscommon and 3 miles from I-75 exit 244. The cottages face the road end, but it's just a very short walk down the semi wooded lakefront lot to our private beach.

Just 1 block from the Lake with a nice view, our Cottage is next door to our "Post Office Cottage". It is divided by a large Breezeway. Each half has 1 queen bedroom, 1 twin bunk room & a living room with a TV. The excellent Wifi (Roku) & separate spaces are great for work/study & privacy. Extra clean & charming with decks out front & in the fenced in backyard. Charcoal grill, picnic table, 2 Kayaks w/cart & fire pit with lots of chairs. Pets must be pre approved with $30 pet fee. Just across the street from the convenient party store. Located in Sam-O-Set area, with it's own small public beach/playground and neighborhood boat launch.
