- "Great location, quiet and comfy querky rooms. Would definitely stay here again." - "Nice place. Great location. Nice breakfast with super friendly service." - "I visited Chepstow for a concert at the Castle and this hotel was the nearest hotel to the venue. It's old, homely and comfortable The contact free check in was a little worry with no text coming through in the morning, but this was sorted easily enough by phone call. The hotel is being renovated at the moment and TBH the rooms need a little love from the carpets to the bathroom. Everything is comfortable though and the location is perfect."

- "Nice and friendly " - "Lovely staff and a great breakfast" - "Lovely warm welcome from the staff and very well looked after the pizzas there are amazing and freshly made. The room was comfortable warm and ideal for an over night stay and just minutes from the castle as well the breakfast was made fresh and was cooked very well" - "Room was a bit tired but staff were lovely and couldn’t do enough for you " - "The staff are amazing: hardworking, kind, cheerful, helpful, empathetic and nothing is too much trouble for them. The food is excellent. The pizzas have a well deserved reputation. The building is a little tired. The bedroom needed some basic maintenance. £g. the window could not be left open as the part to fit the long arm onto was missing and so the window could have easily swung in the wind and broken. The cupboard next to the bed had a door which fell apart and simply needed some contact adhesive to fix. The cleanliness of the loos by the restaurants was not regularly checked and the loo brush was missing. The san bin needed emptying. There are not enough staff. The current staff were amazingly hardworking but could not possibly be expected to cover 12 rooms, serve, clean, take bookings, answer the phone, deal with some demanding guests (race course attendees etc}. Some of the staff looked overtired and in need of a holiday or a few days off at least. In terms of decor. A few pictures in the rooms or corridors would easily enhance. The iris flowers are pretty and the little flower arrangement in the room were sweet. There was no range of tea bags or biscuits in the bedroom. Staff were quick to supply decaff teabags and real milk on request. Overall a very relaxing stay. The bed was comfy, the room was quiet and the staff especially Charlotte, Sarah and Matteo delightful. The eco lighting system is great but the lights turn off too quickly and left me in darkness."

Room was spacious, clean and well appointed with a very comfortable bed. The private toilet / bathroom was across the landing (literally 2 steps from the bedroom, so don’t let this put you off). - "Property was lovely, just as per the pictures Stunnig view and great amenities. Our only issue was that the WiFi password given on the instructions was incorrect and the host never responded to messages for clarifications during our weekend. Which is only a minor thing in the grand scheme. We had a wonderful time overall." - "Fabulous view. Rooms worked well for us. Enjoyed the hot tub! Nice meal out at the Anchor Inn at Tintern Abbey - takes dogs. Lovely walks in the local area and very friendly people. However a few things that need sorting out. Heating needs fixing. Some radiators did not work at all and the house felt cold most of the time which was more difficult for our eldest in his late 80s. Also the kitchen could do with some more kit - no lemon squeezer, no sieve or collander, no trays to carry food to dining area, no washing up brush, not enough dishwasher tablets, oven took a long time to cook. And 2 of the bathroom doors were difficult to close. We'd definitely come back if these are fixed."

Vauxhall Cottage is a hidden gem - a 3 bedroom detached cottage a short stroll from Chepstow's historic town centre: handy for shops and amenities - with easy access to the countryside.
Dating from 1790s, the updated and comfortable home has a large farmhouse kitchen, big lounge, garden room, patio, private garden and parking - making a fantastic base for 2 to 6 guests. The location perfectly combines the conveniences of Chepstow town with the Wye Valley, forest walks, castles and other attractions.
The heart of Vauxhall Cottage is the wonderfully large kitchen - a great place to gather with family and friends. Featuring a big pine dining table and chairs, an island with stools, and plenty of seating, the kitchen is a light and airy social space. The kitchen is well equipped for preparing meals, with a double oven, pots and pans, and a generous fridge with freezer compartment, and a double Belfast sink.
Guests can also enjoy the spacious and comfortable living room, with two sofas and additional chairs, wood burning stove, and TV. The large "understairs" cupboard in the lounge is packed full of games. Alternatively, the bright and sunny garden room overlooking the patio is a great place to curl up with a cuppa and a book - or to complete one of the jigsaws!
If someone needs to work or catch-up on email, whilst away - there is a private study room with a desk - this room has a tiled floor and is right by the back door, so could alternatively be used for keeping hike boots, pets, bicycles, etc. The bookshelf in the study might offer some new reading material too. Also downstair is a utility room, with a sink and washing machine, and a handy downstairs loo and coat cupboard.
Upstairs, the large master bedroom has an ensuite shower room and a king-sized bed, with views across Chepstow and the Wye Valley. The second bedroom is along the landing, and can be configured as a double room (with super-king bed) or as a twin-bed room with two single beds, whilst the cosy third bedroom has a double bed. All bedrooms have drawers and wardrobes or hanging space. There is a family bathroom upstairs, with a shower and big roll-top bath.
Outside there is a good sized private cottage garden, which has an area of lawn, and is fenced and secure for dogs. The patio area is a real sun trap, with a table and chairs and a charcoal BBQ. In the spring and summer, guests may be lucky enough to enjoy a stunning aerial display from visiting swifts, especially on the kitchen side of the house.
Vauxhall Cottage is accessed through the garden from a covered off-road parking area, with parking for 2 cars (or 3 if one parks sideways across the front).
As an older cottage, it's a cozy place for two, yet updates in recent years offer plenty of flexible space for larger groups of family or friends, or colleagues coming for a work trip.
If Vauxhall Cottage sounds ideal for you and your family and friends, please use "instant book" to secure your dates and start planning your trip. If you would like any extra information, or to ask about other date combinations, please don't hesitate to ask us - we would be delighted to help!
We moved from Vauxhall Cottage in December 2022 after our children grew up, and have since decorated and refreshed the cottage ready to welcome guests. Originally the cottage as it stands now was divided into two or three homes for quarry workers. In our time, we added a large kitchen and ensuite bedroom, and the garden room, and joined two smaller rooms into a large living room. As Vauxhall Cottage has recently been a family home, it offers up-to-date facilities you expect, whilst retaining bags of character. The cottage is professionally cleaned and prepared ready for your visit. We live 10 minutes away now, so you'll have the place all to yourselves - but we're on hand if needed!
Chepstow is a pretty and friendly town, with plenty of amenities. The town has a castle, which dates from 1067, and a lovely riverbank area - you might be luck and spot Sammy the Seal! The M&S Foodhall is a few minutes walk from the cottage, and Tesco is a five minute drive. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, pubs and takeaways in the town too - all an easy stroll away after a day of adventure!
House Rules:
- Check-in time is 4pm and check-out is 10am.
- Smoking is not allowed.
- There are free parking on premises parking facilities available at the property.
- "This cottage had everything we were looking for during our stay in Chepstow. Plenty of room for all of us, quiet, beautiful garden, and close to downtown. We enjoyed our time and would stay again!" - "Lovely cottage, good location, steep climb from town to cottage. Owners acted well to correct couple of problems. Manager I found was on end of messaging which led to misunderstandings, my fault probably as I do not like mobile phones!"
