Our home is situated in the beautiful village of Invergarry in the Scottish Highlands. Invergarry is on the A87, the road that leads to the Isle of Skye. We offer a self contained private ensuite bedroom with its own entrance to outside, our guests are provided with keys to both doors. Our room can be setup as either a superking bed or as two singles. Tigh Mairi is an ideal hideaway for couples or friends and makes a great base either for touring in the area or for direct access to the Glengarry and Glen Kingie mountains.
Set on a hillside above Loch Inchlaggan, the property is peaceful and idyllic with stunning views and surrounded by wildlife. A network of paths and forest tracks give superb opportunities for walking and biking.
The property is powered by our own hydro plant and is 4.5km from the public road so is truly off-grid.

The space
Tigh Mairi has been renovated in the style of an alpine chalet based on the original walls of an ancient black-house dating from before 1745. The property is fully equipped with a modern kitchen and bathroom, whilst also retaining rustic charm with exposed stone walls, timber beams and a stone-flag floor.
The space is bright with large windows and has excellent acoustics so will suit both painters and musicians.

You will have full access to Tigh Mairi as your home during your stay. The property is accessed via 4.5km of forest track from Tornacarry and is very remote. Guests will have free access to the croft of Garry Gualach which has loch and river frontage and a spectacular stream running through it.
Garry Gualach is a working croft and there are likely to be farm animals around including highland cattle. Hence care should be taken in some of the fields!
Guests are welcome to fish in the loch and to rent our canadian canoe or rowing boat.

Other things to note
Please note the access details and restrictions. The access track is only suitable for SUV (or larger) cars with 4wd and good ground clearance. It may be difficult for all vehicles during cold weather in the winter. We will help with transport by prior arrangement.

There are plenty of walks straight from the apartment and further afield with the Great Glen Way, a 79 mile long distance walking and cycling route, passing through Invergarry. It is possible to walk or cycle from Fort William to Inverness avoiding the main road.

Not far from Invergarry is Active Highs where white water rafting, kayaking and canoeing are available.

The village has three hotels that serve lunch and evening meals. The Invergarry Hotel, a 4 star country inn, provides an open log fire and a welcoming bar and restaurant, while the newly opened Rokeby Manor, situated on the outskirts of the village, offers authentic Indian cuisine and a warm welcome. Glengarry Castle Hotel, a 3 star country house, sits on the shores of Loch Oich with the ruins of Invergarry Castle, seat of the MacDonnell clan, situated in its grounds.

There is a Smart TV enabled with Netflix, Amazon Prime and BBC Iplayer for use with your own log-ins however no terrestrial TV. We also have a large collection of DVDs and DVD player.
There is also a washing machine in the cabin and a dryer located in the shed drying room, which is near the cabin.

The cabin's location is equally suited for guests wishing to tour the area and for those who are looking to truly get away from it all.

Close to the cabin there is a good network of forest tracks and paths, plus several munros, for walking, hiking or biking right here in the glen. Bring your canoes and you can navigate the rapids of the river Garry which is close by. There are also great walks by the river through enchanted and ancient forests that lead to magical waterfalls. More watersports and boat hire are available at Laggan, which is about 20 a minute drive on Loch Oich/Loch Lochy.

Nearby to The Great Glen, Wildwood is an ideal location if you wish to explore the Highland highlights of; the Isle of Skye, Eilean Donan Castle, Loch Ness, Ben Nevis and Glencoe, all of which can be visited during a week-long trip.

Other things to note
The cabin is located near to a lovely burn (stream) - the level and speed of flow of which varies with the weather. It is a magical place for young children to explore but for their safety they must be supervised when near the stream.

Grocery deliveries can be ordered for home delivery from Morrisons and Asda. Use the address Larchwood, Inchlaggan, Invergarry and add an instruction to deliver to the holiday cabin. Note, time slots for deliveries can be difficult to get, so we recommend making orders a few weeks before you arrive. To stock up en-route coming from the south Fort William has an M&S Foodhall, Aldi, Lidl, and Morrisons. From the north there are numerous supermarkets in Inverness and a well-stocked Londis at the petrol station in Fort Augustus.

You can roam around all the surrounding woodlands and explore the loch using the canoes, paddle boards or rowing boat during your stay.

There may also be guests in the Shepherds Hut and Bunk house at the same time, but they are all self-contained units and wont need to disturb you.
These guests also have access to the canoes and rowing boat, so if you see other guests, just say hello and arrange suitable times for all to use the boats.

Other things to note
We harvest rain water off the roof and supplement this with well water to supply the cabin for all its needs.
The water is as pure as it gets and perfectly good for drinking too.
It will have passed through several filters before it gets to the taps.
If we have an extended dry spell, there is a chance we may not refresh the water in the hot tub so that we can preserve the water for the domestic needs of the cabins. As soon as we have enough water we can refill the hot tub. There will be no refunds to compensate lack of hot tub use as this is totally out of our control.
We have no mains supply here at all, we are totally reliant on the rain and well, thankfully we normally have quite a lot of rain here!
There are 9 bags of logs on the back porch for you use, they will be charged at £8 per bag or part used bag after your stay should you use them.
Rubbish/Trash: The bin men are quite picky with what they will accept in the blue bin, if you’re not sure the label on the lid will advise you. Glass is not accepted so put your empties in the crate behind the log bench.
Winter nights: If the temperature drops and there is a risk of frost or ice forming, then please take great care on the decking as it will become extremely slippery. There are salt buckets at the doors for you to use to clear it and prevent nasty falls. There is also a snow shovel on the side of the bunkhouse and Shepherds Hut should you need one but please do not allow other non-local motorists to borrow it. (They have been known to ask when they cannot get up the hill to the main road)
Rowing Boat: The rowing boat, paddle boards and canoes are down by the loch, oars and paddles in the roof of the canoe shack. Take a look at the map in the Guest Information regarding use of canoes and boats to see the restricted areas of the Loch. After use, please stow them as found, row boat, canoe etc all secured again. The life jackets are put back in a trunk when you have finished “messing about” on the water and secure the lid to make sure the wee fury guys can’t get in to set up home!

Please also note that the cleaning charge only covers the general cleaning of the cabin, change of bedding and linen and the laundry. It does not cover the cost to unblock the dishwasher, cleaning greasy or dirty oven, pots, pans and baking trays or an excessively dirty and untidy cabin.
The cabin should be found clean and tidy after you have left - as you found it. We reserve the right to charge for extra cleaning fees should we find this not to be the case.

Dogs are welcome and chargeable @ £40 per dog per stay.
