Only about an hour's drive from Glasgow, the town is a gateway to the Highlands & Islands and provides a great base for day touring.

The property is located in the centre of Inveraray only steps from the water, it is just a moments’ walk from the Jail, as well as all the local amenities including bars, restaurants, and shops, not forgetting Inveraray Castle.

The community here is quite tight-knit, and one of the perks is being able to socialise with locals. Though is quiet most of the year, during the summer it becomes a busy tourist town with visitors from all over the UK and other countries.

Car parks are often available just outside the property, or within close proximity at the nearby carpark, there is also free parking at the Co-op.

This is a self check-in property and you will be requested to verify your identity before being able to check into the flat. You can check-in anytime of the day as long as you respect our standard check-in time.

Also, we charge £50 for each set of lost keys (security keys may cost more). For security purposes, there may be an additional cost to replace the locks. So, please keep your keys safe :)

There is a zero-tolerance policy for smoking in the property. If our team discovers any evidence that this rule has been breached (e.g smoke smell, ashes, butts, etc.) we fully reserve the right to charge a £300 GBP smoking fee, at minimum.

We do not allow parties, large gatherings, loud noises, or outside guests. Should we receive sufficient evidence of such activity we reserve the right to cancel your stay (without refund) and may involve a security team to evict you. Any associated cost will be charged to you via your security deposit. Local authorities may also be present (if required).

It was so easy to walk to cafes, pubs and restaurants as well as tourist shops and attractions. Only problem was the parking. There is a 30 min limit outside the flat during the day but we never got a space there, day or night. We did occasionally park near the Historic Jail (an attraction, not a current prison) but usually had the choice of paying or a walk. Everything else was fine and Inverary was a lovely place, both to visit and as a base for elsewhere."

The space
The room is in a self-contained flat on the 1st floor and is comfortable for 3 people (2 beds) and if you are a group or family travelling together you could rent out another double room on the same floor or other rooms on the Ground floor (see my other listings for Arkland). There are two rooms available in each flat. The flats are very well maintained, bright and with many facilities and if you only rent a room you have access to the lounge and well-equipped kitchen where you can prepare meals. Arkland is in a historic building in the small conservation town of Inveraray. The house is in the centre of the town but in a quiet lane and with easy access to the town (2 mins walk). If arriving by bus it is a short 5 minute walk from the bus terminal. From Glasgow International airport - we are 1.5 hours (about 56 miles). A lovely drive and you are in the heart of the west highlands!! What a wonderful way to start your Scottish holiday - wake up to hills, lochs, rivers and a true Scottish castle on your doorstep!

We are located near Inveraray, the home town of the Duke of Argyll. The Duke's family home is the stunning Inveraray castle. The castle and its grounds are open to the public most of the year. There is also the Inveraray jail in the town which is full of local history. Auchindrain is an outside museum of how Scottish people lived years ago and is at the end of our road with a view of the waterfall on the walk down. Maps of other local walks can be found in the information folder at the lodge. If you wish to drive to experience more views, close by is the Argyll Coastal Route. The lodge has its own private driveway with space for 2 cars.

The Apartment

Once Jail Cells dating back to the 19th Century they have served their time and now form a beautiful and unique 1 bedroom self catering apartment at heart of the historic town of Inveraray. An original part of Inveraray Jail which is now a popular tourist attraction adjoining the property which offers our guests a discount on entry.

From the ground floor entrance the original stone staircase leads to the first floor living area. The apartment consists of an inviting Double Bedroom which is stylishly decorated. The properties bathroom is located directly off the bedroom and is a bright contemporary space with a rainfall shower, basin and toilet. The living area is welcoming and has a flatscreen TV, 3 seater sofa bed which sleeps 2 and a dining table which can seat 4. You’ll get a glimpse of the beautiful view of Loch Fyne from the shoreline which lies just a few feet around the corner. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a small breakfast bar.

Location

The property is ideally situated, tucked in a quiet corner in the heart of the town, a stones throw from Inveraray’s main street with its shops, pubs and bistros, and the stunning Loch Fyne shoreline just around the corner. A short walk to Inveraray Castle and a perfect base to explore Inveraray and the stunning west coast.

History

The apartment is a listed building which formed part of Inveraray Jail and the Old Police Station. It housed Debtors until their debts were settled and you’ll find nods everywhere to its past including the original bars on the entrance window. It then became living quarters for jail employees. Neil Munro renowned novelist and poet of Parahandy fame lived in the apartment as a boy with his mother who married the Governor of Inveraray Jail.

Other things to note
The properly is located on the first floor up a set of stairs and therefore unfortunately may not be suitable for people with limited mobility. The living area is all on one level.

With a young family ourselves we are delighted to welcome children to stay in the apartment. Please however note that there is no bath. We are happy to provide a baby bath and travel cot. We recommend if you are staying with children under 5 you message us in advance of booking so we can help in planning your stay and provide equipment that may be helpful to you.

Should we receive sufficient evidence of such activity we reserve the right to cancel your stay (without refund) and may involve a security team to evict you. This beautiful little semi-detached cottage sits on the bank of Loch Fyne. Both Inveraray and Lochgilphead are only a short drive away and there are many beautiful walks, rich with wildlife, to explore nearby. This is a wonderful spot from which to explore Argyll and Bute. Further afield, but accessible as a day trip, are places such as Oban, Campbeltown, Ben More.
In winter, a coal fire (for those with the knack of lighting one!) brings warmth, with electric fires providing an easier option!

With its breathtaking views across Loch Fyne to the Arrochar Alps, Newton Cottage North is a charming two bedroom terrace cottage, a short walking distance of Inveraray.

The space
The seafront cottage has a new kitchen and new flooring in the cosy downstairs living room, with its small dining area and French doors leading to the spacious back garden. The centrepiece of the living room is its cheerful log fire set in a delightful antique fireplace.

The front window looks straight out onto the loch, with sweeping views of the hills to the north, east and south.

Upstairs there are two inviting double bedrooms and a family bathroom. The rear bedroom has views over the garden, while the front bedroom has majestic views over Loch Fyne to the hills on the other side of the sea loch.

When you wake in the morning you can enjoy the impressive views and bird life without getting out of your cosy bed. Both bedrooms are well appointed, ideal for a romantic retreat. The family bathroom features a full size bath with electric shower and screen, basin and toilet.

The garden is sheltered on three sides by high walls, including a historic stone-built barn. - Cooking oil and laundry detergent are not provided at the property. We recommend bringing these items with you if needed, or you may purchase them at nearby stores.

- The property is self-catering, so we kindly recommend bringing along any additional supplies you might need during your stay.

- Please do not put the hot tub cover anywhere near the heat source pump.

- The hot tub can be enjoyed not later than 9:30 PM. Also, don’t forget to bring extra towels for the hot tub! **Important Note:** To prioritize safety and minimize the possibility of water-related accidents, we require ***children under 11 years of age*** to be supervised by an adult and the use of the hot tub would entail personal risk.

- Once your booking is confirmed, we’ll be in touch to request your email address. This is so we can send over our property policies, which you'll be asked to read and sign to confirm your understanding before arrival.
