We start right away by the way we are warmly welcomed by the sympathetic owners. This accommodation is very well situated in the heart of Avis and has two tastefully decorated spaces full of detail and sublety, having a balcony with a fantastic view ideal to enjoy a drink watching the sunset at the end of a summer afternoon or enjoying one of the several fireplaces scattered around the houses on a rainy or cold winter day. The room I stayed in was very spacious, again beautifully decorated, the bed was extremely comfortable and in the bathroom with towels and amenities of very good quality. Breakfast with lots of quality and variety and they had homemade jams and muesli, as well as the fresh squeezed orange juice and homemade lemonade and the scrambled eggs and the pancakes made at the moment. I joined to the other guests at the end of the afternoon for a glass of wine and a board of cheeses and charcuterie accompanied by shared talks on the warmth of the fireplace. Later on at dinner we were presented with a delicious and traditional homemade meal in the old stables that was transformed into a beautiful dining room. A big thank you to João, Maria João, Francisca, to all the attentive staff and even Menta (dog) for welcoming me, for the good moments and making me feel at home, I will certainly come back for a visit. The space
Monte de Bordalos, located in the vicinity of the Maranhão dam, in the municipality of Avis, is located within a quiet 724-hectare estate composed of forest, predominantly assembled by sheep, and irrigated, namely corn or other annual crops and vineyards.

The 300-year-old hill, fully refurbished in 2023, offers accommodations that include 6 large suites with independent entrances and private bathrooms, plus a T1 and two T2. The fully equipped kitchen is at guests' disposal, who can still enjoy a spacious and comfortable living room, with an amazing view of the Maranhão and Avis dam, a dining room and a game room with ping-pong table and footing table.

Monte de Bordalos also offers an outdoor pool and a close and easy access to the Maranhão dam, which allows you to enjoy nautical activities. There are bicycles and kayaks at guests' disposal, allowing you to explore the beauty of the Herdade and the dam. It is also possible to fish.

Monte is part of a rich region in Prehistoric, Roman and Medieval monuments. The village of Avis stands out, the former headquarters of the monastic-military order of S. Bento de Avis, founded in the 19th century XII by the first King of Portugal, or the famous Coudelaria Nacional de Alter do Chão, which is about 30 km away.

MonteZinho is located on one of the banks of the Maranhão Dam reservoir, with direct and private access to the waterfront. It is a rare and privileged place in its location, where the sounds and colors of the typical Alentejo landscape abruptly erupt through the water mirror of the reservoir.
The 3 hectares of the property are filled with hundreds of olive trees and other fruit trees that will, for sure, give an even more special flavor to your stay.

The space
The house was completely renovated in 2023, with the renovation focusing mainly on the reorganization and comfort of the interior space. Outside, an effort was made to maintain the original layout, which is characteristic of the region. The old irrigation tank, located next to the house, has been converted into a bright swimming pool where you can cool off on the hot days of Alentejo. To the west, a large terrace was added with a pergola that invites laziness, long meals and conversations with family or friends.
A short 5-minute walk through the olive grove separates the house from the reservoir, where you can swim in the calm and silent waters of Maranhão. The most daring and adventurous have at their disposal (at no extra cost) bicycles, a canoe and a SUP board, while the quieter ones can simply enjoy the idyllic landscape or practice yoga in the wooden structure that is two steps from the waterline.
