The location was remote and peaceful. Our suite was the most luxurious of the trip with its beautiful views across the creek canyon to the forest Hills and onto the coast at Sesimbra. They provide one complementary glass of wine and with that we ordered an afternoon snack, expressing our interest in salad. We got a large fresh, delicious, healthy salad to split between us. So good! They have a set meal in town, which was not something we wanted that night, so we ate in town. We both wish that the offering was something to our liking, but we fully understand with the limited staff. Those guests who did stay for the meal seemed to have an excellent meal. The complementary breakfast in the morning was also delicious. This is one of the few visits where we wished we were able to stay a second night, and if it were a little warmer, we would have jumped in the pool, which looks out over the vineyards. It is a stunning property run by an efficient competent staff."

- "Herdade Do Touril is one of the nicest places we have stayed in our many travels around the world. The facilities are quite nice and well maintained. The property is like none other, surrounded by thousands of acres of farmland. It’s quiet, relaxing and one gets a sense of bring “away from it all” and yet there are miles of walking and biking trails along the ocean as well as through the farming areas. There is a wonderful breakfast buffet from 0830-1200 hours. The ever present hotel manager, Luis and his able assistant, Tatiana were wonderful to us during our check in and throughout our stay. Our waiter, Diogo, at dinner each night was fantastic. And of course the place would not function without the resident donkey named Violeta who, along with her sheep and goat friends, provided endless entertainment. This accommodation is very well situated in the heart of Avis and has two tastefully decorated spaces full of detail and sublety, having a balcony with a fantastic view ideal to enjoy a drink watching the sunset at the end of a summer afternoon or enjoying one of the several fireplaces scattered around the houses on a rainy or cold winter day. The room I stayed in was very spacious, again beautifully decorated, the bed was extremely comfortable and in the bathroom with towels and amenities of very good quality. Breakfast with lots of quality and variety and they had homemade jams and muesli, as well as the fresh squeezed orange juice and homemade lemonade and the scrambled eggs and the pancakes made at the moment. I joined to the other guests at the end of the afternoon for a glass of wine and a board of cheeses and charcuterie accompanied by shared talks on the warmth of the fireplace. Later on at dinner we were presented with a delicious and traditional homemade meal in the old stables that was transformed into a beautiful dining room.
