The cottage is very close to the historic cotton mill / museum and river gardens within the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage site. Belper's award winning high street is a 15 minute walk away and just down the road is the Talbot (17c) restaurant / bar and the Tum Yum Thai Restaurant (basement of the early 19c North Mill) just over the bridge and mill weir. Walks from the river lead up to the Chevin overlooking Belper in one direction and the river gardens and nature reserve in the other.

If you want a full-on retail experience then Derby City is only 7 miles away and has a huge shopping complex (INTU Derby) as well as several very busy streets. Belper has several good eateries and a great Bangladeshi restaurant which also does home delivery if you don't want to venture out. Belper is ideally located for exploring Derbyshire and is a very quaint and picturesque small town, with very friendly and welcoming people. The cottage was well equipped and we didn't need anything. There was fresh milk in the fridge when we arrived, along with tea, coffee, sugar and washing and cleaning products. All we had to do was buy any food to make meals, although we never bothered because we ate out in Belper every evening, thanks to the great variety of places to choose from. All in all a wonderful break and we won't hesitate to go back again."

As seniors, we were initially concerned about stairs, but that proved to be no issue at all. Easy and effortless...and carpeted. Both beds are king size and very comfortable with more than enough pillows to choose from. Large kitchen with anything/everything you might need for a short or long-term stay. We didn't have a car so the location was perfect (note: there is a reserved spot right at the front door for your car). Be sure to visit the town's new library and library cafe - best bargain in Belper! Derby is an 8-minute train ride from Belper, 15-minutes by Uber. The alarm in the house went off unexpectedly one evening - throughout the whole house, but it sorted itself out - without our intervention - thankfully :-)"

- "We loved the cottage and the setting. My husband became ill on day two. We left the cottage two days early so he could go home to see a doctor. On stripping the beds we saw the unhealthy state of the pillows and duvets. They were dirty, stained, ripped and matted. We understand they have all been replaced but that does not make things better for us. We have been offered a very small goodwill gesture from the owner which goes no way to making up for our holiday being cut short and my husbands illness. It was such a shame as we loved the cottage. The bathroom was downstairs which we hadn't realised and the bathroom was not particularly clean. It was also the first time we had stayed in a cottage where we had not been left as much as a pint of milk."

- "The quality of the property, particularly the downstairs bedrooms and bathrooms, is a bit shabby - feels more like a 'Home of Multiple Occupancy' than a holiday cottage. The big living space is great, though, ideal for the ten adults and 2 children in our group. The kitchen needs some TLC - the equipment is old and some of it not very good (the can opener doesn't work, the cafetiere leaks coffee grounds into your mug, one of the kettles is a bit ropey) but the mezzanine style works well in terms of keeping everyone in touch with whatever is going on. The 'music system' fails to live up to the name.... Some deep cleaning wouldn't go amiss (downstairs bedrooms) and the heating in one of the downstairs bathrooms was not working. If you want a big Airbnb-style place to stay this is ideal, if you are thinking of a quaint holiday home this isn't quite it."
