- "Room is big. Hotel hallways were filthy. Room was not. Not a great part of town but once in hotel we felt safe and slept well for a one night stay. Beds are hard. I was traveling by myself for one night and had little with me. I checked in, there seemed to be some complications with another customer, so I was interrupted several times, even though I had booked my room on-line well in advance. I got to the room and the key didn't work. they hadn't activated it. So I walked back down to the lobby and the activated it. I finally get into the room, which was nice, but the TV didn't work. So I had to go back down to the lobby with all of my things. They put me in a new room, which was also nice (and the TV worked), but I wasn't able to "settle in" until about 4:15pm. There is no elevator, so even though I didn't have much with me, it was still a hassle to carry things up and down there stairs several times. I would have called the front desk, but there was no phone in the room and I hadn't charged my phone yet. "

It has large, open spaces in bedroom, living room, and kitchen. The bathroom was nice and larger than many. There was a bench and a cart that sits next to the sink, to hold toiletries and curling irons, etc. This is not in the photos, and we found it very helpful. The bed was comfortable and the curtains allowed us to have it good and dark. We appreciated a private parking lot just for guests. There were several washer/dryer units available for use. The doors all had touch pads for unlocking and it was good to be key-free. Gayla was responsive and helpful, a great host! We would recommend this stay."

The well-appointed kitchen features stainless steel appliances and a large granite island with 8 barstools. The great room with bamboo flooring has a large flat screen TV with high speed internet, a wood-burning fireplace. Two carpeted master bedrooms (one king, one queen) on either side of the great room/kitchen have dramatic double tray ceilings with concealed lighting and retractable blooming flower ceiling fans. The king bedroom’s bath features a tiled walk-in shower along with an ADA height Kohler toilet and double sinks, while the queen bedroom’s bath has double sinks and a jacuzzi tub/shower. A half bath off the great room is convenient for guests. All rooms open to the 1,500 sq. ft. deck overlooking the water, where you can kayak, or cast for bluegills and bass. There are 5 bedrooms and 2.5 baths; two of the bedrooms have lofts for additional sleeping areas. The kitchen is modern and fully furnished. The setting is very tranquil and private, nestled in a 10 acre compound with a bamboo grove and majestic oak and hickory trees providing shade and privacy. Lots of wildlife around including deer, foxes, rabbits, squirrels, and herons. The location is close to everything (grocery stores, restaurants, shopping, hospital, movies, etc) but it feels like you are in another world. Try to catch a bass or bluegill in the two acre pond, hike thru the bamboo trail or use the kayak or canoe over by the gazebo. The setting has to be seen to be believed. Up to two well behaved dogs are welcome.

The McCauley House was built in 1920 as a single family home. From what we can tell the McCauley Family owned it for nearly 100 years and at some point in time they did a conversion to a 4-plex apartment building. We bought the building in 2022 and have worked hard to restore every room. In this apartment you will find an original fireplace and all of the modern amenities that you would expect to include a King Bed, Fully Stocked Kitchen and Tile Shower. The apartment features High Speed Internet with an access point for ethernet and Smart TV's in both the living room and the bedroom.

The main house has Smart Locks where all tenants will enjoy common space, laundry room and a great front porch seating area - this porch is the best spot in the house for watching storms! All apartments are rented as full units with two entrances/exits for safety and convenience.

We are not far from the property and we will be able to help if you were to need anything but we will not be stopping by or checking in unless you specifically needed something.
