- "The room was clean and comfortable. The check in staff was absolutely top notch! I think the girl said her name was Kelli and she was so helpful and sweet! We were there for a funeral and she was such a bright spot in our long day of traveling! " - "The staff was excellent in fixing issues we had when we first arrived. 1) The blind did not work. We needed light. 2)The WiFi did not work in the room. 3) A piece of tile was loose from the wall. 4) There was no frig in the room (or microwave). 5) My husband needed light to work at the desk. A lamp was brought in to remedy the situation. Since the WiFi did not work in the room, they moved us down the hall to a different room. We were tired, so we went to bed. The next night I told my husband that it felt like my side of the bed was broken. If I got too close to the edge of the bed, I could fall off. My husband felt around and felt nothing under my side of the bed. We went to the desk the next morning and they sent up a couple of maintenance men to check it out. They picked up the bed to find out that whoever set up the bed put the box spring upside down, thus, there was no support for my side of the bed. There were no phones in either room to call down to the desk (or anywhere)."

My major complaints about my stay were that I didn't like that the TV in my room repeatedly turned on by itself almost every time I turned it off, the refrigerator seemed pretty cheap as it only kept my drinks somewhat cold, and for some reason when I first entered my room someone had left the window in the bathroom open which caused me to have to spend time chasing at least a dozen flies around the small bathroom and no matter how many I killed more still appeared even after the window was closed. Aside from this it was an adequate enough experience."

- "We had a wonderful weekend stay. The house was clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. We especially appreciated the convenient coffee bar, perfect for early morning starts. The location was ideal, close to town and the wedding venue, providing easy access to everything we needed. The TV room was the perfect spot to relax and watch football in the evenings. We also loved the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of the neighborhood. While the house offered plenty of bedrooms for larger groups, we never located the washer and dryer. Overall, we highly recommend the house for a relaxing and enjoyable stay."

If the noise level is an issue, a warning will be sent to the guest through the VRBO app, notifying the guest of the issue, and 15 minutes will be given to correct the issue. If the noise level continues and another warning is submitted, a $100.00 excessive noise level fee may be applied for each night the violation occurs.

Hosts occupy the property's primary home 24/7, and we always make ourselves available to help you with questions or needs. This guest house is separate from the main house by a side gate access and a locked door with a Smart WiFi deadbolt.

It is in a very quiet neighborhood. the interior was very nice and comfortable. ample room for 5. bedroom is large with 3 beds. kitchen and living room we just like being at home. the deck outside the back is a great spot for morning coffee. it is two story so the stairs were fine for us but if you have problems with stairs it might be a weekend sleeping on the great couch. So many stairs to get to and from the pool. Each thing to do was at least one or two or three steps up/down from another... the hot tub, the hammock, the bar area, the pool. Be prepared for stairs if this is an issue for you. There is a musty odor to the house upon entry, but like other reviewers have said, you get used to it fairly quickly. The house just needs to air out, but with the heat and humidity during our stay, that was not possible. The freezer had food in it, and smelled like fish. Not sure what was up with that. All that said, it is a beautiful home, with extremely comfortable beds. The furniture layout worked fine for the 3 of us, but could be difficult to lounge in the same area if there are more of you. We hung out primarily in the 3 season porch that just has a chair and loveseat. Note, while you can technically see the pool from the porch, you can not sit and view the swimmers. If you have good swimmers, but still wish to keep an eye on them, expect to be outside with them. Lots of fast food options and door dash does deliver, but not much in the way of decent sit down restaurants. Overall we had a lovely time and would recommend to others."

Welcome to The Blue Door on Mulberry! This private guesthouse is on a centrally-located lot at the front of Martinsville’s Mulberry neighborhood. Maintain your sense of privacy while still being close to everything Martinsville has to offer. The property is less than 5 mins from the Martinsville Uptown District, under 10 mins to the Martinsville Speedway, under 4 mins to the SOVA Hospital, and walking distance to the Virginia Museum of Natural History, Piedmont Arts, and more! This space was lovingly renovated and its highlights include: a kitchen for cooking meals, a dining area for two, a 50” Smart TV with steaming, a dedicated workspace w/ coffee, and a stunning black-and-white bathroom. The guesthouse is tucked away at the back of a large lot behind a main house so it offers plenty of privacy. You’ll have a dedicated parking spot with your own separate entrance to come and go as you please. The lot does back up to the woods and if you’re lucky you might just see a family of deer in the early mornings! Please Note: The guest house is located on the second floor of a detached garage, so taking a small set of stairs is required to access the unit. Please keep this in mind if you have any mobility concerns related to stairways. You will access the guest house by driving through a long shared driveway that is in between two houses. We are the red brick house to the left of the driveway. You won’t see us unless you need us. We are generally very hands-off hosts, but we can be available if you need assistance with something related to your stay.

The space
On the ground floor of the cabin you will first enter the rustic living room with one of the two original stone fireplaces. Right next door is the primary bedroom, with a second fireplace and a queen-sized bed for two. On the back side of the living room you'll find the kitchen with a dining area and access to the second porch. On the other side of the kitchen is the bathroom.

The upper floor can be accessed via a (pretty steep) staircase from the living room. Upstairs you will find a large open room with seating and a king bed and next to it the cozy upstairs bedroom with a twin and a queen bed.

Guest access
You will enter the property through a gated gravel driveway that leads to the cabin. The driveway loop at the top offers space to park several vehicles.

Other things to note
The wifi at the cabin is via satellite and is therefore limited in speed and performance. It can be effected by weather and time of day. This would not be a good stay for those expecting to work remotely with streaming/video conferencing. Even for recreational browsing- don't expect to have a stable or fast connection.

In the kitchen, you will find a fully stocked coffee bar equipped with creamer, sugar, tea, honey, etc. Below the coffee bar is a mini fridge and a microwave- hotel style! The drawers in the unit contain silverware, a wine/beer tool, and dishes.
The armoire in the living room holds all extra linens, games, steamer, hair dryer, etc.
fire extinguisher is under the kitchen sink, as well as extra paper products and cleaning supplies.
The living room has a trundle bed that serves as a couch with several throw pillows and a television. We do not have cable, but the television is hooked up to a Roku, where you can log into your Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Sling, etc.
The bedroom has a very comfortable queen sized bed with equally comfortable bedding.
The mudroom in the hallway/next to the back door has been converted into an office space.

Please consider before booking- This cottage shares property with the main house where our family resides. Since the main house is a family house, you may walk out to see us playing a game of archery, working on a project, etc.
If you're expecting a perfect 5 star hotel experience, this may not be a good fit for you. This area is pretty country. Once in a while, on a very quiet day, you can hear cows from the farm down the road mooing, owls hooting at night, etc. There are hunting ranges in a neighboring town, so it is not abnormal to hear a distant couple of shots (we rarely ever hear them, but something to note). The backyard is heavily wooded as well, so you most likely will find an occasional bug or two (even after monthly exterminator) or hear squirrels run across the roof while jumping from tree to tree. All of these things are what make this a unique, fantastic country escape.
We believe in being completely transparent so that our guests have a clear/realistic idea of our lovely cottage. We would much rather have less reservations by being transparent than having more reservations by sugar coating the details that come along with a country house :)

- "We had a great stay in this cottage. It was perfect for 2 people. They had supplies you always forget to pack including shampoo/conditioner! The best part was having good coffee from a keurig!! It was hands down much better than a hotel and waking up in the wooded area and seeing deers in the morning was so great! Communication was quick with owners as well! Thank you!! If we are ever in that area again, I would absolutely stay again. 🙂" - "There is two “heaters “. One in the cramped sitting area and the other one two feet from your head at the bed. Has to run all night long just to attempt to heat area. VERY loud. No sleep. Bathroom and kitchen stays very cold. No heat here. Cold air comes in from under sink in a real bad way. After three nights of this the owner brought in other portable heaters and helped some. Could not heat kitchen. I’m used to cold weather but for the money charged a night so much not worth it!! Woman owner seemed nice but her brother living in house next to this seems very strange. Very spacey. Woman nice enough to give me a partial refund and am pleased with that. Clean and neat though."

- "Overall the stay was pretty good. We were visiting the area for a family reunion, and my family is huge and loud, so it was really nice to have a quiet spot to come home to. I loved the quiet, the house was very quaint and cute, nearest neighbors were close enough to see but too far to hear. Plenty of space for us to stretch out. Hubby loved sitting on the patio watching the wildlife and fireflies, me not so much, lol. That was the only negative for me; the bugs...it was manageable, but if youre considering this property, just know it is RURAL, and after dark, the bugs come out.The property is older, so a little quirky, plug wise, but it has wifi with a great signal, and the ac units kept the place nice and cool.The host was very sweet and accommodating!"
