- "My family and our two dogs, stayed here for the Christmas holiday while visiting extended family. This country home was spacious, beautifully renovated and located in a private wooded setting. It was very clean and well stocked with all the essentials. It snowed before we arrived and the host had the driveway cleared and the walkways and stairs well salted. The Empire State Trail is a short 5 minute walk from the home, making it a perfect getaway for runners, cyclists and walkers. My family and I enjoyed several winter runs and walks. Shopping at ACME and restaurants (we had dinner at the Carriage House) are a short 10 minute drive, as well as Thunder Ridge ski resort. The host was very responsive and checked in with us several times during our stay.I gave the home four stars for location only because the driveway is located on the curve of a windy, main road. It is low traffic, but follow the host’s instructions for entering and exiting the property, use the mirror and listen for cars coming around the bend. Also, the home sits on a hill and both entrances require navigating stairs. Otherwise, the home earned five stars in all other areas! Thank you for the wonderful stay and holiday memories!"

We are one of VRBO's highest-rated/reviewed properties in the Hudson Valley (and I do not ask for reviews).
Quintessential Hudson Valley, just over an hour north of NYC, charming and peaceful renovated-1950s cabin with private lake dock and beach on beautiful Lake Dutchess. This non-motorboat, quiet, peaceful private lake is the perfect setting for the Fall foliage, Winter snowscapes, Spring blooms, and Summer swimming. Take a canoe ride (provided), fish (PLENTY of bass), a summer dip, or sled in the winter.
Immersed in the woods, this cozy log cabin is a perfect mix of rural/rustic charm and updated, modern appeal. Recently gut-renovated, the cabin has an open living room with skylights, huge windows to the lake, and a retro fireplace. Three small bedrooms branch off the living room, two rooms with a queen-size bed each, and one with a bunk bed (kids only). One updated, white bathroom with shower. The kitchen comes fully equipped with new appliances and opens up to the dining room, which has a wall of windows to the lake. From there, you can exit onto the top deck of the house for the grill or relax on the patio furniture, or the porch swing on the lower deck. The house is built on a huge rock which is also great to lay on during the summers, or head down to the lake dock (just a few footsteps away), and hang out there, take a swim, or grab the canoe or paddle board.
Additional amenities provided include AC/Heating system, Wireless WiFi, fishing poles, canoe, kayak, paddleboard (summer) , firelogs (winter), high thread-count sheets, cotton towels, Beekman 1802 Toiletries, outdoor gas grill, washer/dryer, Apple TV with streaming accounts, and most kitchen needs.
The location of the house is perfect. Though quietly nestled in the woods surrounded by nature, it is a mile or two from Interstate-84 which takes you straight to Beacon, Cold Spring, or Kent, CT in 20 minutes. Metro North's Southeast station on the Harlem Line is 10 minutes away so a commute to NYC is very convenient for guests who need to come and go.
The area attractions include great hiking at Wonder Lake, Nuclear Lake (part of the iconic Appalachian Trail), Beacon Reservoir, and Breakneck Ridge (named by Newsweek as one of the 10 Best Hiking Trails in the Country). And great biking on the state-wide Empire Trail, minutes from the cabin!
We are centrally located to some quintessential Hudson Valley towns. Beacon, right on the Hudson River with amazing shops and restaurants, is home to the world-renowned DIA Art Museum. Other nearby Hudson Valley towns worthy of a visit include Cold Spring, Pawling, and Kent (CT).
There is also Splashdown Beach, a water park 15 minutes away. During the winter, besides the frozen lake and beautiful snow-covered surroundings, there is Thunder Ridge Ski Resort 10 minutes away. The Autumn is amazing with the colorful fall foliage every which way and festivals abound. Go apple-picking at the beautiful Fishkill Farms, only ten minutes away. And of course Spring starts us into summer with the snow melting and the leaves and flowers blooming!
Please note, we do not rent to anyone under the age of 25, and have a 4 adult maximum (6 person max, if at least two children are included), as the bunk beds are for children only. This is a peaceful lake community. If you and your guests tend to be on the loud, partying side, this is NOT the house/lake for you.
IMPORTANT!!! During the Winter and early Spring months, four-wheel/all-wheel drive is highly recommended to access the cabin. If there is ice/snow, though it is plowed, you can still get stuck on the final road to the cabin.
- "Loved our stay at this cozy lake cabin! It had everything we needed to fish and have fun on the lake and cook our meals. Very clean and comfortable would definitely stay again." - "We had a very enjoyable time at the cabin . Would definitely recommend" - "This cabin is amazing! We really enjoyed how quiet it was and how it was just steps from the lake, where we enjoyed fishing (10 bass caught!), swimming, and canoeing. Tons of great local hiking and restaurants and Jason was the perfect host. Highly recommend. We’ll certainly be back!"

- "It was a ver y nice house. The cabinets were broken in the kitchen. Clothes in one of the bedrooms wrtr coming off the hinged " - "We stayed here for a long weekend because it was close to a wedding we were attending. Really nice, unique location! Remote and feels woodsy, but also very close and accessible to stores/restaurants. My family and I had a great time enjoying the game room in the home, the quick walk to a nice playground for the kids to get some energy out, and appreciated access to the sporting equipment found in the basement area. We also really appreciated that the home was well-stocked with linens, towels, chairs etc. along with other thoughtful items of convenience (which we have sometimes found lacking when renting other houses). The whole house was clean and looked as it does in the pictures. Would love to come back for a summer stay to utilize the lake area, but it was still very pretty to look at out the window! The host was responsive and helpful. Highly recommend this property!"

The Chapel at Hopeland is a unique experience that we had crafted next to a sprawling forest preserve. Built in 1845 for the community's religious needs, the church has now gone through a complete historic restoration for weddings or a romantic stay in the chapel's anteroom. We are a stone’s throw from the Appalachian Trail right on the Dutchess/Putnam line and are less than an hour from Manhattan.
We are minutes from Fahnestock and Hudson Highlands State Parks & the Empire State Trail!
You are next to the Hopeland Forest Preserve which now is over 100 acres and growing. One side borders the Appalachian trail and on the other side of the Appalachian trail is another 200 +- acres of woodland. All the neighbors are nice but you are truly in the country!
- "What a unique and sweet space! My partner and I were looking for someplace quaint and off the beaten path- we are not “hotel people” and this little chapel did not disappoint! Everything was meticulously clean, check in was easy and the hosts were great commutators. If you need tons of amenities, turn down service, long hot showers, and a flat screen tv, this is NOT your place. But if you want cozy and unique, the pictures are exactly what you’ll find in this tucked away historical gem!"

- "I loved staying at John’s place. It is exactly as advertised and better! I felt safe and relaxed there. There’s plenty of wildlife outside the window and very close to major roads for an easy commute. I will definitely stay here again." - "We stayed at John's guest house in early October, just as the leaves were changing. It was gorgeous. John provided five-star service akin to what you'd expect at a nice hotel. The space was clean and well-appointed, and the kitchen had everything we needed for plenty of cooking. There are lots of nice hikes/walks nearby--as well as several good restaurants within 30 minutes--that we enjoyed, all of which were suggested by John, who was happy to answer any questions we had. Highly recommend!"

- "The house is beautifully designed and decorated. Very functional and cozy! " - "The house was lovely and was thankful the pictures were accurate. Two challenges not apparent from the listing description. 1. When googling the location using Putnam Valley, it indicated 9 miles from our destination; however when you get the physical address after booking, it was 26 miles/(40 minutes) and caused much more time in the car than desired. Although a picturesque drive, many winding, bumpy roads that kept you at low speeds. 2. The bedroom needed for my elderly/mobility challenged mom was 2 flights of stairs and not ideal. Had a few very large ants in the house and couldn't figure out how to use the tv in the primary bedroom. Also, no tv in the main family room off the kitchen (which was on the 2nd floor and also not common). Not a big deal, but typically the primary family room would have a tv. Otherwise, the house was lovely. The owners did a nice job of updates as it is an older property."

It felt very private even though you are only 5 minutes from downtown Carmel and a ShopRite that has all the supplies you will ever need. The cabin has a perfect blend of rustic and bohemian decor, while also providing the modern amenities we wanted in the kitchen and bathroom. The new washer/dryer was a plus. Everything felt very comfortable from the moment we walked in! The front porch was awesome for morning coffee and nature watching, but our favorite place was around the fire pit every night. Kevin was an excellent host and all communications were immediate. We truly hope to be back someday!"
