- "Great." - "Older motel but adequate for one night, room is very small and air conditioner has a hard time getting the room cool " - "I have stayed at Sunset several times during the past nine years. The rooms are always clean and well maintained. Two new items are problematical. They added an internet TV system whose sound levels are awful (commercials far too loud) and an A/C unit free of language labels or commonly known symbols. Eventually I got the room comfortable."

- "This is a very simple motel, but the rooms are bright, clean, and comfortable, despite being quite small. Even though the furnishings are quite basic, USB ports were a pleasant surprise. The hotel staff were exceptionally friendly. A couple of fast food and local diner options available nearby, nothing exceptional." - "Excellent" - "We love this place and will definitely be back. It is a renovated old roadside motel, and they did a great job with it. The room is decorated so cute! It reminds me of a nice bed and breakfast and not a souless hotel. Friendly staff and super clean. Comfy bed with a cozy extra blanket in the closet. I took one star off because the bed could use 2 more pillows. They also need to double check and fix the sticky door that doesn't lock properly. Hopefully updating the locking system on all the doors will be next on their to-do list. That said, the area is safe and we didn't feel stressed about it. Cheryl's place a block down makes an amazing breakfast!"

Our family enjoyed pickleball, water sports, the dock. The bunkhouse is lovely and there was ample space for our group of 3 adults, 3 kids and our labradoodle! A ladder would have been nice for the bunkbeds, but it wasn’t a deal breaker as we didn’t need the top bunk. 🙂 The bunkhouse is super cute and a great addition to the main house; another bonus was having 2 useable decks! Probably the best equipped rental (including safety supplies) we’ve been in - important given the distance to services." - "The cabin is spacious, clean, with great amenities. Secluded and relaxing. Nikki (the host) was very responsive and helpful. There is plenty to explore in the area (lakes, hiking). Our family really enjoyed our stay."

The Meadow Lake Roadhouse is an historic, fully-restored, 1,500 square foot, log roadhouse.
The Roadhouse was originally constructed in the 1860s. It then served as a saloon and stopping point for gold-hunters; later as bunkhouse for cowboys moving herds. Food and drinks were served by the kitchen while simple comforts and respire were offered upstairs in the bedrooms.
In the early 2000s, the house was fully disassembled and rebuilt with the two bottom rounds of logs replaced in the hopes that this historic house will survive another 150 years.
The Roadhouse has a large covered entry porch, with views of the Marble Range. The 860 square foot main floor features a large living room, kitchen and bathroom. In the living room are a wood burning stove, a tv with vhs player and a selection of movies and the house library. The four-piece washroom of the house features a walk-in shower and an old-fashioned claw-foot bathtub.
The Roadhouse kitchen is well stocked with dishes and cookware. It has ample fridge, storage and preparation space. It is equipped with a vintage wood burning stove and oven and a modern range with stove and oven. Off the kitchen is a large deck with a table and chairs for meals outside.
The two bedrooms are located on the second floor. The master bedroom contains a queen-sized bed and is made up with a feather duvet and handmade quilts. In the second bedroom are a double bed and two twin beds also made up with duvets and quilts.
In addition to the wood burning stove, the house is heated by electric radiators.
Wifi is available at the Roadhouse and there is full cell coverage in Meadow Lake Guest Ranch area.
Outside the house is a horse shelter and turn-out. Please call ahead to arrange Bunk and Bale.Peaceful Refuge in an Idyllic Setting!

Met all necessary needs and the place was cozy even with the below freezing temperatures outside (wish the wood stove had a glass front to make keeping the fire going easier visually :). There are many, many more lakes, hiking opportunities, and scenic back roads drives, within a 1 hour drive. Our secluded location, surrounded by crown land also makes an ideal hunting location (as you will see from the piles of antler “sheds” around our place). Guests also have the opportunity to purchase our farm raised meat and eggs during their stay. (products and availability may change and are dependent on season and customer sales)
Keep in mind that we offer a real rural farm experience, complete with everything each season brings, including; heat, cold, dust, mud, bugs, unreliable cell service, no local grocery stores, and wood burning fireplaces to keep warm. If renting in the Fall, Winter, early Spring, be sure to read the WATER details below!
Please Note: If you are looking for a polished and commercialized accommodation with every convenience please consider that our cabin may not be what you're looking for. However, if you're looking to get close to nature, enjoy wildlife, peace and quiet, and an authentic farm experience then our cabins are right for you!
CABIN:
The historic log cabin was built by a local pioneer in 1942. Since it’s completion almost 80 years ago, it has served many purposes, including a cabin for hired cowboys, and vacationing families. We now enjoy renting it out to vacationing or traveling guests.
LIVING SPACE:
The cabin has one 14'x18' open living space, which includes a full kitchen, fireplace, small table with chairs, 1 queen sized bed, and 1 double futon. The kitchen has a propane stove/oven, a mini fridge, coffee maker, and all the cookware and dishes that should be required for your stay.
The cabin has a nice shaded front porch, perfect for relaxing in the evenings or during the heat of the day.
BATHROOM:
The full bathroom includes a toilet, sink & counter, and a small shower, rod & hangers for clothes, and a few available drawers in the dresser.
* Please note - shower is small and sometimes takes time to figure out the right water temperature. Hot water tank is also small, but enough for 1 longer shower, or 2 quick showers at a time.
ACTIVITIES:
A very popular area for hunting, snowmobiling, atving, kayaking and outdoor enthusiasts. We are surrounded by thousands of acres of crown land - just a few minute drive to access. There is no shortage of outdoors to explore, and hundreds of lakes near by.
THE FARM:
Our ranch is family run and fully operating, with baby lambs in the spring, haying in the summer, as well as many chickens, dogs, horses, cows through out the year. We sell organic eggs, chicken, lamb & beef through out the year, which are available for purchase to any visitors.
The cabin is in a nicely treed quiet & private setting, away from most of the farm action. With a large field in view of the cabin you may see the tractor or atv driving around during haying season, or watch animals graze out in the fields.(don't worry, we wont make this noise as the sun comes up, and there is no rooster to wake you at 5am!)
For your safety, guests are not allowed in pens or fields with the animals, and are expected to respect all pets and farm animals. Please keep in mind that we have working dogs on our farm that are loose in the yard. If you have concerns with this please message us prior to booking.
OTHER CABIN DETAILS TO NOTE:
All linens are included (bedding and towels)
The woodstove is the only source of heat in the cabin, and firewood will be provided for this purpose (only). If guests are planning to have a late check-in time during the moderately-chilly months they are welcome to request us to start a fire before their arrival - advanced notice can ensure this (as we are not necessarily home a few hours prior to a guests arrival, if a late request is made). *Please keep this in mind if you are doing a same-day booking. During the indefinitely colder months we will be sure to start a fire and warm the cabin up for your arrival, however, after that it is guests responsibility to keep the fire going if needed. Of course, guests are welcome to request to have us stoke the fire during cold times if they plan to be out for extended periods of time, and we will gladly do so if we are available. *As we respect our guests privacy, we will not to do this unless requested.
Small campfires may be permitted, but on approval only. Provincial campfire bans are often in effect from early June until September. Campfire wood is not provided, and guests must bring their own. Guests must check with us before lighting any campfires.
WATER * When the temperature drops below freezing there will be no running water in the cabin. This typically begins around mid-October until the end of March, however varies from year to year. Please be aware of this before booking around October & March/April, keeping in mind that we can not predict the nighttime temperature in advance more specifically than this. During the times the water freezes we will provide the cabins with a bucket of water with a tap to use in the sink, as well as buckets of water they can use to still flush the toilet. Simply dump some water down the toilet bowl to flush. The shower will not be useable and guests will have to heat their own hot water on the stove.
PETS:
Pets are considered. A message, and approval, prior to booking is required. A $10/day pet fee does apply (not per pet), on arrival.
Because it is a working farm with many animals and livestock, we require all pets on leash when outside - for their own safety, and the safety of our livestock. We do ask for owners to pick up after their dogs - doggy bags are great if you have, or shoveling and throwing in to the bushes or animal pens will also suffice.
For everyone's comfort we make a point of limiting our dogs interaction with guests' pets at first, (we will keep our dogs inside and only by our side if you have a visiting pet) because we understand it is important for any pet introductions to be done with both owners present. Our large dogs can be a bit intimidating for visiting pets, so we understand to need to have "doggy" introductions done in a controlled manner and only when/if appropriate.
Guest access
Access to walk around property and interact with farm animals from outside of pens.
Access, directly from cabin, to endless acres of wilderness for hiking or cycling.
Guests have their own parking area in front of the cabin, and full private use of the cabin.
Guests are free to enjoy walking around the farm although, for your own safety, guests are not permitted to go through any closed gates without permission, (with the exception of driving through driveway gates to access in and out of the property), and never permitted to go in to pens with the animals. We encourage guests to enjoy the nature and wildlife surrounding the property, although respect for privacy around the yard surrounding our private small log home is always appreciated (located alongside the driveway and between the two cabins).
Access to walk around property and interact with farm animals from outside of pens.
Access, directly from cabin, to endless acres of wilderness for hiking or cycling.

Just 2 km away in the ever popular Loon Lake, with trophy trout fishing, as well as the opportunity for boat/canoe rentals. There are many, many more lakes, hiking opportunities, and scenic back roads drives, within a 1 hour drive. Guests also have the opportunity to purchase our farm raised meat and eggs during their stay. (products and availability may change and are dependent on season and customer sales)
Keep in mind that we offer an authentic rural Canadian farm experience, complete with everything each season brings, including; heat, cold, dust, mud, bugs, unreliable cell service, no local grocery stores, and wood burning fireplaces to keep warm. When renting in fall, winter, or early spring, be sure to read the details of WATER below!
Please Note: If you are looking for a polished and commercialized accommodation with every convenience please consider that our cabin may not be what you're looking for. However, if you're looking to get close to nature, enjoy wildlife, peace and quiet, and an authentic farm experience then our cabins are right for you!
The cabin is set on the farm, and although very private, the farm does function around this cabin. You may hear the odd tractor drive by on its way to the fields, or the sheep & horses calling to be fed. (don't worry, we wont make this noise as the sun comes up!)
For your safety, guests are not allowed in pens with the animals, and are expected to respect all pets and farm animals. Please keep in mind that we have working dogs on our farm that are loose in the yard. If you have concerns with this please message us prior to booking.
THE CABIN:
The cabin has been restored from its original shape from 1940. It is 250 square feet. It has a fully equipped kitchen, complete with coffee maker, stove/oven, sink, mini fridge, cookware and dishes. It has a beautiful hand made log queen sized bed, and the option of a double size mattress for the floor that pulls out from under the main bed. It makes for cozy sleeping but the mattress can be pushed back out of the way for the day time. All linens are included.
The cabin is heated solely with a fireplace/woodstove. Firewood for heating the cabin is provided. If guests are planning to have a late check-in time during the moderately-chilly months they are welcome to request us to start a fire before their arrival - advanced notice can ensure this (as we are not necessarily home a few hours prior to a guests arrival, if a late request is made). *Please keep this in mind if you are doing a same-day booking* During the indefinitely colder months we will be sure to start a fire and warm the cabin up for your arrival, however, after that it is guests responsibility to keep the fire going if needed. Of course, guests are welcome to request us stoking the fire during cold times if they plan to be out for the day, and we will gladly do so if we are available. *As we respect our guests privacy, we will not to do this unless requested.
The bathroom is complete with ONLY a toilet. (There are no shower facilities at this time) There is running water, but you must heat your own hot water.
When the temperature drops below freezing there will be no running water in the cabin.
Small campfires may be permitted, but on approval only. Provincial campfire bans are often in effect from early June until September, but differ from year to year. Campfire wood is available for purchase, or bring your own. Guests must check with us before lighting any campfires.
This cabin is perfect for guests looking to get back to nature, enjoy a farm atmosphere, disconnect from busy everyday life, and enjoy a simple, quiet and relaxing get-away.
Our large dogs can be a bit intimidating for visiting pets, so we understand to need to have "doggy" introductions done in a controlled manner and only when a/if appropriate.
Other things to note
Cleaning Fee - see pricing quote
Pet Fee - A $10/day pet fee does apply, on arrival.
SUMMER LONG WEEKENDS - 3 NIGHT MINIMUM STAY
RENTING 2 CABINS?
2 cabins are available to rent on our farm.
As only one cabin is equipped with a shower, we realize groups who are renting both cabins may all want to take advantage of this amenity offered in the single cabin. As a result, there will be an extra $5 charge per person/day for rental of this cabin, in order to take advantage of the shower & hot water in the “Cowboy Cabin”. (Unless the total group size for both cabins is 4 people or less - in which case we will consider the 4 guests utilizing the shower as the 4 guests already included in the price of the Cowboy Cabin)
This may also be discussed with us upon booking, and exceptions can be made for those on very short stays and/or have no desire to make use of the shower or hot water in the Cowboy Cabin. If bookings are made before this price is adjusted for you then the extra fee may be paid after the original booking, or as cash on arrival.
The cabins are private from each other and at opposite ends of the yard from each other, with our house in between. For this reason, if one group is renting both cabins we ask that they congregate in front of either cabin, rather than meeting in the middle of the yard.
