It felt like staying at a relatives house. It is located in nature and I experienced being within a few feet of deers on the property, which was a beautiful sight. There are houses right next door on both sides so not much privacy. Also, note, only one shower (a very nice one!) but if you have a larger group, make sure you factor that in."

This house is one of the best I have to offer, as it's truly a relaxing getaway! One thing I did want to mention, is that unfortunately, many cell phone carriers offer a weak signal in this area if you're not connected to Wi-Fi. The house does have Wi-Fi, but you should expect your cell phone to have a weak signal outside of the houses Wi-Fi network. I actually feel it helps you truly unplug and spend time with friends and family, but I do like to mention as a caution.

- "My husband and I stayed for a short trip at The Highland House. It was just as the pictures show- very clean, bright, and inviting upon entrance. The house was adorably decorated. The kitchen had all the small appliances you could need, and top notch major appliances. The back deck is so inviting with views of the tall trees- fall colors were beautiful! I spent a lot of time on the boho swing on the back deck. Loved it! The area was mostly quiet- with a little bit of typical neighborhood noise- dogs, lawn mowers, but that was OK bc it felt like you lived there. - "There was no communication prior to the beginning of the reservation. I tried contacting the management team for check in info but received nothing until 15min after the beginning of our reservation. When we received the check in info it was wrong and the key was no longer where they said it would be. When we finally got into the property there was obviously no cleaning done to it. There were dirty dishes in the sink, the towels and sheets were in the hall, and the floors were sticky. When the cleaning crew finally showed up an hour later they took another hour to finish the work (which I don’t fault them for). The book with the check-in/out information was filled with false information and the phone call was not the owners. The pool outside was dirty, filled with sand, leaves, and a dead mouse. The house was overall disappointing. We paid way too much for a house that wasn’t well maintained and the management was very poor."

NEWLY RENOVATED FOR THE 2023 SEASON! Our lake house is situated on 1.5 acres just 250 steps to the Cove Road boat launch on beautiful Amston Lake. The lake is a pristine 188-acre retreat located in Lebanon and Hebron, CT. Swimming, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, fishing, and sunbathing are all activities you can enjoy. There are no motor boats allowed, so you can enjoy all of those activities in a peaceful environment. Two beaches are located 1/2 or 1 mile away from the cottage with ample parking at both should you choose to drive.

The house is 850 square feet of pure cottage enjoyment. There are two bedrooms with a queen-sized bed in one on the first floor, and a full and twin in the other upstairs. A sixth person could sleep on the sofa. There is one bathroom with a shower and a washer and dryer. There is a full kitchen and a gas grill for cooking. There is one HD Smart television with wifi. Our cottage is a nice mix of high end and rustic finishes, and it is clean and comfortable. It's a cottage, and it feels like a cottage with a bit of style, especially when you are sitting on the porch swing, enjoying a cold beverage, and reflecting on the day. Or sitting around the fire pit with friends and family, while sharing stories and roasting marshmallows. It feels like you are in the middle of the woods. We have a canoe and two kayaks for you to use, a few beach chairs, and some lawn games. Lebanon is a beautiful, rural community with several operating farms. Amston Lake is on the edge of the Airline Trail where you can enjoy hiking and biking for miles. The Connecticut casinos are about 30 minutes away. Outlet shopping is located at Foxwoods Casino or in Clinton and Westbrook. The CT and RI shore are 40-60 minutes away. New York and Boston are about 90 minutes away. We are close to so much, and yet you will feel like you are far away from it all. We hope you enjoy your stay!

- "We stumbled upon this rental while frantically searching for a place to stay after a property reservation we had made month's ago fell apart at the last minute. The owners went out of their way to get the property ready so we could check in early as there were five of us with 2 pets holed up in a hotel room. This home was perfect. There was room for us all and the open floor plan on the first floor afforded plenty of family together time. We spent a lot of time sitting on the back deck just soaking in the peace and quiet-just what you need on vacation. We were entertained by the hummingbirds that flitted among the many honeysuckle plants bordering the property. We enjoyed cooking on the grill (charcoal provided) The owners thought of everything-right down to a gate to keep doggo on the deck with us and a tie out to let her out in the yard without worry-that she'd get lost chasing the bunnies that loved to dart in and out of the tree line. The private beach was a short walk through the neighbors yard and offered a sandy shore. The state park property is very close by where the dogs can swim or you can put a boat in for some fishing. All in all we had a relaxing comfortable stay and would definitely come back."

- "Everyone in our group of 12 enjoyed their stay. The ages rnged fron 12 to 80. There was fishing from the dock and the provided canoe, kayak, and SUPs. The ducks and beaver swam by everyday. There was lots of swimming. A nightly fire in the big fire pit. A corn hole tournament of the lagrge green space in front of the house. Also room to set set up a badminton net. Only one hot night, otherwise it was open windows every day and night. The whole house fan really worked pulling in the cool air then pullingg it thru the house. A front screen door would have been nice. Dish washing would have been easier if the light over the sink had worked. A suggestion to the owner is to replace all the interior lights with LEDs. The kitchen was well equipped. Interesting to not there was a great microwave oven! However all the dinner and dessert plates were marked non-microwaveable. Either a knife sharpener or a few more "sharp" knives would have been welcome. Visited the Gillette Castle, needed a reservation so did not get inside. Also visited Mystic, if you go be sure to buy an ice cream at the Drawbridge Ice Cream Shop and say hi to Connor. We also made a trip to the beach! One final wish; it would have been nice if the owner provided a guest book to sign and a history of the house. It was pretty amazing."

This private rental unit is located on the second and third floors of a two family house. The owners live in the rest of the house. There are no shared spaces between units. You enter from a second floor deck into the main room, featuring a fully equipped kitchen with an antique farm sink, books, board games, a coffee station and a flat screen tv. Although this room is not huge (200 sq feet) there is ample seating for 8 and a coffee table. For additional dining options there are tray tables available, and a large outdoor dining area. The side bedroom features a twin over double bunk bed. In the front of the house is a small sunroom, which can also be used as a bedroom, with two loveseats for lounging that pull out into twin size beds. Up a set of stairs is a charming converted attic. (Please note that this is a loft style space with very low sloped ceilings - 5’ 10” at its highest) There is one queen and two twin beds. The bathroom includes a tub/shower, bidet equipped toilet, and vanity stocked with amenities. There is a spacious outdoor shower at the base of the steps

This unit is accessed by an outdoor stairway, guests must be able to climb stairs. The stairs to the third floor bedroom are a bit steep.

The entire unit, outdoor shower, and deck is your private space. You also have full access to the patio, outdoor dining table, screened porch, yard, gardens, pool (14 feet x 48 inch saltwater), grill, hammock and fire pit. The owners do not use any of the backyard amenities when our guests are outside - when you are using the pool, patio, screened porch, etc. you will not be sharing with anyone!

There is parking available for several cars. There is a pack and play for those with a small child. TV is ROKU equipped so you can access all your streaming accounts. Pool is open seasonally. We are on well water and a septic system. For those who dislike the taste of well water, we provide a Brita pitcher. There is one outdoor security camera which only shows the entrance to the unit, there are no other cameras inside or outside. My husband John and I live in the other half of the house and are available for anything you may need.

Our house is just minutes from Pickerel Lake, Bashan Lake, Upper and Lower Moodus lakes, Day Pond State Park, Salmon River State Forest, and more! Our welcome book includes detailed information on all of the local attractions.

House Rules:
- Check-in: after 3:00 PM Check-out: 11:00 AM. No late check-out as our cleaners arrive shortly after 11:00
- Guest limit strictly enforced. No parties or events. No visitors without prior permission.
- No pets.
- "Quieter" hours are 9 pm through 7 am on weekdays and 11 pm to 7 am on weekends. We don’t expect silence but during these hours please keep noise/voices at reasonably low levels. At all times please be respectful of us and our neighbors and refrain from yelling, screaming, and very loud music.
- We are on a septic system. DO NOT flush anything except toilet paper. Dispose of wipes (even "flushable"), tissues, paper towels, sanitary items, etc. in the trash. In the kitchen sink always use the provided sink strainer and dump food particles from the strainer into the garbage. IF FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS RULE results in clogged pipes, you will be responsible for any plumbing fees to unclog.
- Children must be attended at all times. No children allowed outside without an adult present.
- Window screens are designed to keep bugs out – not to keep kids in. If you have young children, to prevent falls only open windows from the top down (don’t forget to push the screen to the top as well)
- If you need to take out any trash or recyclables please place in the bins to the right of the garage. Trash bags left outside attracts nighttime wildlife!
- Please no food or beverages in bed.
- Absolutely no smoking or vaping inside or on the deck. Smoking and vaping of legal substances allowed on patio or at fire pit only. Please use the provided covered ashtrays for all ash and butts. Do not leave butts on patio or lawn.
- No candles or open flames.
- No diving or jumping into pool. Ladder must be locked when pool is not in use. Children must be attended at all times while in pool. Swim at your own risk.
- When using hammock: take care getting in and out. No standing or jumping. Gentle rocking is fine but no forceful swinging. Two person maximum. Children using hammock must be supervised at all times.
- For your safety please do not enter the garage, barn, or greenhouse. The smaller screened porch on the front of the house is reserved for the owners.
- Please refrain from cooking foods that leave a strong lingering odor, such as curry or fried fish, inside. You are welcome to cook these foods on the grill.
- When using the fire pit or grill, do not leave unattended.

- "I booked Lena's place for a mini college reunion, 8 friends who haven't seen each other in a while. What a good choice! We love to cook, so we made dinner at the house, happy that there were plenty of pots and pans, bowls, utensils, etc. We were hoping to eat outside on the patio but it was a little rainy so we ate inside. The kitchen/living room isn't huge, but there was definitely enough room for us all, plenty of seating, a big coffee table, and we used a few of the tv trays. I opted to sleep in the little sunroom, which has a wooden ceiling and is super cute. I was skeptical because I usually don't like sofa beds but these were actually quite comfortable. I especially appreciated the little white noise machine as I'm a light sleeper. There is a book in the house with information on nearby things to do, so the next day we all went hiking in a state forest right down the road. I went to school in CT but didn't really know much about this part of the state - there seems to be so much to do! It's a beautiful area and Lena has a beautiful home. Thanks!"

The Bedroom One bathroom has dual sinks with plenty of fine towels and accessories. This bathroom has a full glass walk in spacious shower.

Bedroom Two has a new Casper King size adjustable bed via remote control. Perfect for sitting up in bed and looking out the three large picture windows to our Pine Pond at the Hopyard and the trails of Devil's Hopyard State Park.
Bedroom Two is natural pine post and beam construction with a clear amber finish. This room also offers a remote controlled gas fireplace to warm up the atmosphere.
Bedroom Two's bathroom features a double sink vanity and a claw foot slipper bathtub with a TV for relaxation and a perfect finish for a enjoyable day.
The bathroom has tub level windows to give you a beautiful view of the woods and overlooking flowing brook.

- "Highlights: My family of 5 had a great time visiting Amston Lake. We loved the nearby (5 min walk) sandy beach with 2 kayaks, life jackets and paddles provided for our use. Susan was quick to reply when we couldn't locate the paddles. The memory foam beds were comfortable, along with the light summer linens. To clarify the listing- the 2 downstairs rooms each have a queen bed, and updstairs has 2 twins. I understood there were inflatable beds for use, but we did not use. Having AC was a must and worked well for us, but units, particularly the main and upstairs, were quite noisy. Things that would have improved our stay: The photos make the cottage appear updated and well finished. In person this cottage felt more rustic due to things like sloping and soft in spots floors, doors that stuck, and lighting fixture issues in the kitchen. Overall, we'd recommend this place for the location, spaciousness, and lake access."

- "We rented this property for a family vacation. My husband and I live nearby and my daughter and family were driving 12 hours to stay at the lake. We had a wonderful time. The location is spectacular. Lake Heyward is a hidden gem. They only allow electric boats, so any traffic is minimal. The water is clean and clear, and the scenery is beautiful. The house is well appointed and had everything we needed for a great lake vacation. It is very close to grocery shopping and restaurants, and near hiking, farms and other cool things. David was a wonderful host. He was warm, quick to answer questions (saved the day when my daughter's 7 year old locked them out) and easy to connect with. Wonderful visit. I am hoping this becomes a summer tradition."

- "Honestly not what I expected. Upon arrival yard was unmowed and garbage strewn on ground next to entryway of the loft. A Rooster is housed in the back yard and is very loud! When we first walked in we were not even sure we were in the correct place. Structurally the pictures are accurate however cosmetically the loft looked nothing like pictures. Furniture is old and ripped beds were not in the rooms as pictured, no wall mounted tvs, very uncomfortable wooden dining room chairs, litterally nothing looks like the advertising pics. The large bedroom was bee infested, a case so severe i had to call the host who did respond and had an exterminator come in about an hour and a half (in the meantime i got stung 3 times) exterminator closed off the main bedroom which is most of the sleeping space and informed us we could not use this room for 24hours. I called host and told him of exterminators instuctions not to use lg bedroom and all he said was Im sorry. We made the best of a bad situation and camped on livingroom floor. No offer of any type of compensation or refund from the host. As stated by one previous review I found on a different site there were clothing items in many drawers, food in the freezer and refigerator, the counters were sticky, there is no coffee maker , just a french press and no toaster. Our stay was ok but do not base your decision to stay here based on the few pictures available on this site."

Once outside you will find 18 acres of woods, fields, gardens, pastures and art. We invite you to make our land yours and search out the many private sitting areas to contemplate, read and create. Please feel free to pick whatever is in season from our organic garden. We regularly grow berries, lettuce, tomatoes, peas, potatoes and assorted herbs. You’ll have to wait until fall to collect eggs from our new flock of chickens, but the goats are always happy for a scratch and a treat. If you are bringing your children there are numerous playscapes they are welcome to explore.

This house in one of the best we have to offer, as it's truly a relaxing getaway! One thing I did want to mention, is that unfortunately, many cell phone carriers offer a weak signal in this area if you're not connected to the Wi-Fi. The house does have Wi-Fi, but you should expect your cell phone to have a weak signal outside of the houses Wi-Fi network. I actually feel it helps you truly unplug and spend time with friends and family, but I do like to mention.
