If you are looking for a peaceful retreat with incredible water and natural landscapes, you have found it. This is the perfect location surrounded by nature.

This second floor farmhouse cottage is located on a private, historic family estate, and offers acres of open land with views of the Long Island Sound and the mouth of the Connecticut River. There is access to private beaches on the Long Island Sound where you will often be the only people you can see. There are plenty of things to do in the Old Lyme and surrounding area, with unique shops and art galleries.

Peaceful retreat: This secluded second floor cottage, located on a private lane, rests in a former barnyard with fantastic views of Long Island Sound, the mouth of the Conn. River, Saybrook lighthouses, marshes and coves teeming with birds (bird sanctuary). The space below (first floor) provides a laundry room, storage and carport. It is a short walk from Udder Heaven to a secluded beach on the Long Island Sound and another beach on a protected cove, open fields with walking, hiking and run paths are just the beginning of this quiet private retreat. This is a unique and special place to bird watch, especially osprey with many nest on the estate. If you enjoy photography, this is one of the best locations for unique photos and memories.

A huge deck for entertaining, a covered carport and laundry facility are included. It's name is 'Udder Heaven' because it once housed the dairy, when the farm was active.

Cottage details:

The cottage is on the second floor, requiring climbing stairs.

Dogs are welcome, $75 per week cleaning fee per dog is required. We ask smokers to use the deck just outside the living room. Pillows and blankets are supplied at no charge. Sheets and towels are provided for an additional $100 fee (select when booking). If you decide to bring your own linens (sheets) and towels, there are 2 twin beds and one queen bed, plus a convertible couch (double). The kitchen is fully equipped, and the cottage has ceiling fans and is air conditioned (quiet, ductless with compressor outside). Because there is no heat, the cottage is closed during winter. Utilities are part of the rent, and local phone service is provided. The following is also included with rental of Udder Heaven: Samsung flat screen 32' HDTV, DVD/VCR player, internet services. The normal rental period is from 4:00 PM on Saturday to 10:00 AM Saturday, so we can squeeze in a thorough cleaning.

This is a simple cottage in a phenomenal location, and we are doing our best to keep costs reasonable, for many to enjoy. Please read the VRBO ad thouroughly and ask as many questions as you can. Under ammenities you will find all of the things included with this rental, if it isn't listed, it probably isn't included, but again... please ask. You will find that mostly all necessities required for a good experience are provided.

Our Beach House is close to the mouth of the Connecticut River surrounded by the salt marsh and at the end of our street you can see Old Saybrook lighthouses. We have two major shopping outlets. Quaint local towns. Award winning casinos. Close to Rocky Neck State Park, Gillette Castle, Mystic Seaport the Aquarium and the Coast Guard Academy. The New London Ferry which departs daily to Block Island and Long Island. Lots of restaurants serving up local fare. Beautiful beaches. Theater, music, and a variety of activities (kayaking, hiking, bird watching). Many museums in both directions on I-95 and I-91.

The space
We are located half-way between New York and Boston - a little over two hours from each city and 45 minutes from New Haven and Hartford. We are minutes away from the train station for easy travel to Boston and New York.

You’ll love our place because of its location, spectacular sunsets at the end of the street and a nature preserve in our neighborhood. Launch a kayak and enjoy the salt marsh. A great place to come relax and unwind. Just simply a tranquil unique place.

The house is fully equipped just bring your food and enjoy. A bright 1,038 Sq Ft duplex ranch style house. The right side of the house is the rental. The space is a 2 bedroom with a queen size bed and a full size bed, 1 large bathroom and a washer and dryer.

Selden Cottage is a charming, cozy, comfortable place with views of fields, stone walls and barns. It has a private driveway off a quiet road. There is excellent biking, hiking and walking from the front door. Occasionally a family of eagles can be seen training their young on the ice 100 yards from the front door. Osprey fish all summer long a short walk away. The Goodspeed Opera House, Chester Hadlyme Ferry, Fox Hopyard Golf Course, Gillette Castle and the Hadlyme Country Store are all within a few minutes by car. No one lives in this cottage. It is only available for short term rental.

This two-bedroom cottage is located on a private, historic family estate, and offers acres of open land with views of the Long Island Sound and the mouth of the Connecticut River, Saybrook lighthouses, marshes and coves teeming with birds including Osprey, Heron and Egret. There is access to private beaches on the Long Island Sound (a 5 min walk) where you will often be the only people you can see. If you enjoy photography, this is one of the best locations for unique photos and memories.

Cottage details: The cottage was fully renovated in 2023 with all new appliances, has a second story balcony and an outdoor stone patio. It has full baths on both the 1st and 2nd floors and a washer and dryer on the second floor. The kitchen is fully equipped, and the house has both heat and AC. Pillows and blankets are supplied at no charge. There is a pull-out couch in the living room. Please supply your own sheets and pillowcases for the twins and king bed, or bedding can be provided for a fee. No smoking allowed in the house. The normal rental period is for a minimum of 7 days during the high season (June-Sep), check in is 4:00 PM on Saturday with check out at 11:00 AM Saturday.

Old Lyme environs: There are plenty of things to do in the Old Lyme and surrounding area, with unique shops and art galleries. Old Lyme is a central location for many activities. Nearby are rivers and coves convenient for kayaking and sailing. The Mystic Seaport is a short distance away, as are Gillette's Castle, the Essex Steam Train (and boat ride), Devil's Hopyard Park, the Florence Griswold Art Museum, the Godspeed Opera House for summer shows, Chamard Vineyard, golf and fine dining (The Griswold Inn in Essex) and the best pizza, ice cream, and grinder shops in New England. Guests have access to the entire home inside and out, including a large and inviting teak outdoor dining table that comfortably seats 6. In-ground solar lights surround the patio, creating a warm and inviting environment. There is an outdoor shower next the deck which is wonderful for showering off after a long day at the beach. A few outdoor games are provided as well, including volleyball, badminton, and cornhole which you can play in the small grassy backyard.

This cozy cottage feels open and spacious with an open floor plan and beautiful beams accentuating the ceiling. The living room is a serene space, with a sofa and 2 comfortable lounge chairs to relax in. In the cabinet below the tv, you will find games, books, and art materials for rainy days or evening entertainment. Included in the space is a round pedestal table that seats 4, and a breakfast bar in the kitchen that seats an additional 2. The large and spacious kitchen has everything you'll need to cook a meal, including pots, pans, cooking utensils, etc.

You will find the washer and dryer in the kitchen as well. A bonus sunroom off the front of the home adds even more seating, with a wicker chair and sofa for you to enjoy your morning coffee or evening drink. There are hooks located on the wall of the sunroom for guests to hang their towels from the beach, and a basket on the floor to grab fresh towels from.

There are 2 bedrooms total, with 1 queen bed downstairs and 1 queen bed + 2 twin beds upstairs. Each bed contains soft, 100% cotton sheets and 2 pillows per person along with a light duvet and extra blanket at the bottoms of each bed for nights that may get a little cooler.
