Malaga Hills is built into the mountains overlooking the coast. There are only 5 bedrooms, so the standard of service is maximum. Looking out from the balcony in our room were peerless views of the mountains and the pretty, whitewashed village of Cómpeta. We did yoga on our first morning, on an outdoor terrace. Breakfast is served on the terrace by the pool and honesty bar. There’s a sumptuous library, also hosting a massage chair for relaxing after a day of hiking. There’s an extensive directory of hiking routes. The food in the local restaurants is generous, inexpensive (by UK standards) and Ruud will recommend and make reservations for you. We are so relaxed after our mini break here, that we wish we could’ve stayed longer. V happy to recommend. "

- "A good location for us, we know the area from previous visits. We wanted somewhere close to Competa but El Dorado had a the added bonus of a pool!!! Marek and Derek have thought of everything, the room was spacious with good shower facilities and wardrobe space. We were not expecting the offer to have lunch and dinner, as we travel around quite a lot we did not take up this extra offer. However, the breakfast provided was extensive and sets you up for the day! There is the option to use the ‘honesty bar’ which is a lovely touch! I took advantage of having a facial during my stay which was exceptional! The products were good quality. The villa is a short drive to Competa and about 25mins back down to Algorobbo. You can take the road down to Torrox Costa which is a little more narrow. It was a great addition to our holiday spent travelling around the area and we would love to stay here again! "

Von der Hauptstraße aus verläuft die Fahrt größtenteils über betonierte Landstraßen und die letzten paar hundert Meter sind unbefestigte, unbefestigte Straßen. Es kann ein wenig einschüchternd sein, aber es ist in Ordnung, wenn man sich erst einmal daran gewöhnt hat. Die Villa liegt 20 Autominuten von Torrox Costa entfernt, wo es tolle Strandbars und Restaurants gibt und auch Torrox Pueblo einen Besuch wert ist. Fahren Sie 20 Minuten landeinwärts nach Competa und genießen Sie die schöne Aussicht, die engen Gassen und das fantastische Essensangebot. Wir können an der Villa überhaupt nichts auszusetzen haben und würden sie auf jeden Fall jedem empfehlen!"

Casa Olivia is set in the spectacular mountain scenery of Andalusia in southern Spain. It is in a peaceful but not isolated position only about 10 minutes drive from the restaurants and shops of Cómpeta, a typically picturesque Pueblo Blanco. Our villa is set in a large level plot that is attractively planted with a wide variety of Mediterranean plants and has a 8x4 metre pool. The pool has passive solar heating, comfortably extending the swimming season from mid-April to mid-October. During the Summer season, the pool is cleaned twice a week and garden maintenance is done once a week. The property is walled and gated and protected by a 24/7 Securitas security system. There is a secure, fire proof safe for guest use to protect valuables.

Inside you will find everything you need for a relaxing holiday, a real home away from home. Casa Olivia has been freshly painted inside (Dec 2022) and outside (Feb 2023). There are two large air conditioned (for cooling and heating) bedrooms with full width fitted wardrobes. The new airconditioning units were installed in August 2024. The master bedroom has a new (Nov 2022) King Size hotel quality bed, with a memory foam mattress. The twin beds in the second bedroom can be converted into a king bed on request.

The spacious lounge has two settees, an LG smart TV with over 120 channels (Spanish, English, German, Austrian, Norwegian and Swedish), Netflix, Prime Video, amongst others, and an Apple TV. The full kitchen is very well equipped. Outside there is a very private solar heated pool, extensive sun terraces and a large covered eating area next to the pool, with outside kitchen and BBQ. There is also a covered terrace at the front of the villa where you can sit or doze in the shade if it's too hot by the pool or to sip a glass of vino and watch the sun go down over the mountains. The Wi-Fi (15 Mbps download) covers the whole property.

PETS
Pets are very welcome at Casa Olivia! The house is not located directly along a road and is relatively secluded and safe. That said, it is good to know that the garden is not 100% fenced off. You'll have to keep an eye on 'explorative' pets.

CYCLING & HIKING
The area is fantastic for cyclists and is becoming well known by cyclists of all levels, from amateur road and mountainbikers, to keen long distance road bikers and triathletes. The roads in La Axarquia are quiet, offer spectacular views of the mountains and sea and car drivers are very respectful to cyclists (there is a strongly enforced law, requesting cars to give cyclists 2 meters of space when overtaking).

Casa Olivia is ideally positioned, with just a short concrete driveway from the Torrox-Competa Road (one of the main cycling routes) making access for road bikes or mountain bikes really easy. We strongly recommend bike rental from Cycle Malaga www.cyclemalaga.com. Steve and Helen offer excellent service, high quality, perfectly maintained road and mountain bikes and deliver the bikes to and collect bikes from Casa Olivia. They will also give great tips and advice for the best routes to search out.

The coast from Nerja, to Maro and beyond to La Herradura offers breathtaking rugged coastal views and satisfying (but not too strenuous!) hills to climb. Due to the motorway running in parallel but higher up the coast, there are few cars on this beautiful route. And there are plenty of places to take a break for a drink and something to eat to keep you going.

The area is also a hikers paradise, with lovely walks directly near the villa. Further afield there are more challenging hikes in the nearby national parks, along the coast and in the various valleys. The hike to the peak of La Maroma is on many a hikers bucket list.

OTHER THINGS TO DO
There are remote and quiet pebble and sand beaches nearby between Maro and Nerja and more accessible, beaches, with lively boulevards filled with restaurants and bars at Torrox Costa, Algarrobo and Nerja. For the children there are pretty coves as well as 'bucket & spade' beaches; one of the best Aqua Parks in area is at Torre del Mar. The famous Caves of Nerja is within 25 minutes drive. There are also great opportunities for horse riding & pony trekking for all abilities near Competa.

For those who like sight seeing, in addition to Competa there are many other Moorish Pueblo Blanco's nearby just waiting to be explored. Further afield Granada & the Alhambra Palace are one and a half hour's drive away. Sevilla and Cordoba are less than three hours drive. For keen golfers there are two 18 hole golf courses within easy driving distance and skiing in the Sierra Nevada is less than 2 hours away.

Even more things to do!: Lovers of the great out doors will find some spectacular walks in the Sierra Tejeda and Almijara Natural parks which are literally on the doorstep. You might try the gentle strolls along Moorish irrigation channels between Competa and Canillas through citrus and Avocado plantations. Or for the more adventuress the views from the old Malaga - Granada mule track at 1000m are breathtaking.

Competa: The nearby village of Competa (4km - 10 minutes drive) is a very typical Pueblo Blanco (White Village). You can watch the daily comings and goings from the relative tranquillity of one of Competa’s many restaurants and bars. Competa has plenty of amenities, including banks, bars, restaurant, supermarkets, pharmacies and bakeries. Many artists have settled in the area and a leisurely browse through Competa’s craft shops and art galleries is a rewarding way to pass a few hours. Each Saturday morning there is a market in Competa’s lower square. For a small fee visitors can use the pleasant swimming pools, gardens and tennis courts at the Balcon de Competa hotel.

The holiday villa is ideally located for exploring the 'pueblos blancos', the charming whitewashed Andalusian villages along the 'Ruta del Vino y Sol'.
Torrox Pueblo, with its narrow alleys and cozy village square is a 15-minute drive. The beach of Torrox Costa with its numerous and nice terraces is a 20-minute drive.
The Autovía del Mediterráneo passes both villages. Charming villages (such as Frigiliana) and beautiful coastal towns (such as Nerja) are easily accessible via this highway.
The beautiful and cultural city of Malaga is only a 50 minute drive and within 1,5 hour is the historic city of Granada, with its beautiful Alhambra palace and Moorish gardens.

The villa was nice and cool so we were never uncomfortable. It had a lovely lounge with gorgeous views all round. The electric radiators and air con provided much needed warmth. Luckily by the following day the weather perked up so we could enjoy the outdoor space. The outdoor kitchen and bbq was wonderful with much needed shade whilst cooking. And we loved the pagoda seating area with 360 degree views. Sun or shade depending where you sat anytime of day. Wonderful! The pool is just a nice size for a swim or cool down. The kitchen is well equipped with a modern hob and oven. A King size bed would be a nice addition to the bedroom. Plenty of drawer and wardrobe space. My only grumble would be the bathroom. That shower curtain and me did battled everyday. A shower cubicle would be better. I dislike stepping in and out a bath although I appreciate some people like baths. Just my personal opinion. The road leading to the villa by Andalusia standards is pretty good. It’s mostly made up, not too narrow or steep. Once you’ve done it once or twice it isn’t too bad, especially when you see how steep or narrow some of the roads are nearby. Competa and Torrox towns are about 15/20 minutes drive as too to Torrox beach for shops and restaurants. I would say if you plan on doing more cooking than eating out then stop at a Carefour on the way from the airport to the villa as shops nearby aren’t huge. Co-Op size."

Cómpeta is is well known for many hiking or biking routes and tours and due to the adjacent Natural Park areas, recommended for outdoor and nature enthusiasts.
The mountain road A7207 is perfect for cycling between the coast and Competa and is a well used route.
The Pavo Real Bar/Restaurant is a short drive/ Walk and has a great multinational atmosphere and has an excellent Sunday Lunch.
On the outskirts of Cómpeta you will find a small riding school. Directly from the stables the beautiful natural park can be reached on horseback
La Cueva de Nerja, one of the largest caves in Europe is a beautiful cave with amazing stalactites, is also known as the 'Cathedral of the Paleolithic. Is worth a visit. In July, because of the wonderful acoustics, annually a large dance and music festival is organized
The picturesque village of Competa is known for its Moorish influences with narrow winding streets, whitewashed houses and a beautiful village church.
All the local villages have numerous fiestas, with music and dancing throughout the summer , so you could party well into the night.

- "Beautiful property in a quiet location - only 15 minutes drive from Competa and the beaches at Torrox. The pool, comfortable outdoor seating, shaded areas and air conditioning in villa made a very hot fortnight in August very enjoyable!" - "We chose this villa because of its remoter location, quiet area and not being overlooked. The pictures do not do it justice! The outside space was perfect for chilling with lots of places to sit, the well looked after gardens were beautiful to look at and we saw so much wildlife including geckos and a few bats at night. The pool although not huge was perfect for cooling off in and playing some volleyball, inflatables were appreciated! The villa itself was gorgeous, tastefully decorated with quality furnishings, it isn’t massive but perfect when you’re outside most of the time anyway. Air conditioning was great, kitchen very well equipped (if like us you like to eat in a lot) the bbq was well used. We visited a few local areas, the nearest beach at Torrox Costa was around 20 minutes away and much more touristy with bars/restaurants galore. Our favourite was Competa about 15 mins away, a beautiful traditional town with many windy little streets to explore, shops selling gifts, ceramics, jewellery etc, cafes and restaurants with lots of choice. The market on Saturday was small but really nice and sold lots of different things including local produce. About 50 mins from Malaga airport we would say a car is essential for traveling around, the route is straight forward but the roads up the windy hill side do require some patience, the views however are absolutely stunning. There is an English bar about a km away that serves food and has music on. Don’t hesitate to book!"

The 250 year old and completely newly renovated house in the Moorish style is cool in summer and offers a cozy retreat in the winter months. The entrance opens into the open living area from the kitchen, dining room and living room and is equipped with a modern Swedish stove that heats the entire floor.

The house has a fully equipped kitchen, complete with an electric hob, ceramic hob, microwave, dishwasher, kitchen utensils and refrigerator.

The house is quiet and centrally located. 5 min. to the beautiful plaza. Around the corner bakery, fruit shop, supermarket, swimming pool, church, museum, restaurants and bars. The bus and tourist information is also in 3 min. reachable. The nature park and hiking trails also start around the corner.
You can rent mountain bikes, go hiking, book adventure tours, take Spanish courses, motocross, ... and much more!

Heerlijk gewandeld vanuit het huis zelf richting de prachtige witte stadjes Torrox en ook richting Competa waar we in beide gevallen ook genoten hebben van een heerlijke lunch en weer terug gewandeld zijn. Daarnaast zijn we in ook naar Nerja gegaan op nog geen half uurtje. Hebben we heerlijk gestruind en geshopt. Tot slot hebben we ook gezwommen aan het stand van Torrox coast. Alle ingrediënten waren in huis om heerlijk op het terras in de zon te kunnen ontbijten en in de avond te dineren. Lekker zelf de drukte op zoeken wanneer je wilt of genieten van het zwembad en de rust wanneer je daar zin in hebt. Een echte aanrader dus dit huis."

The only slight negative is the location; there is a local garage (Tej Autos) behind the apartment and from the roof terrace you look onto a builders yard to the left, with open countryside views beyond. However you don’t notice this when in the apartment and we would have no hesitation returning."
