Individual log cabin with modern electric, walk-in shower, & kitchenette. Convenient on site cafe, a bait shop & a gift store. All the food was great, but the Chicken fried steak & the biscuits w/sausage gravy were fantastic. Will here stay again!" - "I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Gwin’s Lodge & Roadhouse in Cooper Landing, Alaska! From the moment we arrived, the warm hospitality and rustic charm of this historic lodge made us feel right at home. Nestled at the base of the stunning Kenai Mountains and just steps from the turquoise waters of the Kenai River, the location is unbeatable for anyone looking to immerse themselves in Alaska’s natural beauty. Our cabin was cozy, clean, and well-equipped with a kitchenette, comfortable beds, and a charming patio offering gorgeous views of the surrounding forest and mountains. The attention to detail in the accommodations made our stay both relaxing and memorable. The on-site restaurant was a highlight—those famous ½ lb. cheeseburgers and smoked salmon chowder lived up to the hype, and the carrot cake was the perfect sweet finish! The staff was incredibly friendly, offering great recommendations for local activities like fishing the nearby Russian River. Whether you’re an angler chasing world-class salmon or just seeking a peaceful retreat in the heart of the Chugach National Forest, Gwin’s Lodge is the perfect basecamp. The free WiFi and convenient amenities like the tackle shop and ATM were a bonus, making our stay hassle-free. We can’t wait to return to this gem on the Kenai Peninsula for another unforgettable Alaskan adventure! Highly recommend. Nick "

The house is located a five hundred yards upriver on the opposite bank from the Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge, just upstream the Upper River rapids. The living set up is ideal for a romantic couple, a family of 6 or 4-5 friends. Moose, bear, bald eagles, beavers, goats and mountain sheep are commonly seen from the property. Outside there are plentiful wild raspberries in late summer, an outdoor sauna and wade fishing for Rainbows and Dollies.
Wildlife viewing from the property in May can be fantastic before the river opens for fishing. Bald eagles frequently hunt from the trees in the backyard during the early season. The fly fishing for trophy rainbow trout and Dolly Varden on the upper river is tremendous between July and late October. In late September and October silver salmon begin to spawn in the river behind the house.
The fall season in Cooper Landing is arguably the most beautiful time of the year. As the summer season comes to an end the rainbow trout and silver salmon fishing is at its peak as the deciduous trees turn bright yellow and orange.
The Kenai River is open for fishing between June 11th and May 1st. The ADF&G website is a great source of information on the latest fishing regulations.

- "This property is awesome! The location couldn’t be better. Right on the river and every day we wAtched a family of eagles along the river. The house is well stocked and comfortable for 4 adults. Can’t wait to come back. The owners were really responsive. Thanks for an awesome time!!!" - "Wonderful place. Central location, easy access to fishing." - "We loved our stay at the Bear Den! We spent most of our time on the patio watching the local wildlife, a beaver dragging branches upstream, salmon jumping and eagles soaring above and perched nightly across the river. The view was extraordinary so we dined on the patio every meal. The kitchen is pretty well stocked but was missing a few items such as a vegetable peeler and casserole dishes for heating food."

A small library stocked with Alaskana books for pleasurable reading is available, but we also have DirecTV and free wifi. You might find our huskies more entertaining! The host huskies usually greet you and will keep you company if you desire; they are all as happy to host you as we are! - "Great accommodation. Had all the amenities of home including coffee in the canister and r we day to go! Great towels. Comfy beds. Beautiful cabin." - "The hosts were amazing. Chris and her husband, Wayne, were fantastic hosts. To our utmost delight, there was firewood stocked by the fire pits for our use. There was also BBQ grills available for grilling. The grounds were breathtaking, with incredible seating all around the river; double-sided rocking chairs, rocking picnic tables, and fire pit seating. The dock was perfect for river-side viewing and a quick dip for some. We will be back! A wonderful treat for our visiting guests. "
