On the last day I saw a staff member and mentioned that there was no soap in our room upon arrival. She said if I had called the office they'd have sent it over, but I didn't want to bother them by then. "

Bear Paw Studio Retreat is located on a beautifully secluded 20 acre private forest, with only a two mile drive to Soldotna boasting an array of coffee shops, grocery and specialty shops and restaurants. Bear Paw is located in the lower level of our home, has a private entrance, designated parking and plenty of parking for tenant boats or extra vehicles. With king and queen beds in the sleeping area, Bear Paw Studio comfortably accommodates two to four guests. Bear Paw Studio is equipped with modern kitchen appliances and lovely Alaskan decor. Complete with a very large bear hide covering an entire wall! Black out window coverings provide sufficient darkness during our bright summer months allowing our guests to get a good night's sleep. There is a large freezer exclusively for guest use, which is particularly useful during fishing season. Fish cleaning, however, is prohibited on the premises, due to potential attraction of bears. During the summer months, Bear Paw is a perfect fisherman’s retreat. In winter, when snow is abundant, we maintain several cross country ski trails and have a fabulous sledding hill for those who desire snowy adventures. Bear Paw has something for everyone traveling to the Kenai or Soldotna area.

Beautiful River front lot located on the "swift" water section of the Kenai River(RM25), known for the Best Sockeye fishing in the World! Many other species of fish including the King and Silver Salmon as well as Trophy Trout and Dolly Varden. Just walk out the front door less than a 100' and step onto aluminum fishing docks, or natural grassy banks, to bring in the Big ones. UPDATE: 2022 we have a 10'x12' fish processing shed available for our guests to use. It has 3 freezers, countertop with sink and 2 sealers for your fish.

The washer/dryer is a huge plus given that fishing can get a little slimy. Anything that I needed, Cyndy had! Needed a net - she provided. Wanted a coffee pot instead of the Keurig - she provided. Grill was awesome and we took solid advantage of for fish, steaks and burgers. Overall, the nicest VRBO I have stayed in, and I have stayed all over the world. Highly recommend."

Since April 2020 our cleaning staff has been using an enhanced cleaning process: we use a 2-step approach in cleaning our vacation rentals. We CLEAN using a detergent and hot water for visibly dirty surfaces, followed by DISINFECTION (using Microban, Lysol spray, Chlorox bleach solution, Ozium).

"High Touch" surfaces - We clean and disinfect high touch surfaces after each stay. These areas include tables, hard-backed chairs, doorknobs, handrails, light switches, TV remotes, wardrobe and cabinet handles, desks, toilets, sinks, bedside tables, kitchen and bathroom surfaces.

"Low Touch" areas (such as floors, walls, blinds) - These are being cleaned using hot water and detergent. We mop from one end of the premises to the other.

"Soft surfaces" (such as carpeted floors, rugs) - We remove visible dirt and clean with appropriate cleaners indicated for use on these surfaces.

Towels, linens, bedding are laundered on the hottest setting - We also use a Lysol Sanitizing Laundry additive to sanitize all linens and towels.

We provide each vacation rental with a supply of hand sanitizer, antibacterial soap, and face masks for use in public places.

We did struggle with “all the remotes” but we weren’t there just to watch TV. The chunky dishes were difficult to arrange in the dishwasher. Perhaps some more normal size glassware for milk, orange juice and water. We also appreciated the convenient washer and dryer. Could have made use of a flyswatter but couldn’t find one. Sister in law wished they had more counter/shelf space in master bath. The frosting on the cake was our own mama moose and calf!!"

Steelhead Cabin @ Keystone Kozy is a wonderfully appointed cabin with close river access to the world famous Kenai River.

The Kenai River is the most popular sport fishing destination in Alaska. Each year there are two runs each of king salmon, coho salmon, sockeye salmon, plus a run of pink salmon every other year. The world record king salmon, which weighed about 44 kg (97 lb), was caught in the Kenai River in 1985. The Kenai is also the home of trophy size rainbow trout and Dolly Varden. Occasionally there will be reports of catching of "Steelhead"(Sea-run Trout). In recent years, the king salmon fishery has been closed or heavily restricted due to low returns of fish. The coho salmon runs occur in early August and early October. The September run is favored by local anglers due to the larger size of the silver salmon. The sockeye salmon runs are in late-June and mid-July-August. Sockeyes are considered the premier salmon for eating, canning, and smoking.

The Space:
Steelhead can sleep up to six people with 2 bedrooms each with a queen bed and queen sofa bed in living room. The cabin has one bathroom with a large well lit tile shower and an on demand hot water heater which means you never run out of hot water. A complete kitchen has a refrigerator, gas range, microwave and cooking utensils for your use. The loft has an over stuffed chair and great view of living space as well as outdoors, great for reading a book or relaxing. Large windows and a wrap around deck opens the living space up to the outdoors giving this cabin a sense of bringing the outdoors inside. A Smart TV is available with access to free movies and news as well you can login using your Netflix or other On-demand services for viewing your favorite programs. FISHING ACCESS: although this property does not offer any private river access, there are two public access locations close by, Moose Meadows public docks is about 1/2 mile up the road as well as a boat launch about 200 yards from the property.

The Neighborhood:
This cabin is not located on the river, but there is a newly upgraded boat landing up river approximately 200 yards along with two public river accesses on Keystone Drive that are complete with walk ways and fish cleaning tables. The closest is Moose Meadows which is about a half mile away.

Tucked just five miles from the heart of Soldotna, this location feels worlds away. Surrounded by towering spruce and birch, with the sound of the Kenai River flowing nearby, it offers a rare balance of wild Alaskan beauty and quiet seclusion—yet with shops, dining, and conveniences only minutes down the road. It’s a place where eagles soar overhead, moose wander through the trees, and the midnight sun stretches across endless skies—all while keeping you close to everything Soldotna has to offer.

Getting Around:
While we presume you'll be driving to our destination there are all means of commercial transportation including a commercial airport in Kenai 25 miles away. There are several airplane operators that can bring you to more remote settings for bear watching, fishing, and site seeing.

Although the space is smaller because it is a cabin, the height of the ceilings and large windows throughout gave you a sense of wide-open spaces and roominess. Anywhere you sit within the space allows for a stunning view of the surrounding woods and wildlife. We did not get a chance to enjoy the additional amenities offered, because it was a quick business trip; however, we agreed this would not be the last time we stay at the Keystone Kozy Cabins! We are close to the heart of Soldotna! Just minutes from local shopping, attractions, and the Kenai River! Abundant wildlife sightings in our neighborhood. This place is great for a small group coming to stay, with two single beds (can be joined to form a king for those honeymooners!) and a sofa bed located in the living room, which makes it perfect for a small family. We also have a fully functional kitchen with all the tools needed to make a wonderful meal after a full day of fishing! A good sized full bathroom for those of us who like to soak after a long day. Everything you need and more is right here!

On your drive out and while hanging out, watch for bear/caribou/moose/wolf/coyotes/rabbits/squirrels and over 30 different species of birds seen on or very close to this property. You never know what you’ll see out here. Funny River is like no other! We love sharing our Alaskan home with you and glad you're going to stay awhile! No need to remove your shoes just come on in & take a load off.
