It is a 2-bedroom, 2-bath unit with a queen and twin bed in each bedroom. There are also 2 futons in the living area for additional guests, if needed. Up to two pets are permitted. Smoking is not permitted.

- "Brower cottage did not disappoint! The views from the living room are picture perfect, especially when sitting in the comfy chair and ottoman. All the furnishings were attractive and comfortable, including the beds. We enjoyed watching our favorite shows on TV and listening to my Pandora stations. The kitchen had all the cookware, utensils and dishes I needed to fix meals. The cottage was also well stocked with paper goods and cleaning supplies. I didn't have to buy anything! My grandsons came for a visit for a few days. They loved the bunk beds, playing on the dock and swimming. We did do some exploring in the area. . . the Outdoor Discovery Center, shopping in Holland and Saugatuck and visiting Windmill Island Gardens. The flowers everywhere were beautiful. Of course, being close to Crane's Restaurant and Pie Pantry, and their U-pick orchards was a real bonus. They have 30,000 trees! Anytime I had a question or concern the owner was quick to answer my messages and offer his help. I will definitely stay at Brower cottage again."

Large open kitchen with huge island counter, private outdoor in-ground heated pool (see house rules re: pool heat fees), outdoor hot tub (open year-round), 2 wood-burning indoor fireplaces, outdoor fire pit, dining seating for 18 (for both inside & outside), a library with marble surround faux fireplace & filled with books, variable zone volume controlled stereo/audio system with speakers throughout the interior & exterior, high speed wireless internet, and 2 55" large flat screen SMART TV's. You will find the finished basement to be a gaming paradise which features a pool & ping pong table, game table, stereo speakers, 55" flat screen SMART TV, and bar.

THE OUTDOOR SPACE:

On the 3-acre, beautifully landscaped property, you can choose from taking a dip in the large in-ground outdoor concrete heated swimming pool (see house rules re: pool heat fees) , soaking in the six-person hot tub (open year-round), lounging around the pool deck, grilling out on our gas grill (propane provided) and dining al fresco - all within the complete privacy of the 6-foot cedar fence. There are plenty of pool chairs, rafts, noodles and both traditional and 'zero-gravity' pool loungers. Beyond the fence, an additional acre of trees and lawn includes a large pea gravel fire pit with adirondack chairs for bonfires, a hammock, and plenty of space for lawn games.

THE BEDROOMS:

The PRIMARY SUITE, located on the main/ground floor, sleeps 2 on its king bed. It has a beautiful pool/backyard view and french doors leading out to the patio. There is also a large en-suite primary bath with walk-in shower, large soaking bathtub, and marble vanity. The room has a very large walk-in closet, ceiling fan, and is furnished with 2 bedside tables with reading lamps.

The LIBRARY BEDROOM, located on the main/ground floor, sleeps 2 on its queen sleeper sofa with upgraded memory foam mattress. It has a view of the front yard, gorgeous custom mahogany bookshelves filled with books and molding/trim, it's own french doors with privacy blinds, a closet, writing desk & chair, large upholstered reading chair, and marble surround faux fireplace (non-functional).

The NORTH UPSTAIRS BEDROOM sleeps 2 on its bed with queen mattress. It is equipped with remote controlled ceiling fans and lighting, large closets, bedside tables with reading lamps, and sitting chair. There is also an additional large closet/room with its own door which includes a reading light and small wood crib ideal for 1 infant. There is enough room in this closet to move around even with the crib and a chair.

The UPSTAIRS BUNK BED ROOM sleeps 2 on its twin bunk bed (1 upper twin mattress & 1 lower twin mattress), fan, bedside table, closet, and reading light.

The SOUTH UPSTAIRS BEDROOM sleeps 2, and is similar to the north upstairs bedroom. It has all of the same features, with the exception of the additional closet with crib, but is a bit larger.

The BASEMENT BEDROOM sleeps 4 on its queen size mattress and twin bunk bed (1 upper twin mattress & 1 lower twin mattress). This room is a "partially finished" room located in the basement. It features vinyl tile flooring, a very bright/fun aqua blue and white painted walls, exposed ceiling, and a vintage midcentury aqua blue cabinet & counter convenient for unpacking your personal effects. It also features a bedside table, closet, reading light, and it's own working pedestal sink.

The OTHER SLEEPING AREAS include a queen sleeper sofa with upgraded memory foam mattress in the front living room located on 1st floor of the house (the gray sofa pictured in the living room picture) & a queen sleeper sofa with upgraded memory foam mattress located in the main basement area between the 2 red chairs pictured in the basement photo.

THE 3 BATHROOMS:

The PRIMARY BATH, described above, is part if the primary suite. There is also a powder room on the ground floor, which features a walk-in shower, vanity/sink, & toilet. There is also a large bathroom upstairs with a shower/tub with shower curtain, large tiled counter vanity/sink, and toilet, & lots of storage cabinets.

THE KITCHEN & DINING:

The spacious fully-equipped kitchen (including granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances, and range & oven & hood) will make cooking and entertaining a pleasure. Dining options include seating for 6 in the formal dining room, seating for up to 12 at harvest table (handcrafted from reclaimed barn wood) in the eat-in kitchen/great room, seating for 10 at table under the outdoor pergola, or casual dining for 6 (with umbrella) on pool deck, or at the at one of the many bistro tables around pool deck.

THE GREAT ROOM:

This room is open to kitchen & dining areas, & features a large sofa sectional with a coffee table (with storage), large flat screen SMART TV, and stereo with speakers. Also has large brick wood-burning fireplace.

The home is accessed by a keyless entry. There is an exterior security camera which guests can unplug upon their arrival.

We reside in a home to the rear of the property, through the woods. But you are completely private.

This house offers the cozy feel of home, the beauty of the woods, the view of Lake Michigan at the end of the lane, and beach access a short bike ride or walk away (Pier Cove beach is about a mile down the road. Several other Beaches are a short drive away...Oval Beach, Glenn Beach, Douglas Beach and West Side County Park).

The house is best suited for couples, or 6 people total. We have a pull out sofa as well. Please do not bring extra guests without proper notification. The house is prepared for the number booked. Extra charges may apply.

Pets are welcome. Be advised we have no fence, and are in the woods. Please be assured of your Pets' manners in the home. Extra cleaning charge for pets is assessed.

It is located just one quarter of a mile (5 minute walk) to the center of the quaint yet up-and-coming town of Fennville, complete with local restaurants, great independent coffee shop, antique shop, art gallery, grocery store, and pharmacy. Although you may never want to venture out, there is an incredible array of things to do in the area. Allegan County includes the towns of Saugatuck, Douglas, and Fennville – a community often referred to as the 'Art Coast of Michigan' because of its thriving arts scene including galleries, antique shops, studios, museums, and live theater. The property is just 10-15 minutes from downtown Saugatuck, Douglas, & the Lake Michigan beaches.

THE HOUSE:

Originally built in 1943, the stately brick mansion was once The Fennville Hospitality House Bed & Breakfast. Several original architectural details were preserved during the recent 2016 renovation including wall vents that use the heat from the 2 fireplaces to warm some of the interior rooms and an indoor “doorbell” located in the kitchen used to call guests (or your friends & family) to meal time. You will find that this property offers every amenity one could desire from a vacation rental, and much more. This gorgeous 4,200 square foot house was tastefully re-decorated with an eclectic blend of rustic antiques, contemporary, and midcentury modern furniture. The house features hardwood floors throughout the home, dual-zone central A/C (separate A/C upstairs to keep things cool in the summer), and many interesting dimmable light fixtures. An entertainer's dream, ALLEGAN FIELDS boasts 2 wood-burning fireplaces, a den with backyard & pool views, stereo system with speakers in the basement and throughout the main floor of the home, high speed wireless internet, and two 55” LED flat-screen SMART TV's. The partially-finished spacious basement features a miniature pool table (6' - smaller than tournament regulation size) ping pong table, 55" SMART TV, wood-burning fireplace, sleeping accommodations, and full bathroom.

THE OUTDOOR SPACE:

On the .6-acre, beautifully landscaped property, you can choose from taking a dip in the in-ground concrete heated swimming pool (see house rules re: pool heat fees), soaking in the 8 person hot tub (open year-round), lounging around the pool deck, swinging on the porch swing, grilling out on our gas grill (propane provided) and dining al fresco at one of 2 outdoor dining tables - all within the privacy of the 6-foot cedar fence. There are plenty of pool chairs, rafts, noodles and both traditional and 'zero-gravity' pool loungers. Beyond the fence, vast corn fields (which inspired the name of the property) complete the view, along with an additional stretch of lawn, perfect for lawn games. You’ll also enjoy a fire pit surrounded by adirondack chairs, perfect for bonfires and s’mores.

THE 5 UPSTAIRS BEDROOMS:

The PRIMARY SUITE sleeps 2 on its king bed. It features a large in-suite primary bath with walk-in shower, large soaking bathtub, and seated makeup vanity. The room has a huge walk-in closet, remote-controlled dimmable ceiling fan/light, and is furnished with 2 bedside tables with reading lamps and sitting chair.

BEDROOMS 2 & 3 both sleep 2, each with queen beds, remote-controlled dimmable ceiling fan/light, bedside tables with reading lamps, and sitting chair.

BEDROOMS 4 & 5 are nearly identical to bedrooms 2 & 3, except that in addition to the queen beds, they each also include twin bunkbeds. So these rooms each sleep 4.

THE DEN/BEDROOM:, located on the ground floor, sleeps 2 on its queen sleeper sofa with upgraded memory foam mattress. It has its own French doors with privacy blinds, and a writing desk & chair.

THE LIVING ROOM SLEEPING AREA sleeps 2 on a queen sleeper sofa with upgraded memory foam mattress in the living room located on the main level of the house.

THE BASEMENT SLEEPING AREA sleeps 6 on a queen sleeper sofa with upgraded memory foam mattress, a queen bed, and twin bunkbeds.

THE 6 BATHROOMS:

The primary bath, described above, is part of the primary suite. There are also 2 other full bathrooms upstairs with showers. There is also a full bathroom with shower in the basement. Finally, there are also two powder rooms on the main level.

THE KITCHEN & DINING:

The spacious fully-equipped kitchen, which includes quartz counter tops and stainless steel appliances, will make cooking and entertaining a pleasure. Dining options include seating for 6 in the eat-in kitchen area, with Eames midcentury modern chairs surrounding a white Saarinen tulip dining table.

THE DINING ROOM:

The formal dining room, just off the kitchen, looks out to the backyard/pool area and seats 18 people at the custom-designed dining table handcrafted from reclaimed wood.

THE LIVING ROOM:

This room features a sectional sofa and a queen sleeper sofa which face the wood-burning fireplace and 55” LED flat-screen SMART TV. Custom built-in cabinets house the stereo with bookshelf speakers. There is also a built-in cubby to store your firewood.

- "Grandchildren and great-grand-children came to attend the funeral/burial of their 101 year old grandmother. She was ready to go to heaven so it was a celebration. Cousins coming from different states were able to renew their friendship while sharing how she has impacted their lives. It was a very special time." - "The property is spacious and clean. We had a group of 16 people - half parents and young adults (mid 20s). The space accommodated us perfectly. The basement with the ping pong table and sleep area for six was perfect for the young adults to have their space. The dining room table was just awesome - was great to be able to all sit down to a meal. What sold me on the property were the bedrooms and six bathrooms - four had showers! The bathrooms are stocked with towels, toilet paper, and bath products: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hand soaps. The only thing I found missing was Kleenex. The kitchen was clean and very well equipped - most needed appliances we there. It was great to have access to real dishes, glassware, and silverware - there was an abundance of each. Due to the weather, we were limited in using the outdoor space, which looked very nice. A few of us used the hot tub and enjoyed a nice evening soak. Pool towels were available for our use. The garage was spacious - accommodated two SUVs. And plenty of angle parking in the driveway for four additional cars. The only thing we struggled with was the TV as the owners accounts were logged off previously. Overall, an excellent stay with family and friends! Definitely in my repeat list."

SECURITY CAMERAS
There are two security cameras facing the driveway/entry and barn exterior. No cameras in house or backyard, deck or hot tub area. Cameras are not monitored during guests stay, they are for security when properly is not in use.

MOSQUITO TREATMENT
Every 3 weeks on weekdays between 10am and 3pm. 10 minutes. They will knock on door and ask to close windows and stay in house during treatment

Walk on the paths and sit by the pond and feed the koi fish.In the winter you can enjoy snowshoeing and cross country skiing or travel 30 min to Bittersweet resort for downhill skiing. You will be in a central location for several breweries and wineries and farm to table restaurants. Pick apples, blueberries, raspberries, peaches, nectarines when in season at Cranes Orchards.You can add to the list of visiting several local galleries. We live on the property year round in the main home, the carriage house is very private from the main house. When leaves are in foliage you can not see the main house. You may see us during your visit doing chores down in the barn. We do are best to keep the hot tub serviced and running however we can not guarantee 100% that it will be running during your visit.

COVID-19 MEASURES FOR CLIENT SAFETY. We hope that you and your dear ones are all safe and well. Given the pandemic and all that is going on, we want guests to know about the measures and steps we will be taking to provide a safe and secure home away from home.
* We expanded cleaning protocols to encompass the CDC guidelines and recommendations for cleaning (very thorough)
* We also use use an ozone generator to sterilize all rooms in the cottage between guests.
* Finally, based on the latest evidence, we plan to leave the cottage empty for two days prior to when guests arrive.
* Given the uncertainty of these times, we will use VRBO's more lenient plan for reimbursement of deposits in case you need to cancel.

Rustic and charming cottage right on Lake Michigan. Sunsets in the evening, stargazing at night. Fires on the bluff. Bike riding through the orchards and around the country roads.
If you prefer rustic, remote, and quiet, this is your place for respite.

The cottage comes with million-dollar views although this is not a million-dollar cottage. This is an old fashioned cottage, not a posh condo. There are no TVs, although there is now Internet. One sometimes has to walk 100 yards up the road to get cell phone connectivity.
When our boys were teenagers, they loved their social media and Internet-based games. When they came to the cottage, however, they ended up being outside all day and reading books in the evening. Many of our guests have written to say how pleased they were to see their own children being immersed in books, rather than screens.

Although the location is remote, the twin-towns of Saugatuck and Douglas are only 8 miles to the North and South Haven is 10 miles to the South. In these towns, there are fantastic restaurants, dozens of art galleries, charter boating, film festivals, crowded beaches (if you prefer that kind of thing) and so much more.

The Wau-ke-na nature preserve is also close and provides a great place to hike in the forests when one needs a break from all the sun and beach. A few tents are available at the cottage. These are wonderful for camping on the beach up or on the bluff. Sometimes it's fun just to set up a tent for children to play in.

If you like wine tasting or cider tasting, there are plenty of vineyards and a few open wine cellars where you can sample the products. Closest to the cottage are Modales Vineyard, Fenn Valley Wine Cellar, and Virtue Cider.

The cottage has a binder with information and descriptions of many of the local attractions. We enjoy them all but--most of all-- the cottage is about respite and doing little or nothing.

The mission of the Rustic Respite cottage includes a commitment to protecting the environment and becoming a carbon-neutral property by 2025. Guests will be expected to sort cans, bottles, and paper products for recycling and they are also expected to use the compost bin for kitchen scraps.

At first when arrived was worried about the no air conditioning it was so hot inside but once we opened all windows and found all the fans we didn’t notice there was no air conditioning. The only thing was the lake access is not clearly marked and it’s awkward. It’s a small piece of lawn squeezed in between other houses with other peoples boats and tables on it and when you arrive at the water there is no place it’s all covered with boats and docks of the other residents So if you wanted to sit there you feel like sitting In Someone else’s backyard and if you want to swim or get your boat in water you have to go in between and around all the docks and boats. So not really usable in my opinion. I would still definitely stay there again"

This is an original motel style apartment building.
Built in the 1950's as a truck stop diner and motel.
Based on availability you can rent one apartment or all six.
Each apartment has one bedroom, one full size bathroom, with an open concept living room and kitchen.
Since my purchase of the property in 2017 I have done extensive renovations to the building and improvements to the grounds.
This unit is furnished with a queen size bed, night stands, full size couch, arm chair, dresser, full size refrigerator, apartment size stove, bistro table and chairs, coffee, maker, toaster, and kitchen ware.
Close to beaches, wineries, restaurant, and breweries.
Free wi-fi and basic cable tv.
Guest are greeted upon arrival.
There is a two night minimum.
Maximum of two adults per apartment.

Clean and a good size for a group of 4 Should know the owners live at the property so if you are looking for total privacy that may not always be the case during the summer months." - "Everything about our stay was excellent. The rental was very cute with great art everywhere. The 9 minute drive into Saugatuck is very easy and you pass a farm stand, Saugatuck Brewing, and other great stops along the way. The owner Don was awesome to talk to and offered great suggestions around town. I wish we could have chatted with Don more, but he was very conscious to give us privacy. The only difficult part of the location is the 65 stairs to the beach, but we have an infant with us and were able to have fun with that too. We would love to stay here again!"
