The cabin is just a five minute walk to a lake where you can swim, fish (catch and release-permit required), kayak or canoe (boats, paddles and life jackets provided). Or spend the day exploring the many surrounding towns with antiques, restaurants and shopping galore; take a drive down a country road looking for roadside farm stands; go for a long walk in the woods; or explore the nearby rock quarry (the app AllTrails is a must have for this!). At night, have dinner at an outdoor restaurant, grill on the deck, relax with a glass of wine on the porch, roast marshmallows, do a puzzle, or enjoy your favorite streaming on our Roku TV with Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and more. The house has one large main room with living and kitchen areas, and two small bedrooms.
The larger room has a queen bed with a comfy mattress and luxurious linens. The smaller bedroom has a full-size bed and narrow twin upper bunk (for children only). There is a cozy screened-in front porch with lounge furniture and fan, and a back deck with gas grill and seating for four. Between the natural setting and nearby cultural and outdoor attractions, you're sure to find plenty to do here to relax and have fun at a safe distance from others.

The Windy Top Cottage is an old stone building constructed in 1932 by H. L. Bitter, a wealthy Hartford businessman. This area of Granby was a favorite of the Hartford elite for a place to “summer” in the early part of the 20th Century. The cottage was the place where the domestic staff stayed when the family was staying in North Granby. With an elevation of 970, the home once had views of Hartford. Today after lots of trees grew, views are still just a minute away and the cool breezes remain!

Dawn and Ken have refreshed the interior with newly sanded "pumpkin pine" floors and warm, decorator wall tones. There is over 1000 of living space. The bath fixtures are original from the 30s and the huge stone fireplace has propane fired gas logs for cozy winter nights. The large first-floor great room also has a small coffee service, there is NO KITCHEN and we are NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN.

The second-floor bedrooms are spacious and yet very cozy. The home has an English Country House feel with all furnishings provided by Dawn’s painted furniture business: A Girl With A Paintbrush. Flower boxes adorn several windows that overlook an herb and flower garden. The property is accessed by original brick walkways and lead to the private entry door.

Guests will be able to use the entire building with the exception of the garage bays for their private use. A private exterior patio is located out the back door with old patio chairs, benches, and a firepit.

Amenities include freshly laundered soft cotton bedding and towels, bathrobes, hypoallergenic or goose down pillows, cozy sofas, and chairs, comfortable carpeting, and rugs. The linen closet has an ample supply of bar soaps, shampoos, a hair dryer and a first aid box.

The spaces are accessorized with old framed artwork, mirrors, clocks and folk art. We offer a quiet, relaxing experience without TV, with old books, old magazines, and games to enjoy a special time with friends or loved ones. Excellent wireless service to keep tabs on the world if you need to.

The coffee service provides a toaster oven, a French press and a Keurig single cup coffee maker with fresh cream and organic sugar.

Our goal is to greet you and then leave you to enjoy the cottage and all the surrounding amenities and beauty at your leisure. We live in the main house so we are always available by text or cell phone.

One of the best parts of a Berkshires getaway is sharing a meal with friends or family, and our contemporary kitchen has everything you’ll need to whip up a gourmet feast.

The sleek stainless steel appliances include a gas stove with a hood, oven, full-size fridge and freezer with a water and ice dispenser, microwave, and dishwasher.

Because we want your mornings to be as enjoyable as possible, we provide a coffee maker and a toaster, plus a blender in case you’re in the mood for a smoothie. We’ve also stocked the cool blue cabinets with cookware, dishes, and glassware.

When it’s time to eat, everybody can pull up a seat at the dining table, which can seat 6 to 8. If the weather’s nice, we also recommend eating outside on the back deck, where you can listen to birds chirping over breakfast.

Although outdoor activities like skiing and snowshoeing might bring you to the Berkshires, the cozy times with loved ones by the fireplace will make you want to come back year after year.

In our living room, you can enjoy gorgeous natural light during the day and a relaxing atmosphere in the evening. Kick back and relax on the couch, stream your favorite shows on the smart TV, or just chat with your travel companions over a glass of wine. The gas fireplace is controlled with a switch, so you can be cozy-warm in no time!

In addition to the main living room, there’s a small sitting area in the upstairs loft.

One of our favorite parts of our cottage isn’t even inside, but outside. Set right off the kitchen and living room is an expansive back deck with a barbecue grill, an outdoor dining table, and adirondack chairs with a gorgeous view of the trees. In the winter, once the trees have lost their leaves, you can also admire lake views from the desk.

Beneath the desk is our spacious, grassy backyard that contains ample space for the kids to run around and play. In the evening, you’ll love winding down by the fire pit, which is perfect for roasting s’mores. Stay out after the sun sets for spectacular views of the starry sky.

--ESSENTIALS--
The entire home is equipped with heat and WiFi, so you’ll always be comfortable and connected. Please note there is AC in the main living space and nearly every room (including both bedrooms) has a ceiling fan, which keeps the house cool during the summer.

We’ve taken care to furnish our cottage with luxurious vinyl floors, stylish barn doors, and thoughtful decor, so we thank you in advance for treating it with respect.

Traveling with little ones? We can provide a portable crib, inflatable toddler bed, baby seat with tray, and a changing pad upon request.

Parking is available in the driveway, which can accommodate a couple of cars.

We used the kitchen a lot and the bar height table works well for meals as well as several great spaces outside. Lilacs and irises were blooming while we were there - lovely when we had a couple of family members come over for drinks outside. Also enjoyed the game table and great TV setup in the evening. The lake community is friendly and there are some unique finds for food, eat-in and takeout, that are close by. We made the right choice for our stay and would love to come again!"

The kid had fun exploring all the nooks and crannies in the house because the layout is so special. One thing to note for people with mobiity issues. The bedrooms are not on the same floor as the bathroom, so you either have to go down a ladder or up a few steps in the middle of the night. It was not an issue for us though. We loved the place and would recommend it. "

This cottage sleeps 6 comfortably with 2 bedrooms, one with a double bed, one with a queen bed and a loft with two single beds. The loft is accessible by a ladder. There is a large spacious living room with a wood stove to enjoy on a cool night if you are not having a fire on the beach in the fire pit. It also has a large spacious kitchen and dining area.
This cottage is rustic with imperfections and is completely furnished. Heat source is a wood stove and wood is provided.
If you are not relaxing on the deck you can sit on our privately owned beach area and relax by the waters edge. There are beach chairs to use, a dock to sit on and a raft to swim to.
This cottage sits in a little cove and is ideal for young children because the water is shallow near the dock and they can walk out about 50 feet before it starts getting deep.
The lake is clean and ideal for swimming, fishing, kayaking, boating, windsurfing and so much more.

- "The place was exactly what we were looking for. The owners were very attentive to what we needed and extremely friendly. We also met some very nice neighbors, Mike and Cathy. Our dog Tia, even made a new friend with their dog Finnigan. They bounced around together, all week long. We would love to go back but the owner's dogs were not as friendly to our dog, as we would have liked them to be. The owner did take them home for the majority of the week which eliminated the concern. When they were there I was continously worrying about the dogs interactions. Other then that, it was a beautiful week. Thank you Chris , Mike, Cathy, and Deb for the great time."

Our second time staying here, and we will be back." - "The most amazing thing happened during our 10-day stay at Doug's cottage: we relaxed. There were no lists and no schedules; we even managed to completely forget a performance at Jacob's Pillow. That never happens with us; friends have said we "take trips, not vacations". I attribute it all to the almost magical nature of Doug's home. The property is immaculately clean and well-maintained, as well as beautifully appointed. Comfortable places inside and outside the house invite you to sit and enjoy the expansive views. We relished the peacefulness of the area, compared to Great Barrington, Lenox, et al. Though Sandisfield is a little farther south and east of where we usually stay, it is still convenient to all attractions. Swimming and kayaking are just a short stroll down the road at gorgeous (and virtually deserted) West Lake. Although the house is not air-conditioned, the cross-ventilation is excellent and there was almost always a breeze. We were there during a heatwave, daytime temps well into the 90's, yet evenings were cool and comfortable. Doug is a kind, thoughtful and generous host. If he ever considers selling his property (and he shouldn't!) I hope he contacts us first."

Within 1-6 miles in either direction from the center of Otis, you have The Farmington River Restaurant that serves a great breakfast and more, the Grouse House restaurant for dinner, and just a little further down the road the Otis Poultry farm for fresh eggs, homemade chicken pies, goods made from local artists, and lots more including local souvenirs.

This special home was built in 1830 as a component to a mill circa 1766, the waterfall and waterwheel processed lumber to build area homes and businesses. Our home is set on a safe, quiet side street, within walking distance to the General Store, nature trails, the town recreation area, and the historic society. It is quiet here, charming, and laid back. Drift off to sleep with the sound of the waterfall. Venture out to the vegetable and herb garden and forage for tonight's dinner. For example, the staircase is very steep and the landings of the steps are shallow. My elderly, but still otherwise mobile, father in law had a. Wry difficult time with them. This was mostly fine because there is a bedroom on the ground floor, but the only shower is upstairs. This wouldn’t stop me from returning to this lovely property, just something to consider depending on the make up of your group. We’ll be back!"

If you have kids, you’ll enjoy relaxing in a baby- and toddler-proofed space tested by our 15 month old (head first).

If you like to cook, you’ll enjoy having access to a variety of spices, high quality cooking oils, and good knives. (And if you don’t like to cook, your dining options are just a short walk away!)

If you’re coming for a work retreat we hope you enjoy the sit-to-stand desks, monitors, and river views from TWO dedicated work spaces.

Our home isn’t perfect: Much of it hasn’t been updated since the 60s. While you may find some of the dated decor charming (The big spoon! The chickens!) , please forgive a few corners of peeling wall paper and stained sinks that show their age.

You will have our whole home to yourself, but a few areas are closed off.

The basement (accessible through the kitchen) is where our washer and dryer are. You are welcome to use the washer/dryer! However, the rest of the basement is off limits.

The upstairs has a second bathroom and a spacious bedroom which are available to you. There are two other rooms on the second floor are locked and not available for guest use.

- "The property was nice, the wildlife and river were beautiful, we saw a blackbear in the yard within 10 minutes of being there. The biggest suggestion we have for the owner is that there were no curtains in the living room which led to feeling as though we didnt have a lot of privacy. Also, there should really be an added air conditioner in the living room for comfort, it was really hot in the living room and dining room. There was also no wash cloths which was a little odd to us. The cottage was cute and roomy, but the bunkbeds were in the master bedroom with our bed. Not a big deal since there were 2 other bedrooms but our twins were looking forward to the bunkbeds and the pics didnt lead on that they were in the same room. The river again was awesome and all the wildlife we saw in or around the river. It was very peaceful sitting outside listening to the river, that was one of my faves every morning with my coffee. It was a nice area."

The Main Cabin:
A cozy and quaint home with two sitting areas, a full kitchen, full bathroom, washer/dryer, one bedroom with a queen bed, and covered porch area with a single bed option. The cabin features an indoor large shower and a private outdoor shower ( especially wonderful at night under the stars and the moon ) and a front-yard fire pit, grill, and a peaceful eating area for al fresco dining under the trees.

The Studio (separate from the cabin):
This airy space has a queen bed, high ceilings, white pine paneling and a flexible open layout, perfect as a private bedroom, living space, or creative gathering area. Outside, enjoy a private deck with patio furniture and solar-powered fairy lights for magical evenings.

Both spaces are nestled into lush plantings and natural surroundings, creating an enchanting backdrop for your stay. Whether you’re planning a romantic weekend, a solo retreat, or a peaceful getaway with loved ones, Butterfly Bungalow offers a unique and restful home base.

-Please do not use the wood stoves in the summer.

Important Information About Bathroom Access from the Studio:

The studio does not have an attached bathroom. Please use the flashlights provided next to the front door (on the right) to follow the solar-lit path to the right of the main cabin. This path leads around to the back door, where you can access the bathroom. You may also enter through the main cabin’s front door if you prefer.

Parking Guidelines:

Please exercise caution when parking.

To turn around on the driveway, it's preferable to use the lawn reflectors as a guide to back your vehicle up, rather than reversing all the way down the driveway.

Kindly limit parking to two cars in the driveway.

Please use care when walking the property and surrounding gardens so as not to disrupt perennial flowers and delicate plants.

The main floor boasts an open-concept living, dining, and fully stocked kitchen area—perfect for entertaining. It also includes a full bathroom. One of the three bedrooms has an attached full bath, while the other two have private half baths.

The lower level offers a TV/games room with a pool table and foosball table, plus an additional half bath with an infrared sauna. Step outside to the spacious deck, where you’ll find an outdoor fireplace, gas grill, seating area, and dining table. Just a few steps away, a hot tub nestled among the trees awaits.

Second House: 235 Algerie Rd

Experience the charm of this 3-BR cabin in Becket, MA, a cozy and welcoming retreat surrounded by nature. Featuring three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a warm living room with a stone fireplace, this home offers comfort in every corner. Step onto the outdoor deck, complete with a fireplace, for unforgettable evenings under the stars.

Upon arrival, guests are welcomed into an inviting family room, dining area, and kitchen with a stone hearth and fireplace. The main floor also includes a full bathroom and a bedroom with a double Murphy bed, offering flexible space for yoga or play.

Upstairs, the primary bedroom features a king bed, a private fireplace, and an adjoining laundry area. The third bedroom is the most versatile, with a double bed, a twin bed, and a bunk bed featuring a double futon below and a twin above, perfect for accommodating everyone.

Wildlife: This is a home in a rural part of the country. You may see wildlife including deer, coyotes, foxes, and bears. Please be mindful of your surroundings and leaving out food and trash.

Weather: In the winter, there will be snow, ice, and occasional snowstorms. We recommend driving a vehicle with AWD or 4WD. Please drive with caution and be prepared with regards to the ability of your vehicle to drive in the snow.

Power & Internet: This is a rural part of the country. Although the power goes out very rarely, you may lose power or internet during inclement weather. We do not issue refunds for loss of power or internet out of our control.

Air Conditioning and Heating: AC availability is seasonal and depending on weather (late spring and summer). Heating is also seasonal, and depending on weather, available during the cold seasons (autumn-winter).

Hot Tub: The hot tub at the 235 Algerie Rd cabin is currently unavailable for use. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

Pets: Cats are not allowed on the property. Dogs are allowed on the property. The following charges will apply: $150 plus tax for the first pet and $50 plus tax for each additional pet.

Please mind that the maximum occupancy at this house is 16 guests.
