Our changeover day from April to September is a Friday - this needs to be the check in and check out day for a 7 night stay and the check out day on 5-6 night stays. Please also note that we have a no pets policy.
Fioran is a modern 5 bedroom house overlooking Seilebost beach on the spectacular west coast of Harris in the Outer Hebrides (Western Isles) off the west coast of Scotland. The house is easily accessed from the A859, which is the main road running north/south on the island. It is about 10 miles from Tarbert and the ferry to Uig in Skye, 50 miles from Stornoway, the airport and the ferry to Ullapool.
There is ample parking at the front plus a disabled ramp to the side, from which there is level access through the ground floor of the house.
The beach can be accessed via a gate at the back of the house.
The house can sleep up to 10 in 5 bedrooms. There are two king bedrooms (both with ensuite shower rooms), two twin bedrooms (one with ensuite shower room), a family bathroom and laundry room on the first floor. On the ground floor there is a double bedroom with ensuite shower room, which is suitable for disabled use if needed.
There is ample living space on the ground floor, with a large sitting/dining area with Sky tv including sport and movies, a DVD player (please bring your own dvds if you wish to use this) and sound bar. Double doors lead onto the conservatory, again with comfortable seating area and panoramic views across of Seilebost beach and across to Luskentyre. The views are wonderful in any weather and at any time of day - even the sunset can be enjoyed from that position.
The kitchen and pantry are behind the dining area and is very well-equipped with two ovens, an induction hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle and Nespresso coffee machine (a complimentary tube of pods will be provided but if you are coffee lovers you may want to bring your own). Tesco will deliver groceries to Harris if you would like to book this online in advance. Please be warned that on Sundays almost everything on the island is closed though you would be able to eat out at several nearby restaurants.
There is an outside seating area overlooking the beach plus a separate studio with a pool table, darts board, seating and drinks fridge. Please note that the outside seating area is wheelchair accessible but the games room is not.
A car is essential. If planning to arrive by ferry it is advisable to book your travel at the same time as your accommodation as it can get busy, especially from April until September.
Changeover day: Friday
Nearby:
There are shops, restaurants and other facilities at Tarbert (10 miles). You will also find the Harris distillery, which is producing a delicious gin that is proving very popular. They have a good cafe and run tours. Right next door is the Harris Tweed Company, which is well worth a visit. Out of Tarbert, the Golden Road will take you round the east of Harris, where the land falls steeply to the sea, there are gorgeous views to take in and art galleries to visit.
Seilebost is to the west of Tarbert and beyond Seilebost you will come to Horgabost (1.4 miles), where you'll find The Machair Kitchen restaurant. The Harris Golf Club (5 miles) is a links course and welcomes visitors. Scarista House is just beyond that and is a well-known local hotel with a restaurant, at which non-residents can book a table. At Leverburgh (10.5 miles) there is The Anchorage restaurant overlooking the water. Further afield are the famous Callanish stones, where you'll also find a visitor centre and cafe.
- "Wonderful house, very well equipped ........even wellies !!!!!!! In an amazing location to see the rest of the island and beyond." - "What a great house, what a great location. The owners have provided everything to help make a holiday relaxing and enjoyable. Ok so it didn’t quite extend to the weather. Situated almost midway between Tarbert and Leverborough, so planning of food and provisions is essential. Every room in the house is spacious, clean and the kitchen is very well equipped. The house has 4 fridges (2 fridge/freezers). It’s perfect for the larger group to stay. You don’t get under each other’s feet as there is so much space. Anyone with mobility issues there is easy access via a ramp via the sun room and there is a downstairs bedroom with an en suite wet room. Brilliant for my very elderly parents. The sun lounge to the side is perfect to watch the sun go down each evening (as long as the Harris weather allows) and when it doesn’t there is a games room (with a beer fridge) with a pool table and darts. There’s easy access down to the bay and at low tide, those with energy can walk across to Luskentyre. Just down the road there’s a new business just opened anyone wishing to go on a guided kayaking tour of the many bays. Sorry I don’t have details. But his house is the first on the left toward Horgabost from Fioran (can be seen from the sun lounge). All in all an excellent house and Rana (the owner) ensured everything was done to make the stay stress free. "

Its spotless, spacious and extremely well equipped. The location was perfect, close enough to visit everything we wanted to. - "First time on Harris and Lewis and really enjoyed the house. It has its quirks (first holiday home ever with an over abundance of storage!) but was spacious and spotless. Had to reset the heating on the first night due to no hot water (the island suffered a total blackout the night before and knocked it out) but the hostess replied immediately and the problem was solved in minutes which was a huge plus. Recommended for anyone visiting the area"

Tigh Mairi is perfectly located for exploring the Isle of Harris and the islands of the Outer Hebrides.. 1 step to entrance.

Private parking for 2 cars. No smoking. Please note: There are a few steep, stone steps into the lower part of the garden and access is via a steep track. This property has a security deposit of £150.. Tigh Mairi is a well-equipped and comfortable detached house that has had a new shower and two new double beds added for 2023 and a new cooker in 2024. This traditional style croft house is in an elevated position and offers the most breathtaking views over the island of Scalpay. It is accessed by a steep track with a cattle grid.
Some points to note are that this property is not one of the more modern refurbished properties that are available on the island, should you prefer that. Please see the photos for a representation. Please note that there is no dishwasher. Due to the location, the phone signal is quite weak inside the house, but there is a landline you can use for emergencies. You do have Wifi, but commonly the broadband speed in the area is a bit slow, although you might welcome an "off-grid holiday". The house has heaters and an open fire, but is not centrally heated, so you might also want to bear that in mind if you feel the cold easily.
In Tarbert, 4 miles away, you will find a grocery shop, post office, places to eat, 2 pubs, the Harris Tweed Shop and the very popular Harris Gin Distillery. Harris has a wide range of landscapes, all of which have their own charm and interest. On the west coast lie some of the most spectacular beaches with large open machair areas.
In the north, the terrain is rugged, mountainous and has a lunar feel to it, with the exposed rocks being a result of glacial erosion from the Ice Ages. The area is known as ‘The Bays’ because of the many small, quiet inlets. Wildlife is abundant, a birdwatcher’s paradise, loch, sea angling and hill walking; The Clisham, the highest mountain in the Western Isles, is only a short drive from Tigh Mairi.
There are many art galleries, Harris Tweed weaving, boat trips to St. Kilda, and so much more. In general, the attraction of the Isle of Harris is its peace and tranquillity, the magnificent scenery and beaches and with the shoreline just 400 yards away, come, explore and enjoy. The spectacular beaches of South Harris are 14 miles away. Shop, pub and restaurant 4 miles.
Free WiFi
Access to the house is via a steep track (please use 1st gear).
Please leave the gate closed at all times so that sheep do not get in the garden.
There is limited internet signal and/or mobile reception at the property.

Built around the natural harbour, fishing and sailing continue to play an important part in the life of the village. There are many annual events to interest all tastes including the sailing regatta on Loch Fyne, seafood and music festivals. The 87 mile Kintyre Way stretches from Tarbert to the south of the Kintyre Peninsula, and offers walking for all levels and with ferry connections to Islay and Arran, there is simply no better location to relax and explore this rugged and picturesque part of Scotland.
