Taransay Cottage is a two bedroom detached single level chalet style house with captivating views out over the beaches and hills of Harris including the island of Taransay from which it took its name. It is available for 7 day bookings Saturday to Saturday throughout the year. There is 1 x Double bedroom and 1 x twin room (cot and folding bed also available) Bathroom with double shower (no bath, but facilities for bathing small children provided) well equipped kitchen leading through to a dinning room which also has 2 armchairs (which usually become the most popular seats in the house) from which you can take in the views over a cup of coffee. 'Cnoc an Dudain' (the hill of Dudain) is situated on the beautiful island of Berneray, 'the jewell in the crown' of the western isles. This stone and thatched cottage (or 'blackhouse' as they are known on the islands) was rescued as a ruin in 2008. We have carefully renovated, using traditional materials. The rooms have limewashed walls, exposed roof timbers and solid wood floors. There is an efficient multi-fuel stove in the living room, and with 1. 3m thick stone walls, this cottage is the cosiest place to be on a blustry Hebridian afternoon. The cottage lies 150 meters down it's own drive and has ample space for parking. The walled garden area leads down to a small beach, with the remains of an old harbour wall still visible at low tide. Those of you with a keen interest in history can discover the hand carved 'crusie stone' built into the garden wall. Berneray is rich in archaeological sites, with a stone circle, standing stone, Viking harbour and chairstone to name but a few. You will wake up to the sound of seabirds, especially Oyster catcher, Curlew and Turnstones. Seals are very common and in summer will swim close to the cottage after dusk. Otters can also be seen fishing in the lochan at the back of the cottage (during the renovation we had regular visits from an otter one winter and he left his footprints in the wet concrete floor). With such a lot to see and do on and around Berneray, we have made a concious decision not to provide a television. Please come to enjoy the views, watch the wildlife and tune in to the cycle of the tides.

Dun Eistein is a traditional family house in the crofting village of Northton in South Harris. The house is not on a croft but there is a small garden with picnic table, chairs and bench.

Harris is an island of contrasts in the Outer Hebrides and boasts some wonderful beaches. Although named the Isle of Harris, it is in fact the southern part of Lewis and Harris. The northern part of Harris is hilly, the east is rocky with numerous lovely bays and the south west is flatter with many fine beaches. Northton is a good base from which to explore the island and from which to visit some of the other islands.
The house is generally child friendly and games, books and dvds are available for your use. There is a small range of wellington boots (the sun doesn’t always shine!), buckets and spades in the porch.

Accommodation on the ground floor consists of a new, well equipped kitchen with electric range, washing machine, dishwasher, tumble drier, fridge freezer and microwave with dining room off. There is also a lounge, sitting room and shower room.

On the upper floor are two double bedrooms, one twin bedroom, one bunk bedroom and bathroom. Extra single folding bed available. Beds have continental quilts and all bed linen and towels are provided.

Oil central heating, which is included in the cost as well as electricity, ensures a warm, comfortable home.
There is no terrestrial TV reception but satellite is available. Wireless internet included.

Fantastic location for all the best beaches on South West Harris including several you can walk to. We especially enjoyed bbqs on the nearest beach and were blown away with second beach. Luskentyre and Seilebost were perfection and Becca gave great tips on staying safe on beaches and not attempting to walk between the two. Less than 10 mins to the shop in Leverburgh which had everything we needed and the staff were lovely. Regarding the house we found it to be a home from home. It’s not modern but very clean and the pictures don’t do it justice as it’s so much bigger with space for all. Kitchen is well stocked with lots of basics and brilliant cooker. Also outside when it’s sunny there is a wonderful stone built seating area with built in table that we really enjoyed and plenty of space for a van and car on the drive and to dry washing and hang wetsuits etc. The last thing to say is how safe the neighbourhood and all of Harris was and the local people were very welcoming. 5 stars from all of us"

- "Harris is such a beautiful place, and the house is just so immaculate, cosy and warm. We REALLY loved staying here. We did lots of local walks. The Butty Bus was a real treat. Fish and Chips and Cullen Skink on a Friday night, with a couple of beers from the tiny home based craft micro-brewery down the road last night. The co-op shop is wonderful and has everything you need from fresh food, spices to groceries."

There is so much to do from Berneray, you can go south to Benbecula and also to Eriskay and Barra, and sample the Gin at the Barra Gin distillery before returning to the lodge. Make sure to pack your beach things as there are so many beautiful white sands on the outer Hebrides for you to enjoy, it is really hard to say which one is the best! Moving north again, going further into Harris, through townships where the locals still tend the crofts, you can take your bikes, kayaks or canoes or just your walking shoes! As there is so much to do and see, you will feel that the week goes past very quickly, but still gives you enough time to plan your return visit.

- "We stayed for 2 weeks, whilst the rest of the country had a heat wave, we had a couple of nice days and the rest was misty and windy. However, the house exceeded our expectations being warm, comfortable and had everything you could need - really high quality furnishings etc. Fantastic views from the house and the patio area and walks from the doorstep. If you like beach walking (cant describe how beautiful they are) and wild life (otters, deer, seals etc) then this is an excellent choice, we love bird watching and couldn't have hoped to see more. The real advantage of staying at Lever Terrace is its location; You’re within walking distance of a pub/restaurant, a convenient shop and only a few minutes’ drive from the west coast, world renowned for its mesmerising white sandy beaches, particularly at Scarista and Luskentyre. The east coast is more sheltered, but is equally striking, trips to the Church of St Clements at Rodel and art galleries at Finsbay are both popular. Sea fishing is available nearby and there’s also fly fishing in the local lochs only a short walk away (enquire locally). Hill walking is also readily available with the most notable adventures being a visit to the ancient ruined temple along the coast and white sand beaches from Northton or the cross-Island pathway. For the more-hardy, a climb to the summit of Maodal where a small memorial commemorates the crash of an RAF Shackleton in 1990. The Isle of Harris Golf Club, a well renowned 9-hole links course is a must for a visiting golfer.

Another excellent feature of the cottage being located in Leverburgh is that it is within walking distance of the ferry terminal and harbour. You can hop over as a foot passenger or take your car across the Sound of Harris to Berneray, a fabulous island, which is connected by causeway to North Uist. You can actually explore beyond North Uist to the islands of Benbecula, South Uist and Eriskay all connected by road thanks to the causeway set-up. So, one ferry across from Leverburgh can set-up an excellent day-trip, or easy continuation of your Hebridean adventure.

You can also visit St. Kilda on a boat trip from Leverburgh. The now uninhabited small archipelago of islands far out to the west of the Outer Hebrides are notoriously difficult to reach. A UNESCO world heritage site, you can see what the weather is doing and if it looks good, go for the day trip and be one of the few that have made it to these special islands. The Isle of Lewis is to the north of Harris, and is actually connected, separated only by the high hills of north Harris. Lewis needs no introduction, if you’re in Leverburgh it is only a spectacular 40 minute drive away. Less than 5 minutes’ drive from the property is the well stocked local shop (closed Sunday), which also sells fuel. Also there is a licenced establishment which is a couple of minutes walk from the cottage which also serves food.

Nature enthusiasts, keen adventurers, and those who love taking to the water for some swimming or sea kayaking will find Laxdale Cottage to be the perfect base to enjoy all the above with everything in easy reach. This fabulous island is blessed with some of the world’s most renowned white sandy beaches with the spectacular Luskentyre around 20 minutes away, with the closest beach being the wonderful Scarista beach a few minutes away.

There are also many vast sandy beaches on the road between there and Laxdale Cottage. Please take care on the beaches, they look benign but some do have sinking sands and strong currents. The crystal clear, turquoise waters which surround the coastline backed by the stunning Harris Hills are a sight to behold, and nothing short of breath-taking in real life. Harris forms the lower end of the landmass joining to the Isle of Lewis and Harris. Between the two isles you will be spoilt with choice for places to visit, between incredible archaeological sites, numerous Harris tweed factories, art galleries, museums and much more.
