Visitors to this remote and peaceful Island will enjoy its spectacular scenery, beautiful beaches as well as our many historic sights such as the Callanais Standing Stones reputed to be older than Stonehenge and a well preserved Pictish broch and the Blackhouse village at Garenin. Sealoch Cottage is a traditional crofters cottage converted to a luxury holiday home for two people. It is totally private and located on its own terrace overlooking the magnificent Loch Odhairn. From the cottage you can see the length of the loch to the open sea and mainland beyond. Porpoise, otters, golden eagles and sea eagles are among the regular visitors.
The cottage is located in the beautiful and wild Lochs district of south west Lewis, not far from border with Harris , and just short drive from the beaches on the west of the islands, which regularly score in the top ten of the worlds best beaches!
The village of Gravir (Gaelic: Grabhair)is about 25 miles from Stornoway, and is a traditional old fishing community straddling the sea loch.
The terrain around the cottage is wild and majestic, ideal for hill walking, bird watching, fishing, or just chilling. You might simply prefer to relax on the terrace, watch the boats go past, or unwind in the sauna.
Sealoch cottage was completely restructed and refurbished in 2011, and in 2016 was fitted with a new kitchen.
There is free wifi.
- "Comfortable, loved the interior colours. Would suggest some of the kitchen china/cooking dishes added to and/or replaced as it seems a bit tired and minimal for use with a dishwasher. Still enjoyed ourselves, sorry weather not brilliant but that conservatory is SO lovely!" - "excellent cottage" - "Fabulous cottage in a perfect location for exploring both Lewis and Harris. Amazing wildlife outside your own window - we were really lucky with great weather except for one day and saw sea eagles (daily) golden eagles, kestrels and buzzards to name a few from the sun lounge. Nice to come back to some home comforts - including a sauna, after a day exploring the islands. Despite restrictions due to covid there is so much to see and do and we will without doubt be back! Loved every minute of it!"

Marie responded quickly to our questions, and her sister popped in twice to answer more questions. Overall, we four ladies highly recommended this holiday cottage. - "Host, Helen, met us at the cottage in Lacasaigh. Perfect location., and very peaceful after busy days touring the islands. Would recommend to friends considering visiting the Outer Hebrides." - "We have stayed in a number of VRBO listed properties all over the world and we both agree this was the best overall. It is a great combination of being very attractive, but also extremely comfortable. The furnishings and design were well planned so that everything functioned well. We expecially appreciated the availability of the operation manuals for alll the appliances so that we could make good use of them - the lack of these has made it difficult in other rental accommodations. Helen was a wonderful host who provided us with a through introduction to the property, but also was available for any inquiries we had during our stay. We are home now, but are still reflecting on how much we enjoyed our stay! Thank you so much, Helen!"

The property is in Garyvard (Gearraidh Bhaird), in the beautiful and wild South Lochs area of the Isle of Lewis. Our cosy two bedroom cottage is perched on the side of an inlet of Loch Eireasort, and is in a very rural and tranquil location. If you’re lucky you can spot seals, eagles, sea otters and red deer.
The cottage was built in the 1930s and has been restored to create a comfortable haven away from the wild weather of the Hebrides. Internally, it has recently been refreshed and also includes a multi-fuel stove. Externally, the garden area has also recently benefitted from some upgrading. There is an outdoor seating area. All in all, it provides a relaxing and calm place to stay.
Bedding and towels are provided. The kitchen is well equipped. The property has excellent WIFI, with a smart TV & DVD player. As of 08/10/2021 EPC rating was 15. Remedial works completed since with added multi-fuel stove and insulation to sitting room.
The property is located approximately 30 minutes drive from Tarbert on Harris, and 30 minutes drive from Stornoway on Lewis. You will need a car to fully benefit from your stay at this property. The nearest shop and vehicle fuel is 2 miles away at the Ravenspoint Visitor Centre; please note it is a small shop with limited stock, but is the hub of the local rural community. Stornoway has many shops to cater for all your needs, including two large supermarkets, fuel, chemists, and other local produce.
Walking, kayaking, canoeing, cycling, and wild swimming (very cold tidal water) are all available from the door step - or you can just relax and enjoy the peace.

IsleBebytheSea is a new and bespoke built shepherd hut, especially designed and built for the local elements. It is decorated with a cosy traditional Hebridean theme, finished using local wood and tweed, in a vintage character. The benefits from modern comforts, hot water and of course, electricity!
We accept up to 2 guests. There are 2 full size double beds, set up as bunks. There is a short ladder to access the top bed. It offers a bespoke crafted, fully equipped kitchenette, baby butler sink, Le Creuset cookware and vintage cups & saucers.
There is a cute little, but fully equipped WC and shower room with electric shower.
Due to the open location and fierce Winters we get in the Outer Hebrides, we opted for sealed cottage style windows, these are very cosy, offer amazing uninterrupted sea views, and are finished with Harris tweed blinds.
There is under bed luggage storage available to guests.
Free WIFI.
Mobile signal is very weak and is not reliable here.
There are a radio and books for your use.
Your hut is fully insulated and has a heater if you need it, and a fan for the hot days.
The hut is located at the bottom of my garden on a working croft, opening onto the sea shore via a private foot path.
The hut is set 50 meters away from the road,
in a rural location, in the North Lochs area.
We are central to Lewis & Harris, approx 3 miles off the main 'spinal' road which connects Lewis &Harris. Our guests comment on the convenience of the location of IsleBebytheSea, using it as a base for exploring both Lewis & Harris, and having easy travel to and from ferry and airport. (IsleBebytheSea is approx. a 15min drive to Stornoway & 30min drive to Harris - 40min to Tarbert.)
We are close to the Hebridean Way too.
Please be aware we have cats, dogs, hens and horses near your accommodation, and the cats will be very keen to meet you!
This is primarily a working croft with large animals, often heavy machinery, deep ditches and electric fencing, so sadly we are not suitably geared up for accepting children. As such we cannot accept children. Sorry if this doesn’t suit your needs. Please also note the hut is accessed via 2 steps.
We do not accept pets, sorry.
Please note, as a shepherd hut, this type of accommodation is snug. Your studio area is approx 2.8 x 3.5 m, (excluding the bed area and shower room). This is generous for a shepherd hut, and bigger than most glamping pods, but it's still cosy!
Guests at IsleBebytheSea have access to my small home gym. It is attached to my house, approx. 40 metres from hut. The gym is approx. 3 Metres by 4 Metres and contains resistance and cardiovascular equipment. Guests using the gym will need to complete a short safety induction and agree to terms of use first.
You can have private use of our ‘secret garden’ with deck and ‘Lay Z Spa’ hot tub (soft tub). Please note, this is just a domestic hot tub. Terms of use apply to using it. It is chlorinated and tested daily, use of it is dependant on a satisfactory chemical balance and temperature. A short induction is required before it is used.
Relax and enjoy watching the boats sail by on the water, spot the marine life swimming about, listen to the birdsongs, star gaze to our dark sky while in the hot tub, enjoy the sight of the wild flowers and sample the fruit from the bushes lining the hut garden. Walk to the top of the drive to look out for the aurora borealis.
Travel insurance is strongly recommended for your trip to the Islands. Sometimes our ferries and planes get weather bound or can’t travel due to technical issues. Occasionally, we are subject to long power cuts in here in the Islands. (These are more Winter problems, but they have been known in Summer too!) Or maybe you have to change your plans at short notice.. These things could ruin your holiday and leave you out of pocket.. And as we stick to our cancellation policy 100%, travel insurance could offer you peace of mind for the financial side of things.
- "Somehow this ‘shepherds hut’ miraculously contains everything one can need for a very comfortable and restful holiday. The loch-side setting is utterly tranquil and the views are glorious but it is Ann’s hospitality and attention to detail - for example the provision of fresh fruit and milk on arrival and even a fleecy hot water bottle in case it turned chilly at night - that made this a really delightful and memorable stay. If you like star-gazing from a hot tub, or waking to nothing but the sound of the occasional cockerel crowing or sheep bleating then this is the place for you."

The Nicolson House is situated in the small village of Lemreway in South Lewis. It’s a traditional croft house set within a village where crofting life is still widely practiced.
Considered by many to be the most beautiful village on the island, you’ll immediately agree when you come over the brow of the hill and see Lemreway for the first time. From the house, you look out to sea beyond the island of Eilean Liubhaird (where Bonnie Prince Charlie hid in early May 1746 after fleeing Culloden), and you can easily spot the Shiant Islands, the Isle of Skye and the mainland. There’s so much to see on Lewis and Harris that you’ll want to be out and about almost every day. Things not to miss are the Callanish Standing Stones, Gearrannan Blackhouse Village, Uig Bay, the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse, Stornoway, the Harris hills and famous white sandy beaches.
With all the adventures you’ll no doubt enjoy, you will be looking forward to returning to Lemreway and the comfort of The Nicolson House. It has been designed and renovated in 2021 to offer fantastic accommodation for a family or group of friends.
Entering the house, you have a choice of two front doors. The furthest door to the left is most convenient because you enter into the kitchen/dining/utility room. Also on the ground floor, in the heart of the home is a cosy yet spacious sitting room with an open fire, electric wood burner, TV and selection of books. There’s a double bedroom and the family bathroom on the ground floor too. On the first floor there are two twin bedrooms. And all three bedrooms have armchairs and views out across the village, the harbour and out to sea.
There’s a separate steep staircase to the sitting room above the kitchen/dining/utility room. It’s a great space and has a perfectly positioned writing desk by the window to take in the view. There is also an double sofa bed (for flexible sleeping arrangements).
Outside there’s an enclosed garden with a sauna for guests to use after longs days out exploring, or simply just after days relaxing, reading in the house.
Please note: There are open, steep, spiral or narrow stairs at the property.
