This home is in the heart of the Hudson Valley and is a 2 hour drive from NYC and 3 hours from Boston. It features an open floor plan with vaulted ceilings, light-filled windows, lots of living space, and outdoor deck. All with a magnificent view of the Catskills. We're also tech and cooking nerds. So the house is nicely (un)wired and geared up. Also, Our water here is purified from a well on site.

Booked guests have access to the entire house, garage, deck, and land. A really nice perk: our property is a short path from the Millbrook school which has a playground, 400m track, and basketball courts. All open to the public. There are two outbuildings on our property that are not open for use at present.

P.S. Dogs are welcome (up to two), but no cats I'm afraid.

And for even bigger shopping (Best Buy, Target, etc), Poughkeepsie is 30 minutes away.

The Beech House is a 2-hour drive from NYC and 3+ hours from Boston.
If needed, the nearest train station is 15 minutes away in Dover Plains (The Metro-North Harlem Line). The nearest Amtrak and Metro-North Hudson Line station is 30 minutes away, in Poughkeepsie.
Once you've arrived, the village of Millbrook is a 10-minute walk or 5-minute drive away.

A large front porch to dine on and relax, 4 acres of 'peace and quiet', with the birds singing all day long, laundry service 1st & 2nd floors, Strong WIFI throughout the house, huge country kitchen, a "chef's dream" kitchen, master bedroom on 1st floor, large backyard for volleyball/badminton and soccer. All bedrooms are queen or king bedding. Three full bathrooms and one 1/2 bath on first floor. A great escape from the city and a special place to celebrate a gathering, Also, Hire a Chef to cook for you and your family, while you enjoy each others company!

It also references the many birds we have on the property. We adore our wild birds and if you look closely enough, you will see and hear different types of birds from hummingbirds buzzing around to owls hooting in the night. We live on the property with our dog Scruffy in our own home and are completely separate from The Nest making it 100% yours! You will have your own private setting in the studio loft located above our detached garage.

🐾 Pet Policy: We welcome all types of dogs with a $50 fee per animal. If you plan to bring more than one dog, please obtain prior approval from the host. There are several small towns nearby that are fun to explore and the mighty Hudson River and Catskills aren’t too far to the west. All in all, we recommend this house to all (except maybe those with toddlers due to open stairs.)"

- "Stayed in this renovated farmhouse for a very snowy weekend. Nicely redone and furnished with spacious living/dining area. Could have fit 2 more adults or 2-3 kids. Hosts were lovely and introduced us to the goats. Too snowy and icy to get outdoors or explore much but local village has shops and kitchen was stocked with pantry staples and bottled water, milk/creamers for coffee so arrival day grocery run was not needed. Bonus large picture window let us enjoy the abundant snow from the warmth of the living room. Would return to explore trails on the farm in nicer weather. Bonus #2 we got eggs from the host’s chickens at the local market and they are multicolored and yummy. Driveway ended up with a couple inches of ice due to heavy storm but easy to navigate with jeep. *for those with bad knees there is a steep staircase but it has a sturdy banister and good stair treads with steps that appear steep but individual step height not too high for comfort. Pet friendly-leash is a must due to farm animals and wild critters (bears). Would stay again. We and our dog had a great weekend. "

The property sits across from a nature preserve, on a tiny, secluded road, so you are surrounded by trees and wildlife, yet minutes from many quaint towns, restaurants and shops. We are also near farms, hikes, bike trails, wineries, distilleries, historical sites and several leading performing arts centers (Fisher Center at Bard, Vassar, Kaatsbaan) and the Omega Institute.

The Wifi is excellent (fiber optic network) and we have a Generator in case of a power outage.

Guests have full access to and privacy in the Modern Barn and access to the pond, dock and 18 acres of trails on the property. Access to the front yard is restricted to people in our farmhouse which sits on the property (if anyone is in the farmhouse). We (the owners) may be in the farmhouse when you rent the carriage house, but the two houses are distinct and private.

The Salvato Mill is a rustic and charming home. Its waterfall and stream provide an incredible swimming experience in the summer months. It is located near Millbrook and Rhinebeck and is 2 hours from NYC via the Taconic Parkway.

- NATURE ALERT! The Salvato Mill is situated beside a natural flowing stream that actually runs through the side of the building and is surrounded by wild green landscape, so when you venture out on the property you might, if you’re lucky, encounter deer, rabbits, eagles, beaver, turtles and fireflies. However, your experience with nature might involve seeing non-venomous water snakes, crazy looking bugs and scary spiders. And while we have your attention, we would also like to point out that although extremely rare, a bat has been known to fly into the building. In the summer of 2018, we installed sonic devices and outdoor bat houses to keep them out but can’t guarantee their effectiveness. You might also see a spider inside the house due to the exposed stone walls and although we do our best to keep them out, the occasional cheeky mouse might pop in. If you are not comfortable being so close to nature then it could be that The Salvato Mill is not for you and that you would be happier in a more traditional rental.

- The stairs leading up to the mill may not be suitable for the very elderly or infirm.

- In autumn and winter, the central heating is switched on but wood stoves and space heaters in bedrooms may have to be used for additional heating. In summer, there is one AC in the main living room and one in the master bedroom but everywhere else only has fans. The Mill’s stone walls do a great job at keeping it cool but it can still be a bit humid at times.

- Sorry, no young children due to liability concerns.

- Although you can't see any neighboring houses from the Mill, you can hear the road (Route 82), and the road bridge is visible from the waterfalls.

- "This campsite was a wonderful stop on our East Coast roadtrip to see friends scattered across the mid-atlantic states! The website description captures most of the details--most important to us was a friendly responsive host who was flexible with our arrival (gave detailed directions and instructions) and welcomed us personally when we arrived, well organized systems and spaces, a comfortable sleep (the beds and bedding in the tents were great), and a hot shower. The "extras" not so easily seen in the photos were strong wifi, gas grills, wood and a campfire site, a well-stocked pantry with a range of food for sale; and a warm, fun spirit that will surely engage kids and families. We visited on a Wednesday night but I can imagine a lively scene when all the sites are booked, and the fun (and funny) signs, crazy home-made mini-golf, and other game activities made me fondly recall my days as a kid at summer camp. This was our choice because there are few hotels in the area, and it turned out to be a refreshing alternative to the chain motels we used the rest of the trip. Enjoy!"

- "The pictures wowed me in the first place, but to see this property in person is the only way to understand its expansive beauty. With our two 20-something kids (and spouse + friends) based in NYC, we wanted a place to gather that would be a short commute for them. Our host was very responsive and the house caretaker and housekeeper were always nearby to help...and we were greeted with some fresh eggs from the farm's chickens, along with some local produce. Cooking together is our favorite way to reconnect and the farmhouse kitchen is spacious and very well-equipped for anything you want to whip up. The rest of the house (which managed to be both impeccably designed and instantly comfortable at the same time) provided plenty of rooms and sleeping spaces for some work-from-home time and a couple of last minute friend visits. The weather was very warm, but the incredible pool house and pool (situated at a high point in the property for incredible views) offered the perfect spot to cool off. That building, too, was very well outfitted for entertaining...a grill and a fire pit are just off to the side. The hedge-framed tennis court was just beautiful. This was an animal friendly place--our dog had a blast running and exploring the property with us. An organic market was minutes away and the surrounding towns offered interesting shopping and a wonderful farmers market. Needless to say...we highly recommend!"

The outdoor deck is perfect for gourmet grilling and dining al fresco and our fenced in yard is perfect for your furry friends to roam and run around.

- "We had an amazing stay here! The house and property are lovely: the house is compact, cozy and well maintained with big sliding doors in the dining/ sitting areas that open to a wide deck with incredible views of the lawn, river and passing wildlife. (Cardinals, blue jays, heron, osprey and two magnificent bald eagles kept us company all summer long.) The two bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs are all very comfy; there's a small office that made WFH possible and lots of amenities too - the foosball, bocce court and horseshoes were in constant use. The pool is a short walk across the grass and it was delightful to swim under big open skies with an elegant weeping willow nearby. Markets were about 10-15 minutes away, great pizza, burger, bakeries and ice cream spots are also nearby and lots of options for hikes/ nature walks.
