- "For those who love old buildings as I do, this a lovely place to stay - a 16th century house. It’s full of original features like fire places, beams etc. There are lots of books, including for children, available to borrow. One was a 1914 very detailed description of that part of Monmouthshire - local history, buildings, family trees etc. Church Farm is mentioned. There’s also an old church nearby in the village of Mitchel Troy. My room was at the top, on the third floor and had ensuite with shower and toilet. There were two quite steep staircases to climb to get there, so those top floor rooms are not suitable for people with physical limitations, but I think there are other rooms lower down? The main road is very close, but is behind an area of dense large trees, so the house is convenient for the road and at the same time secluded and quiet. Parking is available at the end of a short driveway from the road. The only thing I’d say is that the sign on the road for Church House is small and doesn’t stand out, especially in the dark. I drove past the first time. I had a warm welcome and an enjoyable stay with everything I needed."

The large garden was great for the dogs to let off steam and we'd definitely book again. Although it is a lovely, quiet setting, be aware there's not a lot of 'life' in Penallt and we struggled to find a local store for instance, so bring what you'll need to survive on until you can get to do some shopping . The local pub (The Boat) is at the bottom of a steep hill, so coming back is definitely a longer walk (25-35 mins) than getting there!"

The Space:
With oak beams throughout and exposed original stonework you'll instantly feel at home at Tregaer Mill Barn. The living room has two comfy sofas and a wood burning stove, while the handmade chestnut kitchen has an electric three-oven AGA and dining table with ample seating for all guests staying at the property. The kitchen itself is fully equipped with everything you need with the AGA, microwave, kettle, SMEG fridge/freezer, dishwasher and kitchenware which can be found in the oak dresser. All of these are available for use during your stay.

Tregaer Mill Barn has three bedrooms. Upstairs the master bedroom has a spacious super king-size bed with en-suite power shower, basin and WC. The second bedroom is also a tranquil super-king and also has an en-suite available for you with a wrought-iron roll top bath, wash basin and WC. Head down to the third bedroom on the ground floor and you’ll find a comfy queen bed with French doors opening out onto a terrace with stunning views.

Please note that the bed in the second bedroom can be made into two singles if requested before arrival.

All beds at the property have Egyptian cotton bed linen and will guarantee you a great night’s sleep.

The property also boasts a separate family bathroom on the ground floor equipped with a power shower, wash basin and WC. A boiler fitted in April 2023 will assure you of plenty of hot water and full central heating throughout your stay, on top of the electric Aga and wood burning stove.

In the warmer summer months the Aga can be switched off and a double hot plate used for cooking on request.

The joys that Tregaer Mill Barn bring don’t end inside the property. Outside you’ll find a large enclosed garden. Go alfresco and make the most of the outdoor corner sofa and dining table. This space is also ideal for families with children and dogs, providing plenty of space for them to wander around in a secure environment.

- "We had a fantastic week in Monmouth and the surrounding area with lots of lovely walks (Beechenhurst Sculpture Park and The Sugar Loaf) a trip to the Brecon Mountain Railway and Hereford as well as time spent in Monmouth and Abergavenny, both of which have great markets. The Lodge is, without doubt, one of the best properties we have stayed in. It is very well equipped with 3 shower rooms with wonderful “rain” showers and generously large, soft towels. The decor and everything else in the property is of the highest quality and the outside seating including two sun loungers meant we could relax and enjoy the stunning views from the garden. Meander through the town to the 800 year-old Monnow Bridge - the last medieval fortified river bridge in Britain and now a Grade I listed monument - and along the way, browse the many shops, eateries and coffee houses. There is also a Waitrose and a M&S Food Hall.

I will not be on site during your visit. We can communicate through the Airbnb platform. You can also ring on the Ring Doorbell so we can talk directly, however, I may not always be able to answer immediately.

Sadly, the property is not suitable for children or teenagers.

The fire alarms at Beaufort Arms Court are tested once a month on a Tuesday morning at 10am - do not be alarmed!

Located in Herefordshire, England our refurbished cottage has a private entrance, private courtyard garden, parking area and BBQ. Located in a picturesque, rural village with breath-taking countryside views. Surrounded by wonderful country walks and only an 15 minute drive to the town of Monmouth where you have local shops, cafes, restaurants and supermarkets. A drive of around 30 minutes will take you to Hereford. There are many places to explore as you are in the heart of the Wye Valley
This stunning three bedroom cottage is split between two floors. The cottage sleeps 9 but this is for a maximum of 6 adults. We request no more than 6 adults stay at the cottage. There are two bathrooms one with a shower and one with a large bath, both have underfloor heating and heated towel rails.
The space has been designed to perfectly accommodate a group of 6 adults, two families up to 9 or an extended family up to 9. There are two double bedrooms and then a further large bedroom that has a double bed and a further three single beds as bunk beds.
The Owl House Cottage is a private holiday home. With its own private driveway, entrance and courtyard garden.
