Brown County Cabin on 16 Acres - Very Close to IU!
Cabin
Morgantown, Indiana, USA

One bedroom w/ loft family cabin located on 16 wooded acres in NW Brown County. Great for families and weekend getaways!

Very secluded, peaceful -- beautiful in all seasons. Big front porch and the property is full of wildlife.

I've owned this family cabin for 25 years and regularly use it with my kids and friends. It's a second home I've tried to make the spaces for comfortable. Nice beds, huge deck, fantastic front porch, cozy living area.

I have a large kitchen with modern conveniences -- convection oven/stove, microwave, new fridge, good cookware, dishwasher (the kountry moveable type), coffee maker & keurig, electric skillet, crock pot, Weber grills, random spices, etc. I stay at short term rentals myself I hate dealing with a lousy kitchen -- that won't be a problem.

I adore music and if you do to, it's a fun experience. The house is wired so speakers on the deck and porch. I have 50K tunes on iTunes, on my computer. I have a turntable and 400 LP records.. The stereo has bluetooth so you can play your own music quite easily. There are also two guitars -- if you play, enjoy these.

There's a wood-burning stove which is wonderful to run during the cold months. Likely required in the Dec/Jan. Firewood is provided. Upstairs and downstairs have good AC through a recent mini-split unit. There's a large, covered front porch with overhead fans, which is where I spend a lot of my time.

The cabin has fiber -- very fast internet. We have two smart TVs and two DVD players, stereo (already noted), a windows laptop connected to the stereo.

The bath is nice -- shower insert, pedestal sink, etc.

One note -- this is a cabin deep in the woods. While we do everything we can to mitigate the native pests -- we still get native pests! Mice and some bugs are an occasional feature, as much as I try...

This is a 35 year old cabin, built from a design by Poole Saw Mill in Helmsburg, IN. It's poplar log that was laid green and seasoned in-place for two years. Then finished. The man who built it, Daniel, is Amish and did a nice job. He lived on the property for about for about five years and there are several charming outbuildings -- an outhouse, manger, canning shed, chicken coop and a little structure on the 'back forty'. Daniel lived in that crazy structure out back for a couple years with his wife and two kids while he was developing the property! I added a big barn and the large rear deck in 2001.

Guest Reviews:

- "Trip was wonderful. Very peaceful. Beautiful grounds. I am an OCD cleaner so the level of cleanliness was not like in my home. I had to realize it was a cabin in the woods not my home and leave my prejudices behind. The cabin has something that grows on you and just makes you relax. Loved the woods and trails. Went to Nashville and Morgantown, Our standard poodle loved it. Would defiantly stay again. I was surprised by the amount of stock left in cabin. Spices and supplies. I left some Kcups and paper plates myself. It seems to be almost a tradition. Easy trip to Nashville and easy to find. Host was great and let us check in early. God willing we will be back."

- "In the words of my 4 year old: “Ahhh, I love this place.” In the words of my 6 year old: “MOM, why didn’t you book this cottage for 2 weeks?!?” We had a lovely 3-night stay at this cottage, and it was everything I wanted! We made s’mores and cooked hot dogs over the fire pit. We ate outside listening to birds, swung on the porch swing, relaxed in the hot tub, and gazed at stars. The house was warm, welcoming, and clean. The loft area was PERFECT for our kids, and they wanted to spend our whole trip in the cottage. Thank you for a great stay!"

We had very hot and humid weather so sitting out on the back deck was miserable a couple nights so not having a sitting area inside was a bummer. Otherwise we enjoy the back deck a lot. - "We thought the cabin was perfect for our needs. We only hung out there later in the evening and to sleep as we had our motorcycles to ride and explore all day. The only thing we thought would have made it better was if the fridge door opened the opposite way, but clearly that’s not a deal breaker." - "Property owner (rex I think) went above and beyond! Heater unit broke at 1:30am and he brought space heaters immediately to keep the place warm! And completely put in a new unit in while we were shopping the next day!!! Great place to stay!! Guest Reviews:

- "We loved our stay in cabin #6. This was definitely the best location on the property too: shade, privacy, flat areas around the cabin for dogs/kids, and if you come during a festival, you are between the two stages and can listen from your back porch (no festival while we were there). The AC works extremely well, but the campground also provided an extra box fan for the loft since it was warmer than the main floor. The sinks in the bathroom and kitchen are tiny, but we expected that based on the pictures. We would have loved to have a couple shelves above or a wire rack under the kitchen counter for storage of our dry goods. The check-in and check-out processes were simple, but part of the check-out process was to scoop out the ashes from your fire pit; it would have been nice if they provided a small shovel for that, but we made do with an empty water jug that we cut into a scoop. The linens were clean and comfortable, and the extra table on the back porch was quite handy. And if you forgot to pack something, there's a Dollar General about half a mile down the road. If we're back in the area, we will definitely check if this cabin is available again!"

- "Don't like the push button number entry. Had a very hard time getting in. Needs to be a key entry." - "It was hot the first night in the cabin cause the ac was just turned on and we brought a fan which helped. Never stayed somewhere I had to pay for showers so bring cash for quarters. Everything was clean. The museum was cool and we loved King Fred(donkey). Wished there was more for kids to do besides just a playground. But over all a great week"

Guest Reviews:

- "This little cabin was a great getaway for a mother and daughters weekend! We really liked having a fire pit for s’mores, a kitchen for cooking and a table for playing games!! If you are okay roughing it a little but still have most modern conveniences, then this is a great option. This is also a good option for those who don’t have a camper but want to “camp” with friends who do. A Dollar General is close by for those items you forgot and other needs that arise. I think it was early in the camping season so the campgrounds were sparsely populated. Nashville is close for those who want to spend the day shopping. An added note: if you prefer a softer bed, consider taking an egg carton or memory foam type cushion."

- "We could not have enjoyed our stay more. The house feels a lot bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside and was very clean. The set up really worked well for what we needed. We loved the outside area as well. The seclusion and private pond were amazing. Hoping to come back soon with the kids! Thanks for everything!!" - "The cabin was clean and updated. The lake being a few steps off the front porch was also a great addition! Although we didn’t get to enjoy the cabin as much as we would have liked (we were there for graduation weekend), I’d say over all the stay was great. I would definitely like to come back again and just spend the weekend on the property relaxing. The only downside is it’s right next to a dairy farm and it does smell at time, but it was nothing that ruined our stay. Would definitely recommend this place. It’s absolutely beautiful in Brown County."

Cute as a Button Cabin on Button Lake

Turn off the country road onto a lane that takes you across Button Lake and you’ll catch your first glimpse of Cute as a Button Cottage. The big patio and sliding glass doors looking out over the lake welcome you home.

If you are looking for tranquility, you’ve found it. Nestled among the trees, you can enjoy the solitude from the glider on the patio or the swing on the hill. As you’re enjoying the trees reflected in the lake don’t be surprised if a doe and her fawns show up for a drink or the visiting Great Blue Heron strolls across the dam looking for a snack.

You’ll enter the cabin on the lower level where the large open concept kitchen/dining/living areas are perfect for family and friend gatherings. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware, tableware and appliances, including microwave, coffee pot, toaster, blender and more. With the large sliding glass doors all across the front you’ll be able to prepare and eat a meal while watching the wildlife. The comfortable love seats and recliners in the living room allow you to kick back and watch your favorite show on the flat screen Roku Smart television. There is also a half bath.

A spiral staircase leads you upstairs to a sitting room with Roku Smart television. On either side of the sitting room are the two spacious bedrooms. One has a bay window so you can enjoy the outdoors from the comfort of your bedroom which is furnished with a queen size bed. The second bedroom, equally as spacious, has two double beds. Both bedrooms and the sitting room have sliding glass doors that take you to a
deck overlooking the lake, a perfect place to watch the early morning mist rise from the water and enjoy your first cup of coffee. Full bath with tub and shower.

Downstairs, the large patio leads out to the lake and has plenty of seating, including a glider and table with umbrella. A flat bottom boat is on the water’s edge and available for paddling around the lake. Be on the lookout for painted turtles sitting on logs and all kinds of frogs along the edge.

Mornings are especially delightful. You’ll be awakened to the sounds of hundreds of birds beginning their day.
And evenings are special, too. The pair of barred owls often talk to each other at dusk and the chorus of frogs will lull you to sleep.

Wildlife abounds here at Button Lake and being a part of it is a special gift.

Just fifteen minutes from the quaint village of Nashville where you’ll find great shopping and restaurants
this little cabin is the perfect get-away.

This cottage has plenty of usable water supplied by the lake well. The water is safe, tested and filtered, but, it is not "city water". You might want to bring some drinking water with you if you do not like the taste of well water.

- "Wonderful" - "My son and I went for the weekend. Vrbo said I would receive an email sometime after 2:00pm on the day of our arrival with check-in instructions and the code to the cabin door. I never received the email. Finally, around 6:00pm, I called the number of the campground office. The office was closed and there was no after-hours number given on the recording. I figured we'd just go ahead and go and see if we could find someone or maybe there would be a phone number posted on the office door. But when our departure was delayed, and I realized we wouldn't be getting in until close to midnight, I did some more searching on Google and found another number to try. This number was answered and the person who answered was very helpful and friendly. She told me everything I needed to know, how to get to the cabin, where to find the door code, etc. She logged into her Vrbo account and could see that an email was scheduled to be sent to me, but it hadn't been sent. (She was with the campground, not Vrbo, so it wasn't her fault at all.) As I said, she was very helpful and pleasant. From that point on, the stay was marvelous. We arrived late, as I mentioned, found the cabin easily thanks to her directions, and got into the cabin with no problem. The grounds are excellent. and generally very clean. They obviously had just had quite a few people depart as the dumpsters were full to the brim weren't emptied while we were there. (Although, I didn't expect them to be emptied over the weekend.) The cabin was clean and otherwise exactly as promised. The mini-fridge and microwave were both helpful to have, as was the fire ring out behind the cabin. The bathhouse was nearby and was well-lit 24 hours a day (inside and out), and very clean and well-maintained. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Overall, a great stay."

There are plenty of plugins inside. We had a little trouble with the key pad lock. Usually took us multiple times each time before it worked. I think you just have to punch in the buttons slowly. The cabins are situated nicely under trees and the neighbors were all very quiet and respectful. Would definitely stay again!"

Once you discover this hidden bit of paradise, were sure you'll never want to leave.

Visitors who enter the house through the humble exterior are always pleasantly surprised when they open the front door and enter the spacious living room/kitchen with wall to wall hardwood floors and picture windows that give an almost tree house effect to the view of the private lake, that sits just a stone's throw from the back porch. The kitchen is fully equipped with table ware as well as pots and pans, coffee grinder, oven, microwave and toaster. It's the perfect setting to prepare your morning breakfast without losing sight of the surrounding woodland. In the early mornings, keep your eye out for the Blue Heron* that often stands in the mist on a sunken tree branch, preening his feathers or the deer that come down to the bank on the opposite side of the lake for a morning drink. There is a boat ramp for non-gas engine boats- great for electric trolling motors, kayaks and canoes.

The living room houses a stone fire place, comfy couch, pool table and a flat screen TV. - "Great house. Beutiful setting. Amazing design features. I would argue you can't call it two baths without two showers. The basement bathroom is just a tub. No shower. For four adults no shower In the second bath means it's not a full bath and 4 people had to share a shower. Check in and check out we're out of the way and out of the times. I don't want to drive to an office to pick up keys and do the same to leave. In this day and age I haven't had to do that in a long time. They got rules for rules. I loved the house. Loved the setting. Was well appointed but only one shower and should have keyless entry. Should definitely be able to the leave the keys in the House. Great house. Outta of the way check in. One shower and rules for rules."
