We recommend bringing your own car or renting one once you arrive off of the ferry. Orcas has many State Parks with trails and lakes that are best accessed by driving.

The Quinn Cottage is a lovely waterfront home nestled on a sunny, wooded acre of land looking across Harney Channel to Shaw Island. The famous San Juan Island ferries and a continual romantic parade of pleasure boats sail by the cottage’s view throughout the day. The south-facing exposure catches the sunrise and sunset as well as all the sunlight and warmth possible through the seasons. It is a perfect location.

The cottage is just two miles from the Orcas Island ferry landing and public dock and the quaint Orcas Village with a well-stocked country market, shops and eateries, the Victorian era Orcas Hotel and Restaurant, movie rentals, whale watching excursion boats, and kayak rentals. Also two miles from the cottage is Bayhead Marina with boat slips and an easy boat and kayak launch ramp. Lake Killebrew, a small public lake only one mile away, is fun for fishing, hiking, and exploration.

An abundance of wildlife can be enjoyed from this pretty seaside retreat: deer, rabbits, raccoons, otters, mink, seals, bald eagles, heron, and an endless variety of other sea, shore, and land birds. At low tide the rocks at the water’s edge offer hours of exploration for oysters, starfish, crab, small fish, octopus, jelly fish, and other sea creatures.

Wood is supplied for the charming wood-burning stove in the living room. In addition every room in the home has its own baseboard heater and separate thermostat for year-round comfort.

The open, sunny kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, dining, and entertaining with lovely dishes, table ware, and linens. Even the gourmet cook will find the necessary appliances, cookware, bake ware, and utensils for any special recipe.

The pantry/laundry room has a washer and dryer, cleaning and laundry supplies, picnic ware, beach towels, and ample storage space. Many cooking essentials are available for use by the rental guest, including spices, herbs, coffee, tea, sugar and oils, and much more.

The large glassed-in upper deck and the water's edge lower deck have Adirondack chairs, dining tables, a gas barbeque, a gas fire pit for 'camp fires,' and a hammock. Both upper and lower decks are lovely spots for reading, relaxing, dining, and the constant viewing of water and wildlife.

The landscaped areas around the house have whimsical pieces of “exterior art” and other treasures. The acre of land beyond the house is covered with mossy knolls and sunny fields, creating a cushion of peace for the cottage. No road noise can be heard from this serene spot.

A shared memory our family will never forget! Mary and Jeffrey are gracious and responsive hosts, and have a wealth of knowledge about Orcas and the other San Juan Islands. There are two new Lazy-boy Swivel Rocking chairs to enjoy. We provide upscale bedding and additional cozy blankets to make your stay particularly enjoyable. The Lower Studio Suite has Heat/AC, Smart TV/Direct TV, WIFI, Books and an assortment of games.

The Kitchenette is fully outfitted. There is an island which can be used for food prep as well as seating for two indoors. You can take your meals outside on to the Patio which has additional seating and overlooks the newly installed terraced gardens and a water view of Fishing Bay! There are basic cooking supplies which you are welcome to use.

There is 1 Full Bathroom with Walk-In Shower. We provide high quality plush towels, artisan soap and bath salts. There is a (shared) Full-Size Washer/Dryer which is located at the top of the Stairwell.

The cottage has a Southerly facing Patio with an Ocean View where you can enjoy the lovely view and abundant wildlife. There is a patio set for outdoor dining and a Propane BBQ for your cooking pleasure.

The newly installed Gardens are breathtaking and we have strategically created multiple relaxation spaces for our guests to enjoy. In the evening enjoy the Fire-Pit at the bottom of the property and we simply ask that you make sure the Fire is extinguished fully after each use.

Andrew Gath design of Seattle helped us with the interior, it is warm. comfortable and classic. Enjoy dining or morning coffee on the New large south facing deck with beautiful water views. High speed internet and Rocu Direct TV in both bedrooms. Wake up to a sunrise over the Salish Sea. Your Island home is part of a small close knit "homestead" community-originally a fishing camp at the turn of the century. Their are 3 full time neighbors and 3 ocassional weekenders-thus are home is more of place to go to savor the peace of the Islands. If having a good ole fashioned whoopee party on the deck until midnight is your idea of a vacation (and who doesn't like that occasionally) than this location is probably not for you. Sound carries and this home has neighbors. I have mult bird feeders around the yard and when one gets quite and still, birds of all sorts will fly right up to you, along with our resident Doug Fir squirrels, Island deer and raccoon although we ask that you not feed the deer or raccoons. River Otters frequently swim by the house! We now ALLOW one small fur baby. The dog must be no greater than 15lbs. The dog is not allowed in the backyard garden and is not allowed to run freely in the neighborhood. The dog is not allowed on the furniture (unless it’s on the deck) or bed. Strongly recommend getting the extra insurance when bringing a dog.

Our relaxing getaway cabin features two bedrooms and a large loft, full kitchen and bath, boho-vintage touches, wood stove, electric heat, dining table for six, flat screen TV, and plenty of books and games. Outside, the large deck with BBQ is the perfect place to unwind and drink in one of our spectacular North Shore sunsets.

The two bedrooms feature queen sized beds and the high-ceilinged loft has a king sized bed. The well-stocked kitchen contains a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, coffee maker, microwave, electric stove/oven, toaster, kettle, and all the cookware you’ll need to create that quintessential Pacific Northwest meal.

We have free high speed Wi-Fi for those wanting to do a bit of work from “home,” or if you simply want to curl up in the evening with your favorite show.

In the summer months, you’ll want to keep our binoculars on hand as bald eagles, great blue heron, seals, and otters are frequently spotted in the area. If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of an orca or porpoise pod traveling through!

Our family has made many great memories in the Sunset Cabin over the years, and we’re so excited to be able to share it with you!

OTHER NOTES / CAUTIONS:

While we welcome children at Sunset Cabin, please keep a close eye on them. There are several hazards for little ones on the property. The cabin is perched atop a rugged hillside with no fencing. The grounds are steep and the wild vegetation can be thorny. Inside the cabin, the stairway to the loft is long and has no mid-point landing. We recommend using the baby gate provided if you have small children.

Enjoy our fabulous Orcas Island cottage nestled in the woods above the village of Eastsound. Relax in the hot tub, sip wine by the firepit, cozy in one of two living rooms both with propane fireplaces. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs, and a fold-down murphy bed downstairs along with a dedicated work space and third bathroom.

- "The Madrona Suite and our hosts, Jodi and Daniel were amazing. The property, it's location and amenities were top notch. The space had everything my friend and I needed for a girls weekend getaway and adventure. It's a very spacious studio area with everything you need to be comfortable-even a microwave, toaster oven and air fryer! Having a bed and a comfortable pullout couch made it super comfortable for the two of us. Jodi & Danial were incredibly gracious, responsive, offered great suggestions and advice regarding scheduling ferry reservations. They also shared great local information about events going on 'on-island' while we were there. They were kind enough to bring and share chairs to use at the summer concert series that was happening one evening, but we were unable to get back to the property to pick them up. I can't say enough about what a wonderful experience this was and would definitely recommend this to others as well as stay there again."

We live on beautiful Orcas Island, the gem of the San Juan Islands, off the coast of Washington State. Our cabin is at the foot of Buck Mtn. facing southwest. Our location is private and peaceful. We are minutes from all the amenities of the main village- Eastsound - where one finds the grocery store, organic food coop, restaurants, movie theatre, retail shops, Community Arts Center and more! The property is one of the original homesteads of the island. Our orchard is one of the few surviving from 1895 - most of the apple and pear trees (30+) are still robust producers! The original foundation is just behind the cabin. The family (Langells) abandoned the house when electric power became available. Our new cabin was built by Orcas locals using local wood. We heat with in-floor radiant, as we enjoy the quiet and comfort of it - its wonderful in winter! We also took care to provide all the amenities, such as full size refrigerator, washer dryer, and dishwasher. The beds are very comfy. There is a picnic table for you to enjoy eating in the orchard, a porch to hang out on with outdoor rockers and lounging chairs, and a bbq is available. If your cellphone service is spotty, we have a land line with unlimited long distance. Wireless internet is also available along with a television and free streaming of Netflix, Hulu, HBO and You Tube tv etc. We have lived on Orcas for over 30 years (my husband, Jim, even longer) and raised our two kids here. We look forward to hosting you at The Cottage in the Orchard! We have an active vr permit with San Juan County.
