Imagine hiking, snowshoeing or cross country skiing in your own backyard. Manicured trails are nearby if preferred. Our shoreline is 1,000 feet and rocky with deep warm water. Enjoy diving off the dock or try your luck fishing. Our lake has many kinds of fish... pike, bass, etc. Or just enjoy the privacy and quietness or a good book. Summer water toys include a big floating mat, many flitter boards, canoe and aluminum boat. We have lots of room to park your boat/ATV/snowmobile trailers. OFSC and OFATV trails are very close to our cabin! The ATV/snowmobile bridge to Quebec is 10 minutes away. The cabin has a queen size bed on the main level with a double and single mattress in a shallow loft above. The bunkie has a double bed, a single bunkbed and a couch. There is also a couch in the main cabin.

Cottage bookings are Friday to Friday in July and August with 2 day bookings in the spring and fall. Cottage has 2 bedrooms that sleeps 7 and one 3 piece bathroom. Our cottage is a quaint 2 bedroom bungalow with a sandy beachfront and beautiful sunsets! The cottage sleeps 5 in total. There is a hid-a-bed couch should you want to add 2 guests. There is one full piece bath, an eat-in kitchen, living room with floor to ceiling fireplace and a screened in sun porch for lazing around and enjoying a peaceful view of the lake. The cottage’s main water source comes from the lake, even though it is filtered I do not recommend you drink it therefore, there is a water cooler provided for drinking, washing/rinsing purposes (2 empty jugs are supplied and can be exchanged in local town for new full jugs) a stove, microwave, fridge/freezer, coffee maker with filters, and a Tassimo machine (Coffee pods not supplied), a toaster, TV with DVD/VCR player and a selection of children's and Adult PG movies. Outdoor facilities include a propane BBQ (an **empty tank (**last guests who filled/exchanged tank may not have used it all) is provided, and can be exchanged in local town for a full one), an outdoor swing, 3 kayaks, a paddleboat and a paddle board, clothes line and a fire pit (wood can be purchased in the local village of Cobden). All items are “use at your own risk”. Your boat(s) must be launched at the boat launch in Cobden as there is no boat access to the lake at the cottage. This peaceful location can offer great fishing, swimming, and kayaking. The sandy beachfront is perfect for sunbathing and just relaxing.

Note: **Blue Algae is a natural occurrence in lakes in Ontario and can bloom during an extended hot period over the summer. In the past the municipality said it has been sited approximately 5 km’s down the lake on the opposite side from our cottage, at the local beach/boat launch.

**Fire Bans may also be a normal occurrence during a extended hot/dry periods during the summer months according to the Cobden Fire Department.

**Weeds are a natural occurrence in a lake and may be more liberal around the shoreline if not disturbed by swimmers and boaters alike.

***Renters will be contacted by me and/or the authorities that govern these occurrences should it become unsafe to swim or have a camp fire during your stay.

***Cancellations, discounts, and/or refunds will not be accepted based on the fact that these restrictions MAY occur over the course of the summer, before or during your stay within the normal cancellation policy.

The local town of Cobden offers artisan shopping, a farmers market, a beach and a boat launch. There is white-water rafting in the area, along with water slides, mini golf, and zip-lining at Logos Land. The Oaks of Cobden golf course and the Whitetail Golf Club are close by also. The small city of Pembroke is a great place for dining out, shopping, including a drive-in theatre, and it is just a 1/2 hour drive.

Built in 1870 by the first homesteaders on this Ottawa Valley farm, the earliest incarnation would have been as a small barn but it was turned into a charming guest house reflecting the German heritage of the current owners. This cabin site is tucked into the forest at the base of the Deacon Escarpment with a view of the Bonnechere Valley Hills. It is a 10 min hike to the Escarpment Lookout, and roughly a 25 min hike to your canoe on a small lake. There is a picnic table, firepit, outdoor gazebo bar, seasonal outdoor shower and private outhouse. The cabin comes with a map of 30km of trails for you to hike or snowshoe. No neighbours within 500m in any direction. Possibility of occasional guest cars going past.
The space
This Pod style cabin is the perfect cozy forest escape for two. Spend time relaxing in the outdoor bar and enjoy the screened in hammock for a nap. The stars shine through your clear roof:)

Campers and their pets have access to all of our hiking trails with the exception of trails marked "Private Trail" leading to individual campsites and cabins--we do our best to ensure privacy:) You can drive your vehicle to this cabin other than winter, 550m from the winter parking area.
There are 3 other private cabins on this property, the "Algonquin Wolf," "Trackers Cabin," and the "Sarah Lesley;" all 3 are 4 season, off-grid with solar power.
Other things to note
Our nature trails are mostly hilly, so be prepared for a climb up, but enjoy the hike down on the way back. There is a picnic table lookout area at the top for a picnic or rest. There are steep drops in places. Please keep an eye on your children! The trails below the escarpment are more forested and have little or no hills. They are excellent for viewing birds and seeing animal tracks.
Cell service available: cabins and campsites are located close to a cell tower. Well-behaved pets are welcome. Please keep them close or on a leash so that they do not chase the deer:)

- "The property was nicely secluded, with multiple trails leading up to the top of the escarpment with a lovely view of Golden Lake. The cabin itself was clean and cozy, and the AC was perfect for sleeping as we went in a 35° July heatwave. Great little fire pit with affordable firewood supplied by the hosts. Be mindful of leaving any dry food in the screened-in kitchenette if going out for more than an hour -- the local chipmunks are hungry and know what they're looking for. Only minor complaint was the outdoor shower. Was expecting a wall-mounted, electrically-pumped shower connected to rain barrels (and the welcome binder in the cabin had instructions for such), but instead there was a pump sprayer with a garden hose attachment -- worked well for cleaning up, but my girlfriend wasn't thrilled. All in all, a great spot in the Bonnechere Valley if you're looking for something nicer than tent camping but are still willing to give up the amenities of the city. Even better if you bring your own kayak or paddleboard to hit up the Bonnechere River."

Welcome to beautiful Golden Lake where you will find a sprawling sand beach with gradual entry swimming waterfront. Located 1.5hr from Ottawa. 4 hours from Toronto. 35 minutes from pembroke. 5 minutes to Killaloe where you will find LCBO and a small grocery store. 2 minutes to boat launch and 5 minutes to the Reserve.

Come enjoy the beautiful sand beach and swimming. The main floor has the queen bed with ensuite. The second floor has 2 double beds with a bathroom attached to this room. The main floor has a living room with a smart tv. Ceiling fans throughout the main floor.

Our forested nature TRAILS are mostly rugged with seasonal wet areas. The escarpment has steep drops in places; please keep an eye on your children!

LATE MAY-JULY is our main mosquito season. Insect repellent, pants with long sleeve shirt and bug jacket is recommended. ***Biting insects are attracted to dark clothing.

This off-grid, two bedroom log cabin has a private hiking trail along the top of the Deacon Escarpment leading to your stunning view of Golden Lake. Enjoy exploring, hiking, and canoeing; Cabin Comforts:propane fireplace, fridge/freezer, kitchenware, stove with oven, washroom with composting toilet and vanity with cold running water.
