However, the directions that the hotel provided prior to arrival were not clear. They put us at a train station that is very far away and required a significant bus trip which we were not told about. Also, the hotel isn't actually in Piombino (which was not told to us) which and is in Riotorto which made getting a bus challenging since it put us in the wrong town. Also, the beach is further than 2 km away and I would not recommend walking to the beach from the hotel as you have to walk along a busy highway that is not suitable for pedestrians. That said, the beach is beautiful and completely worth a visit but take a bus. The hotel restaurant was quite nice and the hotel is in a fairly residential area."

Casale Serenissima is located in Piombino’s countryside and is just 2 km away from the sea. It is the classical farmhouse of the former Ente Maremma, recognized for its architectural interest in the rural heritage of Piombino. Bought in 2013, it has undergone a profound, conservative restoration that started from the stabilization of the foundation to the replacement of the roof, using modern and energy saving products, which classifies it as energy class C. It features an LPG heating system. During the restoration, new windows were opened and the pre-existing ones were enlarged, which makes the house very luminous. The building is located in a large, fenced 2500-m² garden with many trees, a well, and automatic irrigation. In the garden, there is also a small grove with selected oaks (oaks, cork oaks and holm oaks). On the property, there are over two hundred Mediterranean plants, including the myrtle. The property also includes a large 400-m² travertine solarium with a 12x6-m swimming pool that features a salt system (without chlorine) and variable depth from 1.20 to 2.20 m. Easy access to the swimming pool is created with Roman stairs. The swimming pool is equipped with underwater lighting. In the house, the original and classical shape was modified by removing the external access staircase on the upper floor and by creating new windows. The architectural concept was inspired by a modern concept; it gave the building chromatic elements that exalt the classical structure inside the perspective of a rural house close to the sea. The windowsills are terracotta made with pieces recovered from the ancient floor discovered under the clay tiles that was put on top during the years. There are mosquito nets in all windows, and wooden shutters on the upper floor. Furthermore, on the ground floor, the windows and doors are protected by gratings. The house is 10 km away from Piombino, it is located in the Vignarca area in the flat countryside in front of the sea on the east coast. Guests' privacy and quietness are assured, but the house is not isolated. About 300 m away, in fact, there are others buildings, some are rural, others touristic. The sea is only 2 km away and is reachable also by bike. There are free and equipped beaches (there is also a dog beach) with many bars and restaurants amongst other services. Not to be missed is the Baratti Sea, famous for its archaeological mining area of Populonia. The farmhouse is near amenities. Agata prepared to go meals that i was able to deliver to my wife who stayed in our bungalow. The food was fantastic, and despite the disappointment of having to deal with my wife sickness, the experience was memorable. The property is an independent part of a beautiful old beach-front farmhouse, (the other half belonging to Michael's nephew and niece) restored as a seaside holiday home. It has it's own garden area and independent access to the beach. On the ground floor there is a large and beautiful fully equipped kitchen with its pantry and a dining table that seats 14. A large sitting room with various comfortable armchairs and sofas around a fireplace completes the ground floor. There is also a piano. Upstairs ( the stairs now have a hand-rail for safety) there are four large bedrooms and one large study that doubles as a bedroom as needed. Each room has its own bathroom, the study sharing with the adjacent bedroom. One of the bedrooms is so large that as well as the double bed there is also a double sofa-bed, should it be needed. Outside there is a large stone table under a pergola for al-fresco meals with a view over the beach and sea, as well as a paved area for outdoor furniture (sofas, deck chairs and big shady umbrella ), nice to retire to when the sun on the beach is too strong. On the other side of the house there is a vine pergola for quiet moments away from the beach from which one can listen to the water in the little canal (safely walled in) that runs beside the house and perhaps catch a glimpse of the kingfishers that nest there.
A word about children;
This is our much-loved home. We ask visitors (specially those with small children!) to be aware of the fact that all the furnishings in the house are either antique or treasured family heirlooms. Due to this we would ask you to carefully consider whether it is prudent to bring many young children to the house! Another fact to consider is that there is a canal running along one side of the house, protected by a low wall. The canal is not deep, but might be worrisome for somebody with a small child. Please take time to consider these facts.
Please remember we are in the country, and occasionally you may find geckos and a few harmless insects in the house. Rarely a bat may fly around in the evening, exiting the house after a few moments. These creatures are harmelss, and have the merit of eating mosquitos and other insects. We consider them a sign of a healthy environment and would be happy and grateful if you could tolerate them too.

We arrived later than expected even though instructions to find the villa were perfect. Our hosts were there to greet us and showed us were to find everything. Told us where to find the nearest mini market and left us with a bottle of wine – brilliant !! The beds were very comfy with pristine cotton bed linen and everywhere was spotlessly clean. Eating outside with the sound of the sea was wonderful and you hardly saw anyone on the large curving beach. A problem we later had was resolved within the hour and we felt that Conzi was always there should we need her. Genuinely could not wish for more charming hosts. Once the refrigerator filled correctly, you can also forget your car for several days: in the holiday resort from early June to mid-September a small supermarket is open: here you can buy the essentials such as fresh bread, cutlery, cheese and vegetables.
Culture, nearby lovely old villages like Suvereto, Campiglia Marittima, Massa Marittima are certainly a visit worth. Further south Castiglion della Pescaia, Punta Ala, Uccellina and the Giardino the Tarocchi of Nicki de Saint Phalle.
