Spider monkeys were swinging above our cabin every morning, holwers start up at day break, and capuchins befriended us at the beach. Scarlett macawas everywhere, we saw them constantly, as well as toucans. The beach immediately out front is wavy and rough, but my kids still jumped in the waves daily. The highlight is San Josecito beach, a 17 minute walk along the ocean. It is a calmer bay with a reef and plenty of fish. We swam with a 4-5 foot sea turtle for half an hour. This place was deserted until noon every day. Food was excellent, fresh and traditional. They make fresh fruit juices daily! Staff are very lovely and go out of their way to ensure you have a great stay. It was a very memorable part of our trip and we felt fully immersed in the jungle at ocean forest."

There was no driver available, and she took it upon herself to pick us up from La Fortuna and drive us around during our stay, then dropping us all the way in San Jose. What gives this resort its charm is the incredible ability of all the staff to immediately make you feel part of their family (special thanks to Glenda, Heylin, Mar and Felipe who all went the extra mile and are just charming). That and the many residents who’ve been coming back for years – who we got to know over Tico Sour cocktails at 6pm and the communal dinner (signalled at 7pm by a conch shell horn."

It may not be a good place for everyone though. It was a little too quiet for us. It is a place that attracts those who just want to read, mediate or stare into the trees. It attracts older people I think, but the walkways are very difficult for older people, the rocks are slippery and rounded, and the cabins are far apart along steep pathways. There are some very nice trails, but they forbid walking them at night. That really sucks, because that is when the interesting animals can be seen on the trails. I won't stay where I cannot explore at night. There are screens on the cabin windows, but no air conditioning, only fans. We were very warm at night, so lost some sleep. I really like the property, the people, food and scenery, but won't stay there again. Just too boring for my taste. Too many rules! I want to be were I can explore at my leisure and interact with nature and with others. No hotel pool should close at 7 pm! "

She is such a kind and friendly person, as is her husband, who takes care of the gardens and grounds. The infinity pool was always clean and cool (I think they must have a chiller). Montezuma has a nice beach, although parts of it are very rocky, and a beautiful waterfall that has a difficult climb to reach it. We loved the national parks in the area and went for walks in several of them and saw birds, monkeys and deer. We had a wonderful week and felt far away from the cares of the world."

- "A little piece of heaven. Very close to the Corcovado National Park, you can walk there. Everyday we would go on a hike, as soon as you walk out of the hotel you start seeing monkeys and all sorts of wildlife. Heck, you don't even need to leave the hotel. We had a group of scarlet macaws constantly hanging out in a tree right outside our room. And a brave little monkey paid a visit one day as well. The food prepared by Chef Coco was amazing! Everything was sourced locally and made from scratch. He even baked his own bread! Every meal, whether Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner, was a complete culinary experience. Everyone was super friendly and accommodating, everyone will drop what they are doing to make sure you're happy."
