If you are looking for a private, peaceful waterfront experience with panoramic views inches (not feet) from Puget Sound, look no further.
When you step into Tatoosh Lodge, you will feel connected to the ocean. It’s all around you and commands your attention from every single window in the cottage. It’s an early 1900’s beach house so it’s grandfathered on hundreds of feet of private no bank waterfront but the reality is that the homes nearby feel much farther away.
The nearest beachfront homes are roughly 500 feet in each direction, so once you step inside you feel completely alone with the Sea. We love everything about this rustic little home, but if we were going to pick favorites? The sunsets, the birds, the tides, cold plunging in the sea, the sandy beach for miles, the ferries and the sound of the ocean are tops.
Pets aren't allowed on furniture or in the beds. Please do not leave fuzzy home alone. We know from experience that when animals are left alone they get nervous and want to curl up in bed where you sleep and it ends up becoming a major issue for our cleaning crew. If the house is left with extra cleaning from pets and we have to incur additional cleaning charges or the bedding/linens needs to be replaced, we will be forwarding them to you at cost.
Play on the sandy beach, read a book on the upper or lower deck or just lounge by the fire for the big game. BBQ or cook on the gas stove, picnic or eat out in the town of Vashon, it’s your choice. Two bedrooms downstairs with living room, full bath and kitchen upstairs, there are plenty of nooks for you and your group to spread out and recharge. Vashon provides tons of trails, the epic Troll “Oscar the Bird King”, endless beaches to walk and explore, golf, thrifting, bookstores and many many fun shops, coffee spots and restaurants to browse on the main strip.
We look forward to hosting you at our little slice of heaven.
- "My husband and our two dogs came to stay here for a relaxing getaway by the water. This house was perfect for us, cozy, stunning views and decorated amazingly! It had everything we needed, communication was smooth and checking in was easy. We loved staying here and look forward to being able to stay here again in the future!!! "

Not available for weddings, large events or one-night bookings.
This house does have air conditioning to cool off on those hot days.
Because of the tight knit neighborhood, a maximum of six (6) people are allowed at this property at any given time, this includes overnight and daytime guests/visitors.
The Cottage:
Del Mar Cottage is the charming 1920's Air Conditioned cottage by the sea you've been dreaming about. The character of this cottage, from traditional architectural details like crystal door knobs and elegant crown molding with beautiful easy open windows to let the cool sea breeze in, make this get a way a 'must stay'.
The Garden:
Relax on the garden's porch swing while reading and sipping your favorite lemonaid. Later enjoy some stargazing from your luxurious outdoor spa while planning the next day's ferry ride, antiquing or golf game.
The Neighborhood:
Just 15 minutes north of Gig harbor is Del Mar Cottage's tiny neighborhood of South Colby, nestled between Port Orchard, just 5 minutes to the West, or the Southworth ferry dock to Seattle, just 4 minutes the East. This charming cottage seems to have guarded the bay for many, many decades. Make Del Mar Cottage part of your next get away. You'll want to come back every year!
Walks & Dog Lovers: There are several wonderful walks to take your dog on for an adventure. By the way, the house allows a maximum of two dogs, and each dog is a separate pet fee. Del Mar Cottage is one house back from the beach, but there is a quiet, single lane frontage road that is directly on the beach, great for walks and viewing all that the beach has to offer. The frontage road (SE Cornell) is just west of the Del Mar Cottage gate.
Then, just 1/8 of a mile east from the cottage is Harper Pier, overlooking Puget Sound. Continue your walk another 1/8 of a mile to the park just past SE Scatterwood Lane; great for letting the dog run in the fenced little league base ball area.
Across from the park is a natural boat and kayak launch, great for letting the dog play in the water!

- "My family and I had a wonderful stay at this beautiful property. We would love to come back" - "Amazing little house with lots of amenities and close to some really cute town centers with restaurants and shopping. The house has been beautifully kept and the foliage well groomed. Very well stocked kitchen with some “welcome” drinks in the fridge for us. We used the jacuzzi and the fire pit which were both wonderful. Even saw a bald eagle in a tree while sitting on the back porch on our last day! The only suggestion I would have is to have more small trash cans in the bedrooms and living room. Only ones were in the bath and kitchen. Had a great time and will definitely return to this house in the future for vacation."

**We have replaced the wood stove with a propane stove which does a great job of keeping the cabin very cozy. Bring a good book, cup of cocoa, and snuggle up in front of the stove - the perfect way to relax and unwind!
- "Enjoyed our 3 night stay. Cabin was as described and comfortable" - "This was a perfect place for our long weekend on the island. Four adults, two dogs, and we were all very comfortable. The indoor and outdoor spaces were beautiful and serene. We would definitely stay again." - "We love this space- it’s our third time out in a year. West-facing, beachfront cabin that is secluded yet conveniently located within 10 minutes of downtown Vashon Island and less than three miles from the ferry terminal to Seattle and the Olympic Peninsula. Whether you are looking for a short-term escape or a summer relocation for family island living, this property offers you a uniquely amazing experience. Summer rentals are week-long with discounted pricing for month-long rentals or summer-long rentals. The property offers amazing views from all rooms with decks on each level. Every space reminds you that you are in the trees, on the water, and completely removed from urban distractions (which are nearby if you need them).
- "We really enjoyed our stay in the house, it was a little more rustic than expected with the bathroom outside of the main house a little chilly if you needed to visit once you had gone to bed! But the main house with one of the best kitchens and equipment seen in a rental was perfect especially as we ate at the house each day. We really loved having our own access to small beach area with firepit and grill and made use of the canoe and paddle boat provided by the owner. We did have a small issue with the water to the shower which the owner was able to fix quickly for us, the only problem we had was the communication function thru VRBO which was not allowing me to text replies but luckily i had a phone number so could call the owner. overall it was a wonderful experience and would happliy stay again given the opportunity, we loved the location and thought Vashon was charming."

Step back in time to this charming 1935 waterfront cabin. Hike down a steep trail of old growth trees and native sword ferns to our cozy waterfront beach cabin. There are 80 stairs and 7 switchbacks on the walk down and back up again to the road, but the beautiful private location is worth the effort. Enjoy 120' of low bank waterfront facing west. Beautiful sunsets, beach walks, and abundant wildlife await you. This quiet spot will steal your heart. Just 5 minutes from the Vashon ferry dock, and yet feels a world away from busy Seattle.
Remodeled kitchen, "great" room with massive rock fireplace and 2 sets of French doors that open onto the deck overlooking the water. The deck has outdoor seating for lounging and dining. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to prepare your home cooked meals. The cabin sleeps 4, with a queen-size bed in the main floor bedroom, plus 2 full-size futon beds in the attic sleeping room. The bathroom is vintage "beach cabin" with a claw foot tub/shower, plenty of linens, bath towels, and beach towels are available for your stay.
The outdoor space includes a picnic lawn area with a charcoal BBQ grill. One of our favorite spots to enjoy sunsets and evenings is the teak bench down on the edge of the water below the deck.
Fun things to do while at the cabin:
Watch the eagles and cormorants circle the cove from your lounge chair.
Keep an eye out for "Lucy" the local seal to pop her head up, and the blue heron who likes to pose on one leg at the beach.
Walk the rocky beach, exploring the tidelands.
Hike the 3-mile roundtrip to the Vashon Winery through the beautiful Shinglemill Creek Preserve.
Enjoy a camp fire at sunset.
Due to the steep trail with stairs and switchbacks, this beautiful little place will appeal to hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. There are 78 wooden stairs and 8 switchbacks on the trail. This is what islanders call a "walk-in." A backpack will be easier to carry than a suitcase.
- "We adored our stay here with the ocean right outside. There’s a cute loft with two beds that was perfect for our kiddos to hang out, sleep in, & watch the ocean from. They felt like they had their own little club house. Lots of space outside to enjoy the ocean and walk around with our dogs. We enjoyed exploring low tides in the early parts of the day & hearing the ocean lap at high tide in afternoon/evening. A perfect setting for family time and bonding over some favorite games we brought from home. It’s important to note there’s a hike from the car parking to the cabin. It’s gorgeous, but worth keeping in mind— both for packing purposes & if there’s any mobility difficulties for guests. We enjoyed our experience during our stay. Thank you so much to our hosts for sharing your beautiful space & allowing our fur babies to come enjoy it with us! 💖"

- "The house was very spacious and beautiful! We loved all the sitting room and opportunities for privacy. Bedrooms were upstairs and were very large and comfortable. Many windows looked out to the water and it was very relaxing. Kitchen and bathrooms, as well as laundry room all were accessible and great for our group." - "It lived up to expectations. Only issue was no cold water in kitchen and lack of paper products, ie garbage bags paper towels. No trash cans and when trash bags were put in front yard some animal ripped them up."

- "Great relaxing place!" - "This home has absolutely everything. A remarkable view, wonderful layout, ample amenities, and very kind host. I hosted a wellness retreat with a group of women and it could not have been a better location. Yoga on the waterfront grass, group meals in the gorgeous kitchen, sunset kayaking. It was perfect and we will absolutely be coming back!" - "My family flew in from out of state to meet my newborn over the holidays, and we wanted to find a large home to stay due to the small size of our home, and Mike’s waterfront home in Vashon was the perfect retreat! The house was large, with plenty of space for everyone to have their own bedroom. We really appreciated the living area with ample seating and the gorgeous views. We were snowed in during our stay, and were able to cook all of our meals in the generous kitchen. Mike was an extremely helpful and responsive host, updating us when the power went out and with other updates before and during our stay. We were very grateful for the generator during the cold weather. We sadly didn’t get a chance to use the hot tub due to the inclement weather, but it looked lovely! I wouldn’t hesitate to book this home again - it truly is a luxury home!"

Bring your boat and anchor it out front while you explore all the Puget Sound has to offer. Worried about charging your electric vehicle? We got you covered! When you arrive, you immediately feel torn between two time-frames. The quaint little kitchen was carefully put back together with the original shiplap and a farm sink from the 1930s. An all original 1940s refrigerator (yes it still works!) and a vintage butcher-block island that sits atop a modern herringbone tile floor and paired with stainless steel appliances (dishwasher and stove).
Just off of the kitchen sits an equally quaint breakfast nook that can seat 4 adults - wonderful for enjoying all meals or just enjoying the views of the resident black-tailed deer that will routinely stroll through each morning while you enjoy a cup of coffee. This nook is a guest favorite!
Moving into the living room, your attention will be demanded by an all original brick fireplace that ties all the spaces together. This living room, while not large, has a lot to look at with views of the Puget Sound or the vintage eclectic furniture that leaves a unique impression. A cute desk that is just big enough for a laptop to get some work done all while providing you a lovely view. (Please note the open fireplace is non-functional and not to be used).
Just off of the lovely living room there are 2 bedrooms, one of which is the Master where there is a king bed with romantic sconce lighting and a view of the water. The other bedroom which is small but efficiently spaced to host a full bed and your luggage. Beyond the living room you will find a small space that serves as a library, game room or however you want to use it. It is equipped with a 40" LCD TV and a small sofa (and pull-out sofa bed) and an assortment of board games or books for you to kick back and read.
Centrally located between two bedrooms is the spacious and bright full bathroom with a vintage 5ft clawfoot tub and shower. Kick back and take a hot bath while you unwind. For your convenience there is a double vanity allowing guests to share the bathroom in the morning. It is here you will find a well-stocked linen closet with plenty of towels.
Final bedroom is another efficiently used space with a queen bed and vintage vibes to match the atmosphere of the Harper Beachside Escape. Just big enough to feel relaxed and cozy.

- "As a family of 4 with two teenagers we decided to end our month road trip of the north west coast with relaxation and we chose wisely! The house is lovely, the neighbors were really nice and welcoming. We used the canoes and the pool table to impress our teenagers and we thoroughly enjoyed the verander in the evenings after enjoying the lovely walks the area offered. Highly recommend is the local farmers market on Saturday and the restaurant Damn Fine Pizza, couldn’t fault the service, food beer selection or the pinball machines. - "Our family of 4 and 2 dogs enjoyed our stay at the lake. The house is nicely appointed with everything we needed. The lake is lovely and great for kayaking and paddle boarding. Lots of lily pads for viewing beautiful flowers." - "Our stay was great! The house is extremely clean and bright. We enjoyed kayaking around the lake with the kayaks provided and my daughter LOVED fishing right off the yard and caught several species including bass, bluegill, and perch! She also caught a bullfrog which was her pet for the remainder of our trip. The yard is a perfect place to play and enjoy wildlife as well. The host Alexandra is very communicative and makes sure you are all set up for your stay and easy to work with! We are already planning to come visit again! Thanks! "

- "The views from this property are unbelievable. You can whale watch from the backyard. It’s like Alice in Wonderland, the deer, the squirrels, the birds were in abundance during our visit. Little nervous about being beholden to the ferry to get over to Seattle, but the ferry terminal is .3 miles from the house, and super simple to access. I will stay here again. Highly recommend, just not when I’m visiting!" - "Great location with a beautiful home and view. "
