Our home is also on the property (to the left coming up the driveway) the apartment is located above the garage. Steps are located to the left side of the garage. Please do not park in front of the garage doors so we can get our vehicles in and out. We keep it open with lots of room for parking for vehicles and/or snowmobile trailer.

The Portage Centre is the foremost destination for adventure seekers, & large families as it sits at the gateway to the Keweenaw, & is located just steps from the famed Jack Stevens snowmobile trail and Portage Canal.

The building has a long history as The General Glass Company, but the owners recently purchased the building to create the Portage Centre. The Portage Centre is a fully remodeled 3 bed/3 bath luxury home. The guest area consists of the entire 1750 sf main floor while the basement was retained by the owner for storage, caretaker apartment and is inaccessible to guests.

While staying at The Portage Centre, guests do not share spaces or amenities with anyone else. The property is located along Hancock Street (US41) and is in the middle of everything. If you are a light sleeper there is a chance the traffic noise could wake you in the front bedroom. The Master bedroom is located in the rear of the building and traffic will not affect most sleepers. That said, we are in the middle of everything and you can walk to most everything in downtown Houghton and Hancock!

We booked the place to prep for a trip to Isle Royale which was only 40ish minutes away, and could still easily zip back over to Houghton for lots of restaurants and neat things to do."

A cozy retreat nestled in the forest of the UP just minutes from downtown Houghton and the Keweenaw Peninsula. At the top of a wooded driveway, you'll be welcomed by our free-range chicken flock and possibly our cute little Nigerian dwarf goats. This private off-grid farm stay is located on 14 beautiful acres and provides all the amenities you'll need for a memorable stay, including a private deck overlooking our gardens and solar panels.

The 500 sq ft studio loft sleeps up to four guests in a queen bed and comfortable futon. There is a full bathroom and kitchen with cooking basics, including pots and pans, dishes and silverware, coffee and tea, etc. The studio loft is located above our detached garage and has a private entrance that is completely separate from the main house. Parking is located next to the garage and solar powered lights guide the way up the one flight of stairs to the studio loft.

During your stay, you will have the opportunity to take a tour of our small-scale, regenerative farm. On the tour, you will get a chance to meet our two Nigerian dwarf goats and see our honey bee hives. Guests are welcome to hike around the property and visit with our animals. We also offer a variety of unique tours and experiences, including beekeeping, wild mushroom foraging, and a goat happy hour.

We are conveniently located minutes from several trail systems, including the Michigan Tech Trails that are less than a mile away. Our central location allows guests to enjoy day trips to the Keweenaw Peninsula, the Porcupine Mountains, and other scenic gems offered in the western Upper Peninsula. If conditions are right, guests may have the ability to enjoy stargazing and possibly even see the northern lights (assuming cloud-free nights)!

The owner was very pleasant. But the description of the place did not tell me that i had to climb so many steps. The room was very nice. But the shower and barhroom sink, both had hair in them. The table had sticky spots. And the outside of the frig was dirty."

In this room there is a picture of the Sand Point lighthouse where my great uncle was the lighthouse keeper in the 1800’s. The lighthouse is still in existence directly across the bay. In addition to the queen size bed ,there is a twin sofa bed. This room sleeps 3. The bathroom has a tub and shower combination. The bathroom is located in the room. There are steps to climb to reach this room. The new air conditioner will keep you cool. There is an individual electric baseboard heat for your comfort. The electric fireplace also provides warmth.

The trail networks groom for double classic cross country, snow biking, single track mountain biking, snowshoeing, and hiking! Our neighbors are the wildlife! We see beavers swim by morning and evening as we enjoy the sunrise and stunning sunsets over the canal. We watch the deer climb the 250 foot ridge out the backdoor. A quiet country getaway on 20 acres. Located 27 miles from Mt. Bohemia, 15 miles from Houghton, 3 miles from Swedetown Nordic Ski Trails and just down a dirt road from snowmobile Trail 3. Lots of parking space, even for trailers.
