- "You need to know this. Nile View Hotel is not really a hotel. It's 3 buildings in a compound containing basic furnished apartments, but with no reception or 24/7 management. The positives. It's surrounded by quiet farmland, small villages, banana plantations, with a stunning view of the river. It's 2 miles from the bustle of East Luxor and a totally different experience than staying in a tourist hotel downtown. Watch the birds and animals, walk through the fields, chat to locals. The hotel is actually easy to get to once you work it all out. 100 Egyptian pounds taxi from the ferry drop off at East Luxor or a 40 min walk along quiet country lanes. Alternatively, catch a motor boat from nearby Aladdin's Restaurant by Banana Island straight to West Luxor. If/when you find the hotel manager (he doesn't live onsite), he's happy to arrange a taxi for you - we had a local East Bank taxi and driver for the whole day to explore Valley of the Queens etc. for less than 20 Euros. While there's no restaurant at the hotel, Aladdin's is great and less than a 10 min walk - owner of Aladdin's can arrange anything including Felucca rides. Finally, the hotel garden is gorgeous and a wonderful place to chill. The negatives. The manager claims he'll order you food (he'll send a boy to a local shop to buy a beer or soda) but nothing is listed or organized. The pool is unheated. There weren't enough blankets (chilly nights in Dec). This place could be great with some planning."
