Shooting Star Barn is a converted traditional Irish threshing barn situated at the end of a private lane in a very tranquil scenic area with a stunning view of Muckish mountain - Donegals very own table top. Perfect for those seeking a secluded hideaway close to beaches, mountains, forests and stunning countryside.
The space
The barn consists of a large open plan living area with a double bed, sofa and TV with DVD player to watch our large collection of classic movies on (please note there is no TV signal). There is also a games area featuring a full sized American pool table. The kitchen dining area consists of basic cooking facilities with a freestanding 4 ring hob oven with grill, kitchen table and chairs, small fridge freezer and all pots, pans, crockery and cutlery required to enjoy your stay – there is also a basic larder provided (condiments/tea/coffee/pasta/rice). The barn is heated by oil which is managed from our cottage adjacent to the property. There is a small bathroom with shower and amenities.
There is a seating and alfresco dining area out front where you can drink in the stunning view of Muckish mountain along with your favourite wine.

We'd love for you to treat our Donegal converted barn as a home from home. Our own cottage and a few other outbuildings are on the same land these are for our own use and not accessible to our guests.

We are centrally located in a beautiful part of Donegal and we have some stunning walks on our doorstep in lanes around a traditional Irish working bogland. With only a ten minute drive to Glenveagh National Park, Ards Forest Park, Dunfanaghy village and the beaches at Downings and Atlantic drive this is the ideal location for a peaceful or active holiday - your choice! It would also make an ideal artists retreat with an abundance of outstanding natural beauty right on your doorstep. For cyclists, climbers and those who want a more active holiday this is a great base to explore the surrounding areas.
The barn is approx. 3 miles from the local village Creeslough which means ‘Belt of Lakes’ and you will see why when visiting the area as we are surrounded by fantastic trout fishing lakes (permits available online in advance). There is also a convenience store that opens to 10pm most days and stocks most items you may need during your stay. The village also has a campsite, a few cafés, ice cream parlour, two pubs and a takeaway. There is also a large hardware store, pharmacy, health centre, schools and church.
A visit to Glenveagh National Park is a must which is an area of outstanding natural beauty and if you are very lucky you may see a Golden Eagle soaring above Glenveagh Castle during your visit.
Your visit would not be complete without a trip to Ards Friary and Ards Forest Park both of which are approx. 10 mins drive from the house. Ards Friary is a working Franciscan retreat nestled at the edge of Ards estuary and overlooking the entrance to the Atlantic. There are some wonderful walks and a very nice café for your well-deserved coffee and tray bake after the walk.
Ards Forest Park is an Irish national park that has a multitude of walks to suit all types from casual walkers to more experienced hikers. The park itself has a bird sanctuary, marshlands, beaches, a playpark and is the perfect place to visit in any weather…on hot days this can get busy so get there early. Ards Coffee Tree takeaway coffee shop is in the car park of Ards Forest Park with lovely picnicking and barbecue areas throughout the park, so bring your own packed lunch or disposable BBQ and enjoy the views! Please note there is a 5 euro entrance fee payable by debit card only.
Finally you will find Dunfanaghy village and Carrigart/Downings close by both of which have stunning beaches and a choice of sports such as kayaking, surfing, golf and horse-riding alongside places to eat out and pubs. Letterkenny is only 20 minutes drive where you will find plenty of shopping choices, restaurants and pubs.

Situated around the Bank walk ten minute's from town alongside the River Eske,The house uses solar panels to heat power showers. The neighborhood is a very quiet and is a relaxed welcoming place. The Guesthouse is a stand alone property in the grounds of our home. On entering the building you are greeted by a comfortable open plan space which houses the living room, a modern kitchen/dining room & a fully equipped utility space with washer/dryer/freezer. The living area has a very comfortable double sofa bed ideal for adults or children. The large bedroom has 2 double beds with plenty of space for a travel cot (not included) etc. The shower room has a large shower with a towel storage area. The space is ideal for families with children.

Guests have the full use of all the Guesthouse and the garden outside. There is a front door and double doors to the side for wheelchair access. It is an extremely safe area and property has gates with plenty of parking space. Motorbike users can avail of our private enclosed garage for protected parking.

Our guesthouse is ideal for families and couples for a tranquil and peaceful stay. It is also perfect for workers who are based in the area mid week as we have safe parking for vans etc on site.
