Wanting accommodation that offers an experience rather than just a bed? The Surf Shak is perfect for people that have a sense of adventure and a love of the unique. Only a couple of minutes walk to the beach, most days you can hear the sea from bed.

The Surf Shak is a separate sleep-out, with a number of its own amenities plus a bathroom shared in the main house. One double bed is situated on its own floor, looking out to the trees (access via ladder) or there is also a double pull out couch.

The space
The Shak has been decorated over time by Owner and resident artist Wayne of the Hill and various other Surf shak guests. Just looking around would keep you entertained. We would love you to add your own artist touch too!
**If you're used to a life of luxury the surf shak may not be for you!!

Paddle boards and Surf boards are avaliable by arrangement with Wayne who will take you for a lesson first (safety)

Wayne lives in the main house and is often available if you have any questions or feel like a chat.

The Whimsical Studio is a light, spacious and private wee haven. Fully self-contained with a larger bathroom, awesome shower and a well equipped kitchen. Surrounded by nature with a covered deck and cute courtyard to enjoy the beautiful outlook across the paddocks towards Taramea Bay & beyond. We have an array of birdlife to observe and a resident Kereru. By night stargazing is easy with the wide open sky while listening to the creek, the sea, frogs & morepork.

The space
With the covered deck designed to create space and maximize your viewing pleasure rain or shine on comfortable outdoor furniture. Its also a great space to dry wet tramping gear. Warm and toasty for winter, a mini heat pump that doesn't feel all that mini, heating the space in minutes.

We have always called our wee cabin "The Granny Flat", even though it has never been used as one. Heated with a night-store heater that keeps the flat cozy and warm.

Just a minute's walk to a great swimming beach that often has Hector's dolphins right inshore. Situated on a double section which has the owner's residence next door. Enter through the shared gate on the driveway, to access your stand alone, one bedroom flat with everything you need. Then relax and enjoy the birdsong.

Welcome to our newly built self contained unit on our Southland sheep farm. The unit is a magical spot where you are completely separate and private. It contains a queen bed, a small kitchen with a cooktop and microwave. There is a new BBQ located outside which you are welcome to use for cooking. There is a large well appointed bathroom and a nice private outdoor area to enjoy a drink, catch up on emails or read a book.

The space
We live in a great part of Southland. You will enjoy the peace and quiet of the rural lifestyle while enjoying great views and interacting with the friendly sheep outside your bedroom. We are close to the Mataura and Waikaia rivers for excellent trout fishing as well as a fishing stream on the farm. You can also access nice walks at Piano Flat around 25 minutes drive and the town of Gore is a 30 minute drive.

We have a 100 year old cosy cottage that we have recently added a new kitchen and bathroom onto.
Your guaranteed a good nights sleep with brand new velvet curtains cushioning you in.
During the day rays of sunshine light up Stump cottage so take advantage of the outdoor furniture.
The local pub, cafe, park and Super market is a quick walk or minutes drive down the road.
The Oreti river is a quick walk or drive away, a beautiful way to spend an afternoon.

The space
Stump cottage is very private, hidden behind big hedges and trees. It has it’s own private carpark within the property right beside the cottage.
If you look at Stump cottage you’ll notice it’s on a-bit of a lean! That’s it’s uniqueness! Half old, half new.
It’s very close to the village of Lumsden, Oreti river, cycle trail and other destinations that you can take a day trip to.
Southland has so much to offer so this is a great cosy nook to either spend a night or use while you explore the surrounding’s.

Stump cottage is completely separate from the main house. As the guests drive in the driveway into their allocated parking spot they will be able to access the cottage at the door above the wooden steps with the glass door to enter.

We have a washing machine and dryer that can be used on request.

Off road parking space available. My home is less than 5 minutes drive/20 minutes walk to the shopping centre. Te Anau lake is 10 minutes walk from my home. Milford Sound is 2 hours drive away.

During your stay
Your stay in my beautiful home is important, I’d like you to feel relaxed to socialise with me if you wish. The shared spaces are yours to use, watch NZ programs, Netflix, Acorn TV. A tv is in your room for your entertainment but no wifi. I worked in Milford Sound for 4.5 years and any questions on this amazing place please ask.
