- "Goregeous views, helpful staff, fun snorkeling " - "My wife and I had a truly wonderful stay in the Calaloo villa for our joint 60th birthdays. Hermosa is a small complex of private villas set within lush tropical gardens. It has its own, small private beaches, cascading swimming pools and two restaurants and a bar. All the villas are individually designed and quite quirky, especially the tree house. Calaloo is spacious, comfortable and well equipped with lounge and kitchen on ground floor and bedroom and bathroom upstairs via outside staircase and large, wrap-around balcony. It also has outdoor eating area next to a small private plunge pool. The staff were all fantastic - very welcoming and friendly and overall service was top notch. We are both vegetarian and the food was excellent throughout our stay. There are plenty of places to relax around the main beach and pools and the restaurants and bar have great views across the water. The peaceful beach is sandy but has a small stony area to cross to get to swimming depth. Once beyond the stones there is plenty of sand and good snorkeling around the kelp and rocky outcrops. Ocho Rios town is a 20 minute walk and a hectic but an interesting diversion from the serenity of the Cove. Dunn's River Falls are highly recommended and just a short taxi ride away. One of our best ever holidays, highly recommended and so much better than the expensive all inclusive we stayed at in Montego Bay earlier in the holiday. "

All staff from security guard to front desk to restaurant are very nice! Walls are very thin so don't be afraid to knock on a guest's front door and nicely let them know you are trying to sleep. - "Many of the rooms for various different hotels in the area are often marked with different names, which imply it is a separate property, though this is misleading. Unfortunately, Sandcastles, where I have stayed previously, practices this. Though the room is called "Sandy Shores", this "property" is just another room at Sandcastles Hotel. If like myself you have problems, this becomes a deal breaking detail. The first day in this room, we had no hot water. This was eventually sorted out, but unprofessional nonetheless. The second day was definitely the deal breaker, as power was lost to the entire block we were staying. Power was loss around noon, and wasn't restored until after 8 pm. Prior to this, I spoke with the front desk about the inconvenience, and that as we had an infant, being without electricity for this many hours was unacceptable. They offered to bring us some hot water to help with care of the child, but advised though they couldn't give an exact time for when power would be restored, "promised" it would be back later that night. I advised the only fix is to switch rooms/blocks, but was informed this a "private" property, and is not managed by Sandcastles, thus they cannot modify the reservation. This blew my mind, as nowhere in the listing is this mentioned. This is a critical detail, and should be disclosed. I reached out to Expedia, whom began the room switch process, but the power came back during the call, so no changes were made. This practice should stop."

- "I don’t really know where to begin but to say DON’T DO IT! First of all, there really is no “Mermaid Suites at Sandcastles” We asked a taxi where it is. They didn’t know and we were 1 block from the place. The name of the hotel is Sandcastles. The front desk at Sandcastles were confused when we asked about Mermaid suites. It’s a marketing ploy and it worked on us. (Fool me once...) Each “suite or room” is privately owned and managed by a management company NOT the front desk. I reserved an ocean view suite and apparently, they let the previous tenant stay an extra day so we ended up in an old dumpy dumpster view room. The sad part was that they had someone escort us to the “room” and never told us about the change hoping we would forget what we reserved. The “room” was falling apart in front of us and we had no choice but to stay the night and leave. Don’t let the pictures fool you, they were taken 40 years ago when the place was new. Told the front desk it wasn’t what we reserved and there was no other ocean view suites so they offered us a very small refund. I wouldn’t pay that for the room. The 4 people in the lobby with us were dealing with the same issue and there was NO communication. The only redeeming factor in it all was that Expedia gave us a coupon to cover the cost of the room. Terrible first day in Jamaica. DON’T DO IT!!"
