- "We enjoyed both the location and the property. The white carpet had a few spots but furniture in living room was new and patio furniture was very comfortable. Kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked. The ability to use the two kayaks was a bonus! Beach is huge and very sandy over all. I would recommend bringing an adult life vest if you want to use these. Property manager was very attentive and the setting was very serene. Only thing that would have made it better would be a fire pit on the beach."

STONINGTON CLEARVIEW COTTAGE
SLEEPS: 2 comfortable (4 environmentally conscientious people is the absolute max due to water conservation)
BEDROOMS: 1 + loft = 2 sleeping rooms
BATHROOMS: 1- full
*LAKEFRONT (Lake Michigan)
*PETS ARE WELCOMED
*No air conditioning!
Did you used to like to camp, yet crave a comfortable bed, and prefer indoor plumbing you don't need to share with your neighbors? Are you environmentally conservative with your water usage? Do you love to sit by the fire, relaxing and taking in the view? Is a sandy beach a bonus for you? If so, this is the ideal cabin for you!
At the point between Little Bay de Noc and Big Bay de Noc, this cabin is ideal for capturing the beauty of Lake Michigan. Watch the freighters pass by on gorgeous Lake Michigan. Have your morning coffee while you watch the eagles soar overhead, or take the view in from behind the big picture window in the cabin. Sunsets are spectacular here! Enjoy the privacy and solitude without immediate neighbors. This cozy cabin, and its tranquil location, will capture your heart as you find respite from busy schedules and everyday stress. It would be an ideal writer's retreat, or a quiet, cozy get-away for an environmentally conscientious couple. This cabin is ideally situated for active exploration. Bring your bike and enjoy miles of well-paved, quiet roads winding past bucolic farms, or bring your kayak. The clear, shallow waters of the quiet cove are perfect for kayakers. Anglers will enjoy the outstanding fishing opportunities at Big Bay and Little Bay De Noc. Enjoying hiking miles of trails within driving distance of the Stonington.
We are happy to announce that the beach in front of the Stonington Clearview Cottage is wide and sandy at the moment (May 2016) . It's been an ideal beach since the ice melted. Still, the tides do change at times, and in 2014, we did not have a beach. Therefore, if the beach is a bonus, and not a necessity, you'll love it here! The pathway down to the beach has some sea grass, yet it an easy stroll, all within 50 feet of the cottage door.
Water conservation at the cottage is not only nice, it is essential. The water system needs to be purged for 30 seconds each morning to clear the filter. This is easily done by pressing the button located in the master bedroom. We have a 45 gallon holding tank. Once the tank runs dry, it fills at a rate of 6 gallons/hour. The daily amount of water most people normally use in their homes in the city would be excessive here. Daily showers for a family of 4, especially if you have average teenagers, in addition to multiple dish washings and toilet flushing (especially by teens or older family members) could result in a loss of water pressure before the week is out. Yes, sometimes the water will appear to have a brownish tint-- that is solely due to the iron in the water. Go green in this beautiful lakefront cottage!
Drinking water is provided during your stay at the Stonington Cottage. A water cooler is provided at the cabin, so you will have plenty of drinking water during your stay at the Clearview Stonington Cottage.
Cara's favorite point about this cottage: This unique location--- right at the tip of the Stonington Peninsula, where the Little and Big Bay De Noc meet in Lake Michigan. I love that it gives you a great vantage point to see the freighters. The fire pit is set up perfectly.
Beds: Main floor: 1 Queen Bed
Upstairs (open loft): 2 double/full-sized beds.
**Caution-- even though we have plenty of bedroom space, the challenge for most people at this beautiful cabin is the strict water conservation that is required for your stay. Therefore, 2 is the ideal number of people at the Stonington Cottage.**

Frequently Asked Questions: (FAQ)
Beach: This is a small, natural, Lake Michigan beach. The beach varies between sandy and no sand (due to high water levels.)
Grill: Yes, there is a charcoal grill at the cottages. Please bring your own charcoal.
Monarch Butterflies: The Stonington Peninsula plays a vital role in the monarch butterfly's migration. Each year in September, thousands of monarchs converge on the Stonington Peninsula before migrating across Lake Michigan to Wisconsin on their trek to adulthood. Book now to witness one of the Stonington Peninsula's naturally occurring phenomena! This yearly event is something that brings happiness to Guests of all ages!
Pets are welcome! Freshwater Vacation Rentals currently charges $75/per pet.
Water: Many of our guests, and the owner's themselves, have no problem with the water. Still, we have found that people from the city, who are used to an unlimited amount of water at all times have run the well dry during their stay, and have had to wait a few hours for it to slowly refill. There is a brown tinge to the water. Therefore, we supply drinking water to ease the mind of guests. This is a shallow well. We always like to fully disclose any potential hiccups.
- "This family vacation was great and much needed. Our stay was great! Our 12 year old and Labrador enjoyed swimming in the lake every day. The beach was lovely to walk on anytime of day. We enjoyed watching the storms roll in while sitting in front of the picture window. We are looking forward to returning! Yes, you do need to be mindful when using the water, but that was minor due to all the amenities this place has to offer." - "We stayed at Stonington Clearview cottage for a week enjoyed our time there immensely. Once you dial in the water conservation. You can just soak up the views and enjoy the beach and quiet setting. This was are second year and we intend to make it annually. 👍👍👍"

Enjoyed exploring the UP from this location." - "The house was perfect for grandma and grandpa, mom and dad and three children. Clean and cozy. Tastefully decorated. Room for everybody. The yard is huge for running and playing. What a nice surprise when we opened the garage door to find a fun space for "hanging out". The town is quiet and peaceful, surrounded by natural beauty and an abundance of history. The town is very walker friendly. We all walked to the playground and to the fishing pier where the kids caught and released pearch. The Nahma Inn is a short walk away. We enjoyed several visits there. The mudslide dessert was the kids favorite. We went for short drives and found a good swimming beach. Bring your water shoes because of stoney bottom. Our trip to Nahma was a great escape from the real world and a perfect place to focus on the family."

Highly recommend!" - "Our 3rd year at this property... We will be back for year 4." - "The stay was awesome per usual! Very secluded property with a pond to fish for Bluegill and swim. Highly recommended" - "The cabin and property are so beautiful and quiet. Just what we needed. The cabin was very clean and well stocked. They made sure we had firewood for the week at no extra charge. The property manager, Zac, was super nice and helpful. Close to beaches, Lake Michigan, several golf courses, and just far enough from Escanaba and Gladstone. Or just sit and relax at the cabin or take a walk on the many groomed trails on the 160 acre property. We watched the turkeys and deer every day. The mattress in the master bedroom was very firm. But the mattress in the 2nd bedroom was soft and comfortable. This cabin is a 1-1/2 bath. The only shower/bath tub is in the master bedroom. Not a problem for the two of us, but if my brother, his wife, and son would have come with us, it would have been an issue. We are planning on staying here again some day."

- "I wanted to go to Florida for my son's spring break, but he wanted to do something different from all his friends, so we ended up in the UP, and I am glad we did! I don't think I have seen a better sunset anywhere! The house is beautiful, with an amazing great room, killer kitchen and the master bathroom has the largest shower I have ever been in!The beach is sandy, wild and rugged (given the time of year, we did not go in the water)The firepit with supplied firewood was quite the added bonus. We will definitely be back in summer to swim and kayak!"

There are four bedrooms total, three upstairs and one downstairs, two sleeper sofa beds with 1 full bath downstairs and a 3/4 bath in the garage area. The Village of Fairport is a super unique and beautiful place to enjoy.
Here is a little bit of history, this house was built on Saint Martin island, and moved to its current location in Fairport from the island during the winter of 1883 or 84 using horse drawn skids across the ice of Lake Michigan. This is a distance of approximately 9 miles. The current is strong and it rarely freezes in this channel between big data knock and the open waters of Lake Michigan. But during the mid-1800s, most of the world experience various odd weather phenomenon because of the volcanic eruption of Krakatoa in Indonesia. Those winter’s were very hard. Winter started early and stayed late. This explains why the ice between Saint Martin island and the Garden Peninsula with solid enough to support house moving. This weather information is detailed in Carl Bohnak’s, former WLUCTV6 chief meteorologist, book “So Cold a Sky”. This information was also confirmed by lifelong residence in Fairport, and the historic books left in the house.
- "Lovely place to stay. The garage space was great to hang out in. We spent most of our time there! Sunsets were fun to watch down at the marina right down the street! Wish it was more of a sandy waterfront but we made it work but still great to be right on the water. Overall great stay and the host was great to work with." - "This little getaway was just what we were looking for. Some fishing and relaxing. Place was very clean, house was stocked with everything you could imagine. Loved the garage, we practically lived in it. Plan on using it again."

We had the 3 bedroom 2 bath with kitchen and loved the location and the set up of our little suite. Our location was fantastic to our friends who live less than a mile away. The communication prior to our trip was excellent and the breakfast (continental) was perfect. We spent 3 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. We did not have time to walk the grounds but everyone we met said it is beautiful. We will be back!!! Out of 5 stars, we give 10 stars!!!! Thank you!"
