- "We can't give this place or the hosts enough stars! I wish there were an option for a 10 star review and even that seems to minimal. The listing and photos are exact. Zach and Jackie send you videos of the whole check in process on top of the email with instructions. By far the easiest check in and check out due to their thoroughness. We are a family that likes to cook. The kitchen had everything we needed plus more. There were even glass storage containers for leftovers. The arcade games are a huge plus!! The beds were very comfortable and the rooms very spacious. There were so many little touches that some may feel aren't much, but are when you realize you need them. For example: when there are no hangers in the closets. This unit has huge closets and lots of hangers so we did not have to go buy any or live out of our luggage. They provided shampoo, conditioner, and body wash for those families that may forget to pack those items. We love that there was a washer and dryer for clothes and of course they provided laundry pods and dryer sheets. Again, the little things that truly add up and are a step above! The location is walking distance to all of the bars, restaurants, shops, and the downtown "mall". We could write a book of how wonderful our stay was. Even though we would like to keep this little gem a secret so it is always available for when we need it, we urge everyone to experience it for themselves. My only complaint was that the bathroom barn door would not stay shut on its own." - "We enjoyed our short stay in this cute little cottage. Despite being on a corner, the property is very private. The little sandy beach space is just enough to sit and soak up the sun. There are a couple kayaks available for use as well as a stand up paddle board. The property is just a quick drive from plenty of places to eat and drink in Kalamazoo. Our last morning there we sat outside to have our coffee and watch a family of swans on the beach. - "It was great! It suited our needs perfectly." - "We booked this unit for a long weekend when we were attending an event in the area. The unit was super clean and comfortable, with newer kitchen appliances. We appreciated the washer/dryer present within the unit, and there were plenty of bathroom linens. The millpond was charming, and often had geese and ducks on it. The unit was very quiet, and we heard no one next door or above us. I agree with the previous review regarding the overwhelming smell of marijuana in the stairwell. Since cannabis use is legal in MI however, I'm not sure what the unit owners can be expected to do about it unless there is a no smoking policy within the building. The smell does not creep into the unit unless you leave the door open, which we avoided. The absence of kitchen linens is interesting because it simply forced us to use more paper towels, which I would think the owners would try to avoid. But these were small things, and did not detract from our overall good experience. We would stay there again without hesitation!"

TV is bolted down to the mantel I'm guessing so it can't fall off, but I wanted to connect my computer to it with a cable and couldn't. The fridge needs to be defrosted and it froze all My food ruining it. There is one remotely comfortable chair and the rest looks like office furniture. If more than 1 person is looking for a place to stay, this isn't it, it's too small especially if you have kids. Owner needs to add some floor lamps for an option of something other than bright LEDs overhead."

Please be aware: this is a finished basement apartment and we live upstairs. We have a dog and a little boy who like to run around and make noise. It is an older home with original wood flooring and not soundproof. You will hear floor creaks and sounds while we are home. This stay is not ideal if you're sensitive to noise.

There is no full kitchen, only a kitchenette. It includes: sink, mini refrigerator, microwave and a toaster oven.

This space is not ideal for long stays, nor is it ADA sufficient. Ceiling height in basement is 7 feet.

This is a fully underground basement apartment. The bedrooms are the only two rooms that have windows to the outside.

Temperature: each room has its own heater/air conditioner/fan.

The home is in a very safe and family oriented suburban neighborhood.

You will be literally one block from WMU’s campus in a beautiful and quiet residential neighborhood where we have resided for over 10 years. You will be one block from a bus route stop that’s quite reliable. Several restaurants are also within walking distance. Ask us about our favorites :-)

Your room is the middle room of three on the top floor. It has two doors, two closets, two lamps and two windows. It has a table, easy chair, night table and dresser.

Your room is steps away from a half-bath, overlooks a rolling hills backyard.

Spring 2021: Please note that we are excited about a decision to embark on a complete makeover to our main bathroom yet ask that you excuse the temporary inconvenience. During this time we have created a fully functional, tiled shower in our laundry room (also with locks as of Spring 2021) with fantastic water pressure. Yes, the cinder blocks that form the shower surround may look a little like funky army barracks, painted and waterproofed. We keep it clean, simple, bright and functional and you can still run a load of laundry while you shower without affecting the water pressure!! How’s that for hydraulic engineering :-)

I’m still working on this house to remove the white washing/HGTVing of this house, but progress is being made and some of the painted over beautiful wooden trim is starting to show!

The home does sit on a slight hill and is not appropriate for visitors in the winter who do not have 4 wheel/all-wheel drive.

Perfect place for 2 guests (max) in a walk out level guest suite located in the suburbs of Kalamazoo. Safe, beautiful and peaceful neighborhood! NO SHARED SPACES/SEPARATE OUTDOOR ENTRANCE WITH KEYPAD. Relax in a large suite with queen bed, remodeled bathroom, kitchenette, desk, and 40” HD tv with Roku. Less than 1 mile from West Main Street, US 131, KalHaven Trail and many stores and restaurants. WMU, Kalamazoo College, Bronson Hospital, I94 and downtown are all just a 10-15 minute drive.

The space
THE LOCATION
Located in the quiet suburbs of Kalamazoo, MI but LESS than a mile from US 131 and West Main Street (M43). I-94 is just about a 5 minute drive. The Downtown Kalamazoo area is about a 10 minute drive. We are also located in close driving proximity to Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College and Kalamazoo Valley Community College. The Kal Haven crushed limestone trailhead is located just 1.5 miles away and is perfect for a nature stroll or if you’re an adventurer, you can bike all the way to Lake Michigan! The beautiful shores of Lake Michigan are just a 45 minute drive West.

THE LARGE SPACE
This is a large guest suite. It’s located on the walk out, garden level of my single family home in Kalamazoo, MI (Oshtemo Township). It is about 700 square feet and there are NO stairs to access the space or within it (you do have to step up to the curb, onto the sidewalk from the street). On street parking is less than 50 feet from the entrance, making coming and going with your luggage fast and convenient. This is an open concept space, with a comfortable queen size bed, loveseat, 40” HD tv with Roku and DVD player, kitchenette (NO STOVE/OVEN), BRAND NEW en suite bathroom and walk in closet. You will love the thoughtful extra touches such as a luggage rack, first aid kit, extension cord, ironing board, fan, hair dryer, full length mirror, nightlights, wine opener and wine glasses, shot glasses, beer mugs, playing cards, board games, puzzles, reading materials, DVD’s and much more!

THE CLEANLINESS
I do all of the cleaning myself and pride myself on extreme cleanliness! There will never be any shortcuts taken. ALL of the linens are washed between guests, every time. You will ALWAYS have clean sheets, pillows, towels, wash cloths and blankets plus extras in the closet. The bathroom and kitchenette will always be disinfected between guests. I spend hours meticulously cleaning between guests. I provide shampoo, body soap, hand soap, toilet paper, paper towel and cleaning supplies.

THE HOST
I care! You are guaranteed a clean, welcoming stay. I have been hosting for 8 years and have hosted hundreds of guests! I always answer messages quickly and consider hosting to be my profession. I am happy to help and I want you to love my place as much as I do!

Please keep in mind that this is a guest suite located in a single family home on the basement, walk out level and as such, the amenities are limited. There is not a stove, air conditioner or washer/dryer BUT most guests find the full size kitchen sink, fridge/freezer, toaster and microwave to be sufficient. PLUS, the guest suite stays naturally cool in summer, due to being located on the garden level of the home with lots of shade trees surrounding it and the home above it being central air conditioned. If the windows and drapes are kept closed during the afternoon, the temperature rarely exceeds 70 degrees even in 90 degree outdoor heat. A fan is provided for your comfort and I am able to recool the space as necessary, since the upper level has central A/C.

The guest suite includes one queen bed. If needed, an air mattress can be set up upon request for the second guest with a minimum of 24 hour notice.

*THIS GUEST SUITE IS COMPLETELY PRIVATE AND DOES NOT SHARE ANY SPACE WITH THE HOMEOWNER, but I live upstairs with my husband and 2 (older) children and there definitely is some noise transfer.*

Cable tv is not provided; however, you can sign in via the provided Roku with your own cable subscriber, Netflix, Hulu or Amazon accounts. You can also access lots of free apps and channels already downloaded for you or enjoy one of more than 200 DVD’s provided!

PLEASE NOTE-Animals are NOT allowed in the home or on the property. Service animals trained to perform a task for their owner, that stay with their owner 24/7 are welcome. The service animal must NOT be left alone at anytime. Emotional support animals are NOT service animals and are not accepted due to the homeowner’s allergies. The space
We are the new owners of this charming 100 year old, multi-unit, Craftsman style home on the edge of downtown. There are three units in this home; two on the second floor and one on the first. You will have your own 1-bedroom studio apartment with a full bath and full kitchen. There is no living room, but the bedroom and kitchen space is ample and you have access to a three season porch, which is a lovely space for a cup of coffee in the morning. Shared laundry in the basement. On-site parking.

Guest access
In addition to your own apartment in this home, you will have access to a shared three season porch on the second floor. This is a lovely place to have a cup of coffee in the morning or to just sit and enjoy the morning sunshine.

You will have access to the back staircase and back door, for easy access to the parking. The back stairs are somewhat narrow and steep and are shared by all three units. Please be considerate of other guests.

Other things to note
Heating/Cooling:
This house does not have central air conditioning. Each unit has it's own individual cooling system including fans, and mini-splits, and window AC units. Please feel free to open windows if you are not using the air conditioning. We ask that you monitor the weather and close the windows accordingly.

In the winter, this house is run off a single pipe steam boiler. Some units may run on the warmer side. Feel free to open a windows to adjust the temperature to your liking. However, please DO NOT attempt to adjust the heat, using the valves or vents on the registers themselves. This will have an adverse effect on the entire system. If you are cold, there are individual space heaters located in the closets of each unit.

Kitchen essentials:
Due to space, we have only essential items available in the kitchen, including pots, pans and a place setting for 2. If you needs something specific, please feel free to ask. We have items on reserve.

Bathroom essentials:
Please use the black wash clothes or provided makeup remover pads. Please do not use the white towels for cleaning up spills, makeup, blood, or mud. There is a set of non-white towels in the bathroom wall cabinet.
We have rags in the kitchen utility closet.
Also, there is drawer in the bathroom vanity that has useful items like a hair dryer and first aid kit.

Bedroom:
There is a duvet comforter in the black trunk at the foot of the bed.

Bedroom closet:
Iron, ironing board, space heaters, fans can be found in this closet.

Nestled in the middle of an 8-year in-progress 1-acre permaculture food forest and garden. Feel free to wander the woodchip paths on the property, take your shoes off, and ground :) Sit on your private deck with your morning tea or coffee and enjoy the abundance of flora and fauna, star gaze, watch fireflies, bird and goose migrations, and hear the songs from crickets, tree frogs, or owls pending their season. The space
This spacious 2-Bedroom / 1 Bath apartment is situated in one of Kalamazoo's most vibrant neighborhoods--only 5 minutes from The Western Michigan University. Enjoy the many local restaurants, shops, and eateries in the area.

-The living room provides a smart TV with Netflix, Hulu, Prime and other channels that you can log into. Although you'll have two spacious bedrooms, if you have a larger group, the sofa bed will accommodate two additional members of your family/group.

Our high-speed internet connection means you don't have to wait an eternity to enjoy your show after a long day exploring.

-Both of your spacious bedrooms boast a luxuriously comfortable queen-size bed. Seriously, we challenge you to find a more comfortable bed. The room is equipped with a dedicated space for those of you who are working remotely. Extra blankets, bedsheets, and pillows will be provided in case you need more.

-The kitchen is equipped with all of your cooking essentials. It features a 4-burner electric stove/oven and a large refrigerator with water dispenser. It is also equipped with essential counter appliances such as a coffee maker (complete with creamer, sugar and coffee), microwave, and toaster. However, we doubt you'll spend much time cooking in the kitchen after you've tried some of Kalamazoo's finest cuisine from local restaurants in the area.

-The bathroom provides a large tub/shower, so you can bathe or shower after a long day exploring the city. We've also provided all of the necessary amenities: shampoo, body wash, hand soap and towels. So leave those 3.4 Ozs containers at home, because you're not going to get stopped by TSA this time.

While you may be in downtown, it's not downtown parking. Ample parking is available for free in the building's parking lot.

Whether you are only in town for a few nights or longer, this place is perfect for those who want to experience a stylish apartment while enjoying Kalamazoo.

You'll have access to the whole apartment. You'll get the code to enter the building and into your apartment located on the 2nd floor. Its only 4 or 5 steps you have to take.

This is a big one. We’re not here to ruin anybody’s fun, but this unit has some rules which are more or less common sense, but this is just a friendly reminder!

The SimcoeRillo room has the most amazing view of the sloping backyard with a forested canopy at the back of the property with a quadruple window across the back wall. Hardwood floors, a twin size bed, a curtained closet, an open closet, a tall dresser, card table, throw rugs and lamps complete the bedroom amenities. It is just across the hall from a shared half bath and has two lockable doors.

Other than the other guest bedrooms and the host’s bedroom, feel free to enjoy the full range of the house and the yard!

The space
Please be aware: this is a finished basement apartment and we live upstairs. We have a dog and a little boy who like to run around and make noise. It is an older home with wood floor and not soundproof. You will hear floor creaks and sounds while we are home. This stay is not ideal if you're sensitive to noise.

Only 4 guests allowed in this unit, if you are requiring more, you need to disclose this in your inquiry/message as there will be a fee for extra people. If we suspect that there were more than the indicated amount of people, we will charge you an additional cleaning fee per extra person. If we feel you’ve exceeded the amount of people we feel comfortable in our home, you will be asked to leave immediately.

Kitchenette includes: sink, mini refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, portable cooktop, basic utensils.

This space is not ideal for long stays, nor is it ADA sufficient. Ceiling height in basement is 7 feet.

This is a fully underground basement apartment. The bedrooms are the only two rooms that have windows to the outside.

Temperature: each room has its own heater/air conditioner/fan. You can also message us and we can adjust the heat/cool settings.

The home is in a very safe and family oriented suburban neighborhood.

You will need to go down a flight of stairs to get to your basement unit from the main floor.

The door that leads to the basement can be left open or closed. Your preference.

Other things to note
Because there is little noise barrier between our space upstairs and yours, carefully re-consider this space if you're looking for something completely quiet.

Please be mindful and aware of your noise level,l during the late and early morning hours 🙂
