We were pleased with all of the extra COVID precautions (no bedspreads, almost everything in kitchen removed except for plates/glasses/utensils for 6 people). And almost everyone in town was wearing masks, seemed respectful of and observing social distancing norms, etc. The location was great - very close to Vons, restaurants, the village. We went on several great hikes, and just enjoyed a few days of mountain air. We look forward to returning! The property managers can take a few hours to reply via text. That didn't end up being an issue for us, but I must say that I'm used to quicker response times when renting places. "

- "Great location room and staff" - "The hot breakfast (7am-10am) was amazing and buffet style. It was any combination of scrambled eggs, French toast, quesadilla, grilled cheese, sausage, Greek yogurt, and fruit. With plenty of pots of coffee, milk, and orange juice. They always had a water refill station and an ice machine. The Jacuzzi was hot and right next to the lobby. Easily walkable to the bus station for the redline. Right behind a strip mall where you had black velvet coffee, Schatz, bakery, liberty bar, etc.. Staff is Friendly. The shower water was hot. After reading previous reviews, I brought an eye mask and earplugs and didn’t have any issues with sleeping at night. I would suggest leaving your car in the parking lot and taking the bus as the lot gets full pretty quick"

The space
Our private one bed/one bath studio is located in the heart of Crowley Lake, California. Nestled in the Sierra Nevada mountains between Bishop (30 minutes away) and Mammoth Lakes (20 minutes away.)
This studio features some lake views from the wrap around windows, full kitchen, full bathroom, wood floors, and modern electronics.
We provide complimentary K-cup coffee, sugar and liquid creamer singles. We provide towels, toilet paper, hair dryer and hotel bathroom amenities. We have extras of everything upon request.
The studio sleeps 2 comfortably with a queen bed. The closet has an iron and board, Swiffer sweeper, bagless vacuum, broom & dustpan, toilet plunger and hangers.
We recently added an electric outlet to the driveway area so that electric car owners can charge their vehicles. For this convenience, we will charge those guests $10/day.

Guest access
There is parking available in the driveway and paver stairs to climb to get to the studio entrance. The driveway has a spotlight you can turn on from inside the studio. The stairs are well lit with solar lights and a porch light at the entry door. We are working on a new fence in the backyard so we advise to keep out of that area, there could be hazards and we don't want you to get hurt during your trip.

Other things to note
We have a welcome booklet with the most important information to make your stay convenient and comfortable on the console to your right as you walk in the front door.

As much as we too love our fur babies, we are not set up for visiting animals and we DO NOT allow any pets or emotional support animals in the studio. Our own dog has never even seen the inside. We do this so that allergy prone guests can rent the place without worry. We cannot, and will not, risk the safety and peace of mind of another guest. Also, our dog has issues with other animals on her property. Sorry about that, but we will not make exceptions with our pet policy.
There are many wonderful dog boarding facilities in Bishop (about a half hour away) we have used when we go out of town. Donna the Dog Lady is our favorite, but there are also Pampered Pooches and Relaxing Furr Dog Kennels. There are also many pet friendly hotels in nearby Mammoth Lakes, like Mammoth Mountain Inn, The Westin Monache and Tamarack Lodge.

There are books and magazines on the console that provide a wealth of local information, but call the place to make sure the information is up to date before visiting. Unless you have Verizon for cell service the reception isn't great at the studio. A short trip to the general store will get you service. We also have free Wi-Fi access for everything else.
The kitchen is fully equipped and has a full-size refrigerator, full-size range/oven, big stainless sink w/ disposer, Keurig coffee maker and toaster oven. There is K-cup coffee, creamer and sugar in the cabinet, please help yourself. Please let us know if you need anything EXTRA for the kitchen, we have a ton of inventory stored but don't leave it all in the studio. New flat screen SmartTV with DISH and Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, etc. (log in to your own account). There is space for boat/trailer parking in the driveway, just let us know beforehand.

We would love it if you didn't bring plastic water bottles with you on your trip, Mammoth Lakes is trying to "Ban the Bottle." As people who recreate outdoors and love the mountains, we all see the effects single-use plastics have on the Mammoth Lakes area — abandoned bottles on the side of a trail or floating in our lakes. We have the cleanest, direct from the snowy mountains, running water from our taps. You have to try it to believe it. I bet it tastes even better than your bottle! We also provide a Brita water filter pitcher in the refrigerator.

Built out of brick, our cabin is directly on Hilton Creek for your enjoyment of all four seasons. Surrounded by pure rushing water and a quaking aspen glade, this Eastern Sierra location borders on magical. See for yourself, our photos show just a glimpse!

The space
Old cabins have an authentic feel that is tough to replicate. Seldom will you find one that is built right on the edge of a rushing creek-bed in the High Sierra. Here it is, if you get any closer you will get wet!

UPDATE! - The COVID pandemic changed our mindset when it comes to taking back to back bookings -- we stopped doing them. If you book then the day prior and after your departure are automatically blocked out to allow time for dust to settle and the cabin to air out. Of course this cuts into our rental availability but it allows for better cleaning and more time to take care of regular maintenance. During winter it is tough to air out but we do it and burn fires around the clock to keep the cabin from freezing up while doors and window are wide open.

All parts of the cabin are still spray sanitized and rigorously cleaned.

Each season is different but summer and fall are guest favorites. Please note that during the winter (and most of spring) Yosemite National Park cannot be accessed easily from the cabin because Tioga Pass (HWY 120) is closed.

The cabin is on the small side but perfect for two, three adults works too depending on your space needs. Keep in mind this is an original tiny home, before they became popular. Well behaved children can be accommodated but no pets please. We love pets, but some of our eldest family members have pet allergies and use this cabin too. If you ask to bring your pet I will just reply as stated above.

There is a separate bedroom with a double bed (slightly smaller than queen sized) and heated blanket, the bathroom has a shower, and the kitchenette is combined into the living room. Streaming TV and wifi are available, sometimes the creek makes so much noise it is hard to hear the TV! During the colder times of year we have a wonderful wood burning stove and plenty of firewood. If you don't know how to build a fire, let us know, my wife and I are pro's.

Some folks are concerned that the cabin is isolated in the middle of nowhere and that access is difficult. We live on the property, have a main house and this rental cabin in back. Our road is paved, parking is paved and its a short 25 foot walk to the front door. In the winter we will remove snow to make your life easier. The neighborhood is upscale, quiet, and safe. Although the buildings are close together the creek creates an ambiance of privacy and drowns out all sounds, this cabin faces the creek and forest -- you may as well be deep in the wilderness.

Domestic water is piped in straight from the creek. It's filtered but guests should drink bottled water, we'll start you off with a gallon. Creek water is perfect for showering, cooking, brushing teeth, etc. You'll notice the difference.

We have fiber optic cable internet installed to our house and backyard cabin. For those that are interested in working remotely in this beautiful setting know that our internet is very fast and reliable. It only goes down when the whole neighborhood loses power.

The kitchenette includes a two burner marine grade cooktop, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, pots/pans, dishes and utensils, wine opener, garlic press, mini-fridge, etc.

The living room includes a single-wide futon mattress for children or a third guest. No charge for children 12 and under, but additional adults are $25/night.

15% Mono County bed tax is included in rates.

Other things to note
Always take a good look at the driving directions even if using GPS because sometimes it will get you close but not all the way.

If it is snowing (or in the forecast) it is always a good idea to bring tire chains and put them on, if you are driving a 4x4 or AWD then you should be fine without chains. During heavy snowstorms plan to travel during daylight hours, safer too!

As mentioned we have great wifi in the cabin, our local cell provider is Verizon and AT&T but if you have a different carrier you can generally pick up service within 1-2 miles from the cabin.

Detailed directions are in the cabin to operate the wood burning stove, please read and ask for help if needed. Daily fires are essential to having a comfortable stay during the winter, it takes a little extra work but you'll have an experience to remember!

The cabin toilet flushes to a pump so please no trash ever down the toilet, toilet paper is fine to flush.

In the woodshed there is a propane BBQ for guest use, picnic table and chairs (spring - fall).

During big winters we'll be up early blowing snow, extra shovels are around just in case. ;-)

Feel free to explore the grounds, trails, multiple creeks, and bridges on our property. A faint trail from our backyard does connect over to a "fourth creek" and the Hilton Creek Lakes trail head that will get you into the John Muir Wilderness in a matter of minutes. If you are interested let us know and we'll show you the path. (The trail head is also accessible by car)

And finally, please care for our old cabin as if it were yours and leave it in a clean condition that we have provided for you. It truly is a special place and we want to make it available for guests for many years to come. (with your help of course!)

To us clean condition means doing your dishes, tidying up, and running the vacuum cleaner if needed. Don't worry about doing laundry, taking out the trash, or emptying ashes.
