- "The owners think about details. The unit was nicely furnished, the kitchen was well-equipped for prep and cooking, and the whole interior was spacious and well lit. Outside, there was actually kindling on the wood pile, and multiple kinds of watercraft - plenty of kayaks, a 4-seater paddle boat, and some paddle boards, too. Kayaking the lake was a real joy. Towels and sheets are included as you’d think for a nice place. The only mild worry was a very soft mattress topper in the downstairs bedroom. The response time to an email question was quick-less than 10 minutes, and the owner(s) are nearby but non-intrusive. I’d rent again in a heartbeat. It’s a great place for 4-5 people, well equipped and well done."

Weekends are busy on the lakes and weekdays and mornings allow for nature watching and quiet water activities. PET RULES
We allow up to 2 dogs, no cats, birds, or other animals I have not encounter in the rental business.
Dogs must house trained. House trained does NOT mean urinating on a pad. It would advisable for owners to allow the loved ones several outside trips throughout the day. Damage charges will be assessed if urine damage occurs.
If your dog is a spaded female and your visit occurs during her period the pet must have a pet diaper.
The dogs MUST be supervised while outside at all times. If your dog is not well trained and won’t come when called then the furry friend must be leashed or contained during the outdoor time. When your pet relives it’s bowel it is the expectation that the owner will immediately provide pick of the bowel movement. If the owner doesn’t have poop bags the landlord will provide them.
While inside the cottage the animal also needs to be supervised or crated. Animals should not be left alone for long periods of time, (i.e over 2hours). Please realized this is a new and strange location to your loved one, and likely will be scared without you in this unfamiliar space. So they act differently than at home, until they are accustom to being in a familiar space without their loved one. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN IMMEDIATLY.

Enjoyed the hot tub and the stars were amazing but you had to stay real still or a motion activated spotlight turns on and ruins the star gazing. Only complaint I had is we rented the pontoon and it only has a 6 gallon tank and that was only 1/4 full so we could only go out about a half hour before we had to stop and run into town for gas (there's no gas on the lake and it's about a 10 minute drive to the nearest gas station). After using the pontoon for a few hours the next day we were near empty again and had to go back out for gas. Overall a very relaxing and enjoyable trip."

Bedroom suite contains Queen bed, Dresser, TV, Mirror, lamp & walk in closet. There is another queen bed, a couch and a love seat in the rec room for an extra couple guests and if you have an air mattress, there is plenty of floor space for all your friends!
The space
The house itself is out in the country, a few miles south of the Village. You can almost see the neighbors houses, depending on how many leaves are in the trees!

The entire basement is about 1700sf with a wet bar, projector for DVD’s and a fairly well stocked kitchenette ( no stove in the basement, but you can use the kitchen upstairs if you want).
Guest access
Even though I reside here on the ground floor, you will have access to whatever you need. There's a wet bar in the basement with a fridge and microwave, but you are welcome to use the kitchen upstairs. I have all the standard kitchen equipment, almost anything you could ask for. Relax and watch a DVD on the 12 foot Projector downstairs or use the 50" TV in your bedroom for Dish Network. Free Laundry is upstairs. Gas grill on the back patio on standby for whoever wants to use them, and can be warmed up within a few minutes.

Internet access available, speeds depend on the weather, though!

I have 3 dogs, which I will keep separate from you. I have a fenced in back yard to keep them separate from your pets and there are baby gates in the house. With that in mind, your pets are always welcome, provided you clean up after any unexpected accidents!

Your pets are welcome, as long as you can clean up after them, in case they get so excited that they have a little accident!

I have a few pets myself, but they are all pretty friendly. Storm is a 8yo 20# blind Jack Russell/pit mix, who barks at everyone including me, but warms up to you pretty quickly. I recently adopted twin boy Corgi/Rottie mixes 18mo old Thor and Loki, saved them from a shelter.

4yo Mr. Cutie is my tiger stripe cat, and he doesn’t really care about me, so he probably won't even socialize with you, if you even see him! Don't be offended!

Two goldfish-Mustache and Nemo- don’t worry about them…they stay in their tank most of the time. And then Shelly the snail is a new addition to the tank.

<3 miles from a grocery store, the post office, 2 pizza joints, a bar, a pharmacy, 2 gas stations, a hardware store, a salon, and a barber shop.

Big Wolf Lake and Little Wolf Lake are just a few miles South of the house and Grass Lake is just a few miles North of the house.

- "This was my second time staying at Matthew's and I must say he really outdid himself! He was very accommodating when dealing with an issue beyond his control (power outage). He sourced a generator in a matter of hours and even made a trip to town to purchase a special cord. Now onto the property... it's great! The rental area consists of a spacious open basement with a small private bedroom (with a closet bigger than some NYC apartments), huge bar/kitchenette, cozy living room and workspace area, an extra bed perfect for movie time snuggles and modern bathroom with lots of towels and even fuzzy robes. There is a projection screen and movies abound for a rainy day. I didn't get to use it but I'm sure Matthew picked out some good flicks for his guests. The pièce de résistance is the hot tub, a high tech super soaking experience! With enough dexterity, you could orchestrate your own Pink Floyd light show in the bubbles. I can't not mention the doggos! Have you ever seen a rottweiler/corgi mix pup? There's two of them! The dogs barked a bit, but it didn't affect our stay one bit. 10/10! We'd love to visit again!"

This is a beautiful downstairs apartment, with all of the amenities of home. The apartment is accessed either by the front door on the porch, or by the back door which is open to a large, grassy lot.

Inside, we have a very functional kitchen with a refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, crock pot, blender, and Keurig coffee maker. Basic kitchen tools are provided.

The apartment sleeps 6 adults, though we'd be happy to host more if at least two are children. Each bedroom has a comfortable 12" queen sized memory foam mattress, and there is an additional folding floor mattress. There is also a sound/white noise machine for anyone who needs it :)

The living room is comfortable, with a smart TV and wifi available. Window air conditioning units are provided.

Welcome to Yurt at Waterloo! (formerly Yurt at Havenswood) Very peaceful and private Yurt in the heart of the Waterloo Recreation Area Grass Lake, Michigan. This 16' Yurt sits on a 12 acre wooded lot. Perfect way to get the camping experience without being on top of your neighbors. You will not find a quieter place with so many great things to do within 10 minutes.
We are surrounded by hundreds of miles of trails in the Waterloo Conservation area. Maps provided. There is a trail head on our street a few hundred feet from the yurt. You will have a private driveway and parking area. Plenty of privacy for campfire nights and deck lounging while enjoying the sounds of nature. You will not find more private camping and serenity!
The yurt sleeps a maximum of 4 adults, with twin size bunk beds and a full size futon. The 8 foot picnic table compliments the fire pit with grilling grate. Rustic outdoor living at its finest. Very clean outhouse near Yurt.
Private drive and parking
We completely respect the needs and desires of our guests. We are available if ever they need anything, but we have also done our best to create a totally private environment.
We are in the center of so many popular Michigan hot spots. We are 30 minutes west of Ann Arbor and 45 minutes south of Lansing. We are 15 minutes east of downtown Jackson, and just minutes from the quaint downtown of Grass Lake.
As far as our Neighborhood goes, we are in the Waterloo Preservation Area. Surrounded by hundreds of miles of hiking, running and biking trails. The Portage Lake Campground is only 5 minutes away with lots of options for swimming, boating, fishing, disc golf and other outdoor type festivities, along with a beach and private showers during season.
There is also the small Welch Lake less than .5 miles away that is fantastic for fishing, small boat, and kayaking. Kayaks and trailer provided for a fee.

As dog lovers, we welcome you to bring up to 2 furry friends! BUT... common courtesy is a must. This includes picking up waste (bags provided) and not leaving them unattended in Yurt. If you have dogs over 50 lbs, contact owner for possible exceptions. Both of our dogs are over 50 lbs, so we get it... :)

We are also less than 10 minutes away from the Sandhill Crane Winery which has beautiful views, live music, and great wine and food.

- "Wow is all I can say about our trip to the yurt! We had such a wonderful time and mase so many amazing memories with our kids! The yurt is exactly as described. It had a futon and 2 bunk beds, perfect for my husband 2 kids and I. The space was clean and all we needed for the long weekend. We love rustic camping ( no running water or electricity) so this was perfect for us. We cooked over the fire for all our meals. There is a cooking grate over the fire which was helpful. There was plenty of seating around the stone fire pit. If you want the sound of nature and isolation this is for you! At night when all the lanterns are off you are in total darkness which we though was cool! There is a string of battery powered lights around the inside of the yurt which we liked at night which is basically like the light of the moon. Tons of things to do in the area. Lots of canoe liveries about 35-55 minutes away. Easy to get to for a day trip! Lastly our hosts were beyond easy to get a hold of and were very helpful through the booking as well as the entire trip! Highly recommended this property! We hope to stay again!"

17yo ranch w/finished basement, large rec room w/wet bar & overhead projector. Fully furnished Basement suite. Plenty of parking on the concrete and in the circular driveway. Includes a hot tub, grill, laundry.

Bedroom suite contains Queen bed, Dresser, TV, Mirror, lamp & walk in closet. There is another queen bed, a couch and a love seat in the rec room for an extra couple guests and if you have an air mattress, there is plenty of floor space for all your friends!

The space
The house itself is out in the country, a few miles south of the Village. You can almost see the neighbors houses, depending on how many leaves are on the trees!

Private basement bedroom with a private bathroom. Queen size natural latex mattress new Jan2021. Spare Queen bed has a Nectar Mattress from 2024.

The entire basement is about 1700sf with a wet bar, Overhead projector for Gaming (provide your own console) or watching any one of Hundreds of provided DVD’s and a fairly well stocked kitchenette with assorted hot Tea, Coffee, Cocoa and condiments. There is a Microwave, coffee pot, air fryer and instapot readily available, but there is no stove in the basement. You are more than welcome to use the kitchen upstairs if you want.

There is a desk in the corner and wireless internet available in the basement, login and password provided upon check in.

Full, free laundry services available in the basement.

All the windows have blackout curtains on them in case you are a late sleeper!

Bedroom TV is a smart TV with Dish Network and an Amazon Firestick installed.

Guest access
Even though I reside here on the ground floor, you will have access to whatever you need. There's a wet bar in the basement with a fridge and microwave, but you are welcome to use the kitchen upstairs. I have all the standard kitchen equipment, almost anything you could ask for. Relax and watch a DVD on the 12 foot Projector downstairs or use the 50" TV in your bedroom for Dish Network. Free Laundry is right there downstairs. Gas grill and 6 person hot tub on the back patio is always on standby for whoever wants to use them, and is always warmed up.

Internet is provided, but speeds depend on the weather, sometimes!

Between my housekeeper and I, we have 5 dogs, three smaller ones and two larger dogs. Storm is an 11yo blind JRT/Pit mix and twin troublemakers Thor and Loki are Corgi sized Rottweiler mixes. Pink and Miracle are Bulldog/Bully mixes and while they all bark at strangers, they are also very friendly. I have a fenced in back yard to keep them separate from your pets and a door separating the basement from the upstairs. With that in mind, your pets are always welcome to stay with your, provided you clean up after any unexpected accidents, and just be careful with them around the dogs.

We also have 3 cats that spend as much time outside as they do inside, but they DO NOT go downstairs. Mr. Cutie, Willow and Eirvassa are all pretty chill.

During your stay
I work full time during the day, once or twice a week I can work from home, and I am usually home every evening and most of the time on the weekends. I can point you to a good bar or restaurant or grocery store if you need anything, and I am also happy to provide basic 'hotel-etries.' Always reachable by phone and text, and sometimes email.

I usually meet and greet all my guests when they arrive, give them a quick tour, answer any questions and then I will leave you to your relaxation. I think in the 5 years I've been hosting, I've only missed meeting and greeting 5 different reservations.

Other things to note
Your pets are welcome, as long as you can clean up after them, in case they get so excited that they have a little accident!

I have 5 dogs between myself and my housekeeper. Storm is a blind Jack Russell/Pit mix, who barks at everyone including me, but warms up to you pretty quickly. I recently adopted Corgi sized Rottweiler twin boys, Thor and Loki, saved them from a shelter. They are quite energetic, good at being underfoot, full of love and energy! We also have 2 Bulldog/Bully mixes, Pink and Miracle, they bark at strangers, but will lick you until you get the giggles and love to play fetch, but they're not that great at giving back the toy.

I also have 4 goldfish. Mustache, Nemo, Little Gold Head and Little Mango Tango. Don’t worry about them…they stay in their tank most of the time.

Then there are 3 cats. Mr. Cutie, Willow and Eirvassa spend ALL of their time upstairs. They know they are not allowed downstairs. Occasionally they go outside, but as it's getting colder, they don't do that much. They may try to go downstairs....don't let them!

My house is <3 miles from a grocery store, a post office, 2 pizza joints, a bar, a pharmacy, 2 gas stations, 2 restaurants, a hardware store, a salon, and a barber shop.

Big Wolf Lake and Little Wolf Lake are just a few miles South of the house and Grass Lake is just a few miles North of the house. All have public fishing areas and boat launches. There are several more lakes around the area.

Jackson, MI is about 12 miles East of us and Chelsea, MI is about 14 miles West of us. MIS is about 15 miles South of us and the Waterloo Recreational Area is about 10 miles North of us.

Plenty of parking on the concrete in front of the garage where you enter, and overflow parking in the circular drive in front of the house.

Off of the dining room is the second bedroom with a queen bed and also the bathroom. At the back of the house there is a full kitchen and the third bedroom with a queen, memory foam mattress and large walk- in closet.

The space
The upstairs is all one space: a bedroom with a queen bed and half bath and a living room area with a pull-out couch, single bed, and smart TV. Walk outside to a private balcony perched high above the lake.

The downstairs has one air conditioned bedroom with a queen bed and a small desk for remote work. The living space downstairs features sliding window doors facing the lake and a huge balcony on two sides of the house. Grill out with our gas grill and relax on the new patio furniture.

The inside is decorated in European clean designs with splashes of accent colors. The kitchen is granite counter tops and stocked with everything you need to cook for the whole family.

The utility room has a washer/dryer combo.

Outside you will have plenty of room to play a game of corn hole, table tennis in the garage, and warm up by the fire pit. Bring your own wood or pull some from the woods.

Walk down the ramp to your private dock where you can launch kayaks (available for rent) and the paddle boat (4 people included in price). Explore the lake, swim, and fish all day long! The water depth slopes gradually for about ten yards creating a great place for new swimmers to wade (with life preservers and under the watchful eyes of their parents).

Note: our dock is not big enough for a boat, only non-motorized watercraft and jet ski’s.

The drive way is shared with a tony home next door which may also have guests. However, the house faces the water on one side and the woods on the other. Quiet hours after 10 pm.

The horse shoe driveway is shared by the guests in the tiny home next door and needs to stay clear for the other guests to access their parking spot. There is ample space to park at the entrance of the garage doors.

During winter months snow or ice can make it impossible to get up the hill to the house without a four wheel drive or snow tire chains. In the case that you cannot get up the drive you may park at the bottom of the hill and walk up. The distance is about 50 yards from the bottom of the hill to the house. However, extra care must be taken to not slip and fall. I live an hour away and will not able to come and help you up the hill.

Other things to note
Our home is 8 minutes from old downtown Grass Lake with a small town America feel. If you are looking for more, you can be in Jackson 15 minutes west and Chelsea 15 minutes east for all the restaurants and shopping. The Big House and U of M in Ann Arbor is only 25 minutes (traffic permmiting).

The paddleboat is complimentary and kayaks are available for $15 per day per kayak.

Have fun with the whole family at this stylish place - rent both properties for your group. Each property has 2 bedrooms & 1 bath. Both units are next door to each other and walkable to downtown Grass Lake, close proximity to many lakes and the Grass Lake park. In the summer, walk to the farmer's market.
