The decor is adorable. The town is quite charming. Heidi made dining recommendations and did her utmost to make my stay comfortable and enjoyable. If you like old buildings and appreciate preservation, this is a real treat, but you do need to know that en-suite bathrooms were not the norm 120 years ago. The owners are solicitous but they respect their guest's privacy as well. I have special dietary requirements (gf&df), and they prepared a delicious breakfast especially for me. If you expect all the modern conveniences of a chain hotel, this might not be for you, but if you like to connect with the local community and its history, this is a lovely place to visit. "

This area was historically called Red Landing and an old ramp and concrete kiln that might have provided pitch to repair the bottom of boats trafficking the river remain on the property as evidence of a bygone era when steamboats regularly traveled the river .

For those looking for peace and quiet, communing with nature, this stand alone house offers a chance to stay in the midst of one of the most visited areas on the east coast. Where else on the east coast can you spend time in a place without any other views of neighbors? The Cottage sits on a point of land that affords views of the river and the adjoining state forest. The privacy is spectacular; especially since a major resort that expands to 300,000 people in the summer is only minutes away.
