Cozy cabin near some of California's most pristine pine forest, waterholes and fishing, and only 9 miles from the Lassen National Park's Southwest Visitor Center. The town of Mineral is a small island of private cabins surrounded by a sea of National Forest and National Park lands. An adventurer's dream. You could walk out the backdoor of the cabin, into the forest, and arrive at the Lassen Visitor Center without crossing a single paved road, or seeing another human. Just bears.

The space

Our happy little cabin is about 1,000 square feet, with one bedroom downstairs, and the other up a steep, narrow staircase that leads into a bright room with giant windows, giving the impression you are tucked comfortably among the trees. People say it's their favorite room in the cabin. You'll see why.

All the beds are new Tuft and Needle mattresses.

The recently renovated bathroom has a restored Victorian claw foot bathtub -- awwwwww -- and a separate shower. Find your zen with a candle and a book (and if you're coming from the Bay Area you can stop at the organic loofah and lavender farm, MoonBeam Farm, in the valley below the cabin.)

The kitchen is compact, but we added a gas-burning stove and accoutrements for those of you who like to cook big. The Mineral Lodge in town also has dining, and is about a 5 minute walk from the cabin.

We have a wood stove. It was custom built by a small company outside of Sacramento. It has little gnomes on it. They're cute. And you can put wood in it, get cozy, and stay warm. But remember, it gets hot. Real hot. Burn you hot.

Fun fact: Our cabin was originally built in 1928. And when we renovated it, we found the original blueprints for the two-story addition added more than 40 years ago -- and we uncovered some of the original siding and paint (bright red!) now nearly 100 years old. It was originally built shortly after Lassen volcano last erupted.

Guest access
We have a dirt driveway with parking for two or three cars. In the winter, per snowy conditions, the driveway can get slick and AWD/4WD makes life easier.

Other things to note...

There is so much National Forest, National Park and National Wilderness land around the cabin. It's amazing. So bring your hiking boots, bikes, skis, climbing gear, swim suit, fishing poles, and all the outdoor stuff that brings you joy. I have some hiking books and maps at the cabin. But you might wanna do some map exploring before you get here. There is a swimming hole and waterfall in town, plus Lake Almanor about 30 minutes away, also Ishi Wilderness down the hill, Lassen Volcanic National Park, Lassen Volcanic Wilderness, Caribou Wilderness, Thousand Lakes Wilderness and, of course, Lassen National Forest. It's why the travel writers constantly call this area the hidden gem of California.

Cabin 12 is a lovely two-bedroom lakeside cabin with a front porch and a back deck overlooking Lake Almanor and Big Cove on the peninsula of the north shore. Located in Almanor Lakeside Resort, just off Peninsula Drive, it is only a few steps from the water. The living room has a 48" flat-screen Smart TV with DVD player, air conditioner, and gas fireplace. Kitchen includes large dining table, refrigerator, gas stove with oven, microwave, programmable coffee maker, coffee grinder, toaster, electric tea pot, mixer, blender, electric fry pan, dishes, pots & pans, silverware and utensils. Vacuum cleaner, broom & mop and hand vac are provided for quick clean ups. One large bedroom has king-size bed with desk and flat-screen Smart TV as well as sliding glass doors to the deck with a lake view. Second bedroom has queen bed and flat screen TV. There are ceiling fans in each room. Bedding and towels are provided. Hair dryer provided in re-modeled bathroom with glass shower. Lake view deck has gas grill, table & chairs, and small fenced area for pets. Small and medium/large sized dogs will be considered for a non-refundable $50 fee. This cute Cabin 10 has been re-modeled and modernized. It contains one queen bed with new mattress and has available one twin-size high profile, self-regulating air bed for a child or a third adult. It is the closest cabin to the shore of beautiful Lake Almanor. It is located in Almanor Lakeside Resort on the peninsula at the mouth of Big Cove. Bedding & towels are provided. The kitchen is well furnished with all the necessities. There is a flat screen Smart TV and DVD player for your down-time enjoyment. This cabin is a few feet from the boat launch ramp and boat slips. It has three new large vinyl windows with screens to catch those wonderful evening breezes off the lake. The jewel of this cabin is the large deck over-looking the lake which holds an outside dining table and chairs, propane gas grill and latching gate to contain pets and children. The views are stunning. The cabin has a propane heater and an electric heater for those cool mornings and evenings and a ceiling fan for the warmer afternoons. Cable TV and internet are provided by the resort. There is a large lawn area with picnic tables and doggie station for the use of all resort guests. Lake Almanor is located 165 miles north of Sacramento, nestled amongst the pines where the Cascade Mountains meet the Sierra Nevadas. At elevation 4500 feet it is the third largest manmade lake in California and best known for its prime hunting and fishing grounds.

There are two golf courses on the lake, Bailey Creek in the peninsula & a nine hole at Lake Almanor West. OK, we're fishermen, not golfers! Mount Lassen National Park is just 26 miles away, has hiking (to the top!), picnicking, and very scenic views. Play tennis in the peninsula or bike around the lake (many other trails for cycling to choose from).

This cozy home is situated on the east shore of Hwy 147. Just about the middle of the 8 mile strip at 3907 Hwy 147, Lake Almanor, CA 96137. Enjoy sunsets on the deck or fish right off the dock. Bring your boat, there's plenty of excellent fishing holes around. During the summer months we rent Friday to Friday. Truly is a nice spot on the lake.

Shopping and antiquing can be found in all the quaint old fashioned towns around the area. Dine out in Chester, the peninsula, try Westwood's famous Buffalo Chips Pizzeria ("Cabin Fever" is our favorite).
