Moo Creek Rainforest hideaway
House
Cow Bay, Queensland, Australia

Moo Creek is a fully equipped holiday home in the heart of the Daintree Rainforest. It is within walking distance to Cow Bay Beach and only a short drive to restaurants, boardwalks and other sights of the Daintree. With one king bed, double futon and single bed, Moo Creek is suitable both for couples and families seeking to get away from it all and relax. There is ceiling fans through out house and plenty of air flow from outside. With a large open living area and covered decking overlooking a private creek and surrounded by rainforest it is a truly tranquil space.

The space
Moo Creek is entirely reliant on solar power and rainwater so we ask that guests are mindful of power and water usage during their stay. We also have a generator as a back up for power. While it doesn't need to be used very often you should note that as the property is in a rainforest we do experience periods of cloud and rain and therefore at times this may necessitate the running of the generator for power. There is no mobile reception or wifi available on the property which adds to the feeling of being able to totally switch off from it all. There is mobile reception available just a few minutes drive up the road however if needed. We provide books, movies and games for guests as well as all products including shampoo etc. We would also recommend that guests shop for groceries prior to heading into the Daintree (there is a Woolworths in Mossman) as there are very limited options for groceries once you have crossed over the river. We provide both a plunger and a stove top espresso maker at the house, however guests need to provide their own ground coffee for these.

Guest access
Guests have the entire property to themselves for the duration of their stay. This includes the private swimming holes in the creek running through dense rainforest. Given sufficient time and an Australian address we are happy to post ferry passes to you to save you the cost of the ferry. Otherwise we provide a ferry pass for your return journey (on the Daintree River Ferry crossing) so only a one way pass needs to be purchased to access the property. Additional passes can also be arranged for guests staying longer than 3 nights.

Other things to note
Our creek on the property has two small swimming holes which are accessed from the decking area. The creek is crocodile free and therefore safe to cool off in the warmer months.

We have an amazing array of birds including the Wompoo Pigeon and sunbirds. The birdsong from the forest at dawn is a lovely way to start the day. Please don’t feed or try to interact with the wildlife, just enjoy them from a distance! We are too far from the beach to have crocodiles here however please pay attention to the signs at the beaches and creeks when you go there.

Pets
• Please let us know if you would like to bring a pet. Pets must be able to be controlled at all times. Pets must not be on beds or furniture.

Location
The Daintree is accessed by crossing the Daintree River by ferry. When you drive off and head up the range you immediately begin to feel the beauty and peace of the old growth rainforest surround you. Driving into the private property completes the feeling of total seclusion.

Daintree Valley Cottage
House

Daintree Valley Cottage is a one bedroom cottage, with plunge pool offering outstanding views of 3 mountain ranges, and 12 layers of the Daintree Valley. Sit back on the sweeping decks of the cottage or lounge in the comforts of the pool and enjoy incredible views of the Daintree valley and the most ancient rainforest in the world. The cottage is set on five acres of land giving the ultimate privacy and tranquility, although offering a majestic scene to your front view. Being self sufficient and one with the eco system to our area, the cottage runs solely on solar panels and water tanks, however electric power in the house offers full electricity with lights and fans along with the availability of running a bath spa tub for your relaxation and enjoyment. The cottage would suit a couple looking for a romantic and secluded getaway, a writer looking for that special place to create, birdwatchers, or anyone with the need to sit back and enjoy the beauty of nature surrounding you.

The Cottage

The cottage is unique and beautiful, built with love by its boatbuilder owner, his sons and wife. Hardwood floors, full kitchen and living room are equipped with all the necessities for your comfort. The open planned living room has a range of books, 32 inch HDTV and a DVD player, and wifi. This leads to the dining room, with a dining table seating for six. The kitchen has 5 burner gas stove, electric fridge, and a range of appliances. The large bedroom has a queensize bed and the french doors open to the balcony and incredible views over the valley. The bathroom features a jacuzzi with large windows opening out to rainforest views. Being run on solar power and rain water, the system is fully automated offering full electricity and ample water, however, the usage needs to be respected. The deck on the front of the cottage is extensive, some of which is covered and some being open. Be at one with nature, as you experience an open Avery to all the music of the rainforest. Under covered deck, a is a lovely daybed, which can be used for sleeping or lazy afternoons. There are also two lounge chairs to enjoy the views and to relax. We also have a dining table with settings for four. This leads to an open deck and plunge pool where you can see the beautiful valley as you relax in the water or sun lounges. At night view the stars like you have never seen them before.

The location

The rainforest is directly behind you and a slow undulating property in your front yard opens to your scenery. At given times of the year the valley mist along the river floods with low moving mist that can offer a different view and movement daily.

Daintree Valley Cottage has a very soothing and relaxing atmosphere, and even though we are in a remote area we are just 5 minutes off the Daintree River and ferry crossing which allows you a simple drive to our nearest attractions, such as the cape trib drive and nearby hotels and or restaurants. River tours are available on the river which can add to your adventures as Crocodiles are often seen sunning themselves on the river banks, and fishing trips can also be arranged. Daintree village is just minutes away with a car and hotel restaurants and small shops, and the road north offering further locations of interest. We request that visitors are aware that we are in the rainforest, so to keep in mind that the natural ambiance is surrounding you and that no domestic animals are allowed, preserving our wildlife in the area. At times special sightings have occurred of our natural wildlife with much enjoyment. We welcome all guests with the respect to the property and environment.

Guest Reviews:

- "The home was very comfortable to stay in, and even though neighbours are around in this rainforest space, it was still very private. Being perched on the side of the hill the views are expansive, and it catches any breeze making it a comfortable place in the tropics. We found it very comfortably for two, with lots of space indoors and out. The multi-level deck/verandah and plunge pool were a standout. We had a mixed week of rain and sunshine, and could spend time comfortably sheltered on the verandah with multiple seating options. Inside is well equipped and although off grid we were surprised at how well set up the house is. Visiting the Daintree is about being in the space, and relaxing and this home enables you to do very little or lots easily. Loved it, sad to leave."

This room also has a table and bench seats and draws with games, books and a few toys. There is a bathroom off the back veranda and a large corner bath on the front veranda, great for kids to play in or a romantic hot tub. Enjoy the sound of the waves and the ocean views from the hammock and the bath on the front veranda.
There is a family sized Webber BBQ and a pizza stone to go in it, on the back veranda and some cleaning equipment as well.
There is no washing machine due to the solar power, but there is a handwashing sink and drying rack for handwashing. There are also public washing machines at Crocodylus resort just up the road and a full laundromat at Mossman and Port Douglas.
It is a lovely 8-10 min walk down to the beach or a 1 min drive. Cow Bay beach is beautiful and clean, with crystal clear water is good weather. At low tide you can walk to the north and get to the 4th beach, over a little headland or if it is low enough wade around the rocks. There are gorgeous rock pools with seaweeds, crabs and fish along the coastal edge, great for exploring.
If you are into rock hopping you can walk to the south, about 20 mins over the rocks to Calf Bay, a spectacular little cove just south of Cow Bay, with no road access. Well worth the walk.
There are Crocodiles in the rivers and they sometimes move along the coastline, so swimming in the ocean is NOT recommended.
There are a few great fresh water swimming holes, behind Mason's store and below the Heritage Lodge, (if you have lunch there, they let you use the swimming hole.) This one is known as the "Blue Hole" and crystal clear and blue to swim in. Also Emmagen Creek, north of Cape Tribulation.
Take a drive up to Cape Tribulation, enjoy some of the boardwalks along the way and check out the beaches, they are amazing.
This whole area is so spectacular, with ample tours to take or lots to explore yourself.

- "Three nights of bliss - we wish we'd booked longer! It was a beautifully relaxing few days after a busy couple of weeks in Cairns. The location is beautiful, walking distance to the beach. The kids enjoyed exploring the creek on the property, and it is close to other touristy places to explore. We saw cassowaries and a wild pig with piglets!" - "Kate's place is a rare find in one of the most beautiful places I've visited. The property is in a fantastic location with lush rainforest on all sides and a fantastic view of the coral sea. We were mesmerised! A 10 minute walk takes you to Cow Bay and on both days i visited i had the beach almost to myself! A stunning place! We cooked our own evening meals and found the kitchen had everything we needed. The propery is solar powered with gas for heating water and also the cooker. Used carefully, we had everything we needed. The beds were also very comfy. We would love to return one day! 😊"

Guest Reviews:

- "This is the perfect secluded hideaway up in the Daintree. What a gorgeous home, complete with outdoor bath (my all time favourite) Lovely built holiday home, with loads of character, and multiple outdoor areas to chill, and catch some sunrays, or keep dry under the verandah. Although this sleeps up to 4. The single bed is in the main living area. So just make sure your little ones are good with this setup. The pantry is stocked with some basic supplies (sugar, coffee, some spices, sauce), and loads of tea. There is some added extras, such as a picnic rug, iceblocks, and esky. Which are great for taking on a daytrip. I found the only thing missing was alfoil. There is TV, with a selection of dvds. And some board games to keep you entertained in the evening. Communication from Kaylene was fabulous. Instruction on what to bring (ie there are no supermarkets in Diwan) to clear directions. The private rock pools were definitely what sold this property for me. Having our own personal, croc free, swim hole. Unfortunately it was a bit cold for us West Aussies, and I only took one dip . The listing is pretty accurate, what you see is what you get. Would definitely recommend, and would love to go back. Thanks for a beautiful holiday in the Daintree!"

La Vista is sitting on top of a hill in Far North Queensland surrounded by rainforest, not a road in sight. However, La Vista’s concrete driveway is only 2 hours on the paved Captain Cook Highway from Cairns International Airport.
Driving North on the Captain Cook Highway from the Airport you’ll find yourself on the coast road to Port Douglas. After ‘Port’ you’ll continue North towards Mossman (Woolworths for groceries here) then further North to the Daintree River Ferry turn-off (right). Over the river, over the Alexandra range, and down into Cow Bay. Take the first right after the Cow Bay Hotel (pub) towards the beach. A further 500 m and on the right is the driveway marked by La Vista’s sign.
La Vista is worth the drive.

Unique holiday home with private waterfalls and swimming pool right by your deck
House
Daintree, Queensland, Australia

Daintree Secrets is a totally unique property set on four hectares of rainforest and tropical gardens with an open plan three bedroom, two bathroom house, set in the tree-tops, over the only permanently running stream in the oldest living rainforest in the world, the Heritage Listed Daintree Rainforest.

This Eco Certified property has for your enjoyment a large veranda which looks directly over your own private swimming hole waterfalls! The stream and rainforest curve around the verandah offering over 180 degree views into the tree-tops and along our crystal clear mountain stream.
It is the perfect place for outdoor dining (seats eight) and has a Weber barbecue and a Love Swing for the best views of the waterfalls.

You don't have to move from the verandah to be immersed in the rainforest. You'll see birds and butterflies flitting through the tree-tops and flying up and down our stream. Our resident turtle Thomas lives in his own small pond right below the deck of the verandah and he doesn't mind if a bit of breakfast goes over the side. The swimming hole is teeming with Jungle Perch and cute little catfish. Eastern Water Dragons and Boyds Forest Dragon can be seen along the trunk of trees or sunning themselves on the rocks.
It's also the perfect place to watch the kids who never want to get out of the swimming hole.

The house is fully furnished with three bedrooms. Two have luxury King size beds and the third bedroom has a Queen bed and a long Single bed, to accommodate even tall guests. All linen is provided, including large towels for swimming in the clear mountain stream. We update our linen every year.
The two luxurious bathrooms are modern and new.

The kitchen is fully equipped and includes a full sized fridge/freezer that easily copes with food and drinks for a party of 7 people. We provide an 80 litre esky (fibreglass cooler) in case you need extra drink space!
You will have everything you need to cook up a storm and we keep the fridge and pantry stocked with all sorts of basics, including plenty of Daintree tea, filter coffee, sugar, EV olive oil, balsamic and white vinegar, Himalayan salt and pepper grinders, tomato/barbecue and chilli sauces, jams, Vegemite and more.

The house has a large day bed perfect for afternoon siestas, a TV monitor, DVD and CD player along with a library of DVD’s and CD’s for your enjoyment. There is also a selection of books and games.
However, there is no Cable Television or Internet, one of the joys of this pristine paradise. Kids forget about their devices with so much to do at Daintree Secrets! They love the swimming hole teeming with jungle perch and exploring the rainforest.
There is a second shallow, sandy pool perfect for toddlers and those that don't like the deep water. We even provide pool toys to keep them entertained.

For those that want to get active we have a large, flat lawn which is perfect for a game of cricket or kicking a ball around. This area is perfect for stargazing and checking out the Milky Way at night. With no electricity north of the Daintree River, the night sky is spectacular!

For the yogis visiting, we have multiple unique places around the property with views of the stream or the forest, perfect for some quiet meditation. We even provide yoga mats! There is nothing quite like mediating in the rainforest with the soundtrack of the waterfalls, birds and cicadas.

Activities in this area are plentiful and we are centrally located and close to all the tourist attractions in the Daintree as well as cafes and restaurants.
Activities include gentle walks (the beach is 5 mins. away), hiking, guided nature trails, crocodile tours (yes you will see crocodiles on the tours- but not at Secrets) , swimming, sailing, snorkeling, reef fishing , jungle top zip lining , horse rides on the beach and much more.
I'm very happy to help with recommendations and information on the best tours, where to eat etc and I send detailed information to my guests when they book their Daintree Secrets holiday.

Most people say their favourite activity was spending a day lazing around the swimming hole at Daintree Secrets on the luxury double bean bags, watching the waterfalls and Ulysses butterflies fly up and down our stream.

With so much to see and do in the area, you really need three nights and all of guest reviews include that they wished they had stayed longer. We provide washing machines and dryers to help with longer stays.

Whilst Daintree Secrets is the perfect holiday destination for families, it is also one of the most romantic places for a couples retreat, intimate weddings, elopements and we have lots of honey-mooners and those returning for anniversaries.

Immersed in nature, you can truly forget that the rest of the world exits in this rainforest paradise. Just re-connect with yourself and your loved ones.

The trip from Cairns is an exceptionally scenic two hour drive. The road travels through cane fields, with dramatic mountain back-drops heavy with clouds and waterfalls. It then turns coastal and literally hugs the coastline with spectacular vistas of the Pacific Ocean.
Once you cross the vehicular ferry across the mighty Daintree River, you find yourself in the rainforest. The road winds through a thick canopy of tree-ferns, palms and the majestic king fern - the largest in the world. Keep your eye out for Cassowaries as they are frequently sighted along this road.

You do not need a 4wd vehicle, any regular hire car is sufficient to get around and see most of the Daintree and it's attractions. We guarantee that your favourite part of the Daintree will be your own private waterfall sanctuary at Daintree Secrets!

We really have tried to think of everything you may need or want to make your stay at Daintree Secrets memorable. So many of guest reviews say this is their favourite place to stay for a holiday and we have lots of repeat guests, which shows we must be getting it right.

As much as we want our guest experiences to be second to none, we knew that we personally wanted to ensure that our ecological footprint and that of our guests was minimal, and nil wherever possible.

To achieve this we embarked upon the Ecotourism certification process to ensure that we were 100% on the right track when it came to sustainable practices and to help us to improve any areas that were lacking or needed attention. Going through this certification process has cemented our understanding of and commitment to sustainable operations.

By achieving Ecotourism Australia Certification status Daintree Secrets joins fellow exemplary operators in terms of sustainability and provision of authentic, high-quality nature-based tourism experiences.

To achieve a minimal eco-foorprint, Daintree Secrets is powered by hydro-electricity, solar power and gas for hot water and cooking. We do have a back-up generator in case these fail as there is no electricity north of the Daintree River.
To help conserve energy, all of our appliances are energy saving. We ask that you leave high energy requiring appliances, such as hairdryers at home.

Our water comes from the crystal clear mountain stream flowing from Thornton Peak above us. This is the third highest mountain in Queensland where the air and the water are pristine.

All of our guest products and cleaning products are eco-friendly and we ask that you refrain from bringing harmful chemicals and single use plastic- including disposable plastic water bottles with you to the Daintree.

Thank you for helping us to achieve these eco-goals.

We really look forward to having you stay at our beautiful and unique property and enjoying everything that this pristine part of Australia has to offer.

Feel free to email or call me with any questions at all. I am very happy to help.

Kindest regards Katherine and Mark
Custodians of Daintree Secrets

Guest Reviews:

- "A unique and magical property. The views are even better than in the website. We loved the open-air layout and the pool is fantastic - wonderful outlook and very cooling in a FNQ summer. Our teenage kids loved the separate shack with cable tv and pool table." - "A charming retreat designed to maximise interaction with the exotic surrounds. And magnificent views." - "La Vista is an amazing property located in its own glade in the Daintree. The views out to Cape Tribulation are second to none and many evenings were spent just taking in this location (with the support of the odd beer/wine). We booked this to experience living in the forest with all this entails (incredible wildlife noises at night). Dean was a very responsive owner and very much respected our privacy. In summation if you want to experience the Daintree in a comfortable stilt house this property is for you."

Romantic rainforest retreat with magical waterfall
House
Cow Bay, Queensland, Australia

In the heart of the World Heritage Daintree, "Fairy Falls" is the perfect place to escape the rat race and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the oldest rainforest on earth. A private path leads directly to national parkland and the enchanting waterfall that gives the house its name. It's incredibly private, its cascading waters permanently feeding a natural plunge pool, ideal for bathing and picnicking waterside. Maybe you'll you'll share it with an electric-blue Ulysses or even an elusive cassowary, or hear the sweet whispers of our resident sunbirds but you're unlikely to see any other humans. The property is set in two acres of pristine rainforest north of the Daintree River and also adjoins several more acres of national parkland, “Fairy Falls” offers you the chance to forget the stresses and strains of everyday life and become fully immersed in the unique tropical wilderness of Far North Queensland.

THE WATERFALL AND SWIMMING HOLE
Making the most of your stay means following the private path from the garden for 100 metres, until you come to the cascading waterfall with its deep swimming hole, just a two-minute walk away. Fairy Falls – the waterfall – is on national parkland and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Daintree Rainforest, which has been in continuous existence for over 135 million years. Use the picnic set provided, pack a lunch and while away a few hours waterside, surrounded by the birds and butterflies of this timeless place; take a dip, lie back in the crystal clear waters and gaze into the sky above, framed by the canopy of the world’s oldest jungle – for a while, let yourself become part of this truly unforgettable slice of paradise.

Please note that swimming is at your own risk and due to its setting, "Fairy Falls" is unsuitable for children under 12.
The path can be steep and slippery in places so please take care.

A PEACEFUL AND TRANQUIL ENVIRONMENT
The Daintree is home to diverse wildlife, from colourful birds, stripey possums, tree kangaroos and the elusive cassowary. As you will be stewards of this remarkable ecosystem during your stay, we need you to cherish their habitat by minimising noise, keeping conversations and music to a considerate volume.
The community in the Daintree lives in harmony with the rainforest. Please be mindful of their peace and privacy too as sound travels easily through the rainforest.
If you are looking for party town then Fairy Falls is not for you.

DAINTREE RIVER FERRY
Just purchase a one-way ferry ticket when you arrive at the Daintree Ferry, a complimentary return ticket will be waiting for you at Fairy Falls.

THE HOUSE
“Fairy Falls” – the house – is fully off grid and as eco-friendly as possible, powered by solar and blessed with pure Daintree drinking water. The property is a large log cabin with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a living room and two kitchens (the main indoors, the other outdoors), a separate study and a huge covered entertaining area overlooking the rainforest with glimpses between the trees of Thornton Peak, which, at nearly 1,400 metres, towers over the Daintree (the deck even has subtle spotlights for night-time jungle viewing).

The house boasts bohemian décor with an eclectic mix of Near East, Far East and Far North influences, including beautiful Balinese and Indian contemporary and antique furniture, and artwork showcasing a few of the fauna and flora that make this corner of the world so special.

Both bedrooms have queen beds and the master bedroom – the Ulysses room – has a luxurious ensuite with a beautiful feature bath, separate shower and petrified-wood basins. Guests in the second bedroom – the Sunbird room – are able to use a separate guest bathroom with a shower and a natural stone basin. There is a separate study too, complete with a large oak desk and monitors for you to plug into. And, should you need it, the study also has a pull-out sofa bed (with a pillow-topper for extra comfort), so it can double-up as a third bedroom. All linen, towels and toiletries are provided.

The main (indoor) kitchen is open to the living room and has a rustic appeal with beautifully crafted cherry penda benchtops, antique Indian wall cupboards, a free-standing 900mm LPG gas oven with five burners, a large fridge-freezer, ample cupboard space and a double Belfast sink.

LAUNDRY FACILITIES IN MOSSMAN
Please note there is no washing machine or dryer at Fairy Falls. A clothes-airer is provided for drying clothes and swimwear but if you need to use a washing machine, there is a laundrette in Mossman.

ENTERTAINING AREAS
Outdoors there is the oversize covered entertaining area with its own rustic kitchen of natural-edge cherry penda benchtops, a sink with cold water, barbeque, and a bar fridge to keep your wine and beer at the perfect temperature for the tropics (not to mention close to hand!). The deck also has an outdoor dining area with a natural-edge mango dining table and benches for sharing special meals, as well as a day bed, sitting area, and ceiling fans to keep you cool on hot days. Just kick back with a glass of wine and the one you love, watch the wildlife or simply stargaze as the Milky Way meanders overhead.

Beneath the house is a space we call "The Hide", consisting of two hammocks, a hammock chair and cushions with a camouflage netting backdrop, from where you can observe the garden and the rainforest beyond.

THE GARDEN
Depending on the season, the garden has many tropical fruit trees including soursops, durians, love apples, miracle fruit and Thai coriander, so help yourself to the perfect ingredients for cooking up a mouth-watering dining experience of your own creation.

BROADBAND AND MOBILE PHONE
We have NBN satellite broadband, fast enough to stream movies on the 50 inch smart TV in the living room (to access entertainment platforms, please use your own membership details). However, we are in the jungle so I can't guarantee the connection. You are also likely to experience some slow speeds and buffering from time to time.
Mobile phone reception is patchy but just walkaround a bit to get a signal.

GUEST ACCESS
The entire property is yours to enjoy and there is onsite parking for several cars.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
We are fully off grid so we rely on solar power as well as pure Daintree rainwater. We also use LPG gas for hot water and cooking, and have a septic system for sewerage.

An automated-generator provides backup power should the solar system need topping up, but as local restrictions mean it can only kick in between 5:30am and 10pm, we ask guests to use electricity carefully, avoiding use of hair dryers, straightening irons and the like. Depending on conditions, please also use water wisely, and only flush organic matter down the loos!

NO EV CHARGING HAIRDRYERS, STRAIGHTENING IRONS, KETTLES OR TOASTERS
Please note there are no EV charging points north of the river. The nearest one is in Mossman. Our off-grid solar set up does not have the capacity to charge EVs - it will blow the inverter which will put us out of action for weeks so it's very important that no EVs are plugged in (or hairdryers, straightening irons etc). Thanks for your understanding.

In short, “Fairy Falls” may not be for those who prefer standard, hermetically-sealed 5-star “corporate” accommodation. On the other hand, if you’re wanting to escape to your own private rainforest hideaway that offers something completely different, and if you’re up for immersing yourself in this timeless wilderness and living amongst the wildlife – such as the odd gecko in the living room (welcome to the tropics!) – then this is definitely the place for you.

Please also note that, due to its setting, "Fairy Falls" is unsuitable for children under 12. Also, strictly no smoking, parties or pets.

It is both ecologically low impact and immensely practical. A nice touch is the outdoor bath. The bungalow was extremely clean and exactly as the pictures showed, and I loved the property's indoor/outdoor layout. It's hard to beat the experience of waking up to tropical birdsong and looking out over rainforest mountains, especially when paired with the delicious breakfast foods provided. Jill and Peter were excellent hosts who took great care to point out the highlights of the region and the natural environment of their Eco Lodge. Definitely recommend!!"

The house is also close to everything you might want to do in the Daintree or Mossman Gorge. WaitaWhile Eco Retreat - Holiday sustainably, pool, walk to beach
House
daintree, queensland, Australia

WaitaWhile is privileged to be surrounded by the creeping vines and emerald canopy of the Daintree Rainforest, a forest that has been growing for more than 180 million years and so spectacular, Sir David Attenborough called it “the most extraordinary place on Earth.”

Everything that we do is in full commitment to protecting, nurturing and maintaining the critical balance between the retreat and the diverse eco-system of the Daintree.

WaitaWhile switched to becoming fully solar powered in 2021 – saving an estimated 3000 Liters of diesel being burnt by our generator every year. At WaitaWhile all light fittings and appliances have been assessed for energy efficiency, allowing us to showcase that living purely on battery and solar power is possible.
To allow you to fully embrace a true “eco experience” we have looked at more than just having solar power and water saving shower heads. We have also calculated Wait-a-While's annual carbon footprint and have undertaken a replanting program that includes the removal of exotic species along with the addition over 500 new indigenous plants to ensure your holiday is a carbon neutral one.

The property is architecturally designed to enhance natural ventilation, the security screens ensure airflow whilst also providing a chemical free barrier to wildlife. When available rainwater is used, we ask you to sort your waste to assist with recycling and we use and recommend local suppliers with a similar ethos and who we know will enhance your trip and understanding of this very special part of our planet.

We are committed to this very special place by conviction and passion and we hope you will enjoy your stay.

The Barn is also a place where you won't forgo a bit of luxury, with three en suite bedrooms a fully equipped kitchen satellite TV, stereo system, billiard table, BBQ and a swimming pool, this three story pole house with 30 ft ceilings and glass walls from the ground up on 3 sides will truly take your breath away.

And with the odd whale spotted from any of the three front verandas, cassowaries at the back door monitor lizards trying to sneak a dip in the pool, and the insect bats flying around the floodlights at night, lets you know that you are about as close to nature as can get.

The Barn Daintree holiday house has 3 bedrooms, one on the top floor has a king size bed. There are two single beds next to the master good for the younger ones. Plus two on the ground floor with king size beds.

What to Expect
The Barn is a self-reliant house in electrical power and water supply, the house is purely powered by solar panels. Because of this one does have to be CAREFUL with power usage, we do ask you to use any equipment that uses high consumption of power such as the washing machine and dish washer, during the day when the sun is out, it is also advised to turn things such as lights and fans off if not in use. As long as power is not wasted The Barn is easily capable of powering the house through the day and night.

P}EASE NOTE
You must try to CONSERVE POWER especially at NIGHT and on CLOUDY DAYS and DO NOT use thingsl ike the toaster and microwave dishwasher at night, or at the same time. [unless the sun is out ] Otherwise you might have to wait for the sun before you have power

The Barn does not have a landline, but we are trying to get that. We have unlimited internet so you can use wifi calling. And Telstra and optus can be accessed from the main bedroom veranda.

One thing to also note is that The Barn is designed to be opened to nature and because of its solar passive design this house naturally keeps itself cool at all times, therefor there are no flyscreens or air conditioning.

Guest Reviews:

- "Our time at the Daintree and the Barn was such a treat! The house and pool were fabulous and just as we expected. We got a lot of rain (rainy season, duh), and we would open the big doors and watch the rain off the deck. Such a magical experience! "

Amazing views - Flame Trees over the Daintree
House
Cow Bay, Queensland, Australia

Welcome to Flame Trees over the Daintree

With arguably one of the best views in the Daintree, immerse yourself in nature while relaxing on the spacious verandah overlooking the Daintree Rainforest with fabulous views of Thornton Peak. This brick house on the hill offers a comfortable stay, with a newly renovated bathroom and a functional kitchen.

The space
The art-deco coloured brick house has a bright spacious bedroom and a large open space living room and kitchen. The bathroom, toilet and laundry are newly renovated. The functional kitchen includes a large fridge and a traditional gas oven / stove.
The verandah extends across the length of the house with a comfortable lounge plus chairs and tables. Why not put up one of the hammocks to relax and enjoy the view!
There is a spacious outdoor undercover dining area with BBQ.
All windows are fitted with mosquito screens and both rooms have ceiling fans and black out blinds.
There are books, puzzles and games available plus an extensive collection of DVDs that can be watched on the Blaupunkt TV. There is no free to air TV.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire house and property. Please note, there are security cameras monitoring the driveway and yard.
There are native rainforest trees and old orchard growth. We are in the process of reforesting the property and have already planted 800 plus trees. Guests are welcome to explore the property and pick any fruit that are ripe! A map with details of the trees will be available, together with further information on the animals that live on the property.
Please note - currently pig traps are set up on the property, guests are requested to stay clear of the traps and advise the caretaker if any animal is inside the trap. Do not approach any animal on the property!

Other things to note
Please note, there is no mains power or mains water north of the Daintree River. The property runs on a small solar system and a rainwater tank, therefore guests are requested to be mindful with power and water usage. Please don't use appliances that use a lot of power, e.g. hair dryer, shaver, blender. In case of extended periods of overcast days the generator might need to be run to top up the batteries.
The rainwater is potable, however a water filter is provided for convenience.
There is good WiFi at the property, however there is no phone reception (there is patchy Telstra reception and Vodafone has a little reception in one spot). Telstra WiFi calling works well. The closest reliable phone reception is in front of Crocodylus Village.

About the area - Note, due to road closures after the hurricane, there might be restricted access to places in the Daintree.
Cow Bay is a small community in the Daintree Rainforest. There are no shops close by, with the closest being the service station / shop at Daintree Rainforest Village in Diwan (9km drive). It is highly recommended that you buy all your supplies in Mossman (Woolworths) or Port Douglas (IGA or Coles) before crossing the river.
Cow Bay Beach is 1.7km from the property and is a beautiful spot (however swimming is not recommended due to crocodiles, there are swimming holes at Mason's cafe and Heritage Lodge).
Recommend visiting the Daintree Discovery Centre to learn more about the Daintree. There are Jindalba, Madja and Dubuji boardwalks and hikes .
There are a number of meal options at Thornton's, Mason's Cafe, Turtle Rock Cafe and others. And don't miss the fantastic tropical ice cream at the Daintree Ice Cream Factory!
Make sure to book a Daintree River tour with SolarWhisper or the Daintree Boatman for a bit of croc and bird spotting.
The snorkel tour with OceanSafari out of Cape Tribulation is highly recommended.

Getting there
There is no public transport in the area. The closest airport is Cairns International Airport (120km / 2.5 hours drive). Recommend to get a rental car in Cairns.
Please note, there is a car ferry across the Daintree River at additional cost.

Guest Reviews:

- "Four nights here were amazing and reenergising. Good driving and fantastic view!" - "Loved our stay. Really comfortable (no aircon but fans were adequate). Best thing about this place is that most accom in the Daintree is down in the rainforest which is very pretty but also hot, abit stuffy and full of mozi’s! Up here you have the breeze and the view and it’s just a great spot to come back too."

Experience the Extraordinary at Alkira Resort House and Rainforest Retreat

Alkira Resort House and Rainforest Retreat is a marvel of architectural ingenuity and natural beauty nestled in the heart of the Daintree Rainforest at Cape Tribulation in Far North Queensland. This extraordinary property, boasting two world heritage listings, is more than a place to stay; it's an immersion into nature's embrace.

Designed by the renowned architect Charles Wright and completed in 2013, Alkira is a testament to human innovation living in harmony with the environment. Every aspect of this property is not only sustainable but also awe-inspiring.

Inspired by the owner's passion for stamp collecting, Alkira features unique design elements that pay homage to this hobby. The distinctive swimming pool shape mirrors the silhouette of the One Pound Jimmy postage stamp, honoring the Aboriginal heritage of the region.

Alkira's construction from prefabricated concrete, steel, and glass ensures its resilience in the harsh, corrosive wet tropics. The property consists of six massive cantilevered wings, each offering its own panoramic view. This architectural feat is not only stunning but also Category 5 cyclone-proof, serving as a shelter when nature unleashes its fury.

The six bedrooms, or "pods," are perched at the tip of each cantilevered wing, providing unique framed views of the surrounding water, rainforest, and sky. Each pod is adorned with responsibly sourced Daintree Rainforest timber and features lavish ensuite marble bathrooms and private balconies. Modern amenities like air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, surround sound, and Wi-Fi ensure your comfort.

Alkira's open design allows for living, entertaining, and recreation in a setting that captures breathtaking views. Features include an open-air theatre, a stainless-steel Miele kitchen, a teppanyaki grill, a walk-in cool room, a wine cellar, a home office, and a helipad.

Alkira leads the way in sustainable rainforest architecture. The property is entirely off-grid and carbon-neutral, powered by solar energy. Rainwater harvesting, on-site creek water pumping, and advanced sewerage treatment are integral parts of its green design. Natural ventilation, cascading water features, and clever insulation maintain a comfortable ambient temperature year-round.

Alkira offers absolute seclusion in the heart of the Daintree and is a retreat for those seeking privacy and the desire to be close to nature. The house is set on a manmade lake and accessible by concreate walkway from the car parking area and gym. The living spaces are open to the outside for a true nature experience, with large ceiling fans, and the bedrooms are closed and private. Your visit to Far North Queensland will reach its zenith at this iconic designer retreat.

You can access Alkira by car or chartered helicopter. A scenic drive from Cairns International Airport takes approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, or 1 hour and 20 minutes from Port Douglas.
