No Pets. Visiting the Alpena and Presque Isle areas, your adventure begins at this 2-bedroom Octagon-shaped house. The site of a former bank in the 80s, this unique property sleeps 4. The ground level is bright and cheery with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom (shower only), a Master with vaulted ceiling, a California king bed, 75" smart tv, and coffee station w/beverage fridge.

The 2nd BR has a queen bed and a 50" smart tv. The staircase leads to the lower level where the fully equipped kitchen and living areas are, including a washer/dryer and the original bank safe. It has the boardroom feel and is the perfect place to hide away after an afternoon of too much sun, concentrate on some work or take in a movie.
Each floor has multiple plugs and charging ports, and a 75" smart TV ready to stream using your services. (no cable) and the TV in the basement has a sound system. There is well water, but if you talk to the locals, it's the best there is! Something about the limestone-rich area. We leave a few bottled waters and 2 gallons for your ice and coffee needs. No Ice maker, we've got some trays, but you might want to pick some up. Fire pit with wood, a park style grill, bring your own charcoal and fluid. A circular, spacious gravel parking lot allows plenty of room for your boat trailers, no need to unhitch. Sorry, no RVs are allowed.

Located on US23N, sure there is road noise and in the summer the rock haulers let you know they’re coming, but in the time where there’s no one whizzing by at 55, there is silence. There is seclusion with no neighbors nearby, except the guy diagonal across, in the summer he may be your DJ, but being in the middle of everything, there is seclusion with plenty of parking....and in the winter, well, it’s just magic!

This space caters to the smokers and smoke friendly people who are in your group. The cleaning expectations would be like a hotel would have for their smoking rooms (other states and Native American hotels still have them) and it is like a tent, so we launder things regularly and do what we can to keep it fresh. It being outside helps and it never feels too smokey. The ceiling is 14 feet and there is good airflow. It's 30 feet from the Octagon and because there are no neighbors around, you can laugh and talk all night.

Thrown together with a Boho style with color and comfort in mind. I furnished it with second hand finds and Marketplace deals. This hothouse experience is just the way I like to enjoy my stay while I'm there, so why not let others have the same fun. A great add-on to give yourself more space to enjoy yourselves and give you an option from being cooped up in the house.

This is a gorgeous lakefront vacation rental home that is right on Lake Huron in Alpena, Michigan! It has 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and sleeps 10. It has a large and gated yard for kids and dogs to play! The rental of the house also includes the use of 2 kayaks and the use of the boathouse on the property, so you can walk out the front door and immediately be in your boat and on the lake! Please note that a liability waiver must be signed before using the boathouse and/or the kayaks.

GUEST INTERACTION:

We have a wonderful local property manager that lives nearby and meets guests in person. After check-in, she is available to address any questions or issues as needed.

NEIGHBORHOOD:

Alpena is a wonderful and rather affordable getaway to nature and water in northern Michigan! Downtown Alpena is approx. a 10 to 15 minute drive from the house, depending upon where you are going. It has a nice historic downtown area with some excellent restaurants and shops. The area is renowned for beaches, swimming, fishing, kayaking, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and exploring the beauty of nature in general!

Here are some additional details regarding local activities:

* Boat Rentals: We have had several guests ask about boat rentals in the Alpena area. We would suggest contacting Dodge Marine in Alpena if you are interested in boat rentals.

* Ice Fishing: Ice fishing is a popular winter sport in the area. Please visit www . icefishingalpena . com for more information on local ice fishing.

* Snowmobiling: There is a wonderful 70-mile snowmobiling trail runs from downtown Alpena to Cheboygan, and then continues either north to Mackinac City or south to Gaylord. Maps of this trail are available online.

GUEST ACCESS:

Guests have access to the entire property, including the boathouse. The only thing that is off-limits to guests is the apartment that is attached to the boathouse.

THE SPACE:

There are a few other items that we should mention regarding this vacation rental property:

* The lake bottom in front of the house is rather mucky, so for swimming we recommend going to one of the nearby public beaches, which are less than a 10-minute drive from the house. (Right in front of the lake wall, the lake is also approx. 3 feet deep. PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH CHILDREN!)

* There is a separate small apartment on the property that is attached to the boathouse and is used by the property owner. At any time it is possible that the property owner may be staying in the boathouse apartment.

* The vacation house is pet-friendly and up to 2 dogs are permitted. Cats are not allowed. For other pets or more than 2 dogs, please discuss things with us first.

* The vacation home includes high-speed Wi-Fi. There is also a streaming television provided.

* There is a gated entrance (opened and closed by hand) that allows the large yard to be completely fenced in for kids and dogs.

* The house features a modern, large, and well-stocked kitchen with a gas range as well as a gorgeous view of of the lake while cooking.

* There are both indoor and outdoor dining tables for 6 people.

* The vacation home has a front loading washer and dryer in the downstairs bedroom. (The washer and dryer are in the bedroom closet.)

* There is a very nice fire ring with adirondack chairs for having wonderful bonfires and s'mores!

* Although not shown in the photos, there is a charcoal barbeque grill provided.

* The name of this vacation home, The Life Aquatic, derives from the property owner's passion for scuba diving as well as his love for Wes Anderson movies and is an allusion to the 2004 motion picture The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

(5) PET POLICY: Up to 2 dogs are permitted at the property. If bringing 1 or 2 dogs, please make certain that they are included on the reservation and that the pet fee is appropriately paid. More than 2 dogs is strictly prohibited and any pets other than dogs are also strictly prohibited.

(6) NUMBER OF GUESTS: Please note that our pricing is based upon the number of guests, with pricing being higher with each additional guest that is included on the reservation. Please make certain that the correct number of guests is specified on the reservation so that the pricing is correct.

(7) EARLY CHECK-IN: Our policy is to allow early check-in on the day of arrival if the property is available for check-in. We will not know until the day before arrival whether or not the property will be available for early check-in or not. The building was built in 1891, and has served as retail first floor and the top two floors as YMCA, and for many years the local Elks Club. Now it has five modern up to date apartments. All close to the downtown action of beautiful Alpena. Amazing Downtown Apartment, walking distant to everything Alpena has to offer. Within a four block circle you will be able to eat, drink and shop. All within a safe and comfortable walk. Within three miles from the hospital and schools. This is a second floor apartment, must be able to walk a flight of steps.

Beautiful house on all sports Long Lake. All the amenities are there including grill, fire wood and outdoor wood smoker for those fish you catch! Beautiful sunsets, great fishing and plenty of relaxing. Two bedrooms upstairs, one has 2 full beds and one has a queen sized bed. Two downstairs bedrooms, one with twin bunk beds and a full size bed and one with a king size bed. Set up great for two families. Large dining room and also a table on porch for dining. Large family room with fire place. Basic Cable and internet connection (you should be on the lake). Linens including towels are included. There is also a washer, dryer and dishwasher.

- "This was the second year that our family has vacationed in this cottage. It is very large, easily accommodating our family of 8. The place is very comfortable and welcoming. The beds are comfortable, as is the furniture. The owner is very responsive to questions and requests for assistance, although assistance was requested only once in our two years. The WIFI was insufficient for our adult children to be able to work effectively. The owner quickly arranged for an upgrade of equipment and the problem was solved. The yard is large and clean. We just finished a comprehensive renovation of this centrally located 2,000 sq ft 3 bedroom 2 bath 2nd floor condo with full kitchen, laundry A/C. The great room has new over-sized windows giving a beautiful view of downtown Alpena. The kitchen is fully supplied and we have a large dining room table for eight. Each bedroom has Ethan Allen furniture, Hypnos mattresses, tasteful decor and fine linens. The unit is walking distance to restaurants, shops, boat harbor and entertainment. It is located on the 2nd floor.

But don't be alarmed - the apartment (on the 2nd floor) is exactly as pictured, and maybe even nicer in real life. There is free reserved parking as well. The apartment was well equipped, and everything worked perfectly. The owner was easy to contact and very responsive. Highly recommend this as a great place to stay in this cute northern Michigan Lake Huron town."

Large mouth bass, small mouth bass, pike, perch, blue grill. Note: Major League Fishing held tournaments in 2014 and 2017 with great results and many happy fisherman. Alpena and Presque Isle offer charter boat fishing or explore Thunder Bay Shipwrecks in the Marine Sanctuary. Located 5 miles from Alpena.

- "Cozy, good location" - "We really enjoyed our stay at the Shire. Our host left us free samples of products that she carries at her store below. The home was super clean and had everything you needed to stay, including towels, extra blankets, fully equipped kitchen complete with spices. She even left mushroom latte powder by Four Sigmatic. I will absolutely stay here again in the future if I’m in need. The location is super convenient to access downtown and within walking distance to a handful of restaurants. I was very happy with my stay!"
