No Pets. Visiting the Alpena and Presque Isle areas, your adventure begins at this 2-bedroom Octagon-shaped house. The site of a former bank in the 80s, this unique property sleeps 4. The ground level is bright and cheery with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom (shower only), a Master with vaulted ceiling, a California king bed, 75" smart tv, and coffee station w/beverage fridge.

The 2nd BR has a queen bed and a 50" smart tv. The staircase leads to the lower level where the fully equipped kitchen and living areas are, including a washer/dryer and the original bank safe. It has the boardroom feel and is the perfect place to hide away after an afternoon of too much sun, concentrate on some work or take in a movie.
Each floor has multiple plugs and charging ports, and a 75" smart TV ready to stream using your services. (no cable) and the TV in the basement has a sound system. There is well water, but if you talk to the locals, it's the best there is! Something about the limestone-rich area. We leave a few bottled waters and 2 gallons for your ice and coffee needs. No Ice maker, we've got some trays, but you might want to pick some up. Fire pit with wood, a park style grill, bring your own charcoal and fluid. A circular, spacious gravel parking lot allows plenty of room for your boat trailers, no need to unhitch. Sorry, no RVs are allowed.

Located on US23N, sure there is road noise and in the summer the rock haulers let you know they’re coming, but in the time where there’s no one whizzing by at 55, there is silence. There is seclusion with no neighbors nearby, except the guy diagonal across, in the summer he may be your DJ, but being in the middle of everything, there is seclusion with plenty of parking....and in the winter, well, it’s just magic!
With amenities like 2 natural gas furnaces, 2 AC units, Awesome Fiber WiFi, a full spice rack, air fryer, 2 coffee makers, blender, crockpot, Some ramen in the cupboard, towels, linens, games, books, plenty of places to lounge, and 2 refrigerators, our place will help you feel at home while you're traveling in Alpena and surrounding areas. This space caters to the smokers and smoke friendly people who are in your group. The cleaning expectations would be like a hotel would have for their smoking rooms (other states and Native American hotels still have them) and it is like a tent, so we launder things regularly and do what we can to keep it fresh. It being outside helps and it never feels too smokey. The ceiling is 14 feet and there is good airflow. It's 30 feet from the Octagon and because there are no neighbors around, you can laugh and talk all night.

Thrown together with a Boho style with color and comfort in mind. I furnished it with second hand finds and Marketplace deals. This hothouse experience is just the way I like to enjoy my stay while I'm there, so why not let others have the same fun. A great add-on to give yourself more space to enjoy yourselves and give you an option from being cooped up in the house.

This is a gorgeous lakefront vacation rental home that is right on Lake Huron in Alpena, Michigan! It has 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and sleeps 10. It has a large and gated yard for kids and dogs to play! The rental of the house also includes the use of 2 kayaks and the use of the boathouse on the property, so you can walk out the front door and immediately be in your boat and on the lake! Please note that a liability waiver must be signed before using the boathouse and/or the kayaks.

GUEST INTERACTION:

We have a wonderful local property manager that lives nearby and meets guests in person. After check-in, she is available to address any questions or issues as needed.

NEIGHBORHOOD:

Alpena is a wonderful and rather affordable getaway to nature and water in northern Michigan! Downtown Alpena is approx. a 10 to 15 minute drive from the house, depending upon where you are going. It has a nice historic downtown area with some excellent restaurants and shops. The area is renowned for beaches, swimming, fishing, kayaking, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and exploring the beauty of nature in general!

Here are some additional details regarding local activities:

* Boat Rentals: We have had several guests ask about boat rentals in the Alpena area. We would suggest contacting Dodge Marine in Alpena if you are interested in boat rentals.

* Ice Fishing: Ice fishing is a popular winter sport in the area. Please visit www . icefishingalpena . com for more information on local ice fishing.

* Snowmobiling: There is a wonderful 70-mile snowmobiling trail runs from downtown Alpena to Cheboygan, and then continues either north to Mackinac City or south to Gaylord. Maps of this trail are available online.

GUEST ACCESS:

Guests have access to the entire property, including the boathouse. The only thing that is off-limits to guests is the apartment that is attached to the boathouse.

THE SPACE:

There are a few other items that we should mention regarding this vacation rental property:

* The lake bottom in front of the house is rather mucky, so for swimming we recommend going to one of the nearby public beaches, which are less than a 10-minute drive from the house. (Right in front of the lake wall, the lake is also approx. 3 feet deep. PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH CHILDREN!)

* There is a separate small apartment on the property that is attached to the boathouse and is used by the property owner. At any time it is possible that the property owner may be staying in the boathouse apartment.

* The vacation house is pet-friendly and up to 2 dogs are permitted. Cats are not allowed. For other pets or more than 2 dogs, please discuss things with us first.

* The vacation home includes high-speed Wi-Fi. There is also a streaming television provided.

* There is a gated entrance (opened and closed by hand) that allows the large yard to be completely fenced in for kids and dogs.

* The house features a modern, large, and well-stocked kitchen with a gas range as well as a gorgeous view of of the lake while cooking.

* There are both indoor and outdoor dining tables for 6 people.

* The vacation home has a front loading washer and dryer in the downstairs bedroom. (The washer and dryer are in the bedroom closet.)

* There is a very nice fire ring with adirondack chairs for having wonderful bonfires and s'mores!

* Although not shown in the photos, there is a charcoal barbeque grill provided.

* The name of this vacation home, The Life Aquatic, derives from the property owner's passion for scuba diving as well as his love for Wes Anderson movies and is an allusion to the 2004 motion picture The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

(1) WATER LEVEL: Please note that the level of Lake Huron varies significantly. As such, the boat house may or may not be usable by boats depending upon the lake level. (5) PET POLICY: Up to 2 dogs are permitted at the property. If bringing 1 or 2 dogs, please make certain that they are included on the reservation and that the pet fee is appropriately paid. More than 2 dogs is strictly prohibited and any pets other than dogs are also strictly prohibited.

(6) NUMBER OF GUESTS: Please note that our pricing is based upon the number of guests, with pricing being higher with each additional guest that is included on the reservation. Please make certain that the correct number of guests is specified on the reservation so that the pricing is correct.

(7) EARLY CHECK-IN: Our policy is to allow early check-in on the day of arrival if the property is available for check-in. We will not know until the day before arrival whether or not the property will be available for early check-in or not. The building was built in 1891, and has served as retail first floor and the top two floors as YMCA, and for many years the local Elks Club. Now it has five modern up to date apartments. All close to the downtown action of beautiful Alpena. Amazing Downtown Apartment, walking distant to everything Alpena has to offer. Within a four block circle you will be able to eat, drink and shop. All within a safe and comfortable walk. Within three miles from the hospital and schools. This is a second floor apartment, must be able to walk a flight of steps.

Beautiful house on all sports Long Lake. All the amenities are there including grill, fire wood and outdoor wood smoker for those fish you catch! Beautiful sunsets, great fishing and plenty of relaxing. Two bedrooms upstairs, one has 2 full beds and one has a queen sized bed. Two downstairs bedrooms, one with twin bunk beds and a full size bed and one with a king size bed. Set up great for two families. Large dining room and also a table on porch for dining. Large family room with fire place. Basic Cable and internet connection (you should be on the lake). Linens including towels are included. There is also a washer, dryer and dishwasher.

- "This was the second year that our family has vacationed in this cottage. It is very large, easily accommodating our family of 8. The place is very comfortable and welcoming. The beds are comfortable, as is the furniture. The owner is very responsive to questions and requests for assistance, although assistance was requested only once in our two years. The WIFI was insufficient for our adult children to be able to work effectively. The owner quickly arranged for an upgrade of equipment and the problem was solved. The yard is large and clean. We just finished a comprehensive renovation of this centrally located 2,000 sq ft 3 bedroom 2 bath 2nd floor condo with full kitchen, laundry A/C. The great room has new over-sized windows giving a beautiful view of downtown Alpena. The kitchen is fully supplied and we have a large dining room table for eight. Each bedroom has Ethan Allen furniture, Hypnos mattresses, tasteful decor and fine linens. The unit is walking distance to restaurants, shops, boat harbor and entertainment. It is located on the 2nd floor.

But don't be alarmed - the apartment (on the 2nd floor) is exactly as pictured, and maybe even nicer in real life. There is free reserved parking as well. You may expect to only experience an amazing sunrise, but you'll be surprised at how spectacular it is to watch the sunset from here as well. We have found this place to be wonderful for relaxing, but also great for all of your favorite watersports. There is a 40-foot dock & boat launch area, to launch your small boats, jet skis, kayaks & paddle boards. The house is large enough to accommodate the whole family, and you can even bring your fur babies!

Danielle was so helpful and responsive, giving tips on local events during our stay. Fireworks were right across the lake, and easily viewed from house, deck and yard. A premium spot in downtown Alpena. The center of downtown is two blocks down the road at 2nd Avenue and Chisholm St. We are located in a premium spot to find dinner, entertainment, shopping and most importantly nightlife. The space is located above a bar. So...it can be a little noisy for some. But if you are ok with some noise or don't normally turn in until later in the evening, we are for you. The space
Once a two bedroom apartment, the renovated space is now has one large bedroom and a large kitchen. Where the kitchen once was is now a large walk in closet. The windows in the nook adjacent to the living room and in the kitchen look out over Chisholm St running straight through downtown Alpena. This unique space was at one point a beauty salon in the early 1900s. This unique listing is above a Polish Restaurant and Bar, which is currently undergoing renovation which should be opening fall of 2022. The unit was originally a beauty salon and was turned in to residential living at some point in its 135 year history! We pulled out the dropped celing and gave the place a major face-lift. This cute cabin is located on the Long Lake "Sandies" It shares a 60' lakeshore with the Main house. This house has amazing views. A wonderful patio and fire pit to enjoy. Swim all day on the sandbar and in the evening build a fire and enjoy the beautiful sunsets over the lake. This classic lake cottage has everything you would expect from a northern Michigan cottage. With some added touches to make your stay comfortable and relaxing.

Unlike most vacation rentals in the Alpena area, our home is less than a mile from the historic downtown area. We are across the street from Thomson Beach, which has public swimming and picnic areas. A short walk or bike ride brings you to Bay View Park and the Municipal Small Boat Harbor.

There is so much to do in Alpena, from shopping and dining to off-the-beaten-path activities.

Three guest rooms sleep up to 5 people, and in the warmer months there is a pull-out couch in our upstairs den. We also have a deck and large partially fenced backyard.

Enjoy your stay in a home that showcases part of what makes Alpena so special! This home was built in 1924 out of Bes-Stone split block from Besser Manufacturing Company, produced at the world headquarters, located here in Alpena. It is just as beautiful today as it was when it was built 100 years ago. This home has surprisingly large rooms, as well as all the modern comforts, including central air! Currently in the process of having this home added to the National Register of Historic Places.

My place is less than a block from Restaurants, an outdoor Splash Park, and beaches along Lake Huron. Within walking distance is a park with basketball and tennis courts, a bandshell for outdoor concerts in summer and more beach access. If you're looking for a night in, the backyard is private with a firepit and hot tub, or enjoy the game/activity room downstairs.

No Pets. This Octagon-shaped house, a former bank in the 80s. 1st flr: 2 BRs , 1 bath (shower only), Master, vaulted ceiling, CA king, coffee sta. w/bev. fridge. 2nd BR: queen, 50" tv. Stairs lead to the lower level to a fully equipped kitchen/living area, Pacman arcade game, books, games, W/D, original bank safe. Multiple charging ports, and a 2-75" smart TVs-no cable. Well water, fire pit, spacious parking, sorry, no RVs. 2 gas furnaces, 2 AC units, WiFi, 2 fridges. Sorry no pets.

This space is designed for the smokers, or anyone smoker friendly who wants to enjoy the outdoors, in a large portion of a tall greenhouse. There is space to hangout, furniture for several lounging scenarios. Near the firepit and outdoor grill.

Keep the party going outside if it rains, the sides roll up, but the inside can reach some real heat on sunny days (noon to 6pm), 100+ degrees so we've placed thoughtful shade cloths, an exhaust fan and other portable fans that can be moved around. on the flipside, if there's cold and wind, it is an oasis. If it's sunny and 40 degrees outside, inside is 70-80 degrees. There's a heating blanket incase it gets chilly when you roll down the sides at night. Sides are screened in to deter bugs. The front is hard poly and the sides are plastic manually rolled up and down. Has a locking door.
This space is only available as an add on for each day of your stay at the Octagon, for your entire stay. $50 per day plus an additional $50.00 cleaning fee. Example, if you are staying 3 days, the extra fee would be an additional $200.
This space is "add on only" to your stay, We do not rent it separately and it will NOT be rented/occupied during your stay unless you elect to add it to your stay.
This space caters to the smokers and smoke friendly people who are in your group. The cleaning expectations would be like a hotel would have for their smoking rooms (other states and Native American hotels still have them) and it is like a tent, so we launder things regularly and do what we can to keep it fresh. It being outside helps and it never feels too smokey. The ceiling is 14 feet and there is good airflow. It's 30 feet from the Octagon and because there are no neighbors around, you can laugh and talk all night.
Thrown together with a Boho style with color and comfort in mind. I furnished it with second hand finds and Marketplace deals. This hothouse experience is just the way I like to enjoy my stay while I'm there, so why not let others have the same fun. A great add-on to give you more space to enjoy yourselves and give you an option from being cooped up in the house.

The house is all yours. Even though it's on US23 and there is road noise, but when there's not any traffic, it is so peaceful and secluded. No neighbors nearby. You can use the house and the outdoor fire pit, grill, gravel drive.
Coming 2026 will be an add-on smoking greenhouse lounge that sleeps 2 for an additional $50 per night plus an additional $25 cleaning fee

The space
Our home consists of two bedrooms and a full bathroom on the main floor, plus a sleeping loft and half bath upstairs. One main floor bedroom has a full-size bed and the other has both a full and twin bed in it; the sleeping loft boasts a queen bed. Each room has a small fan and extra linens, pillows, and blankets are stocked in the closets.

The kitchen has a refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, toaster, and a Mr. Coffee coffee maker. The house is stocked with dishes, pots, pans, plates, glassware, mugs, cutlery, and more. A gas grill is also provided.

In addition to a television on the main floor, please enjoy free 400 Mbps Wi-Fi throughout the house. We also have several books and board games in the cabinet under the TV. You are free to use anything you would like. We just ask that you leave everything in the same condition that you found it.

The campfire pit includes a mix of hardwoods, softwoods, and kindling. For additional safety, a garden hose with a spray nozzle is also provided.

Guest access
You will have full access to the main and upper floors of the house, including the porch, yard, and fire pit area. The basement is not included.

There is parking for up to two vehicles. There is enough space for parking for trailers, watercraft, or ATVs, but the driveway does not have a turnaround and can be quite tricky to navigate with a trailer due to the rolling hills and small curves. Please use extra caution if hauling a trailer and do not turn around in the front yard.

While some of the basics (e.g. ketchup, mustard, herbs and spices) may be provided, you will need to bring your own food. Drinking water is provided via the cold-water dispenser shown in the pictures.

All linens are washed and clean for you to use and enjoy. Please enjoy the free Wi-Fi.

Nearby houses are occupied by full-time residents, so parties, large gatherings, and loud music are prohibited to respect their privacy. Please observe our designated quiet time from 10:00pm until 7:00am.

There is no smoking or drugs allowed anywhere on the property or around it.

Other things to note
While you won’t exactly be “roughing it” at our home, please be aware that this home is in a remote location. Our home is located several miles down a gravel road that is maintained by the county, the water* may be harder than you’re used to, cell phone coverage may be spotty, and there may be bugs outside.

* Water for our home is supplied by a well. Northeast Michigan’s aquifers are often a mix of sand and limestone gravel that commonly result in “hard” water, and the aquifer feeding our well is no exception. While perfectly safe to drink, some people may be offput by the distinct taste of hard water. Most often, guests shower, brush teeth, etc. as normal, but choose to drink from the cold-water dispenser that has been provided.
